00:00I was trying to get him hurt and it didn't work, but.
00:03Slight hammy, pull the hammy, doing my dead sprint.
00:06Come on, who knew Wendell could drive like that?
00:14You know, there was certainly a little bit of a feel to sort of, you know, make it a little
00:17bit bigger
00:18because we were sort of, you know, playing for the big screen as when we shot it.
00:22But to me, it's all based in character.
00:24And I thought we sort of had a great, you know, intense sort of heightened stakes character development with Jack,
00:30which sort of necessitated sort of everything else to be a little bit bigger as well.
00:34So I think it all sort of stems from character, even the action sequences that we do.
00:38So if we could sort of bust out more character and more character development
00:41and more interesting stuff for our characters to do,
00:44then I think putting them in larger action sequences made sense.
00:48You know, the last thing you want to do is be in just big action sequences
00:50for the sake of them being just big action sequences.
00:53But certainly we sort of thought about that a lot and sort of thought that, you know what,
00:58we need to sort of, you know, up our game a little bit in this one, which hopefully we did.
01:02I mean, full disclosure, Pilates.
01:05I mean, I knew that this was going to be a lot more action that we had done before.
01:09And I've almost always done all my stunts, for better or for worse.
01:13And this time, honestly, the thing that always hurts me the most is running,
01:18because going from a standstill to a sprint is very, very difficult if you don't know what you're doing.
01:25So stretching was weirdly the big headline for me on this.
01:28But no, I mean, the fun part about the movie action-wise was we really got a chance to push
01:34this,
01:34because I think the key to the movie versus the show is now that you fell in love with these
01:38characters from the show,
01:40you're able to put them in a more compressed situation and put them through more harrowing situations,
01:44whether that be interpersonal relationships and animosity or harrowing situations in the physical world, too,
01:52with car chases and shootouts outside of St. Paul's.
01:56But I think it's all because these characters you care about that these action set pieces work.
02:02And so I was thrilled to get to do it, and I was thrilled to get to see him to
02:05do more action.
02:06And I was trying to get him hurt, and it didn't work.
02:09But slight hammy, pull the hammy, doing my dead sprint.
02:13Like you said, you go from that standstill.
02:15And, you know, my wife's personal trainer, yoga instructor,
02:19and I learned my base from her that I can take with me on the road when I go do
02:24these things.
02:24So I'm constantly, you know, I'm a little older now,
02:27and so I'm constantly working to try and keep myself at least preventative, you know,
02:33to not get hurt doing this shit.
02:36They were all typical.
02:37They all had their own challenges.
02:38But I would have to say probably the London car chase was the most difficult
02:42just because, you know, we had to shut down a whole bunch of central London,
02:47which is never easy.
02:48We had, you know, limited time to do it, which one always has.
02:53And we wanted to shoot it in a really cinematic, exciting, visceral way that takes time
02:59and also the safety issues of doing big car chases and stuff like that in a big, you know, pedestrian
03:05area.
03:05So that was probably the most difficult one.
03:07And then, of course, the boat chase in Dubai had its own big challenges because you're on water,
03:12and any time you're on water, that's always much more logistically difficult.
03:16But that's the fun of it.
03:17You know, they presented their own different challenges.
03:21But, you know, the fun of it is also to pull it off.
03:24And at the end of the day, as a collective, as a big group who has to do these things,
03:28sort of pat each other on the back and go, nice job.
03:31I mean, Betty was so good and is so good in the movie.
03:35She's such a huge character.
03:36But I think that what I loved most was the stakes that always came in the movies that I grew
03:42up on.
03:43You know what I mean?
03:43There's always super high stakes in Hunt for Red October, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger.
03:47And I think that, you know, at some point, the feeling of how to progress this further
03:53is to not only lose someone that we all care about, but to lose someone that is a massive chess
03:58piece on the geopolitical board.
04:00And so once you threaten and or more than threaten the director of the CIA,
04:06all of a sudden the entire world dynamic shifts.
04:09And that's what we needed from the movie.
04:11And so that's why we made the decision to do that.
04:13But honestly, it was with great remorse because I would have loved to work with Betty for years to come.
04:21So we'll just have to find something else to do.
04:23You know, no, honestly, you know, we're very economical in making these movies because we just need to be.
04:29So, you know, yes, is there stuff left on the cutting room floor?
04:33Sure.
04:33But not there are just extensions of things that are in there.
04:36There wasn't like a big sequence we cut out or or sort of, you know, you know, there's a scene
04:40here or a scene there.
04:41But but no, I think, you know, we kind of knew the story we wanted to tell and we're pretty
04:46economical about shooting it.
04:47So and there wasn't stuff that I was like, oh, my God, I wish we had done like, you know,
04:51you know, whatever this or whatever that we we had enough like our plate was full.
04:57There was nothing else we needed to do.
04:59And we wanted to like anything sort of whatever we shot, we wanted to attack and know we could accomplish
05:04it and accomplish it well.
05:06So, you know, with that in mind, you know, we swung for the fences.
05:11I mean, to be honest, the crossover I would love to see and I've always loved to see is Michael
05:17B.
05:17Jordan coming into our playing field.
05:20You know what I mean?
05:20Like that's the Clancy character that we would love to bring in and play around with.
05:24I talk to Michael about it all the time.
05:25I think he has an availability window in 2045.
05:28So we'll see if maybe when he's available, then we'll talk.
05:31But no, I mean, this the universe, like you said, Tom Clancy built this very smartly and and and people
05:39fell in love with the specificity of these characters.
05:42So the more you can collide them, the better, I think.
05:44I, you know, listen, I'd love to continue with Jack Ryan because I think, you know, I've lived with this
05:50character for a long time.
05:51I think there's a lot of mileage left in learning about this guy and and what makes him tick in
05:56the world he's in.
05:57And I think that character is super interesting because our world is changing.
06:01And as our world changes, Jack Ryan changes.
06:03And I think it's always going to be relevant.
06:05But, you know, listen, Wendell's character is another character I love and I would love to explore more of.
06:11I just think he's super interesting.
06:12You know, he gets a lot of screen time in this movie, which I'm thrilled about.
06:16And Wendell's such an incredible actor that any chance to explore the world with Wendell is like gold for everybody.
06:23So, yeah, I just love Clancy's world.
06:26I just think he's sort of he's always going to be relevant because he was talking about stuff.
06:30You know, history repeats itself.
06:32And I think, you know, we're going to keep talking about this for a long time.
06:36You ready?
06:38Let's go cause an incident.
06:46Let's go cause an incident.
