00:22okay good afternoon and thank you for joining us we shall take the usual format today beginning
00:29with James of Under and Sky Sports News way you go James
00:36he's been better he had the the surgery and and day by day he's feeling better but we still need
00:44to
00:44wait a few weeks a few weeks hopefully less than more but we need to we need to wait but
00:55the good
00:56thing is that he's feeling better and that he wants and we need to be to listen to to his
01:03feelings the
01:03opinion of the doctors as well the the specialism the maxillofascial you said this this this surgeons
01:12and we but considering that it was a bad one he's doing good Malo is fine and Pep he's still
01:24he's
01:25still training a little bit more but he's he's not gonna make it well he's ready he's been training
01:42well he's played a couple of a cup games where he showed that he has a good level even do
01:48they when
01:48he came on against Everton in few minutes he showed his personality his qualities so where that's why
01:57we have a squad to be ready for this kind of situations and we are fully convinced that Mike
02:03can can play very well you said he's ready was there a reason why you didn't think he was the
02:09best
02:10option at the start of this season we wanted to have the best possible options and once we decided
02:17that we will for Emi and I think that we have a good balance I think that Mike is a
02:22keeper for now
02:23and for the future having the support learning with experienced goalkeeper as Emi that he's he's
02:33having a great impact on the team and on Mike and looking forward the next game so we are we
02:40are happy
02:40with with Mike he's prepared do you feel like there are similarities between Mike and Thibaut Courtois who
02:47you've worked with this world a lot there are a lot not just for the nationality for the stature
02:56both left-footed both dominant on on on the air I spoke with Thibaut as well when he was in
03:02the World Cup
03:03asking about Mike and he even said he said himself that he could see resemblances with with Mike and we
03:11need to to help him support him but but for sure he's a keeper for future for present and for
03:15the future
03:16finally you spoke to your old friend Jamie Carragher earlier this week and you said that the Chelsea we are
03:21now
03:21the Chelsea will be in May will be different what is the long-term vision for what this team is
03:26going to look like
03:28no I know that will be different but to tell you what how it's going to be is it's difficult
03:35we go
03:35almost game by week we we our short our side is in a very short period of times now for
03:43mine is almost
03:44just till Sunderland till this international break we have three Premier League games one Cup game so
03:50that's my focus but knowing that along the way there will be good things other things that we have done
03:56well
03:57we have corrected and still many many more things to to discover on this long journey that we have in
04:03this first year thanks James Alex good thank you you very much every every there is a special
04:27you feel the energy you feel the excitement from the from the stands we need that energy to be used
04:33on the pitch because that will connect well and we know that that can be a boost we need to
04:38to have
04:39good good mentality for that we need to have good emotional control as well because you know in the
04:45derbies there's a lot of passion there's a lot of commitment from both sides and play football with
04:52with heart this is what what we want every game every game the midfield is this is a is a
05:04key part of of
05:05the game we we have we have been stronger the last few games they have a good midfield as well
05:13so but we
05:14need a very complete game offensively defensively mentality wise going through difficult moments because
05:20there will be moments for everything but we are we are in a in a good momentum and we want
05:27to follow
05:36up oh he has very clear ideas I think that we see this Tottenham that they follow up what they
05:42did
05:42last year in a difficult situation but still early days so many things to play in the in the season
05:48but
05:48many many of the you see print work that of his the way he likes to to play his teams
05:56and and we
05:57will we will see tomorrow thank you thanks Alex John
06:17I knew about it but tomorrow is is another game like last week you asked me about another data that
06:28we broke that means nothing so we need to prove again that we we can continue that run and knowing
06:35that it's a special game so we need to play with with heart we with head with heart intelligent passionate
06:42energy so we need many things tomorrow well I have seen a good spurs I have seen a good team
06:55even in
06:56bad results and so we are expecting a tough game a tough game against a good opposition that they they
07:04do many many good things that we need to be good prepared with the world what to do in in
07:10different
07:10in different momentums and still game seven this is going to be game eight I think so early days for
07:21everything for everything for everything we have more time you can focus more and on the game with
07:31in in advance preparing things we're working on specific working on general things and for sure
07:37we are using the time and that's that's being good now this is happens in in primary this is no
07:47news
07:47we were it was matter of time that we were going to have big games and this week is going
07:53to three
07:53massive games against top top clubs so step by step we start for tomorrow thanks John Simon
08:04he's feeling better yeah but still we we need to wait we need to wait
08:11how are you finding the management side of things because when things are going great obviously you've
08:17got quite a settled sort of 11 13 players but the players I asked you about yesterday before but
08:30yeah it's it's really like I've said there will be moments for for everyone for sure all the players
08:36they want to play and I understand when when they are disappointed after not playing for a few games
08:41and this is normal you know it's it's not like rocket science to understand that this this is going
08:46to happen how to deal with them they need to feel that they will be important on some stage that
08:51they
08:52need to be ready because this is what it takes the professional and the elite football that
08:55whenever you are given the chance you need to to show that you are you are for that they are
09:00they
09:00are training well we have a good dynamic every day so in any circumstance I am confident that whoever
09:07is has to play will be ready for that yeah I do a lot of talking with the team individual
09:19with units it's
09:20you need to sometimes you need to explain things sometimes you need to be more take a little bit more
09:26distance
09:26thanks simon and we'll finish with rob
09:30what's part of the reason behind bringing in emmy martinez in the first place at the club wanted that kind
09:35of established
09:36senior goalkeeper for the next year or two years until right well that's that's a question that probably I replied
09:46before right on game few weeks ago but yeah we considered that it was a position that we could improve
09:53and we could improve with uh with a
09:56with a keeper of the the structure of of divu that he was that he he could he could change
10:02his club and we took the decision it was it was not an easy one that you have to take
10:07when it's such a an important one to take in in a special position as a
10:12as a goalkeeper, but we checked, we analysed, and we decided that it was the right one,
10:18that it had to be taken, and we are happy with that.
10:21Is there an expectation for any player kind of mentorship role?
10:28That happens in a very natural way. It's not that you have to be the mentor and you have
10:34this certificate. No, no, it's much more. This happens naturally, spontaneously, every
10:40day, because Emi likes to talk, not just with the other keepers, but with the defenders
10:48as well. He is very communicative. He needs to have this sense that they are close and
10:57it's happening.
10:59Great. Thanks, Rob. Thanks, everyone. We'll end that section there.
11:02Cameras off, please.
