00:00we have a variety of interests and talents and some of them you know people haven't seen you
00:05know because we're all so visible people have grown up with us and have seen that part of us
00:10but now they get to experience a new dimension of who we are and additional talents that we have
00:19virtual reality i'm so excited to chat with you guys all about this show it's so exciting for
00:25every like 90s lover and hgtv lover so i want to start with a question for all of you you
00:30know what
00:30made you want to sort of move away from this crazy hollywood world and into this hgtv space
00:36well i don't think any of us are moving away from it it's just an and not an or if
00:40that makes sense
00:41um so we all and i you know start me i believe i'm speaking to everyone is that it's all
00:51something
00:51that we're passionate about you know like anyone we have a variety of interests and talents and some
00:57of them you know people haven't seen you know because we're also visible people have grown up
01:02with us and have seen that part of us but now they get to experience a new dimension of who
01:07we are
01:08and additional talents that we have yeah yeah i don't think i could could have said it better that
01:13was great yeah that's great i was about to say yeah i mean we're producing like shows over here we're
01:18making movies this is like one of you know this was this is like our our side passion project you
01:24know building stuff we love making stuff and this was a great opportunity to uh to do that with hgtv
01:30but in no means does it mean we're moving you know we're moving out of the entertainment industry
01:36after 50 years well i'm sorry guys i'm glad to hear that listen you can wear a million hats and
01:43and you can do it all you have to no no you you have to in this day and age
01:47if you don't wear a
01:48million ads forget it you're ancient history and you're out the door it's true it's true well you
01:53know i have to ask and like not to start on a sad note but melissa you actually went viral
01:58a couple
01:59years ago for posting your bathroom the design everybody was like oh my god this is so cool and you
02:04had a picture of dolly parton above your toilet um i i do want to ask i don't know if
02:09you guys have
02:10really been on the internet in the last half an hour but what was your reaction to her passing and
02:14you know what no i know i don't know if you guys have seen it yet really we didn't know
02:20we've been
02:21here so we didn't know it that was the first thing i was like oh my god i'm going into
02:26this interview
02:27and her bathroom and dolly parton and i need to ask you about it and i assume that that picture
02:32will
02:32be well i am here in tennessee i'm in tennessee where the license plate have her face on them and
02:38i was
02:38just at her new storytellers hotel sunday for brunch um it's not open yet but there's a restaurant
02:44around the corner and my son was in dollywood this weekend so that is really shocking and really
02:51really upsetting i thought she was gonna live forever i thought she was i mean what an incredible
02:56person and like the in like what she gave to the world is like there's nobody like her and i
03:06didn't
03:06really know growing up in new york i knew a few of her songs and i knew steel magnolias but
03:10i didn't
03:11really know her work and i didn't know her story and i moved to tennessee and i studied her a
03:15little
03:15bit and i became obsessed with who she is where she came from um and i just i thought she
03:23was gonna
03:23live forever that's so upsetting seems like wow people that were right your dolly pardon um i don't
03:30like you when it comes out of nowhere like that it makes me feel it's terrible well no she has
03:34been
03:34having issues yeah yeah such a strong lady i think she wasn't quite actually up as up front about what
03:42those health issues were because she's you know she's been fighting it for a few years now with touring
03:46and you know wow what yeah that's terrible news what i was gonna say with her husband passed not too
03:52long ago you know they had such an incredible love story and a lot of times when one spouse passes
04:01you know the other one joins them in the transition so on a lighter note i'm really grateful that their
04:08souls are reunited i mean she's left us with such an amazing just legacy of of work
04:16and in in front of the camera behind the camera and how she's shown up you know even as a
04:20human
04:21being in this world you know she's she's done her job and i um am grateful that they can be
04:28together
04:29and um we get to we get the privilege and the joy of continuing to experience all that she's left
04:36behind
04:36yeah that's really incredible you lose these you lose these legends that are um that are irreplaceable
04:42you know yeah so you have to just like uh yeah you have to just enjoy everything absolutely that
04:47they've left behind just like keisha said but it's it's really it's a legacy she she leaves a really
04:52really there are just these these legends are just i don't know what it is about the world or entertainment
04:58as a as a whole or whatever but they're just we're not replacing these people not that they're
05:03replaceable in any way but there's nobody even really filling their shoes you know there's nobody
05:07there like that today you know so as these legends pass away there really isn't anybody to sort of
05:14like step in and and say okay i will continue you know i'll take the baton and sort of continue
05:19to
05:19walk forward you know on this kind of scale that transcends so many different generations and uh you
05:25know in so many different ways people just aren't entertaining like that anymore it's really interesting
05:30well you know keisha i do want to ask you you know about a comment you made in the series
05:34you said you
05:34had a lot of fond memories from working with matthew as a kid what's one that immediately comes to mind
05:40um i think this is one that involves joey and matthew um we always talk about um whether it's running
05:47into each other at like disney during those days or the trip we did to norway and to all that
05:53we were
05:53like denmark norway the andy um williams williams christmas special special finland finland yes
06:01we were in norway too i think we went to a couple different we did we we crossed over into
06:06norway
06:06but we spent the majority of the time in helsinki yeah it was cold and it was snowy and oh
06:12yeah it
06:13was a lot of fun though so it it made like this it was almost like a homecoming where you
06:19know we've
06:20known each other whether we've seen each other all the time we have since we were itty bitty and getting
06:26to work together as adults has been fun we had a good time should have a good time yeah you
06:31know
06:32what's interesting about that finland trip there was this it was well first of all finland it's it's
06:38the home of santa claus and they they claim that they had reindeers and oh yeah yeah my daughter
06:43wants to go for that reason everything was decorated but unlike way we decorate here there all the
06:50decorations were handmade and a lot of them were were whittled out of wood and so i bought uh a
06:57christmas ornament set of these little hand wooden whittled ornaments of like a little bird and a
07:03little tree now and i have i still i bought like enough to decorate a whole tree i still have
07:08mom
07:08yes yes five of them held on to from that trip i still have our mother our mother stocked up
07:16on a
07:16whole bunch of stuff and we actually had a finland tree did have a finland we had our like santa
07:21we
07:21had our santa claus tree but we had another treaty down stairs that was our finland tree and it was
07:26all the handmade wooden instruments and and wooden ornaments and the and the and the yarn ornaments and
07:32remember the the uh the um garland but it was it was red beads but they were handmade wooden beads
07:38and carved very cool yeah well i have to ask because in the trailer we saw this moment where
07:48you know melissa it looks like you're going to be stepping away midway through the series i just
07:52wanted to check in with you is everything okay can you share anything about why that happened and
07:57and joey you know were you just ready to take that call ready to jump in there you know when
08:01they needed
08:02you oh no so i was laughing it was joey's face oh yeah i had to work my brotherly magic
08:10over here guys
08:12on both sides brotherly and magic um i so yes i i got a call like right away in the
08:19beginning of
08:20um production that um that i had a big project come up that i've been waiting to do and um
08:25and so i had
08:26to run off and and take that gig and uh joey stepped in for me so that was um i
08:31was you know
08:32really lucky that joey stepped in and really lucky that hgtv let me step out for a minute and um
08:38and
08:38you know still got to come back and complete the project we have that on tape right she said she
08:43was
08:43really lucky that i had to step in i'm so lucky because you're in my life joey yeah see it's
08:48the
08:49roundabout see what happens when you have a hit tv show with somebody see all the love
08:53you know what's funny he says the same thing to me mel do you know what it is have a
08:58hit tv show
09:01no no no no no uh yeah no i wasn't i wasn't expecting or anything like you know i wasn't
09:07ready
09:07but it was it was cool it was cool i always you know i it's it's all good it worked
09:11out worked out
09:12it was slipping for a couple weeks at the end yeah so it did and it makes for good television
09:17i do have one really really quick question for you guys if there's time um but i know you guys
09:22have
09:22all starred in such iconic shows and your opponent jody sweeten recently opened up about receiving
09:27a one cent residual check from full house and i know this has been like a big conversation the last
09:31few years have the rest of you shared a similar experience with you know the shows you've been in
09:38yeah i still get paid for i was in crocodile dundee um and even though you will not see my
09:44face in it
09:44i was cut out um i still get my 26 cents every few months or something yeah it's you know
09:51that it
09:51it dwindles right there's a there's a program to it all but um there's actually a bar in la
09:58called residuals where you can take your residuals yeah that's right yeah right right opposite cbs
