00:00The design of the Stalingrad tractor plant was commissioned from Albert Kahn by Armthor in 1928.
00:05The plant was designed in the shortest possible time, built in the USA, then dismantled,
00:09transported to Soviet Russia on 100 cargo ships and assembled in six months under the supervision
00:14of American engineers. The Americans understood perfectly well that the Stalingrad tractor plant
00:19had a dual purpose and was considered a military facility. For this reason, the deal was not widely
00:23publicized and Kahn wanted to keep his involvement in the project confidential. However, the prospects
00:28of cooperation during the economic downturn in the USA pushed Kahn's company to continue working
00:33since the Soviets paid on time. And the next major order was the construction of the Chelyabinsk
00:38tractor plant. On May 29, 1929, the Council of People's Commissars adopted a resolution on the
00:45construction of a tractor plant in the Urals. The location for this was ideal. Kopiesk was supposed
00:49to supply the plant with cheap fuel, the Chelyabinsk State District power plant with the necessary energy,
00:54and the rapidly growing Magnetogorsk metallurgical plant with pig iron and coke. The plant's production
00:59capacity was set at 40,000 machines per year. In terms of output, CHEZ was supposed to produce
01:05one and a half times as much as the Stalingrad and Karkov tractor plants combined. Naturally,
01:10the Soviet Union could not design such a grand enterprise on its own, so it turned for help
01:14once again to the same con. A design bureau called Chelyabinsk tractor plant was established
01:20in Detroit, where 40 Soviet and 12 American specialists worked together on the master
01:24plan for JTZ. On June 7, 1930, the development of the master plan for the Chelyabinsk tractor
01:30plant was completed, and already, on August 10 of the same year, in a ceremonial setting,
01:35the foundations were laid for the foundry, forge, and machine assembly shops. 307 companies from
01:40Germany, the USA, France, and England participated in supplying equipment for the Chelyabinsk tractor
01:44plant. Of course, Soviet enterprises did not stand aside. It took only three years to build
01:50the Chelyabinsk tractor plant, and on June 1, 1933, the grand opening of the Chelyabinsk tractor plant,
01:56named after Stalin, the largest project in the USSR, took place.
