00:39as dominant this year, but he is still the reigning world champion. Jacoby Thart, the
00:43world record holder, came unstuck a little bit on Thursday night in Lausanne. And Jamal
00:47Britt, if you ignore his DNF in Rome, hasn't put a foot wrong all year. Jakob Szymanski will
00:52get a big cheer from the home crowd. Just took a bronze at the European Championships,
00:56but he was a world indoor champion in Toronto here in Poland. Kendri Menendez, the 20-year-old
01:02Cuban, is quietly building a great year, second at the last two Diamond Leagues. And Orlando
01:06Bennett of Jamaica, the final athlete out of May 9. The silver in Tokyo behind Cordell Tinch.
01:13That world record run from Jacoby Thart sent ripples through the Athletics World, did that in the
01:18semi-final of the American Collegiate Championships. He has, he has converted that to good form on the
01:25circuit, on the pro circuit. Constantly having to prove himself against not only his American
01:33teammates, Tharp is flanked by Jamal Britt. Athlete with the most wins this season, and
01:40Cordell Tinch, the reigning world champion. The home favourite, Jakob Szymanski, goes in lane
01:467. Men's 1.10 hurdles.
02:01Good start from pretty much everyone. Maybe Trey Cunningham with a slight lead at the moment.
02:05The hurdles are falling over though. Trey Cunningham might have lost the momentum. Jacoby Tharp is on the charge,
02:10as is Jamal Britt. Here come the Americans. Jacoby Tharp on the lean, 13.06.
02:18And perhaps the mistakes of Lausanne have sharpened his focus.
02:25He's so quick between the barriers, Tharp, and I think when the pressure's on and he's chasing, he's almost too
02:30fast for himself.
02:31Maybe today was a little bit of calm it down and just have a clean race, because that's another way
02:36to win. You don't have to be lightning quick the whole time.
02:39And then Jacoby Tharp, 13.05. And the meeting record from the Tega does survive. I really thought that would
02:45go today.
02:45Yeah, I did as well. I noted it down, 13.03. I think you're absolutely right. If you fall off
02:50the horse, the best thing is to get on it straight away.
02:52And he fell off big time, didn't he, in Lausanne on Friday. Bashed into the sixth hurdle. And we were
02:58chatting to Trey Cunningham, you and I, over dinner last night.
03:01And he was saying here that Jacoby is such a talented hurdler, but he hasn't clipped many hurdles in his
03:09young career so far.
03:10And he got through that, and that's impressive. Not just because he won, but against the backdrop of what happened
03:15only, what, two, three days ago.
03:17That's a really good response. Cunningham, in the end, just beaten to it on the dip, 13.08. And Jamal
03:25Britt, who's been dominating with Tharp the season so far, 13.09 for third.
03:31We had a faller as well. Menendez, I think it was, who went down. But that's a great response for
03:41Tharp.
03:42It is, and the front on focusing in on, or favouring Szymanski, the home athlete. But you can see Cunningham
03:47over there in lane three, who ended up with second place. I think he knocked three hurdles over, at least.
03:54But that's what he was talking about. You've got to be able to tolerate that. You've got to be able
03:57to deal with it.
03:58And perhaps Tharp, well, definitely wasn't able to deal with it on Thursday night, but tonight just reining it in
04:05ever so slightly. This afternoon, excuse me, just reining it in ever so slightly.
04:08And that 13.05, enough to lead home a 1-4 for the Americans.
