00:06named Angelica, better known as AJ, who was 18 years old, had not come home.
00:12When AJ's mother arrived home after work, she didn't find her daughter, but on a table there was a piece
00:19of paper with a message that said the following.
00:22Dear mother, with everything that's going on, it's hard for me to deal with it. AJ's parents knew that their
00:29daughter was going through a lot of stress with her first year of college, her romantic relationship, and also family
00:35problems.
00:37She had a biological father she wasn't in contact with, so her mom's husband decided to adopt her.
00:45When this happened, the mother had kicked Wesley, her latest partner, out of the house because she found out that
00:51her husband had relapsed into using illegal substances, so he had moved to a nearby hotel.
00:56All these situations caused AJ a lot of stress.
01:00That night, the parents contacted people in their circle, but no one had seen her.
01:05Then, they filed the official missing person report with the Norfolk police.
01:10When the authorities began investigating the case as a possible crime, the first thing they did, apart from questioning everyone
01:16around her, was to analyze the evidence they had.
01:18The letter didn't make sense compared to how she communicated with her parents.
01:22The text messages weren't normal either.
01:25The authorities compared the old messages that AJ used to send with the ones sent on March 2nd and 3rd,
01:322015, and found huge differences.
01:37Many of the words and phrases found in these messages didn't match how AJ normally communicated through these means.
01:45This suggested that maybe AJ had been kidnapped, and that someone, someone else was sending those text messages.
01:51On March 6th, 2015, a friend of the victim named Corey French, with whom she had a romantic relationship back
01:59in high school, called the police station because he had found AJ's credit card.
02:06Supposedly on the street, AJ's father said that his daughter had mentioned that Corey was obsessed with her, and that
02:11he needed to be investigated further.
02:18That when he saw his daughter at the gas station, she was wearing her university jacket, that same jacket had
02:26been found at Corey's residence.
02:28The person who reported this to the police was a man named Andre Barr.
02:34But when they questioned Andre as a suspect, he said something that would completely change this investigation.
02:40So they asked him about the coincidence of finding both pieces of evidence, to which he said it was no
02:47coincidence that someone had told him about those clothes.
02:53That someone was AJ's father, Wesley Hatzel.
