00:00This tiny black kitten was abandoned in the middle of a highway and getting too close to her could
00:04scare her into traffic. Local rescuer John DeBacker had to figure out how to get close to her let alone
00:10without scaring her. But honestly this is kind of what John does. Highway rescues are one of my
00:15specialties and I've done hundreds of them. We've worked with John on numerous rescue stories and if
00:21there is one thing we know for sure it's that if an animal finds himself in a tricky rescue situation
00:26where most people would be afraid to go he is usually the first one at the scene. We've watched
00:32him climb trees at one time even catching a cat with his bare hands. I got him. Hi baby. Saved
00:39animals
00:40trapped on train tracks and yes run across busy highways. He often puts himself in risky situations
00:47to help an animal in need but he never does so without thinking it through first. That's why we
00:52love celebrating John on our page. Every time an animal has nowhere left to turn he shows up. My biggest
00:58fear was her noticing me walk up to her and running into traffic so I called 911. Once officers briefly
01:04stopped traffic John slowly crossed the highway and approached the kitten from behind. Then before
01:10she could react he grabbed her. She was definitely not happy about it at first. She did not enjoy me
01:28picking
01:28her up but a few seconds of pain is always better than the alternative of her running into traffic and
01:33becoming another statistic. Just moments later she was curled up in John's lap and purring. John named
01:42her Sunrise and cared for her until she could be transferred to Last Hope Animal Rescue and she is
01:48still up for adoption.
