00:10They said they're apologising to the fans, to the AFLW and to the wider community.
00:15Now Callum Mills got up and he said that he was shocked when he learned of what allegedly happened that
00:22Sunday night in the hotel room at the Pullman in Victoria.
00:25Now he went on to say that he had never witnessed a behaviour like what is alleged before in his
00:32life.
00:33The real sentiment of that presser that this morning was one of disappointment.
00:38Now let's have a listen to what Coach Dean Cox and Callum Mills had to say.
00:42A culture isn't perfect. One thing that we do know is our culture has taken a hit.
00:51The thing you need to understand about a culture is how you respond and the actions you take following being
00:58hit.
00:59We're really disappointed of the actions of these five players and as a playing group we fully support the club's
01:05decision on the sanctions handed down.
01:08We take full responsibility and we are deeply sorry.
01:13And Molly take us through what the captain of the club's AFLW side Lucy McEvoy had to say.
01:21Yes Jo, now that press conference a little later today was really heartening.
01:27It was a hard listen at points with these AFLW players dealing with the fallout of what is alleged to
01:35be bad behaviour by some of this men's side.
01:38And that really did come through from captain of the team Lucy McEvoy.
01:42It was this real sense of deep disappointment.
01:44She said it's so upsetting that this alleged bad behaviour of just a few players has really tarnished the reputation
01:50of the entire club.
01:52And of course it's cast an enormous dark shadow over what was supposed to be a historic weekend for the
01:59Swans football club.
02:00With this doubleheader taking place this weekend right here at the SCG with the AFLW Swans set to take to
02:06the field first followed up by the men's team.
02:09So it really was that sense of disappointment.
02:12And let's have a listen to what Lucy and her coach had to say.
02:15The actions of a small number of people have impacted a lot of people, especially the women in our football
02:21club and wider community.
02:22As a man who was brought up with strong morals and a strong sense of what is right and wrong,
02:27disappointing to stand here today and be talking about something like this.
02:31Growing up I was always taught that you treat everyone with respect and that respect is a fundamental pillar of
02:37how you live your life.
02:38There's no doubt that the club has taken a reputational hit this week and we'll do whatever we can as
02:44a club in both programs to make sure we build back the trust and respect of our members and fans
02:49and the community more broadly.
02:51And Molly, earlier today the club released a new statement regarding the police investigation.
02:56What was in that?
03:00They did, Joe.
03:01Now this comes off the back of the fact that there is just so many unanswered questions still in this
03:07case.
03:08What actually happened that night at the Pullman Hotel is still very unclear.
03:12And one of the rumours that has been swirling around throughout the media has been that there was more than
03:18just those five players in the room that night.
03:21The five players who have been suspended.
03:23Now at one point there was some reports that there may have been other staff or players there.
03:28Now the Swans AFL club has emphatically denied that.
03:31They've released a statement today in response to that, which I'll read now.
03:35The Sydney Swans can confirm that all investigations carried out by the club have consistently indicated that the only representatives
03:43of the club in the room central to the police investigation were the five players who have been stood down.
03:50They say we have every reason to consider the reports to the contrary are simply false.
03:56Now that follows on from at that earlier press conference this morning.
03:59Coach Dean Cox was fielding a lot of questions about maybe whether he was in the room when this all
04:06unfolded.
04:07But once again, he has emphatically denied that.
04:10So a little bit more detail from the Swans football club today, but still certainly plenty of unanswered questions in
04:16this case.
