A strong high-pressure system is pushing showers up the east coast, bringing potentially over 20mm of rain to areas like the Sunshine Coast. Meanwhile, a cold front is making its way across the south coast of Western Australia and into South Australia, promising showers, patchy rain, and even thunderstorms for large parts of the region.

00:00Showers along the east coast and a front crossing the Bight.
00:02G'day from the Bureau.
00:03David here with your forecast for tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18.
00:08Let's take a look at the national map to start with.
00:10And there's two main features to keep an eye on here.
00:12This high over the southern Tasman Sea is pushing showers right up along the east coast.
00:17And this front, which is crossing the south coast of Western Australia
00:21and into South Australia during Tuesday,
00:23that's going to bring showers, patchy rain and some thunderstorms to large parts of
00:26particularly South Australia, but also Western New South Wales and Western Victoria during tomorrow.
00:32In the north, dry season continues with dry and mostly sunny conditions across most of the area.
00:39Let's take a look around the grounds now, starting with Queensland,
00:42where we'll see a ridge of high pressure extend along the east coast.
00:45It's bringing quite cool southeasterly winds and plenty of showers to the coast.
00:48More exposed parts like the Sunshine Coast and parts of the North Tropical Coast
00:53could see more than 20 millimetres of rain again tomorrow.
00:56We can also see in the far southwest some showers and possibly a thunderstorm
01:00about the very far southwest corner there, but in between plenty of dry and mostly sunny weather.
01:06For Brisbane, a shower or two coming in from the southeast and the top of 21 degrees.
01:11For New South Wales and the ACT, starting in the far west, we'll see showers and patchy rain
01:16and even a thunderstorm or two across the very far west of the state there.
01:20Five to 15 millimetres of rain possible broadly there.
01:24In the east, we'll see easterly winds pushing more showers ashore as well.
01:29And in between, about the western slopes, dry and partly cloudy,
01:32just one or two showers around in the afternoon.
01:35For Sydney, a shower or two and a top of 19.
01:38For Canberra, a shower or two as well and a top of 16.
01:43Down Victoria, it's starting to feel a little like spring with temperatures nudging 20 degrees
01:47in parts of central and eastern Victoria tomorrow.
01:50That's due to northerly winds bringing relatively warm air down from the interior.
01:54Those northerly winds will strengthen during the day tomorrow,
01:57so it'll be a bit breezy at times, particularly in the west.
01:59We'll see showers and patchy rain moving into western districts during the day,
02:03and then central districts at night, including for Melbourne.
02:06So Melbourne are top of 20 degrees, plenty of sunshine to start with,
02:09but then some of that rain reaching the city, perhaps late in the evening tomorrow,
02:14and quite a breezy day for Melbourne.
02:17Tasmania, we'll see the influence of that warm northerly flow as well,
02:21with quite mild temperatures.
02:22Showers as well about parts of the north coast and the east coast,
02:25where it will be quite cloudy, drier further south and west.
02:29Hobart, a top of 18 degrees and partly cloudy.
02:33For South Australia, bands of showers and patchy rain extending east ahead of the cold front.
02:39We'll see that cold front reach the west coast during the day,
02:41and then extend through to the Eyre Peninsula and Kangaroo Island later.
02:45When it gets there, it'll bring some heavier showers and possibly a thunderstorm or two as well.
02:50Thunderstorms also in the mix for the northeast pastoral districts of SA.
02:54For Adelaide, a top of 19 degrees and showers on the forecast,
02:57although Adelaide should see some lengthy dry spells during the day.
03:02For Western Australia, we'll see that front influence the south coast early in the day,
03:06bringing gusty winds and plenty of showers there.
03:08Those will ease later.
03:09As you head further north and inland and also along the west coast,
03:13generally dry and partly cloudy.
03:15Perth, a top of 19 degrees and cloudy skies there.
03:20For the top end, we'll see a few patchy showers around the red centre at first,
03:25including for Alice Springs, where there's a shower or two on the forecast there.
03:28As you head further north, of course, it gets hotter and generally drier.
03:31Darwin, a sunny top of 33 degrees.
03:33Just one or two showers about the northeastern top end otherwise.
