00:02An adult wild male elephant, known as Sulong, has been safely relocated to the Terengganu
00:08National Park. Sulong had drawn public attention when it emerged along the East-West Highway
00:14recently. The Wildlife and National Parks Department said Sulong was moved through
00:19the Tasik Kenya entrance to a suitable forest habitat on Tuesday. They said the translocation
00:26was carried out to provide the elephant with a safer environment while reducing the risk
00:31of human-elephant conflict and road accidents. They said they had been monitoring the elephant's
00:37movements and condition, including an injury to his right leg, since August 17. They said
00:43as an adult male, Sulong's solitary movement is natural and does not mean he was separated
00:48from his herd. Following assessments of his safety, location and health, the department
00:54successfully recaptured him last Sunday along the highway in Garrick. He was then translocated
01:01with police support and the assistance of two trained elephants, Rambai and Sherry.
01:07The department said Sulong received veterinary treatment throughout the operation,
01:11with his leg injury showing positive improvement.
