00:00:30Now, the Broncos just went five plays, 65 yards.
00:00:32It took a minute eight.
00:00:35Jaleel McLaughlin with a 20-yard receiving touchdown.
00:00:38He has two receiving touchdowns this preseason.
00:00:41Sam Ellinger, their second quarterback, six-year from Texas.
00:00:47Four of five, 65 yards on that possession.
00:00:51Pretty good.
00:00:54Kevin O'Connell, head coach of the Minnesota Vikings,
00:00:57joins the broadcast.
00:00:58Mic'd up from the sideline for the entire third quarter.
00:01:02Rosemar, facing a four-man rush.
00:01:05Throws over middle-ish, incomplete.
00:01:08Dante Fleming, the intended receiver, feels like the pass was tipped.
00:01:12It'll be second down.
00:01:13Yeah, it does feel like the ball was tipped.
00:01:16It's just a quick little rush there.
00:01:18Right tackle gets beat on a spin move on the inside,
00:01:21and then that ball just came out flat and kind of had a wobble to it.
00:01:25I'm not sure who tipped it, but pretty clear that that's why it was inaccurate.
00:01:29Let's try to get that thing to the plus 45 and put Reichardt on the field and see what happens.
00:01:36Second and ten, Rosemar, deep drop, steps up, hit as he throws, throws left flat, caught.
00:01:41Gavin Bartholomew at the 37, thrust out of bounds after a gain of two, maybe three, clock stops.
00:01:50And we saw Gavin Bartholomew cut himself, cut back into the inside.
00:01:55But in this case, we still have three timeouts.
00:01:57He does the prudent thing, and that's get out of bounds, make the clock stop.
00:02:00That's what wide receivers and tight ends.
00:02:03We talked about awareness just on defense a minute ago.
00:02:06But offensively, you have to have that same premise.
00:02:09You have to understand what part of the game that you're in
00:02:11and that you've got to get yourself out of bounds to get just maybe one more offensive play.
00:02:16Third and eight, Rosemar, shotgun, Claiborne right in front of him, Broncos blitz.
00:02:22Max, throws left, incomplete.
00:02:26Intended receiver, Dylan Bell, play took four seconds, fourth and eight.
00:02:30Fourth and eight, and Johnny Hecker's coming in to punt.
00:02:35Yeah, unfortunate in that situation.
00:02:37Again, this whole drive, the Broncos did not bring a lot of pressure.
00:02:40It's just a four-man rush.
00:02:42The pockets collapsed, and they're just doing a good job of just bullrushing our offense alignment
00:02:46and closing everything down for our quarterback,
00:02:49who just had two balls on those three plays tipped at the line of scrimmage.
00:02:58Hecker punching to Cameron Ross.
00:03:03Good snap.
00:03:05Right-footed, spiraling boomer.
00:03:08Ross runs up on it, bobbles it, and jumped on it at the 11-yard line,
00:03:14and that's the end of the first half.
00:03:16Vikings get the ball to start the second half.
00:03:18We have Kevin O'Connell mic'd up all third quarter.
00:03:22That's coming up shortly.
00:03:23Enjoy halftime on the Minnesota Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:03:38Courtesy of the Vikings Entertainment Network on a gorgeous Friday night in Denver, Colorado.
00:03:43Welcome back.
00:03:44We welcome FM 100.3 KFAN and the Minnesota Vikings KFAN Audio Network.
00:03:51Back to the equation.
00:03:52And we thank Hammer Maid.
00:03:55This is our final preseason TV game.
00:03:58We only get two or three every year.
00:04:00And Hammer Maid, hammermaid.com, Jason, everybody with Hammer Maid.
00:04:04They outfit us quite nicely, man.
00:04:06You guys look wonderful.
00:04:07They can make radio guys look good.
00:04:09They're doing their job.
00:04:11Yeah.
00:04:11The fits are great.
00:04:12Love the selection, the colors, and the actual fit feels good.
00:04:16All right, so we've mentioned it several times in the first half.
00:04:20By the way, Denver leads 20-6.
00:04:22Vikings get the ball to begin the second half.
00:04:25Head coach Kevin O'Connell will be joining us for all of the third quarter.
00:04:29Mic'd up on the sideline.
00:04:31In one ear, he'll have offensive coordinator Wes Phillips call.
00:04:35In the other ear, he'll hear the broadcast team.
00:04:38Third time we've done this.
00:04:39What do you guys have prepared, and what do you like about KO joining us?
00:04:43It's just fun to hear the entire process that goes through every single play,
00:04:48from the play call to the execution to the look to the adjustments.
00:04:52It was so much fun last year to hear him talk to that.
00:04:55I'm looking forward to hearing that again, Ben.
00:04:57Yeah, it's kind of the same thing.
00:04:58Every time we get a chance to talk to him,
00:05:00whether it's just a regular media scrum or a situation like this,
00:05:04I feel like he's very honest.
00:05:05He's very transparent about what's going on.
00:05:08And, you know, the live reactions is fantastic.
00:05:11It's just something that you don't get a chance to see ever.
00:05:14And that's the only time we're going to see it this season as well.
00:05:17So, love the opportunity.
00:05:18And, of course, Neil, I think you want to talk about just his relationship
00:05:22and that chemistry and the collaboration with the new front office.
00:05:26That'll be a big talker as well.
00:05:29Don't forget, we're going to be able to talk to Josh Metellus eventually.
00:05:32Or not talk to Aaron Jones, but Josh Metellus.
00:05:34Josh Metellus will be playing calling a defense.
00:05:37Did I just see a Kevin O'Connell smile?
00:05:40Oh, yeah.
00:05:40Oh, there he is.
00:05:41Oh, yeah.
00:05:42What's going on, buddy?
00:05:43I'm doing great.
00:05:44How are you guys?
00:05:44Right on, man.
00:05:45You've got to start the ball with that.
00:05:48We've got to start the half with the ball here.
00:05:50Yeah.
00:05:50We've got to put together a drive, man.
00:05:53We've missed some off to getting some momentum in this football game.
00:05:56And regardless of who's in the game, I want to see these guys stack some plays.
00:06:00We can get some drives off to a good start here, get some positive plays.
00:06:04I like how Coach Phillips used a little tempo to try to get us going when Max came in the
00:06:08game.
00:06:08But just looking for some clean execution.
00:06:13And a lot of guys here with a lot of important snaps.
00:06:16You know, I just told them in the locker room at halftime, you know,
00:06:19there's opportunities in life.
00:06:22And playing in an NFL game, getting to compete to go try to win.
00:06:24And let's come from behind and go win this thing right now.
00:06:27You know, and I'm glad you mentioned that about tempo, the no-huddle approach.
00:06:31And now, obviously, you don't prefer Dylan Bell being missed the way he was.
00:06:37But when you guys went tempo, when you went fast,
00:06:41Brosmer seemed to pick it up pretty nicely.
00:06:43Yeah.
00:06:44No, it's just a matter of, you know, sometimes a change of tempo, you know,
00:06:48we're trying to attack a little bit.
00:06:51We're trying to, you know, just change up the pace of the, you know, sub-huddle, sub-huddle, sub-huddle.
00:06:57And just go attack mode for a little bit and see if we can steal some yards.
00:07:00And that's what Max did.
00:07:01And then would have loved to finish that drive with a touchdown.
00:07:04All right.
00:07:04Dylan Bell is back up.
00:07:05Gotcha.
00:07:06Thank you, Tyler.
00:07:07Will Watts, Bone.
00:07:09What do you think about giving him the Aggie?
00:07:12I'm great.
00:07:13I'm great.
00:07:15Some sneaky intel from the offensive coordinator.
00:07:19He's asking permission to throw the football on first down.
00:07:23And anybody who knows me, that's like Flo asking permission to send an all-out pressure.
00:07:28The answer is always going to be yes.
00:07:31I'm just kidding.
00:07:33Can you give us any insight on what you guys might think as far as who's going to be the
00:07:37primary target
00:07:37if we're going to air it out right here on first down?
00:07:39Yeah, so this will be four verticals.
00:07:44There's four verticals, as you can imagine, Ben.
00:07:46We're going to be sending two go balls on the outside.
00:07:49We've got teams that will be available on the inside.
00:07:51So four verticals.
00:07:53Those that play video games at home, it's a favorite.
00:07:56See if we can get the...
00:07:57It looks like we're just going to get straight quarters here, so we might have to check the ball down.
00:08:00New tight end.
00:08:01Maybe we run by him on a go ball.
00:08:03Send it, Max.
00:08:04See, he's smart.
00:08:06He's smarter than I am.
00:08:07Look at that drive starter.
00:08:08So you get quarters there.
00:08:09That really coverage is designed to take away exactly what we call it,
00:08:14but that still leaves the Mike linebacker one-on-one on the halfback.
00:08:18Great job by Max finding Jay for a nice positive gain on first down.
00:08:22And Xavier Scott, a former wide receiver, he's a running back and a special teams guy for you.
00:08:29He's so polished catching the ball.
00:08:31Yeah, I mean, you guys remember last year in Dublin, you know, we were...
00:08:35The way the coverage kind of presented that day, he had a bunch of man-to-man matchups versus a
00:08:40linebacker,
00:08:42and we were trying to get him going a lot of the day, and he made that great catch in
00:08:45the red zone.
00:08:45It's just a standard run here, kind of a mid-wide zone.
00:08:49Just not getting enough of the edge right now.
00:08:51You know, trying to do a lot of the things, guys, that he's been really emphasizing from a zone standpoint.
00:08:57I haven't seen it go up tonight, you know, with the physicality that we're looking for while they're still trying
00:09:03to run zone, run plays.
00:09:06You know, Coach, you talk about the run-after-catch.
00:09:09The one guy that had a few opportunities was Gavin Bartholomew.
00:09:12Yeah.
00:09:12That's going to be a huge part of his evaluation is how many yards he can get after the catch.
00:09:16You know, Gavin's getting better and better right here, so I do want to get into this, though.
00:09:20We've got a chance.
00:09:21We've got a chance to throw a little pick play right here.
00:09:23Keep your eye on Flemm and Dylan Bell.
00:09:25See if we can get this ball out of there.
00:09:27Just have to beat the dropper right there.
00:09:29Bang.
00:09:29Nice.
00:09:30Oh, no way!
00:09:31Come on now!
00:09:32Hey, that better be a pick all day.
00:09:34Come on now!
00:09:36Hey!
00:09:38No way!
00:09:39I don't even want you to touch it!
00:09:42What did you guys see up there?
00:09:43Did we actually hit him?
00:09:46Yeah, it looked incidental to me.
00:09:49I don't know about you, Ben, but from this angle, it looked good to me.
00:09:52We'll get the replay going here in a minute.
00:09:56So is that the situation?
00:09:59You could stand there, body screen, you could just get an issue in contact?
00:10:03Yeah, you really, yeah.
00:10:04Like, we didn't need to do that.
00:10:07You know, that's a classic example.
00:10:08That might be the first time Dylan Bell's ever run that play.
00:10:11And, you know, he's a big physical guy, but when we get a double bump look like that,
00:10:16where both those defenders are playing tight man-to-man coverage, it's a good call by West.
00:10:20We've got to execute that without a penalty.
00:10:23Bros.
00:10:23Bang right there.
00:10:24Ow!
00:10:25Come on, Max.
00:10:27So, it's just a good example, right?
00:10:29We get that play, get that drive started with a smart play by Max on first down.
00:10:36Second and short, we've got a chance to run the football.
00:10:39Don't see the physicality that we're necessarily looking for.
00:10:42Don't get the edge.
00:10:43Just kind of a zone play, dead in the water right there.
00:10:45And then just a simple third down, kind of everyday kind of execution we're looking for right there.
00:10:51And if we get that first down, you get a chance to do the things that we talked about at
00:10:56halftime.
00:10:56You don't get it via penalty.
00:10:57Now you're third and long.
00:10:59And you go from advantage off of first down to really being at a disadvantage.
00:11:03And now we're punting.
00:11:03So, just not good enough right now, guys.
00:11:06Wow.
00:11:06Thorson, high spiral.
00:11:08That's a great punt right there.
00:11:09Cats is.
00:11:10Oh, Zay got tripped up.
00:11:12Circumnavigating right side.
00:11:14Lang got blocked in the back.
00:11:16There's the flag.
00:11:18Well, don't throw it now.
00:11:20I mean, you've got to see the first one.
00:11:24Well, Lang got blocked in the back.
00:11:26That should be the penalty.
00:11:27Yeah, and I don't even know if they called that one.
00:11:29Really?
00:11:30I think it came from the far side of the field, coach, so you may not have been able to
00:11:33see it.
00:11:33I'm 300 yards away, and I saw it.
00:11:36Guys, I saw it.
00:11:37I saw it.
00:11:37The problem is my good buddies down here didn't see it.
00:11:43Hold on, Seth.
00:11:45What do you guys got?
00:11:47Face mask.
00:11:49You guys block against them.
00:11:52You got the block in the back?
00:11:53Yes.
00:11:54So, they're both there in return, so it's a double after.
00:11:57So, we're going to go to the spot.
00:11:58Either the black and the black.
00:11:59And it'll be the ball at the spot.
00:12:01Circumnavigating number 38.
00:12:02Okay.
00:12:02So, 31 yard line.
00:12:03Personal foul.
00:12:04Face mask.
00:12:05Take it to team number 17.
00:12:07Is the penalty offset right here?
00:12:10First down.
00:12:12Jefferson, one of your running backs.
00:12:16We're taking a look at the replay now.
00:12:19And Jefferson jumped him around the neck.
00:12:22Didn't get the horse collar, but he did get the face mask right by the sideline.
00:12:26Lots of a fair amount of special teams penalties this preseason, right, KO?
00:12:30Yeah, too many.
00:12:31I mean, and look, there's a lot of guys out here that when your roster gets slimmed down
00:12:37on these days, we're sitting guys.
00:12:39You get a lot of guys doing double duty, and, you know, we're obviously at altitude.
00:12:43So, there just can't be the looseness to how you play.
00:12:46You got to, when you're tired, you got to rely on your technique and fundamentals.
00:12:50Let me switch over to the defensive side here.
00:12:54Jonathan Harris with a nice thrust.
00:12:57Feels like he's been here about 48 hours.
00:12:59And, sadly, a Viking is down now.
00:13:03Is that the other Jacob?
00:13:05Are you getting it?
00:13:06Jacob Roberts.
00:13:08Do you guys see it?
00:13:09So, Thomas in the first half, Roberts right now.
00:13:18So, he got twisted up there in the bottom of the pile.
00:13:24So.
00:13:32So, you have Tyler Williams right off the floor of Jacob Roberts.
00:13:37That's the vice president of sports performance for the Vikings.
00:13:40His main man, Connor.
00:13:43And Chris Larson from Twin Cities Orthopedics Performance Center.
00:13:48And MCL.
00:13:49What?
00:13:50MCL.
00:13:51Okay.
00:14:01All right.
00:14:0212.45 to go in the third quarter.
00:14:04Second and ten for Denver.
00:14:06Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell mic'd up on the sideline.
00:14:09Running back Aaron Jones will be mic'd up on the sideline in the fourth quarter.
00:14:13And Denver leads by a couple of TDs.
00:14:15Katsas in motion to the right.
00:14:18Ellinger under center.
00:14:21We got a tackle.
00:14:22To McLaughlin.
00:14:23Had two chances out of him.
00:14:25Yeah.
00:14:25Bengali.
00:14:26Camara with a missed tackle.
00:14:28Come on, PK.
00:14:29You got a matchup.
00:14:30So, that'll miss the first down by about a yard.
00:14:32Yeah, coach, you had Chaz Chambliss on a nice stunt underneath.
00:14:35He got a chance to play a little offense that we saw earlier.
00:14:38This kid's doing whatever it takes to get on this team, isn't he?
00:14:42Oh, man.
00:14:43He's, you know, you ask anybody in the locker room, you ask anybody on our staff.
00:14:47I mean, this guy, he's exactly what you want.
00:14:50Tough, loves football.
00:14:51I mean, we asked him, you know, early on in the training camp where, you know, as we started
00:14:56to really build out, like, you know, our packages with Max Bredesen in the game.
00:15:01You know, we're looking at our roster.
00:15:03Okay, who can handle that procedure?
00:15:06What was that?
00:15:08Were we in the neutral zone right there?
00:15:10I don't know.
00:15:11That's them?
00:15:12Yeah, false start, I think.
00:15:13All right.
00:15:14This number 70 was uncovered.
00:15:16Five-yard penalty.
00:15:17That's great.
00:15:18Third down.
00:15:18I told Bill, I told Bill there was some ticky-tack stuff in the first half on us.
00:15:23Would love to see that here.
00:15:25Hey, Kevin, Bill Ginevich just said that the player for the Denver Broncos, Tyler Miller,
00:15:32one of their backup tackles, was uncovered.
00:15:34For those who are watching or listening who don't understand that, what's that mean?
00:15:38Yeah, so we need, you need to have, you know, somebody, you need to have a player, an eligible
00:15:43receiver needs to be on the ball.
00:15:45And when that does not happen, unlike college football, you'll see people line up with an
00:15:50open side, no eligible receiver on the ball in our league.
00:15:54But we do not have that rule.
00:15:55We need to make sure we don't line up illegally.
00:15:58And that was just an example.
00:15:59Sometimes, now, whether they called that, that's a great job.
00:16:02You see that pursuit right there?
00:16:03It's Jacoby Thomas showing up.
00:16:05Good stop, D.
00:16:07So, like, I talk to our team a lot about this, P.A.
00:16:11Like, this is the exact moment in football games where you would love to start out the
00:16:16second half with a great drive, put seven on the board, and then see if you can get some
00:16:21stops and go compete.
00:16:23But we didn't do that.
00:16:24And then defense, you know, they answer the call like they've done a lot this preseason.
00:16:28And they get the stop right there.
00:16:30So, now, it becomes, you know, you might be saying to yourself at home, there's 10.50
00:16:33to go.
00:16:34There's a ton of time left.
00:16:35This game is all about momentum and the little ebbs and flows and swings.
00:16:40And then how do you sustain it?
00:16:42How do you sustain it and what it looks like?
00:16:45Dante Fleming with a fair catch.
00:16:47Kevin O'Connell miked up on the sideline.
00:16:49More with KO and more from Denver around the corner.
00:16:53Broncos lead 20-6 on the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:17:00Courtesy of the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:17:02Welcome back.
00:17:03Ten and a half minutes ago in the third quarter.
00:17:05Broncos lead 20-6.
00:17:07And Kevin O'Connell, head coach of the Vikings, miked up on the sideline.
00:17:11Jacoby Thomas, who made that tackle before we went to break.
00:17:16Interestingly, his all-time favorite player is Harrison Smith.
00:17:20That's right.
00:17:20And he wrapped up McLaughlin kind of like Hitman.
00:17:25Yeah, it was good to see.
00:17:26Jacoby, you know, we told him, you know, the second he got cleared to kind of come back to full
00:17:32contact,
00:17:32we told him he was going to get his money's worth tonight.
00:17:35We're trying to really give him a lion's share of the reps at safety tonight.
00:17:39And love to see him make that play.
00:17:41He's a guy that will come downhill and be real physical.
00:17:44We're excited about his future for sure.
00:17:46What do we got here?
00:17:47So, you should see some fly motion right here.
00:17:50There it goes.
00:17:51And we're going to run a zone play right at us.
00:17:52Right down me.
00:17:54Right to, you know.
00:17:55That's not bad.
00:17:56That's not bad.
00:17:56Good surge.
00:17:57I just, you know, I just talked to the coaches a little bit ago about just really challenging guys.
00:18:02You know, come off the rock.
00:18:04Let's get, let's start having a little bit of a chance at getting this front.
00:18:07Let's see if we can stack some runs.
00:18:10Yeah.
00:18:10So, so right here, I like this call by West.
00:18:15If we get man coverage right here, we're going to take a shot at a play action pass.
00:18:19Any kind of zone look, which it looks like we've got a zone.
00:18:24So now we'll can this and you'll see Max can, can.
00:18:27And now we're running a screen.
00:18:29Yeah.
00:18:29To Xavier Scott.
00:18:31And then we'll see how this thing works out.
00:18:34Looks like we'll just get up some pressure.
00:18:36Get out of there.
00:18:36Here we go.
00:18:37Right there.
00:18:37Boom.
00:18:39It's just not clean.
00:18:40You know, they kind of, bro, that's one of those where, you know, kind of the, on their side,
00:18:47they sent a backer pressure, but a little hesitation out of the backer might save them right there
00:18:53from being a little bit bigger play.
00:18:55Hey, coach, before you even sent the motion, you knew that was zone.
00:18:59What tipped you off to that zone look before you sent the motion?
00:19:02Yeah.
00:19:02So we started out with all of our receivers on one side of the field.
00:19:06We're trying to see if the corner goes over.
00:19:09That would trigger.
00:19:12There you go.
00:19:13F-mo.
00:19:13There you go.
00:19:14So now we're at least in the right formation.
00:19:16But yeah, we can kind of tell by the pre-snap alignment right there.
00:19:19We definitely have some man coverage here.
00:19:22Go get him.
00:19:23Got a chance.
00:19:24Bang.
00:19:24Is he in?
00:19:25Yes, he is.
00:19:26He's in.
00:19:27Yes.
00:19:27Beautiful.
00:19:28Do we need to go fast?
00:19:29You guys see it up there?
00:19:31Yes.
00:19:31Yes, you do.
00:19:32Yeah.
00:19:32Yeah.
00:19:33Yeah.
00:19:33Yeah, go fast.
00:19:34Go fast.
00:19:35Go.
00:19:35Go.
00:19:36Go.
00:19:36Go.
00:19:37Go, Wes.
00:19:38Snap it.
00:19:3926 yards.
00:19:44All snapped.
00:19:45Oh, he's in balance.
00:19:47Did he have control, though?
00:19:48I think that's what they're looking at.
00:19:50Oh, great.
00:19:50Great question.
00:19:51We're taking.
00:19:52Yeah, I got you.
00:19:54Taking a peek at the replay now.
00:19:56Boy, Fleming beating by five yards.
00:19:59That left foot.
00:20:00Yeah.
00:20:03All right.
00:20:04Challenge in play on the Fleming.
00:20:0626-yard hit.
00:20:0820 to 6.
00:20:09Dead for eight.
00:20:09Foot's close.
00:20:10Hey, so.
00:20:11Oh, we got to go to break.
00:20:13All right.
00:20:13We'll come back with Kevin O'Connell.
00:20:15Most of the Vikings mic'd up on the sideline.
00:20:18This is fantastic.
00:20:19Challenge in play.
00:20:20Bronx by 14.
00:20:21It's Vikings football.
00:20:26Thanks to the Vikings Entertainment Network back in beautiful Denver.
00:20:31That's Kevin O'Connell on the sideline, mic'd up.
00:20:34The Dante Fleming 26-yard catch stands.
00:20:38That's the Vikings receiving long this game.
00:20:41In fact, it's their offensive long play.
00:20:44Max Prosper 12 of 19, 106 yards.
00:20:47And his first down from the Vikings 49.
00:20:52So we're going to go back to that.
00:20:57Do you know what it is?
00:21:00All right.
00:21:01So we're going to try a little gap scheme play here, Ben Lieber.
00:21:03See if we can pull and block the linebacker.
00:21:05Throw the bubble versus nickel pressure.
00:21:07Oh, no.
00:21:10Another flag.
00:21:11That was definitely not O.P.I.
00:21:13Oh, my goodness.
00:21:14Really?
00:21:15On Terrell Davis?
00:21:16What did he do?
00:21:17Wow.
00:21:20Penalty mark on the play.
00:21:26Hey.
00:21:28Office number 40.
00:21:30That got thrown immediately.
00:21:32The ball got thrown as he caught it.
00:21:35Just before he can make that block.
00:21:37It's not what he's throwing.
00:21:38It's easy.
00:21:39Do you understand how ticky-tack that is?
00:21:42This one was easy.
00:21:44You're saying it's easy.
00:21:45But do you, like, I know these are preseason reps for you, too.
00:21:49Yep.
00:21:49But there's some things that I'm like, so we're going to let him slot pressure and we can't
00:21:54throw bubbles.
00:21:55Got it.
00:21:58That was field judge Aaron Sante.
00:22:01I actually really like Aaron, too.
00:22:03That's an unbelievable job by Max standing in there.
00:22:05Why are we losing that fast?
00:22:08Hold on a second.
00:22:11We got a guy down.
00:22:13Where?
00:22:14Oh.
00:22:15Terrell Davis.
00:22:1740.
00:22:19Hey, with, um, we'll let you walk out there and tend to your player.
00:22:25Go ahead.
00:22:26With 89, Dylan Bell, like, I've run this by two people, and maybe it's so uninteresting
00:22:31I can't get anybody to bite into it, and now we're going to break.
00:22:35So, make it three people, including the producer.
00:22:38We'll run it by Kevin O'Connell shortly.
00:22:4120 to 6, Broncos on the Vikings Entertainment.
00:22:45Vikings Entertainment Network, Denver, 846 to go, quarter three.
00:22:4920 to 6, Broncos.
00:22:51Dylan Bell.
00:22:52Yep.
00:22:53All right.
00:22:53Now, undrafted Georgia.
00:22:54Had a couple of nice runs in the Giants game.
00:22:56Targeted him nine times last game in preseason.
00:23:00He's big and he's physical.
00:23:02Now, I'm not saying he's the next Jawan Jennings, but, I mean, if I'm Dylan Bell, I watch 14 in
00:23:08practice and I'm like, I want to be him.
00:23:11Know what I mean?
00:23:12I do.
00:23:12And that's, you know, honestly, we're always looking for different body types, you know,
00:23:17that can fill the role.
00:23:19Because when Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, you know, they're going to be Minnesota Vikings,
00:23:25hopefully, for a long time.
00:23:26And we need the, we need that other player, as you guys know, that dirty, that dirty job.
00:23:31Let's see if we can hit a big old dagger here, maybe.
00:23:33Dagger.
00:23:35Go.
00:23:36They got a bunch of depth.
00:23:37Now we can go fast.
00:23:39Yeah.
00:23:41Sorry.
00:23:42Well, here's what we're doing here.
00:23:43We're going to go fast and try to mitigate the pass rush.
00:23:46Yeah.
00:23:46We're going to have a little chip by the wild on the right side to help the right tackle.
00:23:51But Flemm right here, we're trying to get them in a panic call.
00:23:53You see the coverage.
00:23:54So Flemm right here will run what we call a stem go.
00:23:58If we end up getting the backside tricks by this safety, which we didn't.
00:24:02So now we're going to have to throw probably the tight end.
00:24:04Oh, the ball got hit.
00:24:06He just.
00:24:07Ball tipped.
00:24:08We got to punt the ball.
00:24:09Punt it, punt it, punt it.
00:24:12All right.
00:24:12But, but Flemming was on the other side of the field.
00:24:16Yeah.
00:24:16So, you know what I mean?
00:24:17But, like, we don't know what coverage they're going to play.
00:24:20A lot of the night they've been buying the backside safety to kind of shove the coverage to the front
00:24:26side of the field,
00:24:27leaving a one-on-one backside.
00:24:28They disguise it a little bit so it's not, it doesn't jump out at the quarterback pre-snap a lot
00:24:33of the time.
00:24:34But right there they just played a true half on the backside,
00:24:37which kind of eliminated our chance to work the one-on-one to Flemm,
00:24:41which I would have loved to see because I think he's playing fast tonight.
00:24:44Yeah.
00:24:44He's had a couple nice catching runs.
00:24:47That's a good punt right there.
00:24:48Here comes Jacoby Thomas.
00:24:50Oh, he's going to field it at the five.
00:24:52Get him, Jacoby.
00:24:53He stepped out at the 14.
00:24:55Yep.
00:24:5844-yard punt.
00:24:59Another one inside the 20 by Forsen.
00:25:02Ray Guy award winner last year.
00:25:04He has four or five during the preseason.
00:25:07Hey, Jacoby Thomas was your personal protector there.
00:25:10Yep.
00:25:10I'm not saying it's going to be like that in the regular season, but you don't generally see safeties doing
00:25:14that, right?
00:25:16Well, a lot of times in the regular season you'll see Ivan Pace do that.
00:25:19What you want is you want a physical player because you never know, you know, schematically who that guy's going
00:25:24to have to block.
00:25:26And then you also want a guy who can get out there and make plays down the field.
00:25:30They've got to have the speed to cover ground and then you've got to come to balance and make a
00:25:33tackle.
00:25:33So you really need a pretty unique body type in that personal protector role.
00:25:37All right, first and 10, Broncos from their own 15, KO on the mic, handoff.
00:25:44Chaz Chambliss, the other 40 with the first hit, dragged him down.
00:25:49Hey, it's second down.
00:25:51Kyler Murray.
00:25:53Kyler Murray, your starter when you play Green Bay a couple of weeks from Sunday.
00:25:58How much refinement was required when you got him and what has impressed you with how he's fit in?
00:26:06Well, I would say this, P.A., like when you really study him and watch him over the years in
00:26:11Arizona,
00:26:11there was just a lot of times where he was asked, you know, to do a lot to move the
00:26:15football.
00:26:16Whether it was plays off schedule, extending plays, you know, we really, really, you know,
00:26:21have talked a lot about, you know, just the simplicity of throwing completions because he's really accurate.
00:26:26And he should be, he's career-wise a very high completion type of thrower.
00:26:30And, you know, we just feel really good about him peppering completions, putting the ball in play,
00:26:35and then allowing the game to come to him a little bit.
00:26:38Pairing that with the way we hope to run the football when we get our ones out there.
00:26:42I'm pretty excited about it.
00:26:44But Kyler's really smart.
00:26:46You know, he's really taken to the, he's really taken to the, you know,
00:26:51just the mindset of rhythm, timing, and allowing the playmakers around him
00:26:55to put the ball in their hands, and let's move to football.
00:26:59All right, third and short.
00:27:01Looks like inside linebackers coach Mike Sarabo
00:27:04is calling the defense, at least for now.
00:27:09And some misdirection and a first down for the Denver Broncos.
00:27:14You know what, I don't, I don't think,
00:27:17I think it might be Thad Bogardis right now.
00:27:19Who?
00:27:21Thad Bogardis.
00:27:22Oh, yeah.
00:27:23Yeah, that's the linebacker thing.
00:27:24I couldn't hear you because of the crowd noise.
00:27:25Sorry about that.
00:27:26Look at you giving Thad some run.
00:27:28Yeah, that's really cool that you do that, man.
00:27:30I mean, Wes called the whole Ravens game.
00:27:32He's called the whole Wes Phillips offensive coordinator tonight's game.
00:27:36Inside linebackers coach Mike Sarabo,
00:27:38defensive line coach Ryan Nielsen and others.
00:27:41That's really great that you do that.
00:27:44Did somebody do that for you at any part of your career?
00:27:48Yeah, I got a chance to do it in Washington and L.A.
00:27:51and, you know, it was just, you can't ever replicate, you know,
00:27:57no matter how many times you let guys do it in practice,
00:28:00being, you know, being at an NFL game with that play clock rolling,
00:28:04substitutions happening.
00:28:04And it's just great work for all those guys.
00:28:08And I love Flo.
00:28:09You know, Flo loves to really empower a lot of the guys on the staff to take their turns
00:28:14because I think it gives them perspective to do their jobs better,
00:28:17be that much cleaner with the substitutions,
00:28:19communication on game day because they've felt what it's like to be running the show.
00:28:25Second and five, Ellinger, good rush, Josh Ross, Schrader, first down, Richter.
00:28:39Man, missed opportunity there.
00:28:42But, Coach, I wanted to just kind of have you elaborate a little bit more on that.
00:28:44We talk about some of the assistants getting elevated to be play callers in game.
00:28:49Are there other guys on the staff that take on other roles that you want to empower as well in
00:28:54these situations?
00:28:56You know, Ben, thank you, Tyler.
00:28:59There'll be some times where you might let guys maybe take the position group at halftime,
00:29:06some of the assistant position coaches that we have, good young coaches.
00:29:11But, yeah, it's whether it's the lead-up to the game, Ben,
00:29:14where those guys are really, you know, as we prepare our starters for the season,
00:29:18and there's a good pick start right there.
00:29:20Oh, yeah.
00:29:23Incomplete.
00:29:25Smith-Bilbert.
00:29:27Smith-Bilbert.
00:29:28One of the first guys that you guys signed after the draft in a college free agency, right?
00:29:35That's right.
00:29:36That's right.
00:29:36And he's, once we got him back on the field, he's been doing some good things.
00:29:40Well, there's Dad Bogardas, indeed, outside linebackers, Coach.
00:29:44Wives are on this trip.
00:29:45His wife is here.
00:29:46I met her this morning.
00:29:47I mean, she's just got to be tickled that her husband's calling the defense.
00:29:51That's so sweet.
00:29:52That's right.
00:29:53That's right.
00:29:54Well, he coaches Dallas Turner, Van Ginkle, and that group.
00:29:57That's nice.
00:29:58Yeah, I've been, you know, the way Dallas has come on, I think,
00:30:01I hope Vikings fans understand just how it's too much.
00:30:06Well, this McLaughlin's fast, though.
00:30:08He really, he's, I mean, he's been one of their really featured backs kind of over the last few years.
00:30:13He's got a lot of change of pace to him where he's really good.
00:30:17But I've seen him do some different things getting downhill tonight.
00:30:19That's been pretty impressive as well.
00:30:22Yeah, Coach, I mean, the sneaky thing about having position coaches be coordinators,
00:30:28they got to know the front end, the back end, the linebacker, you got to know all the positions.
00:30:32So it's really a big step in developing younger coaches.
00:30:36That's exactly right.
00:30:37It forces you to really think differently than just your, you know, just worrying about the same old,
00:30:43just my guys on game day.
00:30:44Because what both Flo and I talk about a lot is how do we create a staff where everybody sees
00:30:49it through the same lens.
00:30:51And that's not to say that, you know, somebody without the experience Phil has is going to see it.
00:30:56But maybe it's going to be throughout the week as guys study the tape and we start putting together game
00:31:01plans,
00:31:01just trying to sharpen everybody and use these preseason games as great opportunities to do so.
00:31:08All right.
00:31:08So it's first down for Denver from the Vikings 34.
00:31:12Broncos lead 20 to 6.
00:31:14KO miked up on the sideline.
00:31:15Three minutes to go on the third.
00:31:17There we go.
00:31:17Well, they snipped that one out, didn't they?
00:31:20Well, that's sweet.
00:31:21Yeah, that was a really good.
00:31:23So, you know, we move a lot along the front for what, you know, obviously fans at home might say,
00:31:28of course they should be moving.
00:31:29They're playing football.
00:31:30What I mean by moving is, you know, the lateral movement left and right,
00:31:34where they may be lined up in a gap and then they're going to maybe hit a different gap on
00:31:38the snap.
00:31:40That allows our D lineman, especially a guy like Jalen Redman, you've seen it over the last couple years,
00:31:45be able to be more.
00:31:46You'll see him unblock sometimes at the point of attack.
00:31:48He's just beating the offensive lineman to the spot.
00:31:52If they go play action, let's see if Chance Chambliss sacked.
00:31:57Yeah, they're going to hand this ball off.
00:31:59They are.
00:32:00Yep.
00:32:01Boom!
00:32:02That's Ritzy twice now.
00:32:04Look at Ritzy.
00:32:06He's had a number of good plays today.
00:32:07Yeah, this will be an interesting play call right here by Davis over there.
00:32:11Just, you know, they've got a 14-point lead, two minutes to go in the third quarter.
00:32:17How aggressive do you want to be?
00:32:19You know, we're playing a little bit more safe tonight.
00:32:22You're not seeing as much.
00:32:23This would be a normal opportunity to send it, you know, send as many as we can at the quarterback.
00:32:28But we're playing a little bit safer tonight.
00:32:30Just, you know, trying to evaluate these guys.
00:32:32So let's see if we can get a pass rush here.
00:32:34See if we can get home.
00:32:36They've been screening us a lot tonight on this D&D.
00:32:39And there's a high snap.
00:32:40Nice check down.
00:32:42Let's see if we got penalty.
00:32:43Penalty.
00:32:44I think somebody held Jacoby Thomas.
00:32:46Oh, no.
00:32:47That's a killer.
00:32:48Really?
00:32:49Holding on us?
00:32:50No, it's illegal hands.
00:32:51Illegal use of hands.
00:32:52Hands in the face.
00:32:53Defensive with 52.
00:32:55Five-yard penalty.
00:32:56Automatic first down.
00:32:57Jeez.
00:32:58Come on.
00:32:58Can you guys confirm whether that was a real thing or not?
00:33:02Yeah.
00:33:02We're waiting for the replay.
00:33:05Yeah.
00:33:05We're not as fast as the ruler of the reversal, Ryan Cordell.
00:33:10Hey, you don't see that call against linebackers too often.
00:33:12They usually don't play inside.
00:33:14All right.
00:33:15Here's the replay, Ben Pete.
00:33:18Yeah, it was inadvertent left-hand of the face mask.
00:33:20Yep.
00:33:21He didn't pull it, but he got it.
00:33:23Yep.
00:33:24No, we can't do that.
00:33:25Not on a third and long like that.
00:33:27Men didn't have to go in the third quarter.
00:33:28It's just things like that that, you know, we stacked two good plays, got them in a third
00:33:33and long.
00:33:35Toss left.
00:33:39Hey, Coach, can I ask you like a deeper philosophical question?
00:33:43We hear this whole thing about teams being led by players, locker rooms being led by players.
00:33:49Obviously, you're the coach.
00:33:51You're the CEO.
00:33:51You have to have a, you know, kind of your finger on the pulse of the team.
00:33:55Like, where do you strike that balance between when you step in versus your players stepping
00:34:00in?
00:34:00No.
00:34:01I mean, it's always my job to set the direction.
00:34:05And we talk a lot about what it's going to take to win games each and every week during
00:34:09the regular season.
00:34:09And it's more about the culture of your building, Ben.
00:34:13It's more about guys understanding how do we create an environment, you know, where guys
00:34:18can become the best versions of themselves.
00:34:20The first way to do that is create a sense of belonging.
00:34:23And I don't know about you guys, but, you know, when you feel ownership as a player, you
00:34:28are going to, you know, it's going to matter a little bit more to you.
00:34:31And that's where the culture of doing things for the man next to you and kind of that selfless
00:34:36culture, even at our level, can be a winning edge.
00:34:39And in the end, I mean, we're still, you know, myself and Flo and Hat and my coaching staff,
00:34:47we're setting the course and the direction.
00:34:49But it's only going to go as far as these players will go.
00:34:52So, we've got great leadership and got to go make a play here.
00:34:59All right.
00:35:00Well, sadly, we have to say goodbye.
00:35:03Oh, man, we were just getting started.
00:35:04Well, it's the best ever.
00:35:06Now, Sunday's coming up.
00:35:08Cuts to 53 practice squad.
00:35:09I know that's difficult for you.
00:35:11So, best of luck with that, man.
00:35:13Have a good weekend.
00:35:14And we'll see you on the plane, okay?
00:35:15Yeah, appreciate you guys for having me on, man.
00:35:17Thank you, buddy.
00:35:18Kevin O'Connell, head coach for the Minnesota Vikings.
00:35:21That is unprecedented access.
00:35:24That is second to none.
00:35:25This is Vikings football.
00:35:32Hey, welcome back to Denver, Colorado,
00:35:36courtesy of the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:35:39Vikings mascot.
00:35:40Just having a wonderful time with this 26 Denver lead.
00:35:44Vikings Packers two weeks from Sunday for the regular season opener.
00:35:50And as the evening winds to a conclusion,
00:35:57so does the Vikings 2026 preseason.
00:36:01As we head into the fourth quarter.
00:36:03Toss right.
00:36:04Jaleel McLaughlin.
00:36:06Vikings running back Aaron Jones should be joining us shortly from the sideline.
00:36:14And second and eight for the Denver Broncos.
00:36:17Aaron.
00:36:18Hello, hello, hello.
00:36:20Hey, Showtime.
00:36:21What's going on, Aaron?
00:36:22How you doing?
00:36:23How you doing?
00:36:23Well, you look good with those white glasses.
00:36:25I appreciate it.
00:36:26It's bright in here.
00:36:29I took them off for a little bit.
00:36:30I'm like, man.
00:36:31No, let's get some big plays with Showtime on the mic, okay?
00:36:35Yes, sir.
00:36:36Oh, Ellinger, sneaky.
00:36:39Almost dropped it.
00:36:40All right, so it's going to be third down.
00:36:43I didn't know your vertical was 42 inches.
00:36:46And the reason I know that is because when Chaz Chambliss made that play in the first quarter
00:36:51or the first half, number 40, I mean, you went crazy when the edge guy got a chance to get
00:36:57a first down.
00:36:58Oh, 100%.
00:36:58He's a guy that I see every morning.
00:37:00He's there early, lifting weights so he can make it to both meetings, not miss a beat.
00:37:06And it's just a testament to his hard work.
00:37:08And then he got up, loved the celebration, caught him, rocked the baby.
00:37:13On to the first down.
00:37:16All right, well, let's rock this baby.
00:37:18And they did.
00:37:19Third and short, fourth and short for the Broncos.
00:37:22Hey, Aaron, let's get right into it.
00:37:23Let's talk about the starting fullback.
00:37:26This Bredesen kid, throwback guy, it seems like the second he stepped in the TCO PC, everybody's loved him.
00:37:32One of the new favorite young players.
00:37:33What do you like about this young guy that's going to be leading a lot of blocks for you?
00:37:37I love how tough he is.
00:37:38And after every play, there's communication.
00:37:41He's coming back.
00:37:42Hey, how was that block?
00:37:43Did you like it?
00:37:44What could I have done better?
00:37:46Did I clear enough room?
00:37:48Was I in the way?
00:37:49So those little things, that's something me and CJ had gained a rapport with, just communicating.
00:37:57I'm seeing, they're seeing what I'm seeing, but a lot of times they're seeing it before.
00:38:32So, hey, hey, is there anything I could have done better?
00:38:34Do you think I could have jumped cut around the guard, or do you think I should have played
00:38:38it backside to get to that block?
00:38:40So, it's a lot of communication and just, he's tough.
00:38:43He came in day one and showed us that he can do, he can do this at a very high
00:38:48level.
00:38:49Aaron Jones, 10th year from UTEP.
00:38:52He's mic'd up.
00:38:53Bill Rutz at the extra point.
00:38:5513-04 to go in the preseason.
00:38:57Bronx 27-6 on the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:39:03Back to Colorado, final preseason game, Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:39:07Home team leads 27-6.
00:39:09Aaron Jones mic'd up on the sideline.
00:39:12Aaron Jones, you can see on Fox 9, is part of a back-to-school event with the Aaron Jones
00:39:18Foundation.
00:39:19Giving back is very important to you.
00:39:22And, man, recently you gave back a lot, Aaron.
00:39:26Aaron Jones, yes, sir, we were able to give away about 500 pairs of shoes for kids going
00:39:32back to school this year, around with socks and other things to get them started the year
00:39:36for us to right away.
00:39:39Boom.
00:39:41Rudolph retreats.
00:39:42Fair catch.
00:39:43All right, so the Vikings offense comes out on the field now, Pete.
00:39:49Aaron, Pete.
00:39:50It's Pete versus Jerry.
00:39:51He, you know, how is DeMond Claiborne doing?
00:39:54And I ask that kind of in a holistic kind of way because your name was brought up by Kevin
00:39:59O'Connell later on when he said he felt great about bringing DeMond into a running back room
00:40:05with guys like you and Jordan Mason.
00:40:08How has the young man been adapting to life in the NFL?
00:40:12He's been adapting great.
00:40:14He's been picking it up pretty quickly.
00:40:17He's been catching on seamlessly and just, he's just laying on his moment, you know.
00:40:22We believe he can do some great things in this league and just got to continue to work every day,
00:40:30continue to build upon what we're, what he's already built on and continue to stay in the playbook
00:40:35and that way we can go out and play a little bit faster.
00:40:39It eliminates any thinking.
00:40:41When you get out there and you're just reacting to what you see or you see what they're lined up
00:40:47in pre-snap
00:40:48and you kind of can't predict what you're going to get or you know what's coming, you're ready for it.
00:40:54You can react to it differently.
00:40:57Second and six after the Jefferson run.
00:41:01One of four J.J.'s we have on the team.
00:41:07Rosemar.
00:41:10Jefferson.
00:41:11Yeah, March.
00:41:12Here we go.
00:41:12Yeah, March.
00:41:15Yes, sir!
00:41:20Yeah, March!
00:41:21But Jamar's a little slow to get up.
00:41:23A little slow to get up.
00:41:24This might be tired.
00:41:25Aaron, what were you calling him?
00:41:27What's his nickname?
00:41:27What's Jamar's nickname?
00:41:29Munchie.
00:41:30Munchie.
00:41:30He was, uh, he said when he was a kid, he used to like to eat.
00:41:36He was a lot bigger.
00:41:37Definitely not the shape of a running back.
00:41:40So he said that was his nickname when he came in and coach was like, yep, that's what we're calling
00:41:45him.
00:41:47Well, I would even say I actually called one of his games at Oregon State and even in college he
00:41:52was much bigger.
00:41:53He was a little thicker, kind of a more of a straight-ahead, vertical type of runner.
00:41:57He's like not even the same guy he was just a few years ago.
00:42:02He looks good.
00:42:03You know, when you're in the league and once you're here for a couple years, your body continues to develop
00:42:11as you continue to age and you start to, I guess, say, come into your grown man body.
00:42:16Brozner, yes, no!
00:42:20Oh!
00:42:22Max nearly had a touchdown.
00:42:24Marcus Sanders Jr., Georgia Southern, undrafted rookie.
00:42:30With going to be second attempt.
00:42:33Aaron, in that Giants preseason game, first drive, first offensive line, you, Kyler, whole thing.
00:42:41Except for Justin, you guys ran for 44 yards on those 10 plays and it looked good.
00:42:47This running game, man, when the regular season starts, it's going to look different, isn't it?
00:42:53Yes, sir, it is.
00:42:54You know, those guys up front really coming off the ball, setting a tone and, you know, we always tell
00:43:00them we go as they go.
00:43:01And even on them finishing, just the way they're finishing downfield and everybody, it's all in line.
00:43:06But once you, once we were able to get all, get in the room together and really figure out how
00:43:12we're all in tune together on the play in each and every play
00:43:16and where the power of the play is, where we're trying to get to not just, oh, let's run in
00:43:23this direction.
00:43:23No, this is why we're starting in this direction.
00:43:26Get the defense flowing and then try to cut it back.
00:43:29How big is it to get Christian Derrissaw back?
00:43:31Yeah.
00:43:32It's huge to get him back.
00:43:33You know, he's a true leader on the offensive line.
00:43:37He brings that nasty dog mentality up front and he's an all pro.
00:43:42I mean, I just, a highlight that sticks out in my head is that Detroit Lions clip.
00:43:47You don't see too many guys, his size, his position moving the way he does.
00:43:52So it's not just in the run game, it's in the pass game too.
00:43:55He's super smart, communicates well.
00:43:59One thing, hear me keep saying, communication, that's the number one thing in football.
00:44:04You can never over-communicate.
00:44:08All right.
00:44:09So now it is first and goal from the 10.
00:44:12Great catch, Briscoe.
00:44:13Yeah, Michael Briscoe changes his number, makes the catch of the preseason.
00:44:18Six so good on him.
00:44:20Brozmer under center, seventh rounder, Gavin Gerhardt, the center.
00:44:28Broz left, Davis, nice catch.
00:44:32Good to see Terrell Davis back.
00:44:34The Vikings have entered the 3M red zone.
00:44:373M, science applied to life.
00:44:39Ben?
00:44:40Yeah, Aaron, what's the buildup for you mentally and emotionally if you guys are basically two weeks away from the
00:44:48regular season?
00:44:48Like, what sort of things take place in your own mindset to get ready for that first game?
00:44:53I kind of use these games to tune it up.
00:44:56You know, just get in that mode, get my mindset right.
00:45:00Having the preseason game week one kind of helped as well, you know.
00:45:04I'm like, it's just a lot of gratitude for being out here, being able to step foot on the field
00:45:09and just knowing that, hey, I'm going to have to be.
00:45:15You have to be actually, uh, shot mentally at all times when you step on this field.
00:45:19So, um, just get, and now being on the sideline, just getting this here from a different perspective as well,
00:45:25uh, it gives you a lot of gratitude.
00:45:28Yeah, you might, you might have a little competition in the backfield with Kyler Murray.
00:45:32You can run a little bit himself.
00:45:34What's it been like working with him?
00:45:37You're familiar with him from his years in Arizona, but then he finally shows up.
00:45:41You get a chance to get to know him.
00:45:42What can you tell us about Kyler Murray?
00:45:44Uh, Kyler, Kyler's definitely a fun guy to be around.
00:45:47He brings a lot of energy.
00:45:49Uh, definitely a joy to be around.
00:45:51He's a funny guy as well.
00:45:53Um, but when it's time to go to work, he's ready to work.
00:45:56Uh, he's coaching up the guys.
00:45:58He's coaching us all up.
00:45:59Uh, you know, we're all getting, uh, adapted to each other.
00:46:03So, uh, it's been fun in that process and seeing what he, seeing what he can do and, uh, how
00:46:09he can do it with his feet as well.
00:46:10Hey, um, there are people watching and listening now, Aaron, where they're like,
00:46:15all right, it's the third preseason game, uh, Packers in two weeks, um, and, and, but the Vikings haven't scored
00:46:23a touchdown since the Giants game.
00:46:25So, like, from a player's standpoint, how important is it to get a touchdown, say, on this play?
00:46:31Uh, it's very important.
00:46:32Anytime you're in the red zone, you gotta get in the red zone.
00:46:35You can't leave points on the board.
00:46:37Uh, you need this one.
00:46:47Here we go, D.
00:46:50The Broncos lead 27 to 6.
00:46:53Aaron Jones mic'd up on the sideline.
00:46:56947 to go in the preseason.
00:46:58Back shortly.
00:46:59This is Minnesota Vikings football.
00:47:03All right, back on the Vikings entertainment network, 27 to 6, Denver, and the Broncos have the ball, Ben.
00:47:11Aaron, I mean, I, I can't help but just put a smile on my face when I hear this song.
00:47:15It feels like a very collegiate atmosphere here in Denver.
00:47:19The college season started.
00:47:21We're in week zero.
00:47:22It just kind of takes you back.
00:47:24Like, do you have any fond memories of UTEP and just college football and just kind of playing football in
00:47:30your youth?
00:47:31First off, go Miners, picks up.
00:47:33Uh, gotta show some love to my guys.
00:47:36Uh, hope they have a great year.
00:47:38Um, my, probably my best memory at UTEP, I would, I would, I would say just my whole journey.
00:47:44Uh, the whole time there is, to me, it's about the journey.
00:47:47Uh, the, the guys I came across are not just guys anymore, they're my lifetime brothers.
00:47:54Um, and also just being able to play at that level with my twin brother.
00:47:59Uh, it was always our dream, always our goal to play together in college at the next, and hopefully at
00:48:05the next level.
00:48:06Um, and we were, we were able to achieve that.
00:48:08So, uh, that, that was the biggest thing for me.
00:48:10All right.
00:48:11Um, we're going to get a camera on it momentarily.
00:48:15Safety Joshua Metellus is calling the defense on this series.
00:48:19Oh, where's he at?
00:48:20Let me go.
00:48:21Second to 13.
00:48:22Oh, hit him.
00:48:23Oh, Schrader 10 stopped.
00:48:27What's, uh, what's 44 up his sleeve, Aaron?
00:48:31Look at Josh.
00:48:32Hold on, let me, let me stay back while I call it.
00:48:34He's even covered.
00:48:35Can't get the plays.
00:48:36He's even covering his mouth.
00:48:39That's, uh, yeah, that man looks comfortable.
00:48:41The, the, the world knows you're, uh, calling the game.
00:48:45Back up, back up, back up.
00:48:46Look at that smile.
00:48:47That's so great, Aaron.
00:48:49Look at Dahlman saying, can I call a play?
00:48:51Dial it up, dial it up.
00:48:54Oh, Dahlman, um, Gibson, the, uh, backup inside linebackers coach,
00:48:59or assistant, uh, inside linebackers, works with Mike Sarabo, third and five.
00:49:05Watch the wide, watch the wide, coach.
00:49:06You're so impressed.
00:49:08Backed out.
00:49:08Oh, no.
00:49:09Oh, no, Mattel is calling the defense, and we had a busted coverage.
00:49:16And that is going to be an 88-yard touchdown by rookie tight end Justin Jolly,
00:49:27fifth rounder from Arkansas State.
00:49:29All these Broncos fans are all jolly.
00:49:31All the way out of that call all game because of the personnel.
00:49:34Was that, was that 4-4 who called that?
00:49:37Yeah.
00:49:38T.A. went, oh, shit.
00:49:40Oh, no, Josh.
00:49:45Yeah, you were, you were showing a blitz and ended up in a three-deep coverage.
00:49:49You just lost the safety in the middle of the field.
00:49:51So, don't, never expect the quarterback to have that much time.
00:49:55And, Ben, if you're not blitzing, you still, that four-man rush still has to find a way
00:49:59to get there.
00:50:00Yeah, it's kind of been the whole thing all game long.
00:50:03We got a bunch of guys in the back end with their eyes in the backfield too much,
00:50:05probably watching what's going on with the quarterback and just losing track at the tight end,
00:50:09who's wide open right on the Broncos logo.
00:50:13Extra point.
00:50:14Will Lutz nails it.
00:50:188-0-8 to go in the preseason.
00:50:2034-6 Denver leads Minnesota.
00:50:24There's old jolly on the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:50:30Thanks to the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:50:32We're back.
00:50:338-0-8 to go in the preseason.
00:50:3534-6 Denver.
00:50:37Aaron, what, what do you think Justin's doing with his hair up to the season?
00:50:41I mean, it's, I mean, it's long right now.
00:50:44Holy cow.
00:50:45It's definitely long.
00:50:46I think, I think he'll get it done by time season comes.
00:50:49You know, we're in that camp mode.
00:50:52Not so much worry about upkeep.
00:50:54Got a long day.
00:50:55So, I think after this set him down and right before the season, he'll go GQ mode on us.
00:51:00Boom.
00:51:02All right, touch back.
00:51:03Hey, you're running May Jordan Mason.
00:51:06He, he, he cut some weight.
00:51:08He kind of redefined his body a little bit.
00:51:10Getting outside the hash marks may be better than he ever has.
00:51:14What, John, what excites you about Jordan?
00:51:17Just like you said, the hard work that he committed to and stay committed to it in is really showing,
00:51:23like you said, in his body and then in his movement as well.
00:51:27Yeah, it looks like he has an extra burst.
00:51:30Well, not looks.
00:51:30He does.
00:51:31He has an extra burst.
00:51:33It looks like he has another gear to him.
00:51:35So, I'm excited.
00:51:36I think he's going to have a big year as well.
00:51:38You know, Aaron, you guys go against what we think is the best defensive coordinator in the game,
00:51:44and we're hoping a top five defense.
00:51:47How, how much does that prepare you guys for the regular season every single day going against B-Flow in
00:51:53that defense?
00:51:55It gets us ready.
00:51:56You know, B-Flow is such a master of calling defenses.
00:52:01By the time we get to the game, there's pretty much no look that we haven't seen.
00:52:06We've seen every blitz combination that there is to come.
00:52:10Whether they're going base, nickel, don, big nickel, any of those sub-formations where they're running people on
00:52:20and changing people off, and you're having the O-line, the center quarterback,
00:52:24are having to ID these guys different every time.
00:52:27It's not an easy thing to do, and we get great practice at it each and every day.
00:52:33So, Brosmer threw it a little hot and high to Davis.
00:52:37So, it's 36.
00:52:38Aaron Jones miked up on the sideline.
00:52:40Xavier Scott's in the game now.
00:52:42He caught a touchdown from Wentz at Dublin last year.
00:52:46First full year for Maine, I believe, or second.
00:52:49Converted wide receiver.
00:52:51But, I mean, one of the sweetest, kindest humans you'll ever meet, Xavier Scott, right?
00:52:56Oh, a thousand percent.
00:52:58He's the best.
00:52:58He's the best guy.
00:52:59You know, pure heart.
00:53:01He wants to help everybody and anybody.
00:53:05Sorry, I was listening to the play.
00:53:07He wants to help everybody.
00:53:09Like you said, just a great guy.
00:53:12A true, a true natural-born leader as well.
00:53:15Flag.
00:53:16Did he get held up?
00:53:19He did.
00:53:23Aaron, can you take a couple steps left or right?
00:53:26The fourth down bits blocking it.
00:53:29Yeah, and it's great for the ratings if they can see you in those white glasses.
00:53:33There we go.
00:53:35That's a nice pose right there, man.
00:53:37Oh, your mom's the best, too, man.
00:53:39I got to meet her last year, pray with her for four games.
00:53:42What a wonderful lady.
00:53:43I appreciate it.
00:53:44Thank you for taking the time to pray with her.
00:53:46And pray for me as well.
00:53:48Yes, sir.
00:53:49Cats is this punt returner.
00:53:52He's got sneaky speed.
00:53:54Better be careful.
00:53:55There ain't no swag.
00:54:03He better because that great guy award winner is good.
00:54:06Cats is.
00:54:08Go.
00:54:11There we go.
00:54:12All right.
00:54:12We're going to pause.
00:54:13We have Aaron Jones until the two-minute warning, and it rocks.
00:54:1734-6 Denver on the Vikings Entertainment Network.
00:54:31Welcome back to Empower Field at Mile High, courtesy of the second-to-none, VEN.
00:54:387-12 to go in the game, and 7-12 to go in the preseason, 34-6 Denver, and the
00:54:46Broncos have
00:54:47the ball, Mr. Nacho Lieber.
00:54:49Aaron, you know who I think is the MVP of this game so far?
00:54:53Xavier Scott's hair.
00:54:55Holy cow with that flow.
00:54:57It's the stadium DJ.
00:54:59I've caught you several times now in commercial breaks, dancing a little bit, feeling the music.
00:55:04Oh, yeah, they're rocking out over here, they're jamming, and they got a great sound system.
00:55:10I'm like, man, what do we got to do to get this sound system over here?
00:55:13I think they're pumping in a little crowd noise, but, you know, we got the natural crowd noise
00:55:18in the bank.
00:55:20Yeah, it's nice that you're keeping it loose on the sideline.
00:55:24Oh, yeah, so you got to try to during the season, too, just make it fun.
00:55:29You know, this is something we've always dreamed about, and yes, yes, it's work, but why not
00:55:34make it fun, and if it's something that we've dreamed about.
00:55:36Mattel is still calling the defense, Pete.
00:55:40Yeah, Aaron, tight ends are so important, especially if we're talking about a wide zone type of a run.
00:55:46We got T.J. Hockinson, Josh Oliver.
00:55:48What do you expect out of those two guys this year?
00:55:50I think we have the best blocking tight end in the league, and Josh Oliver and T.J.
00:55:56holds his own as well, right up there with the best, like, arguably could go as one of
00:56:01the best blockers as well.
00:56:02I don't think he gets enough credit in the blocking game.
00:56:07Neither does Josh.
00:56:08Like I said, Josh, to me, is the best blocking tight end in the league.
00:56:11But then their weapons in the pass game as well, and just their catch radius, the way T.J.
00:56:17can sauce up a guy, you leave him one-on-one with a linebacker, that's not a great matchup
00:56:22that you're likely going to lose.
00:56:24So they're so dynamic in what they bring to our offense.
00:56:32Incomplete.
00:56:32And then also just being able to switch up the personnel, you know, being able to go 12,
00:56:36being able to go 21, and use those guys in different ways.
00:56:40Hey, Aaron, your pass protection in your decade-plus has been so well-respected around the league.
00:56:47Green Bay are here.
00:56:49DeMond Claiborne, okay, he's a 4-3 guy, you know, but pass protection just doesn't come
00:56:55easily.
00:56:55Do you help him with it?
00:56:57Yes, sir, definitely.
00:56:59The biggest thing is understanding it, you know, seeing what the defense is giving you,
00:57:04the tells that they're giving you, which way they're bringing, which way the safeties
00:57:07are rotating, and what are your keys?
00:57:11And as long as you're on your keys, it'll take you right to where you're supposed to be
00:57:16as long as your eyes are in the right place.
00:57:18And then at that point, it's about executing the block.
00:57:22It's a fight.
00:57:23Get up there.
00:57:24It's your turn.
00:57:25It's your chance to hit them instead of you getting hit, you know.
00:57:30And then you hit them first.
00:57:32You get up there, you hit them first.
00:57:33That negates a lot of the charge.
00:57:35And then after that, it's just a hand fight and hold them off.
00:57:39You know, the quarterback's not holding it for 10 seconds back there.
00:57:43So it's something I definitely take pride in, though, trying to keep the quarterback clean.
00:57:49You know, no rep is going to be textbook perfect, but as long as you get the job done
00:57:54and keep your quarterback clean, you're good.
00:57:56Showtime.
00:57:57What's the play here?
00:57:59Ooh, I didn't get the play.
00:58:00Oh, you didn't hear?
00:58:01Okay.
00:58:02Next play, tell us what it is.
00:58:03O'Connell does it all the time.
00:58:05Okay.
00:58:05So we can see how it works out.
00:58:08Hand off up the middle between the hash marks.
00:58:11Gained him about three yards.
00:58:13Second to seven.
00:58:14Aaron Jones mic'd up on the sideline.
00:58:16Well, we got to let him get the call here.
00:58:18Yep, let's get the call.
00:58:19I'm not going to ask him a question.
00:58:20He's got to get the call.
00:58:27We got a two-play call here, so depending on the look, it's mid-zone to a mid-zone.
00:58:34What's that mean?
00:58:36We're not going to the tight end.
00:58:38We're going to the tackle.
00:58:39More so our aim point is not supposed to get outside, but it did.
00:58:46The reason it got outside, though, is because the three technique got reached.
00:58:52Ah, that's good insight.
00:58:54Hey, Aaron, I want to ask you.
00:58:55I asked KO when he was on with us in the third quarter about the coaches leading at certain times,
00:59:01setting the culture, then players leading in the locker room.
00:59:04Like, when did you in your career, this probably goes obviously back to your days with the Packers,
00:59:09but when did you feel comfortable stepping up to be a leader in that locker room?
00:59:16This locker room?
00:59:17No, no, no.
00:59:17I'm just saying in your career.
00:59:18You know, because a lot of young guys feel like they can't say much.
00:59:21Ooh, nice pass.
00:59:22And then when did you feel like, ah, man, I'm established.
00:59:24I feel like I can voice my opinion on things and be a leader.
00:59:27I really got to give a lot of credit to A-Rod.
00:59:31You know, he really got me comfortable with being uncomfortable.
00:59:35I want to say it was either a year four or five.
00:59:39I think we're about to play the Cowboys at home.
00:59:46And he's like, hey, we bring it up as a team on a Saturday night.
00:59:52And as an offense, he's like, Jonesy, you got it.
00:59:57And it's me talking in front of the team, and I wasn't expecting it.
01:00:00So I wasn't necessarily comfortable with it, but it taught me to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.
01:00:08And from then on, they kind of continued having me talk, speak, and I would say a lot of it.
01:00:14Thanks to A-Rod just gave me that confidence to be able to speak up and use my voice
01:00:20and shed light to others and just give them the game as well.
01:00:25Well, that's cool.
01:00:25Aaron, you've been playing for a veteran coach in Curtis Motkins.
01:00:29What has he taught you, and what do you think of playing for him?
01:00:32Oh, I love Coach Motta.
01:00:35I hope you can see him right here.
01:00:41Let's go, Munch!
01:00:44He's done a lot for me on the field and off the field.
01:00:48You know, as a player, as you continue to get older, you want to continue to be Coach Tarr.
01:00:53You don't want to come back and nothing be said to you.
01:00:57So me and him, we're always over-communicate.
01:01:00I'm always coming back, hey, Coach, what did you see there?
01:01:02Is there anything I could have done better?
01:01:05Aaron Jones mic'd up on the sideline, approaching the two-minute warning.
01:01:08And we've had...
01:01:10Oh, no, no, no.
01:01:10I'm on the...
01:01:12I'm not getting the play call.
01:01:13Sorry, guys.
01:01:14That's okay.
01:01:15No, no.
01:01:15Brosmer.
01:01:17Lownder, one of our new tight ends.
01:01:19No, he really takes the time to invest in you as a person.
01:01:23And to me, that's the biggest thing.
01:01:25You know, people can get caught up in, this can be a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately business.
01:01:34But now with Coach Motta, you've established a relationship.
01:01:38That relationship is there for life.
01:01:39And like I said, it's not just about ball.
01:01:42All right, approaching the two-minute warning.
01:01:44Are you ready to tear up Green Bay in two weeks?
01:01:48Sorry, one more time?
01:01:48Are you ready to tear up Green Bay in two weeks?
01:01:52Oh, yes, sir.
01:01:53I'm looking forward to it.
01:01:55All right.
01:01:56Thanks, buddy.
01:01:56That was great.
01:01:58You're welcome.
01:01:59Got a circuit on my calendar.
01:02:00Bye, Aaron.
01:02:01Aaron Jones.
01:02:03After Kevin O'Connell mic'd up on the sideline.
01:02:05Vikings PR, thank you very much for arranging that.
01:02:08It was terrific.
01:02:09Back shortly on the B.E.N.
01:02:121.57 to go in the preseason.
01:02:1534-6 Denver.
01:02:17Ken Lieber, Pete Versich, Paul Allen, Tatum Everett on the sideline.
01:02:22Tatum's done wonderful work on the sideline all preseason.
01:02:26Games have been fun to call, largely due to the mic'd up sideline inclusion.
01:02:32Aaron Jones was great.
01:02:34Kevin O'Connell was great.
01:02:36Joshua Metellus last week.
01:02:38Could have Nolan Teasley in the booth.
01:02:41Justin Jefferson.
01:02:42I mean, how about Justin Jefferson?
01:02:45On the microphone for the only touchdown we've scored in the preseason.
01:02:50Until this by Max.
01:02:53It's a Marshall Lang screen.
01:02:5630-25 hit hard.
01:02:58Ball came out.
01:02:59Preseason over.
01:03:00Denver ball.
01:03:01Just go ahead and take three knees and let's move on to Green Bay.
01:03:06Oh, wait.
01:03:06We got a player down.
01:03:07Yeah, it's him.
01:03:09He's not.
01:03:09It's 81?
01:03:10Yeah.
01:03:11He got hit.
01:03:11Yeah, he got hit hard.
01:03:18Oh, wow.
01:03:24Yeah, we've had sadly far too many players meeting the likes of Tyler Williams and Dr. Chris Larson
01:03:34on the field this evening.
01:03:37We can see it on Fox 9.
01:03:40You know, that was a hit from behind.
01:03:43Yeah, he got kind of hit from behind and then was going down sideways.
01:03:48It was red.
01:03:48It looks like he took a shot to his neck areas that kind of like snapped there to the right.
01:03:57Marshall's, like you said, provided some juice, you know.
01:04:01Yeah.
01:04:01Yeah, that's on a Northwestern free agent.
01:04:03Well, Nolan Teasley, the new GM, got hired June 1st.
01:04:08So, I mean, we're coming up on his third month having become the general manager of the team.
01:04:14And he, I mean, he wasn't part of the draft, wasn't part of free agency here.
01:04:18He's brought in a little more than a handful of players.
01:04:21And, like, Marshall Lang was on the Seahawks practice squad.
01:04:25So, I mean, if the guy who just hoisted the Lombardi with John Schneider brings in somebody
01:04:31from that practice squad, that raises your guys' eyebrows and my eyebrows.
01:04:35And now you can kind of tell why.
01:04:37I mean, Lang's not bad.
01:04:39No, I mean, he obviously showed some juice there.
01:04:41I mean, that's, I think they are looking for somebody, and we talked about it earlier with
01:04:46Bartholomew, that I think can give you a little bit more of a receiving threat out there as a big
01:04:51body tied in.
01:04:52And they've got a bunch of guys with Urasik and Bartholomew and even Bryson Nesbitt,
01:04:58who we have not seen much.
01:05:00But, you know, they are looking for these longer basketball-type bodies that actually can run
01:05:07in space.
01:05:07You saw a little bit right there from Marshall Lang.
01:05:09All right, so, Ellinger is going to take a series of knees, and the Broncos will beat the Vikings
01:05:1634-6.
01:05:18On to the regular season, two weeks from tomorrow.
01:05:23If at all possible, make sure you all listen to the games at FM 100.3 KFAM all throughout
01:05:31the upper Midwest with either the or one of the biggest team affiliate networks with the
01:05:38KFAM Minnesota Vikings Audio Network in the entire National Football League.
01:05:43We will have, Ben, Pete, and I will have each and every game for you beginning around 325,
01:05:49a couple of Sundays from now against Green Bay.
01:05:51We catch Green Bay without Micah Parsons.
01:05:54That's not a bad deal, right?
01:05:56No, it's not.
01:05:56And for us to be going into this opening game with a brand-new quarterback, Green Bay is
01:06:02not going to know what to expect schematically out of this offense.
01:06:06So, I think in that regard, we as the Vikings have a huge advantage at games also at home.
01:06:12So, you want to do everything you can to win that opening game, especially if it's a home
01:06:18game.
01:06:18But against a division rival like Green Bay, man, you really want that game to go, and
01:06:23you've got about two weeks to get ready for it.
01:06:25That guy talking to Aaron Jones, Jalen Redman, one of my favorite guys on the team, one of
01:06:30the most underrated players in the league, isn't he?
01:06:32Yeah, absolutely.
01:06:34Loved his story arc from last year in the preseason where he came out and just played huge in games
01:06:38like this and came up big for us during the regular season.
01:06:41So, he's absolutely solidified himself as one of the better players in the defense.
01:06:46After that, the team goes to Chicago for the first road game.
01:06:50So, you start with a couple of toughies.
01:06:52And you've got several toughies on your team, including Aaron Jones doing selfies with fans.
01:07:00We saw Kyler Murray.
01:07:02Dallas Turner was unblockable during the joint practices against Baltimore.
01:07:07And we thank all of you for watching on Fox 9 and listening on KFAN.
01:07:12The Broncos finished the preseason by beating the Vikings 34-6.
01:07:16And for Tatum Everett, Ben Lieber, and Pete Bursich, I'm Paul Allen.
01:07:20We thank directors Pat O'Connor and John Walsh.
01:07:23Producer Steve Johnson.
01:07:24Graphics are Jeff Island.
01:07:26Audio, Steve Ahonen.
01:07:28Replays Dave Barry and Christian Rangel.
01:07:31I saw Skip Kruger in the lobby.
01:07:33So, Skip, well done.
01:07:34Thanks for watching and listening.
01:07:36Bye.
