00:30Inquiry findings as selective prosecution aimed at tarnishing the party.
00:36He noted that discussions at UMNO's recent Musyawara Nasional suggested the party had chosen the second approach.
00:43Syariel said speakers at the forum leaned towards arguing that Tabung Haji had no problems, was not insolvent, and had
00:51not suffered losses.
00:52However, he maintained that the RCI finding that Tabung Haji's liabilities had exceeded its assets was a fact that could
01:00not be denied.
01:02Syariel also cited former Auditor General Madina Mohamad's disclosure that she had considered issuing a qualified audit certificate in 2018.
01:11Madina had decided against doing so after discussing the matter with then Prime Minister Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, fearing it could
01:19trigger a run on Tabung Haji.
01:22Syariel also pointed to Urus Harta Jama'ah Sendirian Berhad's 2018 acquisition of Tabung Haji assets, which he described as
01:31a bailout.
01:32He argued that UMNO had therefore missed a chance to appear more responsible to voters who were considering whether to
