01:40It was built by William Kelly Smith,
01:43a Scottish engineer who amassed great wealth from rubber and tin mining
01:48after many years of hard work.
01:50It was unlike the homes of other British landowners in the colony.
01:55In 1915, for his newborn child,
01:59he began to build the most ambitious residence in the entire region.
02:03It had 14 rooms,
02:05an underground wine cellar,
02:07a rooftop tennis court,
02:08and a network of secret passageways.
02:12According to the original plan,
02:14these passageways were supposed to connect the mansion to a village,
02:18a nearby Hindu temple,
02:20and an escape route that, to this day,
