Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom faced a hostile reception outside Chicago’s Wintrust Arena before the Indiana Fever vs. Chicago Sky matchup on Sunday.

Freedom shared video showing a crowd gathering around him as security attempted to keep spectators at a distance. He was wearing a shirt featuring a definition of the word “woman,” a message connected to his recent criticism of gender policies in women’s sports.

At one point, a fan approached him and made an offensive gesture, while another mocked his basketball career, shouting, “You were sorry in the league!”

Freedom later described the situation on social media, writing, “We are getting attacked before the @WNBA game in Chicago.”

The former NBA center has become increasingly outspoken on women’s sports and recently declared himself eligible for the 2027 WNBA Draft. He says his move is intended to challenge the league’s eligibility rules and force greater clarity over who can compete.
