Who watches over Tabung Haji? Who is protecting investors from risky cash trusts? And why are some MPs still fighting for fair constituency funding?

From financial accountability to political power struggles, the tough questions are piling up. Is Malaysia’s system really working for the people or is it time for a serious reset?

Tomorrow we address these issues with Petaling Jaya MP, who is also in the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Finance and Economy, Lee Chean Chung.

00:00excited because you know he's like one of the major faces of pkr um you okay to be clear he
00:06has recently resigned from his post as a leadership council yeah after 17 years right yeah okay 17
00:13years that's like a whole spm habit that's a whole like high school primary school life
00:22okay um today our topic is fixing the system time to fix the system right and we're not
00:29talking about which system because there's a lot of systems we want to talk about today right
00:33okay we're going to be talking about um government financial system and also the political system a
00:40little bit okay all right so before anything else i want to talk about the first topic
00:46which is actually okay we won't touch go deep because it's super deep and super controversial
00:50and super belum di debate di parlimen lagi of which issue um debated debated but uh some
00:58waiting for more actions yes exactly yeah um aside from the fact that most of them walked out during
01:04the first session but okay so let's talk about that um the reason why i'm asking why beyond
01:11tamang haji aside from the fact he's a rap to the people he you are also
01:19economy right yeah okay so are you guys actively
01:35the topic of hearing or discussion in the past uh
01:46um i think someone has really uh healed it in a very good way uh that it didn't uh really
01:53come
01:54to the picture of public uh that prompt us to to call for hearing okay all right so the rcia
01:59punya
02:00report has been completed and been published publicly and it's supposed to be further debated in
02:04parliament on what what's to be done blah blah blah blah blah right yeah yeah so given the whole situation
02:13what would the select committee be pushing for in terms of a statutory body like tamang haji yeah that
02:21definitely is a very controversial um topic uh and and at a very controversial timing because we have
02:27been told that the report uh was actually done three years ago and and the timing on why uh is
02:33only
02:34i mean completed so called and ready to be debated in parliament is uh anyone's guess at the same
02:41time i have been following the debates uh that was uh tuesday right two days ago yes and it was
02:48uh
02:48really very heated debate uh opposition strangely um a block of them walk out yes though they are paid by
02:56taxpayers uh to really monitor and to scrutinize the government uh i have really no idea on why
03:03they choose to walk out but at the same time um looking at how tabung haji uh issue unfolded like
03:09we get to see uh the clearer picture that is a very blatant uh abuse of power and also uh
03:18misuse of
03:19public funding that has caused a near collapse of an important institution uh not only of course for
03:25pilgrimage and to the uh muslim friends but also to the country because it also represents the
03:31reputation of our country i remember talking to some african friends uh when i was abroad right they paid
03:37very high tribute actually uh and regard regards for tabung haji because it's a very uh inventive uh
03:44mechanism uh set up back then to allow uh our uh muslim uh friends right to perform their pilgrimage
03:52uh but then uh it's it's really saddening to see uh so many uh controversial uh corruption and abuse of
04:00power and uh also misuse of a public fund without due procedure uh that that happened uh on tabung haji
04:07so like um in terms of the financial system itself right have you have you as a pkr leader and
04:15also i'm
04:16sorry as a leader a member of a rep and also person in the select committee have you like scrutinized
04:24the
04:24report and have highlighted like the key issues that we should be highlighting yes indeed uh even before
04:30i became the mp when i was here at adun um i've been knowing you back then right that tabung
04:36haji was a
04:37very important issue i remember i remember even before 2018 right and then the rci was set up after 2018.
04:43so uh in that in that case right um to say that we only pay attention or i only pay
04:49attention recently
04:50is not true because uh tabung haji together with felda and uh other uh so-called institutions right
04:56that uh and bright with so many uh problems uh it didn't start today but it happened years uh ago
05:03so uh for select committee to uh really take uh take part in in the whole monitoring mechanism and also
05:11to further scrutinize of course we need to wait for the government action and i hope stern actions uh
05:17including all the recommendations by other mps uh some deemed uh very timely and very accurately i think
05:25pointed out the problems to have a multi-agency task force to look at even some projects right so
05:31called projects of investment that that that write off entirely right if you look at a single uh i think
05:37biggest project in saudi arabia i think uh about 1.8 billion uh was actually right up and totally
05:44so that that's amounted to about 20 percent of the total build up we build up 10 billion right from
05:51taxpayers money on on this fund but uh about 20 percent uh wasted uh and and uh right out right
05:57off entirely
05:58uh in uh uh in one single investment and there are 14 problematic investment out of 14 seven of them
06:06uh got uh really totally uh right off okay and also there's also like a debate on how tabangashi is
06:13under the regulatory framework of bank negara malaysia so from uh financial public policy
06:19financial governance and public policy perspective right like do you support the bnm oversight for th
06:26and how would this impact unique operational structures i am open to that because we know who could provide
06:32better governance structure and in this case uh definitely bank negara uh is uh one of the very
06:38good candidate and it's also time after decades of uh tabung haji act right uh being implemented and
06:46since it's uh an admin i think it's really time to look at how can we provide better governance structure
06:52to tabung haji uh that uh and bright i think in in so many scan scandalous uh problems another thing
07:00uh
07:00testing i would like to highlight is a very fine line between uh really corruption and also um i
07:06think being stupid in making investment because um remember last time the uh i think auditor general
07:13report right also say oh it's actually not corruption but uh it's uh uh doubly mahal okay so so sometimes
07:21stupidity is a very good disguise right uh a good excuse for you to really get away uh from so
07:28-called
07:28commercial criminal investigation i believe uh moving forward the country needs to be more
07:33performance oriented so if you uh trying to really blur the line of uh being incompetent and stupid but
07:41uh causing so much of losses to the people right i don't recall any single person being um i think
07:46terminated or even being uh in this case right demoted so i believe the culture of excellence also
07:53uh equally important i love the fact that you highlighted that we should be performance oriented
08:00which is kind of insane does that mean we're not performance oriented isn't that like should be the
08:05priority in our lives right now like the best people should be on top yeah that's actually that should be
08:10the baseline but unfortunately the way we look at it it's not it's not only far from being performance uh
08:16based uh but it is like they are competing on who can actually uh do the worst or in this
08:22case
08:23double haji so we look at the case of say uh putra pedana also causing the loss of 183 million
08:29okay
08:29that's not a small sum and i think enough to buy the entire sinaharian building oh my god but uh
08:35and
08:35we know that putra pedana is closely associated with a fidgety figure called joe law right and i mean god
08:42knows where
08:43joe law is today uh and why that investment came uh by at about 2014 um and and joe law
08:50was uh very uh
08:52i think still very active back then and and why the the fact that tabung haji um management or even
08:58the
08:59directorship right uh could allow these things to happen i think that warrants really a lot of
09:05investigation i mean it's joe law again i think maybe joe law has performed really well that's why
09:10but that has caused the complete uh again written off uh 183 million down to zero i'm being sarcastic
09:17i'm being sarcastic here he has performed in hollywood really well that's right that's right yeah i'm very
09:23i'm being sarcastic i'm not being serious i know i know yeah okay who knows joe law looks like a
09:29um um very serious figure sometimes back then so um moving into okay it's great that we're talking
09:35about tabang haji because you said the report was actually three years ago the complete rci right
09:40but only published recently coincidentally during the negeri similan election a lot of people saying
09:46that is actually very focused on politics not you know counter the situation to get votes
09:52ke apa ke whatever um do you think that was related or not i think i think given what has
09:58happened right you can't stop people from thinking that oh uh someone has weaponized the report yeah the
10:05rci report that like has been sitting on the table of someone for three years and three years is a
10:11long
10:11time yeah yeah and and you are hiding the facts uh from the knowing uh of many penjarum like many
10:19uh
10:19depositors uh in the past three years uh which they deserve to know the entire picture because rci is
10:25also uh i think from by using public money yeah so in this case to me it's unfortunate for people
10:32to
10:32have that perception and we cannot blame them exactly so you know was it just a bullet used because
10:40how how good right if you imagine i sit on the select committee right if it's revealed or published
10:46three years ago okay a debate and then uh we committee can also step in to say that we we
10:52should follow up after like pac yes after a year we look at the what probably we have solutions now
10:58yeah yeah we have solutions now and things probably are on better footing and those that uh i think
11:02we are doing injustice uh some maybe some perpetrators could have been brought to uh justice right three
11:08years is delayed justice is injustice in my case yeah i agree yeah yeah okay so but but good good
11:15for
11:15those people they have been continue enjoying their life okay all right that was harsh um okay so this
11:22is tabang haji and let's move into okay i want to touch something master tabang haji i mean aside from
11:29the era of tabang haji rci ni there was also another thing gst gst sst mnat yes the t's let's
11:38talk about
11:38all the t's let's spill the t's what's your take on gst and sst because there has been a lot
11:43of calls by
11:44i guess businesses may be wanting gst more than sst now um i think before that right um it's actually
11:52not a total substitution if i may clarify because gst and sst actually operates on very different
11:58regime all right um i think the only uh i think setback right was that uh in 2018 uh we
12:05scrapped the
12:05whole gst system so we have also have to be mindful to bring back gst you need to redownload
12:11reinstall and also reactivate much system and that is costly okay so now since we are living sst
12:18allow me to comment on a few problems uh with our um mof and sst sits uh under the custom
12:25department
12:26first is really the interface of uh i think paying sst uh uh what do you call that by the
12:32company you
12:32to pay your ssts uh either monthly or quarterly right uh the interface really not is not user friendly
12:39okay um it sucks uh i i thought uh probably uh if you are letting people pay right pay you
12:47right
12:47it's government comfort you're gonna senang but you look at the interface it's really uh quite
12:53a very dire state uh if i may say and secondly uh lots of uncertainty when we introduce sst because
13:00you could actually hit people on the different sst uh uh or in this case guidelines yeah it's not
13:08low yeah you can call it that they're plugging all these loopholes but at the same time also causing
13:13loss of uncertainty i'll give you an example more tenants right are subjected to uh eight percent uh sst
13:19when they pay their rents okay but whereby their electricity and water bill right uh they also pay to
13:25the master more operator uh it's not subjected to sst until recently until recently so they all got
13:32shocked because you know that business you need to budget like our family as well right my my children
13:38my child want to go to private school then to start budgeting but all this out of budget shock right
13:44would actually make our retail businesses um uh having a very pessimistic views on their prospect
13:49okay not only that uh there is also another um i think under the services tax act um section 12b
13:56and that now allows uh so uh so-called uh contract workers okay you know that in kilang right uh
14:03many uh
14:04factories actually most of the workers they are contracted yes yeah they are locals they are malaysians
14:09but they are contracted say if you work with intel you don't work with them directly
14:13and many yeah yeah yeah yeah they are local so-called manpower agencies now right all their uh epf
14:20sopso or when they claim their mileage all are subjected to sst so one company and uh if i may
14:28share right is a very big so-called logistic delivery company now we have lost last mile delivering
14:35parcels right yes they employ tens of thousands of people so every month they are subjected to extra two to
14:42three million ringgit of sst and they ask why exactly because they have been paying sst the
14:48default sst for a long time but now they are forced to pay extra sst so then now they are
14:53thinking
14:53isn't this a one layer thing like i pay sst it's to sudala but now it's like oh suddenly here
14:59i can get
14:59hit and then uh on on electricity people get hit get hit with sst it's not the great people but
15:05the manpower
15:06agency the company the company is not not the person uh but but again uh is is uh there are
15:13ripple
15:14effects right so eventually it might also impact that income so when when manpower needs to pay more
15:18they say oh sorry they'll cut they'll cut your increment or whatever you can claim too much right
15:23which is really uncertain uh it it gave a lot of uncertainty and i must also highlight that i've
15:30written to mof i've written to ksp uh our uh number one uh in mof telling them about these things
15:38and
15:38it's not something that's very small because it impacts the whole market it impacts all the global
15:43brands because uh it's usually those that use these manpower agencies are big companies like uh cosmetic
15:49companies uh those so-called merchandisers right and our cosmetic specialist sitting in the shopping mall
15:55we are under the contract um label uh agency so uh we are talking about investment climate
16:02and the confidence on the country oh my god that sounds insane yes so i hope um i think they
16:08can
16:08continue to listen and give timely and prompt feedbacks and updates okay i might not smart sound so smart
16:15right now but i'm just gonna ask you was this all like part of sst plan when it was implemented
16:22no it
16:23wasn't so when was this like that's why it's something enforced that is like um really uh implemented
16:29in a very unplanned way in my opinion because if you're telling people firstly i'm going to do this
16:35third year i'm going there should be a timeline right there should be a timeline and certainty but uh
16:40looking at how the policy makers on top right the bureaucracies uh work they're thinking like oh they
16:46are loopholes so i let's plug this and there are things that i can collect to reach my kpi
16:50so let's do this so that creates really a lot of grievances and dissatisfaction do you think this
16:57was enforced because they're trying to mitigate the financial situation in the country they are they
17:02are given kpis but they are of course the easier way to do it and also the harder way harder
17:07way is
17:08you really need to work harder to to find out all these culprits that don't pay but on the other
17:13hand is to introduce more measures and and in my opinion is is unfair and given now uh really the
17:19retail businesses are uh suffering um due to many factors yes some are seeing competition from the
17:26online portal of course uh from abroad very big uh portal com i think platform companies apart from that
17:32smes are um specific especially doing not very well don't talk about data center or the big investment
17:38all these small businesses yes they are struggling okay you know um last week i managed to interview
17:44uh datuk triyamah maslan okay and he was like one of the major faces of gst oh yeah but but
17:52okay um
17:53putting inside that he said that the winnings of johor and negeri singhland was mostly among the
18:01reasons why there was a shift in chinese voters because most i don't know didn't mean i don't want to
18:08be
18:08stereotypical here but most businesses are very very like upset uh upset unhappy because
18:14dengan um sst system and he mentioned he did mention all those things that you've said
18:20so he's like but that's a very broad surface statement but there is some relations to what
18:28you've just said because these are businesses and even federation of malayian manufacturers have
18:33spoken about it yes malay chambers of commerce chinese chambers of commerce they all have
18:38spoken about it since last year yeah they all have spoken about it and i just spoke about it last
18:43week and you're talking about the exact same thing now so of course i could relate la why datuk
18:47sri amat maslan wanted to endorse uh his gst nasi goreng because he is uh the very strong advocate of
18:55gst back then i i remember that um but to to simplify right um just to say that people voted
19:01uh against
19:02no like that's just one that's one uh then i think uh there is a basis for that uh it's
19:08not because
19:08of uh gst is good yeah but among two no one like taxes right yes but among two right at
19:14least gst has
19:15that certainty okay apparently so now uh especially after sst regime right keep changing keep amending
19:22having more program you don't expect to send your admin for training every three months right yeah that's cost
19:28that's business cost and given uh the very unfriendly really system to key in to submit
19:33and um strong penalty and apart from that uh you don't know whether it's again multi-tier or single
19:38tier because you get slapped here and there and and many i think the issue now is this sudden surprises
19:44right sudden surprises okay and be it whether you make money mind you whether you make money or not
19:49but you're gonna buy you're gonna buy you're gonna buy you're gonna buy when you consume something
19:56but if you are not the end consumer yeah you you get the so-called you can actually uh get
20:01the rebate
20:01okay refund sorry not rebate yeah
20:07during 2018 sst was one of the major campaign material yeah and it was successfully implemented until today
20:17okay would you say you're doing a youth day now i can only represent my own voice i don't think
20:23the
20:23party wanted me to represent the party okay okay i can't neither i can't represent the people i represent
20:30my views and some of the businesses right i i spend a lot of time with smes because i really
20:35look at the
20:36situation as very challenging i believe uh yes it warrants uh really we look at the tax regime
20:44okay um whether you call gst or vat or what it's actually just multi-tier or single-tier uh uh
20:50tax
20:50collection mechanism uh and to look at it to facilitate uh really to make especially small
20:56businesses life easier okay uh and at the same time you allow export competitiveness sst wouldn't have that
21:04because uh if it's a multi-tier you allow people to get uh actually uh uh to to to get
21:10the refund right
21:10so it would actually not pass on the cost yeah for you to do export it's also easier because you
21:16can actually you say i'm selling to consumers abroad so i get to claim back my my credits that
21:22that's better in that sense but we are also mindful that uh there's some there's some conditions some
21:26will say uh daddy touch a go we have to wait until the people um what do you call that
21:31um median salary and
21:33that to reach certain stage uh i do believe uh we should also look at it but at the same
21:39time why
21:40don't we kick start the discussion yeah i shouldn't demonize uh one tax regime maybe a tax regime that
21:46was not suitable 10 years ago about 10 years ago 2018 why don't we really look at it you get
21:51my point
21:51yeah yeah yeah you shouldn't take a very emotional state on it this is great this is like my follow
21:57-up
21:57question um we are no doubt looking ahead to ge16 regardless this year or next year okay do you
22:06think this would be weaponized into politics i don't know political material as well political campaign
22:12yeah the tax uh is it's now and you have businesses yeah supporting it like it's actually not accumulated
22:20into a a feeling it is it's and and ssd is only part of it remember the e-invoice uh
22:26there are a lot of
22:27really um bureaucratic uh rate types and also a lot of extra work that uh force small businesses to
22:35employees extra headcount to just handle these things it's just to maintain it's a cost it's a
22:41cost bookkeeping and all that so yes uh it now has actually uh culminated into a uh emotion that that
22:49um
22:49the government is not friendly to small businesses they are friendly to big data center you have a
22:55green lane i remember right and maida giving a lot of tax incentive but gdp seem doing well but the
23:02general people public don't feel it i think this is the biggest problem of uh the current government
23:08that uh whatever and how good all this top line news become right sinaharian headline wow gdp 5.5 but
23:16people don't feel it because it's the emotional well-being and uh it's it's really hitting them
23:21because gdp the way it calculates right it's total so big business can do well because data center came
23:26from abroad right when they are doing doing their business here conducting business here is counted as
23:32malaysia gdp but um small businesses don't feel that their business are getting better and the small
23:37uh simple and the small businesses are the voters they are the voters thousands of them millions of
23:43them right yeah so i believe um do not really get yourself uh in a bubble yeah uh that uh
23:51and and
23:52really uh get really comfortable with only these people you know i mean i love the fact that you said
23:58the website was like the first problem so technically urux is the one making you're right
24:04it's first step and things can be really automated and and just one example why do we need to pay
24:11soxo and epf using people's platform why do we why can't everything yes whatever i have contributed last
24:20month i just one click yeah i agree that's better yeah yeah yeah and they say akta lah this that
24:26lah i
24:27remember last time we try to push an omnibus act yeah that stream like everything yes where is it now
24:34yeah yeah yeah that would be a good question let's ask the people you really need mp i mean mp
24:39susalah
24:40monitoring right you need deputy minister minister the whole cabinet that functions uh to be very smes
24:46friendly okay and people friendly people friendly too sekarang it's just rhetoric lah because people
24:52on the ground don't fear it oh my god okay wow congrats to Ahmad Mazlan i think hopefully very soon
24:59the gst conversation uh he'll be happy to begin yeah that's great you can start together with him i don't
25:05mind if he invited me yeah in the double okay we can do uh masak a cook-off together check
25:13out
25:13say gst yeah but i i wish to unpack a lot more things okay not just about voting yes or
25:17no okay
25:18you know what next round of interviews i'm gonna invite Ahmad Mazlan and you together
25:21okay um my next question because you already mentioned a few times on data centers okay it's my
25:30favorite topic because the whole world is burning so um let's start it's been my god the weather has
25:37been so hot but it's been like jerebu okay fine jerebu haze is because of the because of other
25:44reasons but we are getting hotter we are all getting hotter the whole world the whole country so um
25:53there has been statistically i mean there has been evidence showing that data centers are the ones
25:57contributing to it right environmental the weather the water semua and Selangor has approved up to nearly 40
26:06data centers data news the new data centers construction and there is a bunch in Johor and
26:13i am in fear of more data centers to come i see this is very biased of me i'm sorry
26:18but in general what
26:20do you think i didn't blame general public for having a really uh some negative perception on data center
26:26because uh it's enclave right if you look at the building it's pretty close up and the security is
26:32really tight yeah so uh from the on-site it looks like a prison sometimes uh but we do have
26:39very nice
26:39data center uh i think in terms of at least it's building uh structure and all that but the gist
26:44of
26:44the problem uh is really a lot of engagement are needed i i told the data center they come to
26:50Selangor
26:50so to engage your neighbors your surrounding because um Selangor especially say pj right it's a very
26:56dense place as well so you need a lot of engagement for people to understand i do not say uh
27:02let's
27:03reject data center uh 100 percent yes we need to be very careful because it's really a big energy and
27:10water cruncher yes yeah it takes up lots of energy and water well it is still i think um within
27:17our
27:17acceptable level now but in the future uh what about uh if you're running out of uh water for
27:23instance right yeah i mean did we forget selangor didn't have water for years for a long time yeah
27:28but they will tell you the langat tool will soon be in operation blah blah blah but my my question
27:33first is on this whether it is for baloy for us to spend things on this but second is definitely
27:39outcome
27:40do not just value or measure the investment value because one gpu is really causing how much right
27:47so sometimes uh when the top line say uh five billion ten billion people don't feel it there is a
27:52reason because data center don't employ really a lot of people yes they didn't create many job
27:57opportunities until you um really push all this data center on three things okay i must mention first
28:04is actually the local content and do you uh have or meet the local contents and do we set local
28:10contents for all these companies secondly the job opportunities created like how are you going to
28:16train and also upskill all these people uh third but last but not least is uh how do you build
28:22that
28:22downstream from the data center you have because there are mega skill data center that really are
28:28serving global customers some are not local so you don't see them to me it's important to look at
28:33economic spill manpower talent building and also third is the really the water and energy to see how
28:42uh and and whether do we have sufficient supply of water and energy solely for more and more data
28:48center yeah so we have to but we should not discount the fact that um i think tmb is happy
28:55because they
28:56are selling more electricity to all these people and our tariff is um artificially lower than our neighbors
29:02uh that's actually one of the reasons why they come here yeah it shouldn't be
29:06to um i think we shouldn't boast ourselves and say uh because malaysia is attractive
29:11destination blah blah blah simply we have land cheaper than singapore yeah and our water and
29:17electricity uh tariff are also lower because so sebab kita lagi murah je lah sebab kita lagi murah je
29:22and kita ada tanah lagi besar lah tanah kita masih ada lah compared to compared to singapore that's why most
29:28of
29:28them are actually concentrated in joe yeah yeah for a reason because it's nearer to singapore yeah yeah
29:34yeah i mean like why it's not a thai border yeah yeah exactly right that's for a reason i mean
29:39it's
29:40banjir all the yeah yeah like there's a lot of water there yeah yeah so it's a spill it's a
29:45spill okay
29:46satu benda um since we're talking about data centers and also pj because you're the pjmp right there was
29:53a discussion a few months ago about how pj doesn't have a government public hospital and like they
30:00were questioning how the the data center which is basically the size of a proper hospital oh that's
30:08very interesting yeah they were they were actually saying that but then they come up the ministry came
30:14up with like taman medan punya tanah untuk buat kat situ yeah um how do you feel about that what's
30:19the
30:19situation that's still okay i am from kl and i do did grow up in pj as well like i
30:27do know the streets
30:29not the streets but you know my i know my way around but but it is very dense and it's
30:36like my god the
30:37roads are yeah so much um yeah a lot of people definitely pj is um i think to kl people
30:44is part
30:45of kl yeah yeah yeah so i think no surprise to that uh but just that um comparing apple and
30:51oranges
30:52i think don't just just simply it don't jive because the land of hospital definitely we wanted a
30:59more prime land yeah but that's not the problem of data center that's a problem of state government that
31:04this allow the hospital to be located at a more prime area which is in my case right i suggested
31:10container national okay if you know the place it's more prime and it's uh not subjected to uh worsening
31:17traffic congestion why don't you explain container nationals look at minor for the people to understand
31:21uh it's wow okay it's at located at uh near in that case uh sanway mentari okay yeah sanway mentari
31:29and uh next to federal highway so it's easy oh it's a intersection between federal highway and uh
31:36our ldp okay yeah so that makes really traveling easy and more strategic yes uh however they say the
31:43state government say that um so they wanted to keep that as their revenue which i disagree because uh
31:50it's people that are more important so isn't isn't that the land and people are the most important
31:56and and the fact that the land commands that prime value is because of the hardship of people
32:01in the last 30 years yeah they are working they are living around there right yeah then when they
32:07demand a hospital you say that uh the land is too expensive but without the people i don't think the
32:11land will be that expensive so in in in that part right i really disagree but falling short of uh
32:18really
32:18be able to influence that decision they land on probably the second best location which is tamamedan
32:24uh which i hope the government will really honor the words because i've been pushing for this issue
32:29for a long time okay three years since three years ago and find and for pj people it's more than
32:33three
32:33years uh uh the hospital you know that i mean pj is is strange ppum is a teaching hospital and
32:40it's
32:40located in kl mind you but nice to be jay and it's not really public you need to pay uh
32:47semi-private fees
32:49yeah uh and apart from that many of uh patients will refer to refer to uh kl uh hospital hkl
32:56yeah
32:57if not then shalam yes not then sungai buloh yes if not then uh sedang equally far right yeah it's
33:04strange after so many years right so i hope um this will materialize seriously testing to me is one of
33:10the
33:10very important uh commitment by the federal government state government now no excuse uh federal government same
33:16government yes state government is the same government yes no excuse and the mb is also in
33:23parliament yeah and can raise it as well yeah and it's also the mb and the prime minister are from
33:29the
33:29same party yes pkr yeah and also you're there you can also you i i i push for that yeah
33:37so i hope it
33:38will be received well okay and implemented effectively my god so scary kalau i mean when you put it that
33:43way
33:43there's no near hospitals in the location exactly emergencies are insane like everything is so crucial
33:50in terms of you're racing against time in the past two years i what i receive sometimes it's hospital
33:56bills from um ppum oh my god simply because they couldn't travel far it's emergency yeah then uh they
34:02were slapped with a hefty bill you know what i love that you raised this because can we talk a
34:07little bit
34:07about funding uh okay allocations yeah so now please look for uh someone that the accent as an agent
34:18between the icu and the rakyat yeah so look for the agent oh my god dahlah nama dia icu icu
34:24yeah related
34:25to hospital yes exactly my god so okay let's focus first on the financial things because we want to
34:31habiskan about the i want to talk about um the fact that the trust companies act that you mentioned
34:38about it before this on the trust companies bill because currently cash trust sits in a gary area
34:44between ssm and securities commission right so how should we be streamlining this what's the issue
34:52like the people are facing when it comes to issues machine it's a great area where people capitalize on
34:58okay and and and and to really enrich themselves uh so cash trust uh in my opinion right if you're
35:04selling financial products it has to be regulated under sc okay uh they have done it finally after i
35:09make noise since last year so starting first january uh it's under the preview of security commission
35:15however and how daring right some companies actually brought this to uh for a judicial review if you if you
35:22are reading um they they say sc doesn't have that full power full authority in uh investigating me
35:30uh which we'll leave it to the court of course i can't be subjudice right uh but after that to
35:37me the
35:37first thing for the government to do is really to again um close this loophole okay uh because i think
35:43many people suffered uh financial losses yes and i had no way really to reclaim back them yes because this
35:50is operated under a very great structure you have uh before that when i asked right who jaga this cash
35:57trust they say is ssm a company a company company's commission like isn't ssm is there to help us
36:07register a company yeah and not to monitor so it's it's strange and it's really outdated so that's again
36:14about the law making activism that we are talking about we need really more and more mps that keep pushing
36:19that have longer sitting hour that can draft our own bills which are still missing now uh in in
36:26the current uh government no matter how how great they say la the government is a progressive government
36:31we have done a lot but we do not see fundamental change in this to quickly response to uh i
36:36think
36:36the grievances of the people and then um legislatively right solve the problem you know it's ironic because
36:43everything we've discussed there is basically involving money and the people yes and you see a
36:50gap yeah right so the people their money their savings probably their retirement funds yes just siphon out
36:58day by day but this is related to scams as well right like i if i say they are scammers
37:05probably i get
37:05sue okay i will name a company but in this case uh they are really uh in my opinion uh
37:13they are doing
37:13a very smart syndicated operations okay uh and uh have also had a way to to to really clean up
37:22yeah so
37:24again uh let me take this opportunity to remind people um be very mindful on cash trust uh when they
37:30talk about cash trust and do your own due diligence before you make your decision to put in your money
37:37and also easy money doesn't come rolling right yeah no free lunch right yeah there is no free lunch
37:45and some of the skin promise you 20 percent a year 15 while it might sound maybe they can do
37:52it but
37:53really um they are not regulated uh fully so now these things is under traditional review
38:00and how funny is the company is a cash trust company that brought this um and and uh bringing
38:05this uh i think against the secretary uh the security commission yeah okay i'm paying close attention
38:12though so uh if there are more bad behaved industry players we will call for hearing again and we might
38:19call the private sector to come would you bring it up to the special committee i have written to them
38:24i've written to them so we are closely monitoring so mind you we are not only be able to call
38:29for
38:29call the government agencies we can call private sector to come and testify so watch out okay
38:37so another role aside from all the financial financial economy stuff that you hold you are also the
38:42sustainable energy development authority board okay um okay so we want to talk about the renewal
38:50energy by 2050 which is like 70 percent right yes 70 re um capacity in stock capacity yes um that
39:00is for
39:01commercial and residential solar adoption all in all or hydro and all that okay and also the rmk 13
39:10community plan for national adoption plan prioritizing climate resilience and everything that is like
39:17all these buzzwords yeah but this is all environmental stuff so let me quickly point to the urgency okay
39:26because there is an act that's very important it's called climate change act
39:30uh akta perubahan iklim or rang undang undang undang perubahan iklim rupin uh it should be passed long ago
39:36it should be passed uh at least uh last sitting uh in in i think june right yes yeah but
39:42however it was
39:43postponed okay and it's not the first time it was postponed and to me uh it's very uh disappointing
39:49because such an important bill yeah uh now i think today's news uh i've been reading they said they're going
39:56to
39:56bring this to october okay yeah so but see how we do not put climate change uh and you talk
40:02about
40:02heat waves yes and we all know heat wave kill thousands of people in this world right so extreme
40:07weather banjir in pj yes so all these issues right actually require our seriousness and uh attention uh
40:14however i do not see the government uh is um i think in this case right putting this even as
40:20a priority
40:21because climate change without framework yeah how to do yeah yeah yeah you need at least
40:26a basic framework so please get it passed as soon as possible uh and make it your reform package
40:31you know i feel like it's crazy we're in 2026 and we're gonna be like 2030 in like i don't
40:36know
40:38four more years four more years four more years sorry my match uh four more years and
40:43kita tak ada climate change act that's crazy right and to me it's stupid it's not just crazy because
40:49starting next year european union is going to impose us uh carbon tax meaning if we don't tax our own
40:57industries most our industry is export oriented if you don't tax them because you are letting other
41:03people to tax you yes yeah so you're still subjected to tax when you export products to eu and very
41:08soon
41:08i believe other regions yeah in in in this world we also be implementing a carbon tax so if we
41:14don't
41:14tax it for our own use to mitigate banjir to do uh we know that i mean coming from kuantan
41:20i know our
41:21seashore right it's uh the erosion yeah we are losing lands we're like sinking yes our farmers our moa
41:30our food security all will be at stake right yes but i i'm just seeing inaction of the people on
41:36climate
41:36change and to me it's it's one of the most important thing and they should make it a reform
41:42package yeah it's part of the very important reform yeah yeah but yeah but that sexy climate change
41:49they oh but ask orang muda ask you they're all paying a lot of attention oh my god i believe
41:54even our
41:54generation yeah yeah yeah when we shop right now you look at all the brands they are talking about
41:59sustainability yes they're talking about esg yes government spend millions on sdg yes there's even sdg uh center
42:06but do not just i think give rhetoric you know what like okay dekat johor dengan negeri similan
42:14election right maybe it's very state focused but you don't hear anything about sustainability or
42:21environment that's sentiments politics i mean really i mean you punya tan tanaman you punya
42:30buah-buahan you punya farms are like performing climate change is a huge issue right yeah though
42:36malaysia is a small contributor compared to other big countries but locally yeah but we still have to do
42:42things uh uh commitments are very important and we have ready promise as you say uh 70 uh re yes
42:49and the
42:49net zero blah blah blah right so to me it's important to um walk the talk yeah uh at the
42:55same time uh
42:56and sharing also our political landscape now i think culture is quite toxic yeah uh the way i look
43:02at joho and the greece milan and other elections uh uh because i had long i i have long memories
43:07uh
43:08it seems like indifferent to the campaign runs in the 80s or 90s yeah because i attended some campaigns
43:14when i was in high school okay it's still the same topic it's sentiment politics is the someone telling the
43:21chinese one thing and then the malays telling malay one thing and then uh just drive that wood and then
43:27try to get that wood so without really talking about all these important policies yeah and i think what
43:31all these important policies affect everyone regardless of race and religion right that's right
43:36yeah let's push or pull our focus back really to something that's important uh as you have to say okay
43:43um
43:44um before we talk about politics um after 17 tahun you sat down from the pkr council leadership council
44:00personally have anybody asked you how do you feel about it uh personally you mean my wife or
44:07like your family of course my friends and many really people even strangers they drop by a pj is a
44:14nice place okay people drop by and say we support you don't worry we understand yeah even sometimes i
44:21bump into some high-friars corporate people then told me uh why be i actually stay in pj uh please
44:26continue
44:27on what you have been doing yeah but of course they probably some haters as well that thought maybe i
44:33should
44:33be quiet i should just throw the line do nothing right because uh then i wouldn't make them look very
44:40bad okay i okay i cannot stop from thinking you've mentioned this is a very toxic political culture right
44:49now um is it from the inside or is it from the outside i don't entirely blame uh ph especially
44:58pkr in this
44:59case i think uh toxic politics i think everyone contributes to it okay uh but the fact that ph
45:05rarely right and gain support uh on the platform of hope yes meaning we really literally literally
45:13moral high ground literally you cannot uh really be tainted you have to be um uh someone that people
45:19feel hopeful yes if not i think that's the reasons why majority of people support the pakatan harapan okay
45:27but now i think uh it's it's really at the crossroads you also dah hilang harapan
45:34pakatan harapan masih adalah but to me i am not telling my feeling i'm just showing objectively uh if
45:41things don't change as i've mentioned many times uh really pakatan harapan you have a tough time
45:46okay yeah moving forward can i just ask you about the icu tadi i tanya sikit tapi tak oh okay
45:50just sikit
45:51because you are you are literally affected by it right firstly the promise was equal location must
45:59campaign election yeah clearly itu tidak dilangsaikan it wasn't carried out um said sadiq has been a massive
46:08vocal individual mp speaking out right for three years see up he went into entertainment to get money for his
46:18local people yeah do you suggest i need to do this i don't know maybe maybe maybe maybe your support
46:29um now that you are also part of this uh how do you feel i am actually quite emotionless because
46:36after all all has happened right i would rather see this from a third party point of view okay i
46:43mean
46:43looking at how a political party and a coalition promise reform promise change right and you wanted
46:51to give equal allocation to people simply because you believe in fairness and you believe in justice
46:58so uh and now it's not honor so i i think it's not really for me to command uh as
47:05a victim or
47:06uh and someone that uh i mean really don't have peruntukan uh since two months three months that's a
47:12long time yeah so kena buat macam saya sadiq la and you kena tolong bayar build hospital semua yeah yeah
47:20so
47:20but apart from that i i i thought it's good just to let public judge whether you honor your promise
47:26whether how do you treat your own people and uh if you really can't treat your your own people
47:33uh i think equally yeah and how do you expect people will believe that you do the same for
47:38the rakyat yeah right right so all these things will come and to me objectively speaking any party
47:44any coalition that comes to government they should do it okay they should and either true enactment uh
47:49puntukan saksama uh rUU or either you should park all this funding away from pmo and park it to the
47:57parliament meaning it's easy the budget you pass to parliament first for parliament to disperse
48:02and then you have a joint committee pembangkang and kerajaan and other yang tengah-tengah all come
48:07together and then manage all this uh collectively it shouldn't be politically motivated it shouldn't be
48:13weaponized it shouldn't uh really i mean victimizing me is one thing but you're victimizing really 200,000
48:20people in pj another 200,000 in subang 100 over thousand in empang yes and do you want more to
48:27come
48:27yeah one by one it's like i know what you did last summer yeah oh my god okay i just
48:34not okay this is
48:35this is maybe a lot of people are feeling less right what was the reason given why you were cut
48:42from the allocation no reason no reason just and you're black and white right now you belum resign
48:49there for your parliamentary position um you are still the pgmp you did not resign like what wong
48:57chan did this this week um yeah yeah and you did not resign from like rafizie did when he and
49:03nick nazmi
49:04did you are still a pkr member you are still an mp and you are still a head count for
49:11the current
49:11government to be in power right and you and a few others were fully removed from allocations
49:20without any excuses or reasons no it's it's funny and it's really like if you're working in sinaharian
49:28one day uh you you didn't get your access to enter the building yeah and then uh they don't tell
49:33you
49:34why it's like so to me uh it is really waiting for the reply from the disciplinary committee okay which
49:44i thought they should at least reply my letter uh it's again strange yeah i mean uh i've written the
49:51letter a month ago okay so it's really time no matter how far it is right one month is enough
49:57for you to
49:58do your thing and uh give a platform uh for for for really myself to further explain or then or
50:04for
50:04the party to take a decision right or make a judgment okay all right that's the process okay so sebelum
50:11kita akhir yeah kita kena tanya soalan the golden question oh boleh tak jawab secara jawapan sendiri
50:21it doesn't have to be yes or no um will you be joining bersama oh bersama yes
50:31party can chill political okay the yellow will you be joining rafizi nick nazmi and wong chen
50:38well this is uh usually uh the results right uh but uh the process and the niat la because it
50:47is
50:47is actually more important okay and to me uh as someone that supports progressive politics
50:52uh i i've never joined another party before uh pkr is my first party and uh how many years you
50:58mentioned 18 years 17 years right oh my my youthful age i'm so young man many of my productive time
51:07youthful ages actually i dedicated to the cost yes i don't think i want to give it out um so
51:14it's really
51:14about um the vehicle uh which one will carry the country and the right yard forward to allow a space
51:22for progressive politics you look at it it's very toxic today yeah uh and and um 3r is about i
51:29hand
51:29thumb you for your your your on your personality on it's about demonizing that i don't think it's healthy
51:35so i'm looking for uh really uh a good space for me to advocate this yeah so meanwhile you you
51:42come to
51:43that question yes or no um i will reserve that really uh for when the time comes uh but now
51:50as i said priority is really um to have a really professional reply from the party okay okay that's
51:57the least i expect now okay from the party okay okay i decided before we end because this sunday
52:02the dap will be going to vote oh i'm not yes you are not a dap member yes actually it's
52:10not true
52:11clarify definitely you are a pkr member but you are a coalition partner oh okay um so what do you
52:26think
52:26will the ap stay in government or will they step out and what's their impact because you are a pkr
52:33partner i mean they are you guys are okay okay and also isn't it weird like for a party
52:40when the chairman is like the prime minister uh i think they have their own uh really uh anxiety
52:50in this case uh and that caused them to call for this uh assembly anxiety yeah they have the anxiety
52:58you can't feel it right of course i can i think because uh they have rarely right the chinese
53:05community especially because still chinese-based yeah it's multi-racial yes i mean sorry to bangi
53:10bentong and my friends right but uh it's still a chinese-based party so i think they have really um
53:15and
53:16and and uh give a very high expectation to the community uh some are realistic but some are not
53:23realistic uh in my opinion and i believe uh it is it's really uh now it's like a cushion this
53:30egm serve
53:31as a cushion for them to um be answerable to um those that promise to vote them or what the
53:38those that
53:39have voted them in and in my opinion it really makes a little difference because to me the whole ph
53:45not only
53:46dap are in serious uh problem i wouldn't say it's existential crisis uh but to me is a crisis that
53:55i think they have never seen before okay yeah it's like sd roads coming and looking at result in the
54:03gris milan in joho shouldn't you be worried if you are a ph chairman or you are a dap leader
54:08right yeah
54:09so i think uh good luck uh all the best to them uh but to me uh it is a
54:14whole thing that matters
54:17up to them i i can't choose for them i don't know i don't know i don't know i'm not
54:22objective here
54:23but i'm neutral but let's say they leave the federal government dap leaves i can predict the
54:31consequence i mean whether yes or no i can't say uh if they choose to leave uh now right yeah
54:37uh the government
54:38will be severely weakened okay uh so it's uh probably the election will be near it okay
54:45if they choose to stay uh then probably it will prolong the current government okay
54:51but whether it's good or bad for dap for pkr for bn or pn right pn are the samples i'll
54:57be confused
54:58but uh it is it's really uh anybody's calculation okay about other than calculate macem-macem yeah
55:05and in my in my opinion it's sad because i see uh the progressive politics are losing uh really space
55:14in in the whole political narrative okay you know what this comes to my question a lot of people are
55:18talking about mandani zohran mandani the new york yeah yeah okay yes tu macam equivalent to us
55:25talking about the klct me or something i guess but they really want a mamdani in malaysia and
55:33people are calling it like i don't know people don't understand like politics couple but they're
55:38saying the guy can come from pass i mean why not i would say no to local election yes exactly
55:47that's
55:48what i'm saying it's a funny thing i would see it obviously from a psm or model maybe something like
55:54that but okay i mean social i mean he's openly he's an open but if you are talking about mayor
55:59election
55:59it's actually not on less on party yeah more on personality personality so it's actually interesting but
56:06you see now we are again uh stumble back upon right the very old narrative yes like pass will
56:11check out something that hey very familiar you mentioned that 10 years ago 10 years ago and uh
56:15bn also and now even ph also we are talking the same thing give me time we need time and
56:22and uh so to me it's time to break it really okay and then have something very different okay thanks
56:31okay okay thank you so much so mungkin kita akan see you soon soon okay okay thank you okay i
56:40really
56:40want to see the amak maslan and yb talking about gst and ssd i'll await your invitation all right thank
56:47you
