02:37Getting you up to speed with the latest details
02:40that are emerging in Prime Minister's security scare
02:42at the Fintech Festival, the Global Fintech Festival in Mumbai
02:46that he was going to inaugurate.
02:48According to the police documents,
02:49the incident took place at GEO World Plaza, BKC,
02:53Bangla-Kurla Complex.
02:55The accused in this question allegedly showed an identity card
02:59claiming that one of them was a government official
03:02and managed to gain entry into the office premises.
03:05Accused Rohan Parikh wanted to purchase perfume for his fiancé.
03:10Police said the accused was allegedly carrying a fake identity card
03:14perpetually linked to the government of India
03:16directly to the Prime Minister's office.
03:18Police are now probing the source of the fake identity,
03:21how the accused obtained or prepared them
03:24and whether they had any other motive
03:26behind entering the sensitive government office.
03:28Cops in search of another accused named Prathamesh Bagul.
03:42I want to cut across right now and to my colleague Divesh Singh
03:46who is joining us with more details.
03:49Divesh, can you break the entire story down?
03:53Because it's improbable that Rohan Parikh here
03:56obtained an identity card which was linked to the PMO.
04:01Was he also conned into believing this
04:04or do you think he's the one who actually faked the identity?
04:12Well, Rohan Parikh, age 24, a resident of Khar, Mumbai
04:16and he was carrying this identity card
04:20which said that he was a grade C official
04:23working for the Prime Minister's office, Government of India
04:27and this identity card was flashed by him
04:31when his bodyguard, remember his bodyguard Dilip Kunde
04:33was stopped by security at the Jio World Plaza
04:37because he was carrying a firearm
04:40and Jio World Plaza is the same building.
04:43It's the building which is adjacent to NMACC
04:46where the Global FinTech Fest is happening today
04:51and it was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
04:54This incident, remember, happened last evening
04:57where this Rohan Parikh along with his bodyguard
05:00was trying to enter.
05:01Rohan Parikh did manage to enter Jio World Plaza
05:03but his bodyguard was stopped.
05:05When Rohan Parikh returned back,
05:07he flashed his identity card
05:09though the identity card had a date of issue.
05:12It did not have a period of validity
05:14which is usually there in a Government Issue Identity card.
05:18Also, the issuer's designation was not mentioned
05:21which flagged, which raised questions
05:24and that is why the BKC police was informed.
05:27He was questioned on how he obtained this card.
05:29Because it's...
05:31What did he say?
05:32How did he obtain?
05:33Did he fake the identity on his own?
05:40Well, Rohan Parikh's lawyer informed the court this afternoon
05:43that this card was allegedly issued by a person
05:47or sent to him by one person named Tarun Kapoor or Tarun Gupta
05:52whom he had been in contact with
05:55and he posed as additional secretary working for the PMO.
05:59Also, he was constantly in touch with a person named Mehak Gupta
06:03and was appointed on an advisory role
06:06by these two persons whom he had contacted through email
06:10whom he had been in touch through email
06:12and they had sent this identity card.
06:15They had appointed Rohan Parikh on advisory role
06:19for advising on geopolitics,
06:22advising on defense acquisition and other roles.
06:24So, Diresh, Rohan Parikh actually believed
06:26he was working for the PMO.
06:28Rohan Parikh is a master's.
06:33Well, that is what Rohan Parikh claims
06:35in front of the court
06:36that he believed that he was working for the PMO.
06:39He doesn't know whether the identity card issued to him
06:43whether the persons who were in contact with him,
06:47who were in conversation with him,
06:48who were in communication with him,
06:49they actually worked for PMO or not
06:51because now he has been arrested.
06:54But since December 2024,
06:56he believed that he was working for the PMO.
06:59It's a curious case
07:01of a fake identity, Divesh.
07:05Like I said, it's a curious case of a fake identity.
07:07The man who clearly has an identity card
07:10which says that he works for the Prime Minister's office,
07:13believes that he works for the Prime Minister's office.
07:16The PMO says this card is fake.
07:17It was issued by two people.
07:20Who are these two people?
07:21Do they actually work with the Prime Minister's office?
07:24Because Divesh's lawyer says
07:26that these two people who work for the PMO
07:28issued the card to Rohan
07:31in an advisory role where the PMO is concerned.
07:34So the spotlight now on these two people.
07:36Who are these two people?
07:43Well, the police are investigating
07:46who are these people,
07:48whether he was actually in communication
07:50with these people or not,
07:51whether he's just informing the court
07:54to save himself,
07:55to recuse himself of the charges
07:57that he has been accused of,
07:59of forging a PMO identity card
08:01just a day prior to Prime Minister's event
08:04happening in the same premises,
08:05in the adjacent premises at BKC.
08:08He has been arrested.
08:09He has been detained.
08:10So it raises a security scare also.
08:14It raises security issues also.
08:16And it raises questions
08:18on how a person,
08:19a 24-year-old who claims
08:21to be a master's
08:22or a graduate from a London university
08:25came in contact with these two people
08:27who posed as PMO officials
08:29and also issued him screenshots
08:32of identity card,
08:34also asked him to send details
08:36or send work on advisory role
08:39on defence acquisition
08:41and such major issues.
08:43And he has been working.
08:44What does Rohan Parikh do?
08:46Also, the court was informed.
08:48What does he do?
08:48What's his profession?
08:49What's he consulting as
08:51in his head with the PMO?
08:53Well, during,
08:56during, during primary interrogation,
08:59Rohan Parikh has revealed
09:00that he works in the drone tech space,
09:03drone technology space
09:04and also he'd be working
09:07on advisory role with the PMO.
09:10That is what, again,
09:11he claims in front of the police
09:13during interrogation.
09:15But primarily,
09:16he works on,
09:17in the drone tech space
09:19and he's a graduate
09:21from a London university,
09:23stays in Khar, Mumbai.
09:25Further, needs to be investigated.
09:27His credentials are being checked
09:28by the police,
09:29by the crime intelligence unit
09:31of the Mumbai Crime Branch.
09:33All right, Dharish,
09:33thank you for all the details.
09:35Like we said,
09:35curious case of a fake identity
09:38where the impersonator in question
09:40believes that he actually
09:42works for the PMO.
09:43So what is the real story?
09:44We are tracking it.
09:45All right, Dharish,
09:46I want to quickly move on
09:47to our debate this evening.
09:49Something that we've been tracking
09:50over the course
09:51of the last 48 hours.
09:54The DU dream is over.
09:56It died along seven
09:58who were buried
09:59in the collapse of the building
10:02at Satya Niketan.
10:03And with it perished
10:05possibly the dreams
10:07of thousands
10:07who look at Delhi
10:09as hope,
10:10as future,
10:12as something
10:12that will give them
10:13longevity in their career,
10:15as the hub of education
10:17where India is concerned.
10:18I want to give you a figure
10:19which since yesterday
10:21we've looked at very closely.
10:23Seven lakh students
10:24from across India
10:25come to Delhi
10:26to study
10:27in Delhi University
10:28from outside.
10:29How many seats are there
10:30where hostels are concerned?
10:32Seven thousand.
10:33That is every hundred student
10:35that comes in
10:36from a state
10:37outside Delhi
10:38wise for one hostel seat.
10:41Crumbling infrastructure
10:42is what they turn to
10:44as PGs,
10:46paying guest accommodation
10:47because that's
10:48their only option.
10:49And they pay
10:50nothing short
10:51of thirty thousand
10:53for two people
10:54in a ten by ten foot
10:56room.
10:57These are the details.
11:10The Satya Niketan
11:12building collapse
11:12has exposed
11:13a grim reality
11:14for Delhi University's
11:16students.
11:19For many,
11:21getting into DU
11:22is only the beginning
11:23of the struggle
11:24because once
11:25they make it here,
11:27finding a safe place
11:28to live
11:28becomes the real challenge.
11:30And the reason
11:32is a massive
11:33hostel crisis.
11:38As per reports,
11:40seven lakh students
11:40were enrolled
11:41in Delhi University
11:42in 2025.
11:44But with just
11:46seven thousand
11:46to nine thousand
11:47hostel seats,
11:48as many as
11:49hundred students
11:50are competing
11:51for every single seat.
11:54A staggering mismatch.
11:57And the result,
11:58thousands of students
11:59are pushed
12:00into private PGs
12:01and rented rooms
12:02around the university.
12:08Cramped spaces,
12:12unsafe buildings,
12:15and rents
12:17that keep rising.
12:19There are so many
12:20cramped buildings,
12:21there are so many
12:22water logging,
12:23there are so many
12:24fire breaks
12:25and a short circuit
12:26in the past.
12:27But there are no
12:28reaction to us
12:30or resolution.
12:53People all over the country come here to study in Delhi University, that is one thing.
12:58So it's just the responsibility of the administration to construct a hostel.
13:05At Satya Niketan, students living next to the collapsed building are now packing their bags,
13:10not because their course is over, but because they fear for their lives.
13:29Now cracks have appeared in adjoining buildings.
13:34Students are leaving, while some allege landlords are refusing to return their security deposits.
13:43Now we want our security back.
13:45These people are making security.
13:4716,000 rents, my 16,000 security.
13:503,000 to 4,000 maintenance.
13:52Light bill is different.
13:53Light bill is different from 14 rupees units.
13:56Delhi's common area is different from 5 rupees charges.
13:59If a child comes in one time, it's 40,000 to 45,000 rupees.
14:02For one time, it's 50,000, 60,000.
14:08And this isn't just Satya Niketan.
14:11Our reality check in Nehru Vihar and Mukherjee Nagar near Delhi's North Campus found students living in cramped PGs,
14:20some with damaged ceilings, and serious safety concerns.
14:28The city of Mugherjee Nagar near Delhi's North Campus has been the most important place to be in the city
14:31of Mugherjee Nagar.
14:31The city of Mugherjee Nagar has been the most important place to be in the city of Mugherjee Nagar.
14:54The city of Mugherjee Nagar has been the most important place to be in the city of Mugherjee Nagar.
14:59The city of Mugherjee Nagar has been the most important place to be in the city of Mugherjee Nagar.
15:31The city of Mugherjee Nagar has been the most important place to be in the city of Mugherjee Nagar.
15:54Euroreport, India Today.
16:00Well, the DU dream is definitely in ICU for all the parents out there who look at their young child
16:06who's cracked a university in the national capital as a badge of honor, which it is a badge of honor,
16:13always been considered a prestigious shoe, want to send their children only to a paying guest accommodation.
16:19Even though flats, shared flats in Delhi are cheaper, but parents who are sending kids as young as 17, 18,
16:2519, 20
16:25want a paying guest accommodation so they feel that their child is safe.
16:31And that is what is exploited in the national capital.
16:34We just gave you a very short glimpse of that.
16:37I want to cut across right now to our panelists this evening.
16:40Joining me, Khiti Shwarma, first year, Atma Ram Sanatandharam College student.
16:44He's a PhD, PG resident in Satya Niketan.
16:48His classmate got hurt and is currently in the hospital.
16:51Rishit Ratadia, again from Atma Ram Sanatandharam College, which is walking distance from Satya Niketan,
16:58is a PG resident in Satya Niketan.
17:02Rahul Singh Kajla, spokesperson NSUI, Akshay Pratap Singh, secretary, ABVP DU.
17:07Rasika, DU student.
17:09She's also a member of the Kokro Janata Party.
17:12Before I come across to the political pressure groups and the political affiliate student organizations,
17:19I'd like to go to the two young students who are with me.
17:23Shiti, your friend is right now injured, recuperating in hospital,
17:28who was in that Satya Niketan building crash.
17:32But if there is a very big silver lining for him, he's gotten out of that crash alive.
17:38But I just want you to give us a glimpse of what is it living in Satya Niketan in a
17:45PG accommodation.
17:47How much do you pay?
17:48What is your living condition like?
17:51Good evening, ma'am.
17:53I'm currently living in my PG at Satya Niketan.
17:57And the PG is very crowded.
17:59Like, it's a 10 by 10 room.
18:01And I have a roommate with whom I'm paying this PG.
18:05And I'm paying 9,000 rent per head.
18:08There are other charges in maintenance, electricity excluded.
18:11And there is no food security.
18:13I have to get food from outside.
18:15So, I would say it's below average living in Satya Niketan.
18:19Shiti, are you inside your room right now?
18:21Yes, ma'am.
18:23Can you, you know, we are going to go full screen.
18:25Can you show us where you live, how much you pay?
18:28Give us a glimpse.
18:29Let's go full screen on this.
18:32And just tell us, Shiti, on how much you're paying for this.
18:37This is your room.
18:38This is my room.
18:38This is just the room.
18:40Only this.
18:41And there is the bathroom.
18:43Yeah, and your roommate is paying 9,000.
18:47So, 18,000 is the money that this room gets the person who's running your PG, correct?
18:54Yes, ma'am.
18:56And what do you get out of it?
18:57Nothing.
18:58It's just the room rent.
18:59Yes, just the room rent.
19:02And this is something that you have no option to, Shiti, because there are no hostels around.
19:07There's no hostel facility.
19:08Yes, ma'am.
19:09If you need to be walking distance from your college, you are in Atmaram Sanatandhar.
19:14This is the last option.
19:18And you're paying 9,000 every month plus, you know, food is not cheap for a young student like you?
19:25No, food is not cheap.
19:27Minimum 5,000 is necessary for food.
19:31I want, Shiti, your classmate was in that building collapse?
19:37Yes, ma'am, but I'm not comfortable with sharing the information.
19:40You don't have to share it.
19:41That's fine.
19:42You don't need to talk about it.
19:44I want you to tell me, Shiti, what is it that you think you feel that a student like you,
19:51where lives will be made easier?
19:52Do you think reasonable hostel accommodation needs to be given?
19:57What is it that you think will make life easier for students like you, that you don't have to resort
20:02in staying in pigeonhole cubicles like this?
20:06I would say hostels are necessary for students.
20:10Like, as you've said, there are a lot, there are students in LACS studying in Delhi University.
20:15And hostels are provided for only like 7,000 to 8,000 people.
20:19So, I would say hostel would be a big step in providing a good life for the students in the
20:25pursuing of their degree.
20:29Shiti, where do you come from?
20:31I come from Jammu and Kashmir.
20:33You're from Jammu and Kashmir?
20:36Your parents must have had, must be very happy when they sent you here.
20:39But I'm sure even the expense is not small for them.
20:45Because even at this stage of your life, the amount that you are paying monthly basis is not small.
20:52Yes, ma'am. It's not small.
20:55Are your parents worried for you?
20:57They are a lot worried.
20:59They have called me like 100 times in these last few days.
21:03What do they say, Shiti?
21:05They just say stay away from that area.
21:08Don't panic.
21:10If you want, you can come back home.
21:12There is no problem.
21:13Just stay safe.
21:15Are you looking to move out of Satya Niketan or you think you have no choice?
21:20I think I'll be moving out in a few days.
21:23I'll be discussing with them about it and I'm going home in a few days.
21:29You're leaving college?
21:30No, no, I'm going for the like, to refresh my mind.
21:35The situation here is too negative for me.
21:37They're surrounding all the police, ambulances, fire arms.
21:43So you just want to go home for a brief while?
21:45Yes.
21:46But Shiti, I hope you come back and I hope you come back to a safer Delhi.
21:51And, you know, that's all I can say.
21:52And I'm really sorry.
21:53I know you don't want to talk about your friend who was in and you're entitled.
21:57You don't need to talk about your friend.
21:58But I am really sorry for what happened to him and what you're going through right now.
22:03Thank you, Shiti, for joining us.
22:04I want to cut across from Shiti, who gave out what his ordeal is, what he feels right now.
22:11He had a friend who was trapped but was taken out alive from that building crash.
22:16The money he pays.
22:17I want to cut across to Rishit Rathadia right now, again from ARSD, Atmaram Sanatandharm College.
22:23He's a PG resident in Satya Niketan.
22:27Rishit, I want you to tell me where you live, what your living conditions are, how much you pay.
22:34And, you know, I'm sure your parents are very worried for you.
22:40Good evening, ma'am.
22:41I hope I'm audible.
22:42Yes, you are.
22:46So, the current living condition is such that the average rent we have to pay is around 13,000 to
22:5314,000.
22:54We don't get any food in that.
22:57We don't get any, you know, just drop and pick up service from the college that North Campus students officially
23:03do.
23:04Further on, the living condition is such that PG owners mainly focus on, they do focus on security.
23:11I will not say that they don't.
23:13I will not say any official status because not all buildings are constructed in this way.
23:16But the thing is that electricity might be cut down.
23:19The water is not clear according to a lot of my friends that have been, you know, just living down
23:25here.
23:25And the mess food, we all know how tasty or how much the mess food really is.
23:33The condition is such that we are headed to be...
23:42Rishit, we are having some problem with connectivity.
23:44Let's try and connect back with Rishit and then, you know, get back to Rishit.
23:50I think we are having some network issues there.
23:52I want to cut across now to our three panelists who represent in somewhat way connected two political parties.
23:59I have with me Rahul Singh Kajla from the NSUI, Akshay Prathap Singh, Secretary, ABVPDU.
24:05Rasika, who is a CJP member and also is with the Delhi University.
24:10Rahul, the NSUI has been vociferously going on and taking on the Bharatiya Janata Party,
24:17where you say that now finally there's a triple engine in place starting from the MCD, the Delhi government and
24:22the central government.
24:23Yet you feel that they haven't been able to deliver.
24:26But the larger question, Rahul, is that it's not a problem that has been created just by the BJP in
24:33Delhi.
24:33It's been a problem that has only festered over decades when your own party's government that you're connected and affiliated
24:43to,
24:43Congress was in power, then came the Ahmad Mipati, nothing quite changes on ground.
24:48Just the leadership at the state and the MCD level changes.
24:52So why politicize it?
24:55Pretty 100 percent.
24:56This is a problem which is there since a very long time.
25:00But I'll tell you what has changed in the recent past.
25:03In 2016, BJP changed a legal provision which had criminalized illegal construction in Delhi and made it a civil wrong
25:13instead of a criminal wrong.
25:15So that was one major change.
25:16Second, you know, all of these buildings, especially in Satya Nikitin area, Satya Nikitin was raised in 1962 as JJ
25:25colony.
25:25And then most of the construction happened around 1980s and 1990s.
25:30Earlier, there was a provision that any building which is older than 30 years should be and will be audited.
25:37But those audits never happened.
25:42Also, you see, there was criminal incident.
25:45The very particular building that collapsed was seized by the MCD and it was closed.
25:51It was shut for one and a half year.
25:53It was only reopened a couple of months back, just before the students came back to Delhi for their new
26:00academic session.
26:01I mean, who allowed reopening of this building?
26:03What structurally changed which allowed reopening of this building?
26:07These are the questions that we are asking to the Bharti Janata Party.
26:10These are the questions that we are asking to the administration as well.
26:13I mean, it's only fair to ask why a blanket ambulance could arrive in 15 minutes and the regular services
26:20which we expect from the government to provide were not here.
26:24Why did the NDRF team reach only in two hours?
26:27Why did the Delhi police only reach in two hours?
26:30And please, they did not have basic advertisements like JAX to remove the debris.
26:35Why did the entire evacuation process, entire rescue process took 27 hours?
26:41We still do not have adequate data, clear data as per like how many people were evacuated.
26:46Only AIMS is releasing that data.
26:48Whereas when I spoke with people from Blinket who are rescuing students, they were taking these students also to other
26:55hospitals.
26:55We don't have data on those students.
26:57This was a PG which had 70 students staying there, which had labor working in the basement.
27:05And they have only issued data of 12 people.
27:07It was Sunday.
27:08Students remain in PG on Sunday.
27:10Rahul, you know, I understand, I understand your, you know, your questions.
27:13But Rahul, we are on Tuesday right now.
27:15And this was a valid point to be asked on Sunday.
27:18But would you not think that if there were missing students, by now we would have had an understanding by
27:26the virtue of their families raising a hue and cry,
27:29their loved ones raising a hue and cry, that there were people missing.
27:33But right now it doesn't seem that there is anybody missing.
27:36So, you know, yeah, make your point.
27:41Yeah, even if you see the data which is issued by AIMS, I think four odd people, one of them
27:48is 19 years old.
27:49I'm assuming that person is a student.
27:51I hope not.
27:52But their names are not clear.
27:54Nobody could claim those bodies.
27:58Hence, I think the government is doing a very lousy job at identifying people, at rescuing people and people who
28:03are living in this vicinity.
28:04So, I'm connected with you from one of the PGs, which is very close to the collapse site, which is
28:10only, I believe, 40 meters from the collapse site.
28:14And I could speak with people who were around this area.
28:17There was a full-fledged basement in that building.
28:20And now if you see visuals of the rescue work, which is supposedly completed now, it's a flat ground.
28:26What happened to the basement?
28:28Was there nobody in the basement?
28:30Was there no basement at all?
28:31Well, if you see comments on social media, people are…
28:35Okay.
28:36But, you know, I understand.
28:37Okay, these are…
28:38Okay, this is…
28:39Rahul, I get your point.
28:41I get your apprehensions.
28:42But till the time we have bona fide data to assist these apprehensions, then it's nothing more than fear-mongering.
28:49And you must understand.
28:50You know, it's very sensitive right now.
28:52So, until and unless we have a definitive answer on how many people are really missing and are there people
28:57missing, we can raise these questions.
28:59But right now we don't…
29:00We can't corroborate that with family or missing people's report other than the seven of the dead that have been
29:08released and the five that are injured.
29:10But stay with me.
29:11I want to bring in Akshay Pratap Singh, Secretary, ABVP.
29:14Akshay, you know, one quick question.
29:16On day one of the building collapse, we saw the ABVP very active, sitting outside, demanding for the sacking of
29:22the commissioner of MCD.
29:23What happened?
29:24You know, that protest petered out very quickly.
29:32You are on mute.
29:33Akshay, you are on mute.
29:34Unmute yourself.
29:41I was saying that I am just coming from a protest march from the North Campus area where we demanded
29:46a quick action on the MCD commissioner.
29:49We are demanding his resignation.
29:52We are demanding accountability of everyone who is involved in these illegal constructions or involved in this havoc which has
30:02been created by this incident.
30:32We are demanding it.
30:34because of the MCD Commissioner's status, we have also made this demand for a big production in North Campus.
30:39We are fighting this demand. We are fighting this demand.
30:43MCD office is not sitting on the floor, Akshay.
30:47MCD office is also sitting on the floor.
30:50This is a big fight for campus and this is a big fight.
30:53In this fight, we are asking that we will need to be able to get a lot of Prashasana.
30:58The demand for hostels is very long.
31:00It's a big demand, Akshay. It's a good demand.
31:03Even though the NSUI will say that you are practically part of the BJP and an offshoot of the BJP,
31:12but it's a good demand.
31:13But the question is, then be consistent.
31:15If you are asking for the resignation of the MCD Commissioner, then take it where you take the fight to
31:22him.
31:22Sit outside the MCD Commissioner's office.
31:25We are consistent and very sensitive on this issue.
31:27Today, we are asking that the MCD Commissioner is not going to go back to the MCD Commissioner.
31:34We are demanding this demand.
31:36Also, we are demanding this demand.
31:39Because this is not the only thing.
31:40In Vijayanagar, Ramjas, KMC and Hindu, the prestigious institutes, Hansrash institutes, there are no proper hostel facilities.
31:51Akshay, it's the story of all of the campuses.
31:54It's the story of Amar Colony in South Campus, where a lot of young girls stay.
31:58It's the story of Mukherjee Nagar, where a lot of kids from North Campus stay.
32:02It's the story of all the other small colonies in North Campus and in South Campus.
32:07But action needs to be taken, which really, that's not happening.
32:11I want to cut across right now very quickly and get in a word from Rasika, who is a DU
32:16student herself and also is a CJP member.
32:18Rasika, how are you looking at the developments that have taken place with your political pressure group?
32:25What is the demand and how are you working towards it?
32:30I mean, there have been demands, seven demands that have been put forward by our spokesperson, Saurav Das.
32:39And I think those have to be acted on very urgently, because this is not something, the kind of mistakes
32:45that are happening at these people, they're completely avoidable.
32:48And they've been overlooked for years, on and on.
32:51But I think it's really high time that these, these are very basic demands that need to be fulfilled, you
32:57know, like the compensation, the investigation, the audits that need to take place.
33:00I think it's very urgent.
33:02I think that's supposed to, that should happen very, very soon.
33:09Okay.
33:09All right.
33:10I just want to get in a quick word.
33:12I believe we have that young student who we had lost earlier due to a connection problem, Rishit.
33:18Rishit Ratadia is back with us.
33:20Rishit, you wanted to make your point.
33:22I'm going to give you the last word.
33:23Go ahead.
33:25For sure.
33:26I think I am audible right now, correctly.
33:28Yes, you're audible.
33:29Go ahead.
33:31Because it is a currently, like its main problem that, in the past, we're not getting the right network.
33:39When the incident happened, what I've heard from my friends is that there were network jammers.
33:45It's not a confirmed fact, but the network was cut down for a long time.
33:50Second thing is that, when this building broke, and Jay Saab told us what were the living conditions here.
33:56So, the main thing in Satya Nikitan is that it has become such a commercial hub that the students that
34:03live in it, they cannot get out once they get inside.
34:07There is every facility here.
34:09You just see the name and the facility will be here.
34:11The thing is that, all the South Campus Colleges, whether it be Venkateswar, whether it be Atmaram Sanatandharam, whether it
34:19be Maitreyi or Motilal Nehru, all of the colleges are in one lane nearest to Satya Nikitan.
34:24Fair point.
34:26So, our only option.
34:27Our only option is Satya Nikitan, to be walking distance away from college.
34:32Yes, it is walking distance.
34:33It has everything that we need.
34:35The last point I'd like to make is that all of my friends and all of the people that live
34:42here, they are just complaining about one thing.
34:45That while the rest of Delhi is paying 8 to 9 rupees per unit of electricity, we have to pay
34:5114, 15, somewhere 20 rupees each.
34:55It might seem a little problem.
34:56Every rupee is being fleeced out of you, that's what you're saying.
34:59Yes, it is.
34:59All right.
35:00You know, this is something we're going to carry on.
35:01I'm completely at a loss of time.
35:03But I thank all our panelists for taking the time out and joining us this evening.
35:07We are going to continue reporting on this story.
35:10Controversy over remarks on Muslim women has now turned into a legal and a political battle in Kerala.
35:16Journalist Aparna Karoop has been booked over comments made while questioning those remarks.
35:21Even, she was made to apologize.
35:23But the case against the Muslim leader who publicly target her has been stopped.
35:28So, is this a question of religious sentiment or a larger question of how dissenting voices are being treated or
35:35journalists who has decided to call out misogyny on the television?
35:41Here's more.
36:05It all started with these remarks.
36:08Sunny scholar Kanthapuram AP Abubakar Musliar said that Islam prescribes women to remain confined to their homes.
36:19The remarks triggered a debate on big TV where journalist Aparna Karoop hit back.
36:52I'm going to dance.
36:54The
36:56But her remarks sparked a backlash
36:59and now NFIR based on a complaint by her Castleboard resident.
37:05Aparna Karoop has been booked for provocation with intent to cause riot,
37:09outraging religious feelings, words intended to hurt religious feelings,
37:14promoting enmity between groups.
37:18Karoop has already apologised, saying the debate was aimed
37:22at upholding equality and social justice for women.
37:26Big TV also removed the controversial videos.
37:29But then came another twist.
37:34Karoop approached the police after facing online attacks and alleged threats
37:38following a post by Abdul Basile, a Muslim leader,
37:42who was part of the debate accusing her channel of spreading Islamophobia.
38:02The police registered a case over the alleged threats.
38:05But that case has now hit a roadblock.
38:09The IUML stepped in to backbust it.
38:27The home minister then directed police to take no further action against Basile.
38:32So, while the journalist who questioned misogyny faces NFIR,
38:37the man who allegedly targeted her gets protection,
38:41with the home minister reportedly telling the police not to initiate further action
38:45despite a case being registered against him.
38:47So, the question is why she has to face the law
38:50when the other person gets a free hand.
38:59And what is she facing the law for?
39:03For calling out misogyny on national television?
39:07Is that the reason why there is an FIR against her
39:09where she was practically coerced into apologising?
39:11Because seemingly she didn't really target any religion.
39:15She was calling out misogyny of a certain individual.
39:19Since when has that become a crime?
39:21And this is a test case now, viewers, for the Congress
39:25if it wants to actually walk the talk
39:27when it says it wants to smash patriarchy.
39:30I want to cut across to my colleague, Shibi Mould,
39:33who is joining me for more.
39:34Shibi, what's the latest?
39:36Because what is the Congress's stand in all of this?
39:39This is a test case, Shibi,
39:42and an opportune time for the Congress to actually walk the talk
39:46on what Rahul Gandhi said on that dais in Pune.
39:54Well, you know, when you talk about this whole incident,
39:57the Congress says that it has already made it stand clear.
40:00It went against a very famous religious,
40:02a very influential figure like Kanthapuram
40:04in Kerala's Muslim community,
40:05hitting out against him.
40:07The chief minister already going ahead
40:09and teaching him Islamic history.
40:10So the Congress says it has done its part.
40:13Of course, there is difference within the front
40:14with the Muslim League backing Kanthapuram
40:17or trying to protect him
40:18and also anybody coming out in favour of Kanthapuram.
40:21That's the Muslim League's stand.
40:22So there is difference within the front,
40:24within the government.
40:25But the Congress says its stand has always been clear.
40:28Regarding this case,
40:29now the Home Minister has directed the DGP
40:32not to initiate any further action in the case.
40:35The case will stand as there is no,
40:37there's no, you know, legal formality
40:38to end the case after the FAR being registered.
40:41But no action will be initiated.
40:42But that's not the case with hers.
40:44With Aparna Kuruv's case,
40:45this case will go on
40:46is what we are learning at this point
40:48as no direction like that
40:50has come from the Home Department.
40:51The complainant here alleges
40:53that it was not just calling out the misogyny,
40:56but she also went on to, you know,
40:58portray Islam in wrong life.
41:00The complainant, the FAR,
41:02when you read the FAR copy,
41:04the main, the one line that they're talking about
41:06is that she goes on to say
41:09that the Prophet's teachings say
41:11that, you know, men can go use drugs,
41:13assault women, you know,
41:15have, you know,
41:16keep an eye on other man's wife also.
41:19These are the teachings of Prophet
41:20and that's how the Muslim scholars are okay with it.
41:22That is the line that they have,
41:24you know, that they have filed a complaint against
41:26saying that this line is problematic
41:28because in Islam,
41:29all these are treated as cardinal sins.
41:31So she's trying to portray a different picture,
41:33trying to cause divisive agenda,
41:34trying to cause communal division in the society.
41:36So that's why we filed a complaint
41:38is what the other faction says.
41:39But the problem here is
41:41why one case gets,
41:44one person gets protection
41:45while the other has to go through it,
41:47especially when she has already
41:48tendered an apology,
41:49an unconditional apology
41:50in the whole case
41:51and in the whole controversy
41:52that broke out
41:53after that debate
41:54that took place on that news channel.
41:56All right, Shibi,
41:57thank you for joining us
41:57for the latest update there.
41:59Meanwhile, let's move on
42:00because misogyny is something
42:03which really has no boundaries
42:05when it comes to religion.
42:07Religion might divide,
42:08but misogyny, patriarchy unites.
42:10Let's cut across to Paris.
42:12A controversy in Paris has erupted
42:14after a large delegation
42:15linked to Hindu organization
42:17BAPS visited the Eiffel Tower.
42:20Employee unions allege
42:21female staff were asked to step aside
42:24during the visit
42:25to accommodate the delegation
42:27because the head of that delegation
42:29had a vow of celibacy
42:32where, leave alone touch,
42:33he couldn't even look at women.
42:34Triggering protests
42:35and a one-day strike and closure
42:38of the iconic monument.
42:40The allegations have sparked
42:41a wider debate
42:42over misogyny, sexism,
42:45gender discrimination,
42:46drawing criticism
42:47from leaders across the world.
42:54The Eiffel Tower,
42:56one of the world's
42:57most iconic tourist places
42:59was shot on Monday
43:00after a visit
43:01by spiritual leaders
43:02of a Hindu sect
43:03sparked a controversy.
43:07It all started
43:08when a delegation
43:09of around 100 people
43:11linked to the Bocasana Vasi,
43:13Akshar Purshottam,
43:14Swami Narayan Sanstha
43:16visited the monument
43:17on Saturday.
43:20Employees union claimed
43:21the delegation
43:22had asked for the trip
43:23to be organized
43:24in such a way
43:25that limited
43:26their interaction
43:27with women.
43:29According to union
43:30representatives,
43:32female employees
43:33were told to leave
43:34the areas
43:34where they were working
43:35as members
43:36of the delegation
43:37passed through,
43:38allowing male employees
43:39to take their places.
43:42The move
43:43angered women workers,
43:45unions,
43:46and French politicians,
43:48sparking a full-blown face-off.
43:54What caused an enormous amount
43:57of emotion
43:57was that
43:58during the visit
43:59of this delegation,
44:00women were asked
44:01to leave their places
44:02of work
44:03in order to place
44:04men there.
44:05So that absolutely
44:06does not go down well
44:07with the employees,
44:08with women obviously
44:09who are all humiliated
44:11by what happened,
44:12by the way
44:13some were treated.
44:14The emotion grew
44:15over the course
44:16of the weekend
44:17and this morning
44:18the employees
44:19decided to gather
44:19first of all
44:20to open a discussion
44:22with the management
44:23so that women
44:24are never treated
44:25like that again
44:25in the company
44:26because at the present time
44:28it is totally unacceptable
44:29and there is unanimity
44:31on that.
44:43The incident led
44:44to the closure
44:45of the tower
44:45for a day
44:46with its employees
44:47staging a protest.
44:50Paris' mayor
44:51Emmanuel Gregoire
44:52assured an investigation
44:53would be launched
44:54as soon as possible
44:56adding that he is aware
44:58of the employees' anger
44:59and agreed
45:00that dissatisfaction
45:01was legitimate.
45:03Yale Brown-Pivet,
45:05the president
45:06of the French National Assembly
45:07slammed the incident
45:08and said she refuses
45:10to allow women
45:11to be compelled
45:12to step aside
45:13in order to meet
45:14the demands
45:14of foreign visitors.
45:16French hard-right leader
45:18Marine Le Pais said
45:19in France
45:20we will never accept
45:21that the presence
45:22of women be limited.
45:23As the controversy
45:25snowballed
45:25the Hindu religious group
45:27said it understood
45:28the concerns
45:29raised over
45:29the Eiffel Tower visit
45:31and was taking them
45:32very seriously.
45:33The group further said
45:35that the visit
45:35by its large delegation
45:37was organized
45:38in coordination
45:39with Eiffel Tower authorities.
45:41BAPS said
45:42the visit was scheduled
45:43at the start
45:44of normal opening hours
45:45to minimize inconvenience
45:47to other visitors
45:48and added
45:49that to its knowledge
45:50no one was denied
45:51access to the Eiffel Tower
45:53during the visit.
45:54The group apologized
45:55to anyone
45:56who may have felt hurt
45:57or inconvenienced
45:59by the situation.
46:02Meanwhile
46:02MEA has distanced itself
46:04from the controversy.
46:07We are aware
46:08of the opening
46:09of a temple
46:09of the BAPS
46:10BAPS
46:11Sanstha
46:12in the Paris area.
46:14As to the particular issue
46:15pertaining to
46:16the tower
46:17this is a matter
46:18purely between
46:19the entities concerned.
46:20The BAPS delegation
46:22was in Paris
46:23for the inauguration
46:24of a temple
46:24on the suburbs.
46:26The newly opened temple
46:27is being described
46:29as the largest
46:29Hindu shrine
46:30in mainland Europe.
46:31The ceremony
46:33however
46:33has been overshadowed
46:34by controversy
46:35surrounding
46:36the Eiffel Tower.
46:38Bureau Report
46:39India Today
46:40is a matter of
