00:00a real revolution took place during world war one and here of course we are talking about tanks
00:06the first tank in history the british mark one from 1916 was powered by a 105 hp daimler engine
00:13weighing nearly 28 tons this allowed the machine to crawl at just six kilometers per hour but even
00:19that speed was enough to cross trenches and barbed wire and naturally strike fear and terror into the
00:25enemy infantry the french renault ft which became the prototype for all subsequent tanks with a
00:31rotating turret had a 39 host p engine that pushed it to seven kilometers tear from that's laughable
00:37by modern standards but it was this tiny engine that kicked off the subsequent evolution in military
00:41technology interestingly rare engine types were also actively used in world war one for example
00:46the a7v tank the only german tank to enter series production during that war was powered by two
00:52daimler inline gasoline engines generating 100 hp each this made it more powerful but it was
00:58excessively heavy and handled very poorly
