03:09Tonight, a couple things going on.
03:10We're going to hit some of the news and tidbits from around the world of pro wrestling, and one of
03:14the things I love tonight is I have some questions from listeners that I want to address.
03:19I've been asked my input or my opinion on a couple things, so we'll throw that in there as well.
03:24Let's start the show with JBL talking on his podcast that he does about Brock Lesnar and referencing that he
03:32believes that Brock Lesnar is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time,
03:35even referencing him as the GOAT, and making reference to the fact that so often people have these debates about
03:42the greatest wrestlers of all time,
03:43and you don't always hear Brock's name come up in those conversations.
03:46JBL is somebody who's been in the ring with a lot of those other people who are considered at that
03:50level,
03:50and he made it clear that Brock is one of them.
03:54And if you think about it, one of the things that has come out in the last several years about
03:57Brock Lesnar is his propensity for being able to work with just about anybody.
04:01The knock on him was always his promo skills, but let's be honest, in the last couple years, his promos
04:06have been pretty solid as well.
04:08Him going off script sometimes, some people might get irritated by it, but I actually love that when he's put
04:13Cody over at SummerSlam,
04:14when he put Oba over this summer.
04:16Love the retirement angle, the original one at WrestleMania.
04:21Ending the streak, all these types of things, and his just reign of dominance in the ring.
04:25So few people have beaten Brock Lesnar in his pro wrestling career.
04:28It's a very elite status list of people.
04:32So the guy has to be, and I'll be honest, I haven't really thought about it.
04:36People have asked me all the time.
04:37As a matter of fact, one of the questions I was going to address tonight was, who is on my
04:41Mount Rushmore?
04:42I was asked that by Stacey, and I apologize, Stacey, I don't know any more than just the first name
04:47Stacey.
04:48He asked me about my greatest of all time, or my Mount Rushmore, and I don't know, because it's so
04:53hard.
04:53And I did see where some, I forget which show it was, I want to say, man, I apologize, I
05:01can't remember which show it was.
05:02It might have been the one with Maven, where they were talking about greatest of all times or something like
05:08that.
05:08And they said, maybe you need to do it by eras.
05:10Like, who's like the old school, is Bruno the old school guy?
05:14Is Hogan the guy from the 80s, or Flair, something like that?
05:17Somebody from the Attitude era, is that like a Bret Hart or Stone Cold?
05:20Then you get into Ruthless Aggression, John Cena, and you get into the modern era, and then you look at
05:26somebody like, you know, Roman Reigns or whatever.
05:29And it was a really interesting conversation.
05:30I think that might be a better way to look at it than a Mount Rushmore.
05:33Trying to compile all the stats and things in your brain and narrow it down to four guys that go
05:37into Mount Rushmore of pro wrestling is very, very difficult.
05:40Now, if you ask me who my four favorite wrestlers is, that's hard enough, much less being greatest.
05:45But my four favorite wrestlers, Sting is always at the top of my list, Shawn Michaels is always at the
05:50top of my list, Hulk Hogan is always at the top of my list.
05:52Because the three of them are who kept me wanting to watch professional wrestling.
05:56They were my be-all, end-all that kept me engaged in what I was watching.
06:01Going for a fourth of my favorites, which, man, I feel bad because no matter who I say, I'm going
06:06to be upsetting.
06:06You know, I'll be upsetting some of my buddies who we've talked about this before, but in all seriousness, if
06:12I had to pick a fourth person as one of my favorites, it might be Brock.
06:17To be perfectly honest with you, I still have the very first Brock Lesnar shirt that was ever released.
06:22I still wear it.
06:23Oddly, it still fits, which is crazy.
06:26As, you know, ah, man, I said that.
06:28I said Brock, but AJ Styles is at the top of my list, too.
06:31If anybody tunes into my show knows that.
06:33So I don't know, man.
06:33Maybe I got to have a top five for my favorites of all time.
06:36But, again, that doesn't make them automatically the best, greatest wrestlers of all time.
06:39So, I don't know.
06:40It really depends on who you are.
06:42I'm not going to complain about anybody's Mount Rushmore, no matter what it is.
06:45Maybe do a Mount Rushmore of jobbers.
06:47That would be cool.
06:48You know, you got to give it to Steve Lombardi at number one, Iron Mike Sharp number two, Brad Armstrong
06:53number three, and I don't know where you go from there.
06:56I wasn't really playing.
06:57Gilberg.
06:58I'll go with Gilberg as number four.
07:00From there, let's move on.
07:01And Dave Meltzer addressing the booking of this week's Dynamite episode where we had the Continental, or I'm sorry, the
07:09second entrant to the Casino Battle Royal match.
07:12That's the one it was actually in where it was Nick Wayne versus Speedball Mike Bailey versus MJF.
07:16And, of course, MJF was going to win the match because he's got his feud going on with Andrade, who
07:20won entrant number one.
07:22So, the question was, when Nick Wayne is scheduled to challenge for the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Championship against
07:28Bandito at Death Before Dishonor, why would you have him take the loss in this match instead of Speedball Mike
07:35Bailey?
07:35And Meltzer was like, that's because Mike Bailey's higher on the card, which Brian Alvarez countered with, but he's challenging
07:41for the Ring of Honor World Championship.
07:44And then the explanation was, Speedball's higher, that Tony Khan does not worry about, you know, detracting from the quality
07:52of the Ring of Honor title.
07:53Bandito has lost, lost in Mexico, things like that.
07:56Making it sound like Tony Khan doesn't really have this cohesive booking style across his different companies and programs and
08:03stuff.
08:03And I don't know if that's a good thing, because I'm kind of in agreement with Brian Alvarez.
08:07If you're going to have Nick Wayne challenge for the Ring of Honor Championship, one, if you want him to
08:11win it, he can't lose here.
08:13That's stupid booking.
08:15Two, if he's going to lose there, and you're doing this here, and then he loses there, it makes it
08:19look like the Ring of Honor Championship match was worthless.
08:21If you're just going to have him beat here, have somebody else challenge for the Ring of Honor World Championship.
08:26There's tons of talent.
08:27Have Brian Cage challenge for the Ring of Honor World Championship.
08:30He's somebody who's worthy of being a Ring of Honor champion.
08:34Have, you know, Lance Archer, who's somebody you're doing nothing with in AEW, who's a quality wrestler.
08:40I'm a fan of his going back years.
08:42He was TCW World Champion.
08:44For anybody who knows what TCW was, traditional championship wrestling, I would love to see that.
08:49But you don't have to put somebody like Nick Wayne in that position and then beat him on Dynamite.
08:53I agree with Alvarez.
08:54I think it was a terrible booking.
08:56From there, Chris Jericho in the news with Hulk Hogan.
08:59But strangely, if Hulk Hogan was making a claim right away, everybody would think it's BS.
09:04And I understand.
09:05I really do.
09:06Because Hogan's been full of BS many times throughout the years.
09:08But this is Chris Jericho saying that he got a phone call from Hogan.
09:12Apparently, they were on, like, speaking terms.
09:14And that Hogan told him he saw a lot of his NWO self in Jericho.
09:19And that Jericho was, like, in a way, like, was like a mirror of him.
09:23And was, like, taking the torch.
09:26Basically, he was passing the torch to Jericho.
09:28I don't know how much of that I buy.
09:30I don't think I care.
09:31I find it wildly entertaining, though.
09:33And I can see some of the comparisons.
09:35Jericho with the pain maker and stuff like that.
09:37Reinventing himself the way he does.
09:39And doing things the way Hogan reinvented himself with the NWO.
09:42I just find it very strange that this is the first time we're hearing about it.
09:46A little bit weird for me.
09:47Gotta give kudos to Bayley.
09:49As we all know, Bayley's had some interesting posts recently.
09:52But one post she put up today was wonderful, amazing, fantastic.
09:56Super proud of her.
09:57She has been asked by Gail Kim and by Natty Neidhart to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
10:03in honor of Rebel, AEW superstar.
10:06And she decided to take two buckets of ice water.
10:09Though the second one missed her quite a bit, it seemed.
10:12But I love that she, you know, spoke of Gail Kim.
10:15I love that she, you know, her first bucket, she nominated a whole lot of WWE talent.
10:21Uh, Maxine Dupree, um, Grayson Waller, uh, Carmella, which I thought was a cool one.
10:27Um, somebody else.
10:28I'm forgetting somebody else.
10:29Does she know?
10:29Oh, Roxanne Perez.
10:31And then her second bucket, she nominated a bunch of the girls that she works with on
10:35the indie scene, which I thought was wonderful.
10:36I really liked that.
10:37And I love that a WWE contracted currently today superstar is supporting an AEW contracted
10:43superstar who's dealing with something so serious.
10:45So it was very cool to see that.
10:47Kudos to Bailey for doing the right thing.
10:48Uh, please support ALS research and recovery.
10:51I, those who know me know I recently lost a friend of mine to a battle to ALS that came
10:55on very quickly.
10:56And in less than two years, he would, we lost him.
10:59And it's just, it's a terrible situation.
11:01Bailey actually loves, she explained it as something that attacks, uh, your brainstem,
11:06your, your spinal column and all that stuff.
11:07She really explained it.
11:08And it was, it was really wonderful.
11:10And for somebody like me who has had some personal connection to somebody who has been
11:14lost to this, I couldn't agree more.
11:16If there's anything you can do, please, my ALS, go online, make a donation, and let's
11:21try to find a cure for this thing.
11:22Um, from there, I'm going to address two questions that I got, uh, in the, the, the,
11:28uh, for wrestling sound offline.
11:31I love it when I get an opportunity to do this.
11:32So question number one comes from Tom, Tom.
11:35I don't know if that's supposed to be one name, like beating a drum, Native American type
11:39stuff, or if that's somebody being silly, but Tom, Tom asked me that he said he watched
11:44impact wrestling on Thursday night and he was very frustrated with the match between
11:47Nick Nemeth and Jeff Hardy.
11:49His comment, his question, I apologize is, do I feel that impact wrestling has done right
11:55by the world heavyweight championship?
11:56And I appreciate your, your, your question, Tom, Tom, I really do.
11:59And let's be honest, Nick Nemeth can still go.
12:02He really can.
12:03I get it.
12:03He's up there.
12:03I think, if I remember right, I think he's, um, guy, I want to say he's three or four years
12:07younger than me.
12:08I think he's 46 and Hardy is two years younger than me, but I haven't had my birthday yet.
12:12So he would be 48.
12:14So, you know, two guys in their late forties.
12:16Now here's the thing.
12:17Nemeth can go.
12:18Hardy, not as much anymore.
12:20Like it's almost getting frustratingly sad to see him trying to do what he did 25 years
12:27ago.
12:28Um, I understand why they did the match was to set up for the, you know, brothers versus
12:32brothers world tag team championship match.
12:34But why is your world champion going to be going to lockdown and challenging for the tag
12:38titles?
12:38Like, I don't enjoy that thought at all.
12:40And I don't want to see the Hardys in a cage match either at this stage of their careers.
12:44Matt Hardy was teasing about going back to WWE earlier today.
12:47Um, I think it's a better idea for them to start winding it down and think about what
12:51the next phase of their involvement in pro wrestling to be.
12:53There was conversation that Matt Hardy was asked to be an agent way back in WWE days.
12:57Maybe that's something he transitions into, but if they're going to stay, I feel like they
13:01need to stick with cinematic stuff that they can hide their weaknesses and accentuate their
13:05positives because this match, I'm with you, Tom, Tom.
13:08It was not a great match.
13:10Um, it was slow, it was plodding.
13:13It felt like they were wrestling in the mud sometimes.
13:14So I understand your frustration.
13:16I do.
13:17And when you look at the roster with people like Ricky Sosa on there and, uh, Mustafa Ali
13:22and people like that who are young and, and vibrant and full of energy and can really,
13:27you know, do a lot for the company.
13:29And you just lost Mike Santana, but let's just have a conversation about Mike Santana.
13:32Having to belt on him was a great idea.
13:33Joe Hendry was a great idea.
13:35Um, this right now, Nick Nemeth is like a placeholder till we figure out who the heck
13:39is going to be their next guy.
13:41Um, Trey Miguel is not a terrible option.
13:43Leon Slater, not a terrible option.
13:45Um, so, and on that show, if I remember correctly, Leon Slater is now in a situation where he's
13:50challenging Cedric Alexander for the, uh, X division championship.
13:53And if he loses his historic championship reign will be wiped out of the record books for
13:58all time, which is the stupidest stipulation I think I've ever heard in my life.
14:02You know, you can't erase history.
14:04It is what it is.
14:05It's not going to be recognized.
14:07Then what did you do with your title for over a year?
14:09It's so dumb, which also means Leon has to win the match.
14:13Otherwise he looks like a double punk and he should go away for a while.
14:16Maybe he's leaving for WWE and that's why they're doing it.
14:18I don't know.
14:20However, if he doesn't win, the only reason I could see him not winning here is if you're
14:25immediately going to make him the guy and put him in the world title picture.
14:29That's it.
14:30That is it.
14:30But it shouldn't have been to erase his reign from history.
14:33It should have been, you could never challenge for the X division championship again, because
14:36doing it for a mid card title, I'm okay with like, if you did it with the IC title or
14:40the
14:40United States championship, the X division, the AEW national championship, international
14:45championship, something like that makes sense.
14:47Because you could still go for the world title.
14:49I don't like downgrading, only upgrading.
14:52So not sure how I felt about that either.
14:54So I know that's a little bit off topic of the world championship, but you're, you're
14:57right in when you say they have not done the TNA world championship justice because they
15:01have not booked it correctly because they haven't cultivated anybody to take that championship.
15:05They really haven't.
15:06And the last comment for tonight, uh, this one is Mary Beth Olson, Mary Beth, thank you
15:12for your question.
15:13Her question is about MLW and I, I got this one tonight and she said, um, she saw the episode
15:19of MLW where Gallows and Anderson won the world tag team championship and that Baron Corbin
15:25was involved.
15:26How is this possible?
15:27Well, uh, we had a conversation a couple, a couple of weeks ago on the show, the episodes
15:32that you're seeing from MLW that are playing now were actually taped back in April.
15:36So Baron Corbin was still a contracted wrestler for MLW at the time, part of the world tag
15:41team champions.
15:41They filmed this quite a while ago.
15:43Gallows and Anderson won the championships back in April.
15:46It's just now that their playthrough time on their recording is finally coming to hitting
15:50their, their, their channel.
15:52Um, but no, I understand why it can cause some confusion, especially if you're not like
15:56following every day's like TV tapings and everything for every company and stuff like
16:01that, it makes a lot of sense why that could be confusing.
16:03Um, how cool would it be though, you know, to have a WWE contracted guy and MLW have
16:07the two companies doing something together, kind of like a triple a or like, uh, a couple
16:11of years ago, Nakamura went to pro wrestling, Noah and wrestled the great Muda when he was
16:15on his retirement tour and stuff like that.
16:17I think WWE would be wise to make more partnerships and more companies around the world.
16:22Uh, uh, I forget the name of it is like WXP or something like that.
16:27There's one that, uh, WrestleTalk News is, is sponsoring heavily that is in, uh, uh, India,
16:33I believe, or maybe it's South Africa.
16:34I can't remember.
16:35Um, but, uh, WXM, I think it is.
16:39Um, you should check that out.
16:40It's got Raj Desi is in there and stuff.
16:42Former Jinder Mahal.
16:43Um, partnering with companies like that, really bringing a, a, a variety to say, not the WWE
16:50network, cause we don't have that anymore, but we certainly have WWE's YouTube channel
16:54and things like that.
16:54You could put on specials where you do things with those people.
16:58Um, do a Netflix special with WWE, um, interviewers talking about these outside talents.
17:04I think it'd be a great idea, but no, to your original question.
17:07Um, the reason you're able to see that title change tonight is because it was recorded so
17:11long ago.
17:11It's frustrating.
17:12You know, April, you go May, June, July, August for four months later, we're just now
17:16putting an episode out shows you how infrequently they tape shows for the company.
17:19And maybe that's a cost cutting thing.
17:21You know, if you're, if you're court Bauer with MLW, who, by the way, if you didn't hear
17:25we mentioned on a previous episode is negotiating with Hessa Blanchard, keep an eye on that.
17:29Um, but when maybe court Bauer brings them in, it's all their matches for the next four
17:33months done in one night's taping so that he can cut down on travel costs and things
17:37like that.
17:37Smart move if that's the case.
17:39Um, but the problem is in 2026 with the spoilers out there and people reporting on everything,
17:43we find out about this stuff well in advance or something like the Baron Corbin situation
17:47where he signs a contract with WWE and now he's not even in that company anymore.
17:50And he never got a chance to put that match out there before people know that it's a
17:53pre-taped show.
17:54So a little bit crazy, but thank you everybody for your questions tonight.
17:58If you have questions, comments, concerns, please, by all means, as I said earlier, at
18:01the onset of the show, call the four wrestling sound offline, two, six, seven, six, four to
18:051160.
18:05I would love to get to more questions and comments from the audience.
18:07I appreciate you guys so, so much.
18:10Um, but for now, that's all the time we have for this episode.
18:12Check back with us next episode, run down the latest wrestling news and rumors, special
18:15thanks as always to Suno for creating the music and sound effects I use in the show.
