00:05with a rally at the Uno de Mayo Stadium, historically known as Vila Euclides, in South Bernardo do Campo.

00:24here in South Bernardo do Campo, his hometown.
00:28And the theme of today's event is bringing it back to where it all started.
00:34The reason for that is because we're in Vila Euclides Stadium, where during the height of
00:40the U.S.-backed military dictatorship in the 1970s, Lula led a series of wildcat strikes
00:47as president of the ABC Metallurgical Workers Union, delivering some of his most iconic speeches
00:54in this very stadium in 1979.
00:57Today, these strikes are remembered as one of the final nails in the coffin of the military
01:04dictatorship.
01:06This is the sixth time that Lula's running for president.
01:09If elected, it'll be his fourth term in office.
01:12No one's done that yet in Brazilian history.
01:15No one's served four terms.
01:17All of the other candidates from the PT are here on stage, kicking it off.
01:21And the stadium is just filled up with labor union activists, social movement activists.
01:26And I've talked to people who told me they were here in 1979, and they came back to support
01:31Lula because they remember him from those days.
01:34And so, with the election less than two months off, and the polls tightening, today is a sign
01:41of force by the base, working class base of the Workers' Party, the labor unions and social movements here
01:48in San Bernardo del Campo.
