00:00He loses it all at once.
00:02He was absolutely dealing last night.
00:05He was dealing in his last start against the Astros.
00:08He has reached 100 pitches one time this season.
00:12He has thrown 100 pitches one time this year.
00:15Now, I'm sure some of those starts, he's been held back by the manager coming back from injury.
00:19They don't like to extend these guys.
00:20I understand why.
00:21Too many up-downs.
00:22Too many up-downs.
00:24But you look at him last night, he's cruising along in that game.
00:28And then all at once, he loses it.
00:31And you have to go to Hedrick in the sixth inning to get out of a jam.
00:36And as you look at this Yankee bullpen, even in a postseason series, there are three guys you trust.
00:42If you can't get into the sixth inning with Cole, and it's not just Cole.
00:46Max Freed and his start is going to be piggybacked by Will Warren.
00:50Cam Schlittler has thrown more innings than he ever has in his career.
00:53And we've seen him over the last handful of starts.
00:56Even when he's got great stuff, maybe his being a little tired has caused him to be wild.
01:01But also, with so many strikeouts, the pitch count can rise quickly on him.
01:05So even in this great starting rotation, I'm seeing Cam Schlittler, who even when he's dominant,
01:10has a tendency to sometimes not go deep into games.
01:13A Max Freed coming off his second IL stint, who already is being piggybacked by Will Warren.
01:18Now, they have a month to get there with him.
01:19But I see a Garrett Cole, who even at his best, we've seen get tired quick, and it falls off
01:26immediately.
01:26Last night, blazing along, all of a sudden a base hit leaves a breaking ball up to a bad hitter.
01:31It gets sent down the right field line for a triple.
01:34And suddenly, one of your only three relievers, and they're waiting for more guys.
01:38But they're waiting for guys who've traditionally been starters.
01:41Like, they're waiting for guys to join this bullpen who have been guys who can give you innings.
01:44Guys who have better arms than some of the back end guys.
01:46Like, it's an upgrade over the lousy part of the Yankee bullpen.
01:50But is it guys who have experience coming into jams with runners on because your starter lost it within, you
01:57know, a few pitches?
01:58And that's my one concern about the Yankee rotation because I think it's excellent.
02:02I think it's the best in baseball, arguably, right there with the Dodgers.
02:06I think they get into a postseason series against anybody.
02:09And you can make an argument the Yankees have the advantage in the starting rotation.
02:12But the one thing that scares me is, can these guys get deep into games?
02:16And even for the next month, how taxed is bullpen going to be?
02:20I know I'm focused on it, but it's literally the one thing that scares me the most.
02:23And Garrett Cole last night, even when he's at his best, it felt like you could tell.
02:29And I completely, I think Boone was 100% right to get him out of the game.
02:32He had to.
02:34This isn't about how they handle him.
02:35This is about the idea that even at their best, how deep can these guys go?
02:39And Cole specifically seems to lose it in an instant.
