00:00Thank you for joining us. We will take the usual format today and start with James Vundra and Sky Sports
00:06News. Off you go, James.
00:07Chaby, good to see you. You've had some time to reflect on the Arsenal match. How do you feel about
00:12the performance two days on?
00:15Yeah, for sure. With time, you have a deeper analysis. You are able to settle down a little bit with
00:23the emotions after the game.
00:26And till now, all the games, they have told us things. We have learned from them and from this game,
00:33a high-level game, that it was intense.
00:35There were different moments. But we have talked. We have shared our feelings, our sensations in the game.
00:41And we have wrapped it for the future. And the future is tomorrow. It's Leeds. And that's the main focus
00:47at the moment.
00:47And internal tomorrow, are Marco, Palestra or Moises, Kaysera likely to be involved?
00:53No, not yet. Still not ready to go. Not the moment to take too early risk. So we go game
01:05by game with them and it's too early.
01:08How frustrating has it been not to be able to use Marco so far? Because it feels like he's going
01:13to be a big part of your plan.
01:14Especially for him. You know, he came with huge energy, huge desire to enjoy his game in the Premier League.
01:26He had a very good pre-season. And right a few days before the first game against Fulham, he picked
01:34up an injury.
01:35But it's part of the life of a football player to come back from injury. But we will need him
01:40for sure.
01:40Because he has great potential and he will add a lot of good qualities that we need for the team.
01:49You suggested on Sunday that Levi Cole has a fitness issue. How's he doing?
01:54He's OK. He's OK for tomorrow.
01:57You named a very strong side for the last game against Luton. How are you looking to approach this game
02:02when it comes to your selection tomorrow?
02:04No, we always assess everything. Where are we coming from? Where are we going?
02:10We try to take all the games, all the Cups very seriously and where we are to have the best
02:20possible team.
02:21What have been your early impressions of Valentin Barco?
02:26He's a competitor. You see, he has this heart, this Argentinian heart that he's a fighter. He's very good with
02:33the ball.
02:34He's very open to adapt quick, but he's intelligent. So when he has this mentality and this intelligence, I think
02:43that it's easier to have a better impact. And he's doing it that way.
02:51What more do you need to see from him so that he gets opportunities in big moments?
02:56It's just three games in the Premier League, one game in the Cup that we have had. So it's still
03:02early days for everything, for each player, for the team.
03:07Many things will develop. Many things will be happening. So there will be chances for everyone.
03:13And he's patient, he's intelligent, knowing that he has taken a big and very important step coming from Strasbourg. And
03:22now that the competition is great, it's good, but he's ready for the challenge.
03:28There was a report in Brazil last week that Esteval is concerned about his potential playing opportunities this season. Is
03:35that something that he's expressed to you?
03:37No, Este is ready. He's training well. The other day he had a very good impact. He has a great
03:42chance. So he's fully involved and with very good attitude every day.
03:50Do you feel like he's got an important role to play this season?
03:52Yeah, I count with Este 100% because of his potential. Because he's so young, but he's in that process
04:02to adapt and to learn quick. And his decision is going to be long.
04:08Thanks, James. John?
04:10Have you sat down with Esteval and had a chat with him? Because I suspect from where he's sitting, you
04:15might see it looks difficult for him to get in with his starting at the moment.
04:22You know, about private conversations, I don't like, you know, they should remain private. But the season is not going
04:30to be long. And the players that they have the desire and the hunger to prove and to show every
04:37day that they are up for the challenge, it's what we want, what we want to create here in the
04:42building. And Este is part of it.
04:44So he has had a very good attitude, very good mentality to prepare every game and to be ready for
04:52the team.
04:53As you said, the season is long, but there's no European football. So how important are these cup competitions to
04:59stay in them a long time to give players opportunities?
05:02No, we need everyone involved. The more people you have involved in the team, and the more people they feel
05:10that they are part of playing minutes, the better is for their level, even for the ones that they play
05:17more.
05:17I think that it's important that we use all of them, that they have this feeling. And so far, every
05:26day the dynamic has been very good.
05:28And we always try to say, do you know when he's going to be back this Saturday, potentially? And how
05:34bad is the injury?
05:35Potentially, yes, but we need to wait and probably Thursday, Friday, we will know more.
05:41OK. And where do you think you are? Are you further ahead than you expected to be at this stage?
05:46You obviously don't have been here three months or so. Were you where you expected to be?
05:50We know that it's going to be a long process, but you need to be assessing how are things going.
05:57And so far, I think that we can be happy.
06:01But we need to be self demanding as well, that we can do better, that there are other parts that
06:08we can't afford to have so much time that we need to improve.
06:12For sure, we want to have as many clean sheets as quick as possible. And that's going to be an
06:20issue for every game, knowing that the competition is hard.
06:24But we are taking steps, but still a lot of steps to be taken.
06:30Do you think you need the fans to remember their patience, especially as you say, keeping clean sheets on the
06:34defending side of the other team?
06:35They will come. I'm 100% sure they will come. So we need to work. We need to improve the
06:42areas that we can do better.
06:44I know the areas that we are doing well, trying to emphasize on those parts. But we are learning a
06:50lot from, I am learning myself, from the players, from the team, from the opponents, from the Premier League.
06:55I think we are being part of development. This is not even close to a final product of this Chelsea.
07:02I am sure that, and I have said probably in the first conference,
07:05the Chelsea that we started in August and the Chelsea of even in January or even in May, it will
07:11be different and it will be a much better one.
07:13Thanks, John. Simon?
07:15Do you have a chance to meet each other tomorrow? No, not yet.
07:21How far away are they, do you think?
07:25How far? Ask me on Friday.
07:28Ask me on Friday.
07:29It's a day.
07:30OK. Take a note. That we don't forget.
07:36One of the things that sort of, I just wondered if you sort of realized, because you faced the Chelsea
07:42side that was known for its sort of physicality,
07:45which was sort of always sort of battle and sort of was good at the dark heart.
07:50Is that something that needs to be brought into this thing?
07:53Because I just thought against Arsenal, they just sort of seem to win the physical sort of battle and sort
07:59of the stuff off the ball and sort of the neatly stuff.
08:05Checking the many things during the game, there were moments, so for me it's not time to analyze too much.
08:12But adapting and knowing what it takes for the Premier League, for sure physicality is very important.
08:19We try to analyze many of the data of the game, but having a context always.
08:27So that adaptation to this tempo of these games is very important for some players, some players that have already
08:39done it.
08:40And the approach and the profile of the squad we want and the team that we want needs to cope
08:47with that tempo as well.
08:48I was just wondering, do you think they need to get meaner as a group?
08:53We want to compete. I don't know, meaner or whatever, but we want to compete because that's the best way
08:59to win games.
09:01You need to adapt to compete. And it comes in two ways. It comes in the football way and it
09:09comes in the spirit mentality side.
09:12And in everything we can get better.
09:14Yeah, because they need that tomorrow night against Leeds.
09:16I think Leeds is going to be quite a rivalry game.
09:19Well, tomorrow we are expecting a very, very intense game, very tough, very many situations of duels.
09:28But we need to try to cope with that, find solutions and know that this is going to play an
09:35important role tomorrow.
09:36OK, thank you, everyone. Cameras off, please.
09:39Cameras off, please.
