In the early 20th century, Times Beach, Missouri, was a thriving destination for weekend travelers and Route 66 explorers. From its humble beginnings as a newspaper marketing stunt to a bustling municipality of over two thousand residents, it became a quintessential slice of Americana. However, a desperate attempt to solve a simple dust problem led to one of the most bizarre and devastating environmental disasters in United States history.
In this documentary, we explore how a local waste-oil hauler secretly mixed industrial dioxin into road spray, turning a peaceful community into a toxic wasteland. You will learn about the horrific consequences for the residents, the 1982 flood that sealed the town's fate, and the massive federal operation required to bury the remains of a city under a man-made hill.
