00:00Moderna is the star of the day. The stock is nearly doubling here in the pre-market. It's up more
00:06than 90 percent and Merck is up about 9 percent.
00:10So there's an experimental mRNA-based vaccine from both Moderna and Merck, and it succeeded in preventing cancer from returning
00:19or spreading in high-risk melanoma patients.
00:22And so scientists are saying it paves the way for a potentially new life-extending treatment for thousands of people
00:28diagnosed with this deadly disease.
00:29This is like 8,000 people die a year. It's not a small matter.
00:35And so Moderna is hoping to have this cancer vaccine on the market next year.
00:40Now, questions still remain about the cost, the feasibility of trying to produce it to scale.
00:45The companies will need to prove that the vaccine works in other tumor types, too, not just melanoma.
00:50But this is a huge potential here.
00:52And again, it's a double-barrel therapy.
00:56It's not one Moderna thing or one Merck thing.
00:59It's the two together.
01:00Yeah, with the immunotherapy provided by Merck.
01:02Exactly.
01:03Exactly.
01:03Did I do okay there?
01:04You did great.
01:05I agree.
01:05Kind of like a doctor conversation.
01:06I don't know.
01:07I'm out of my league.
01:09But this is my league.
01:10Estee Lauder.
01:11Ticker symbol EL.
01:12Stock is up 12.5 percent.
01:14As of yesterday's close, it had been down almost 20 percent.
01:17So they own a bunch of beauty brands.
01:19Remember when it was just Estee Lauder?
01:20Just Estee Lauder.
01:21My grandmother's fragrance, her signature fragrance.
01:24Well, now they own MAC, Clinique, Smashbox, Joe Malone, you name it.
01:27They lost less money than expected last quarter.
01:30Net sales climbed more than 6 percent to $3.6 billion in the fiscal fourth quarter.
01:35Their turnaround is picking up steam.
01:37Skincare, big for them, up 9 percent.
01:40Fragrances continue to be big moneymakers, up 10 percent.
01:44Makeup sales bounced back a little bit, up 3 percent.
01:46But hair care, only up about 7 tenths of a percent.
01:50They've got to work on the hair care.
01:52They're continuing to guide for organic net sales growth of 3 to 5 percent in the coming year, led by
01:57fragrance and skin care.
01:58Let's not forget, too, they had like 10,000 job reductions.
02:02Some of that through attrition.
02:04So they said that also helped.
02:05All right.
02:05Very good.
02:06And Lazy Boy, the furniture company, down 17 percent.
02:12And as of yesterday's close, it had been up about 9.5 percent.
02:15It swung to a loss of more than $2 million last quarter.
02:18Sales fell 3 percent.
02:20The furniture maker also gave a sales forecast for the current quarter that was below estimates.
02:24It's warning that its near-term investments could pressure its margins.
02:28Things like investing in new stores, advertising, a digital transformation.
02:33I don't know what that means.
02:34I imagine it has something to do with AI and online.
02:37But Lazy Boy.
