00:02The RTS link connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore has entered a critical testing
00:08phase as Malaysia and Singapore prepare a joint announcement on fares and the
00:13official launch date. Transport Minister Anthony Lok says the physical
00:18construction of both the RTS link station and the Bukit Chagar immigration
00:22complex is now complete. The project has moved into system integration tests, final
00:28checks and trial runs with Lok himself riding the train during a test run on
00:33Tuesday.
01:02In a major development, the federal government has approved a 60 million ringgit bridge
01:10project linking the Bukit Chagar station directly to the KTMB station at JB Central. Construction
01:17is expected to begin soon and take about 12 months, making it easier for commuter rail
01:22passengers to connect straight to the RTS link.
01:26Meanwhile, preparations are ramping up on the security front. About 640 border control officers
01:32will be stationed at the Bukit Chagar complex, with 400 trainees currently undergoing training
01:38in Sagamad. They are expected to begin a familiarization program at the new facility from October through
01:45December. As for when commuters can actually use the link, Lok says fare and launch date
01:50details will be announced jointly with his Singaporean counterpart, and not unilaterally by either
01:56side. The RTS link is designed to carry up to 10,000 passengers an hour in each direction,
02:03with daily ridership expected to hit 40,000 once it opens on January 1st, 2027.
