00:05It was history in the making, India's first ever pink test, the first ever day-night test match
00:11that was played in India and what an iconic venue. Eden Gardens saw a rampant Team India
00:17dominate. Over the past two days, over 40,000 people came up every single day. Passionate
00:23supporters watching Team India perform with that pink ball. Ishaan Sharma had nine wickets,
00:28the first Indian bowler to get a five-wicket haul with a pink ball and then the captain,
00:33Captain Fearless Virat Kohli, the first Indian batsman to score a century, ensuring that they
00:38beat Bangladesh in this two-match test series by innings in this match. Which means that India
00:47have now become the first team to win four consecutive test matches by in innings. That's
00:52emphatic, that's extraordinary. Yes, Mushfika Rahim did try and stand tall for Bangladesh,
00:57but look at those figures for Ishaan Sharma, for Amesh Yadav, who also got a five-wicket
01:02haul and for Virat Kohli getting a hundred. It has been now 12 consecutive series victories
01:07for Team India at home. Here on Match Point, we're joined by Gautam Gambhir and Gauthi, we
01:14look back on these past three days. There's so many things that we can take away. How about
01:17taking away the statement that this Team India has made in their first ever pink test? See,
01:23obviously they were ruthless, no doubt about it. If you can finish the game in what, two
01:26days, in what, one session, not even the entire first session, obviously show that how dominant
01:30you are at home and probably that's the reason why you're the number one side in the world.
01:35But the actual competitions will be once you go to New Zealand and then you go to Australia,
01:38then England comes here. Obviously, they've been ruthless against South Africa. They've
01:42been very dominating against Bangladesh and before South Africa, West Indies. So that's
01:46why they are right at the top in the points table of World Test Championship. And I'm sure
01:50with the kind of bowling attacks they've got, they've got to be absolutely same in New Zealand
01:54or in Australia again. One of the questions was how the pink ball was going to behave from
01:58a batsman's perspective. And Virat Kohli showed exactly how you bat in different phases. That's
02:0227 test centuries for him now, 20 as a captain. But that's century against the pink ball.
02:07What would you take away most from that innings? Probably just the application. Because the
02:14thing is, irrespective of what opposition you play and you know that they're not the best in
02:19the world, especially in red ball or pink ball cricket. But again, the kind of application
02:24in the first 59 runs which he got, he got into the middle when India lost two wickets.
02:29It was twilight, ball was doing a little bit and then he was able to just apply himself.
02:33And then once he was unbeaten overnight, obviously it would have got much more easier for him.
02:37And that is what he showed on day two, that he was able to dominate them on day two as
02:41well.
02:42So probably it's just the application and respecting the conditions and the opposition.
02:45Now the batsmen have that opportunity to kind of express themselves. 19 wickets in this test match
02:50fall to Seema's. Mehmedullah retired her. So you know, you couldn't figure in that 20th. It's a huge
02:55statement that this Indian pace attack that didn't have Bhubaneshwar Kumar, that didn't have
02:59Jaspreet Bhumrah, that keep making time and time again. And that too on home conditions.
03:03See, we've been talking a lot about Indian fast bowling. We don't give them enough credit, but then there has
03:07to
03:07be something about Bangladeshi batters as well. There's a lot of work to be done if they want to still
03:12play test
03:13cricket and do well in test cricket. If you just want to go out there and play test cricket for
03:17the heck of it,
03:17you can continue playing the same way. There has been a lot of question marks on their technique.
03:21But again, this quality of this bowling attack doesn't give you anything away. They've got pace, they've got skill,
03:25they've got accuracy, they've got that knack of taking wickets every time. So the thing is,
03:33as much credit you want to give it to the fast bowlers, it's less because they are quality. But again,
03:37a lot of question marks in the Bangladeshi dressing room.
03:40Gauti, just based on your own assessment, have we seen more day and night test matches that should
03:44be in India's future at home? See, it's a tough question. If you want to get the crowds,
03:51obviously you want to have more pink ball cricket, but you don't expose it too much as well because
03:54you want it to be kind of a festival event. But you can probably have two or three in a
03:59season,
04:00but not probably more than that. Because you still want to have that traditional kind of
04:04thing that you want to play with red ball cricket. You want those early morning starts,
04:08and you want that first session to go towards the bowler and then the third session going towards
04:11the bowler. But again, just to get the crowds and probably just to have kind of a change,
04:17you can have one or two, but against good quality opposition. You want to play
04:20pink ball cricket against teams like Australia, England, New Zealand, and that is where you're
04:26going to see the actual challenge. Because you play against countries like Bangladesh,
04:29you play against countries like Sri Lanka, I don't think you'll get that kind of a challenge
04:33because there's a huge gap between India and the rest of the other teams, somewhere like Bangladesh
04:37or Sri Lanka for that matter. Gautam, thank you so much for joining us. It was a historic first for
