03:03Tonight, diving into the conversation around Roman Reigns and the WWE Luchador Tournament
03:09that will be crowning Roman's opponent for the Raw Mexico City Show.
03:15Now, you would have thought at the beginning that the whole point of doing this,
03:19was to pop ticket sales and viewership for either Triple Mania or Worlds Collide.
03:26If you're looking at Triple Mania, they're trying to get TV execs and things to buy into.
03:32Giving AAA an American television show, having Roman Reigns there would have really helped do that.
03:37Some people are saying maybe we'll see CM Punk there.
03:40Don't know.
03:41Worlds Collide is going to be going head-to-head with All Out.
03:45So, you would think that's another opportunity for WWE to counter-program using Roman Reigns in a AAA opportunity.
03:52But neither one of those came to fruition.
03:54Instead, now there's people who still think CM Punk is going to show up in Chicago for Worlds Collide.
03:58That's possible, I guess.
03:59He did make a joke online about, you know, it wouldn't be the first time he wore a mask.
04:03But the Roman Reigns thing, this is going to be on Raw.
04:06So, that was the first thing.
04:08So, Rey announces it online.
04:10It's very exciting to see that they're going to do something unique with the Luchadors and then leading that into
04:14Roman Reigns.
04:15The problem I have is that nobody in their right mind thinks that Roman's going to lose the championship to
04:20whoever wins this tournament,
04:21or to anybody else in WWE, for that matter, until WrestleMania, where he'll probably lose it to Oba Femi.
04:27So, everything you do between now and then, you have to be careful what you do, because you don't want
04:32to bury talent.
04:33Okay?
04:33You want to get people over.
04:35Now, a couple things.
04:36One, the brackets came out.
04:38They came out earlier today, and the brackets are very interesting, if you ask me.
04:42One thing I noticed right away, there is no El Grande Americano in the tournament.
04:46That, to me, is a missed opportunity.
04:49He is over like Rover in Mexico.
04:51He is basically the face of AAA right now.
04:54How you don't have him, especially when you create this fictional character who supposedly is the greatest Luchador of all
05:00time,
05:01how do you create that character and not have him in the Luchador tournament to face Roman Reigns for a
05:06championship?
05:07Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
05:08That's just my interpretation of it.
05:11After that, I did notice something else, that the finals of the tournament could theoretically be the first time we
05:16get to see a legendary showdown.
05:19It's happened in other companies, and we're going to get into that,
05:21because I'm going to go through each matchup and explain to you what I'm talking about.
05:24The first matchup on the show, and the matches are going to take place on Raw.
05:28The first match we're going to see is Penta versus Laredo Kid.
05:32Now, look.
05:33Laredo Kid is a quality talent.
05:34Great kid.
05:36Super matches.
05:37He and Penta will probably put on a clinic, and I hope they do,
05:40and I hope WWE lets every one of these matches do what they can do.
05:43Um, but I don't think anybody in their right mind thinks that Penta's losing that match.
05:47Penta's going to beat Laredo Kid.
05:49After that, we get Psycho Clown versus La Parca, and because it's WWE, and because they're so heavily marketed,
05:56I truly believe that Psycho Clown is the more marketable character in the current setup of WWE.
06:03La Parca, you get those WCW vibes, old school.
06:06That's probably why he's in the tournament, to get that old school nostalgic feel about it,
06:11but I don't think he's going to beat Psycho Clown.
06:14If you were a fan of AAA, you'd know Psycho Clown has been one of the most pushed talents in
06:19their company for years,
06:20and their fan base would probably be very frustrated if they see La Parca win that match.
06:25So I'm expecting Psycho Clown to win.
06:27And then on the other side of the bracket, Dragon Lee taking on El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr.
06:33This is the one that actually bothers me, because El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. should win the match.
06:38He should.
06:39That's just my opinion.
06:40I think he is a AAA mega championship level caliber talent.
06:46He's been around a very long time.
06:47He's done so much on the indies, AAA.
06:50He's been on Lucha Underground, all that kind of stuff.
06:52I think this would be a great coming out party for him.
06:55But for whatever reason, WWE doesn't do that.
06:57They push their own guys, and Dragon Lee being his opponent, they're going to push Dragon Lee,
07:01so Dragon Lee's going to win that match.
07:02And it's actually going to tie into the next match, is why Dragon Lee's going to win the match.
07:06Because the last pairing is El Fiscal versus Ray Phoenix.
07:10Now, I'm not hugely experienced in El Fiscal's matches.
07:15I had to go look up everything about the guy, because as much as I love wrestling, I don't memorize
07:19everybody.
07:20He's been wrestling for four years.
07:22Started in 2022.
07:23Still a young kid.
07:24Solid Luchador.
07:26Does some good stuff.
07:27But he's not beating Ray Phoenix, especially since Ray Phoenix carries gold in that company right now.
07:32So Ray Phoenix is going to win that match and face Dragon Lee.
07:35WWE, in a AAA Luchadores thing, is going to have their guys win three of the four matches heading out
07:43of the show.
07:44So you're going to have Dragon Lee, let's go to this match, of Dragon Lee versus Phoenix, which I firmly
07:49expect Phoenix to win.
07:51Phoenix will go to the finals to face the winner of Psycho Clown and Penta.
07:55And I don't see Penta losing to anybody right now, because he just lost the Intercontinental Championship,
08:00and he's over as anybody in the company, and I think you have to give him the win.
08:05Which means, going back to my original statement, we are going to see, for the first time in a WWE
08:10ring,
08:11Penta versus Ray Phoenix, the Lucha Bros, reunited as opponents.
08:16Which I hope, somewhere down the line, leads to a reunion as a tag team.
08:20But if they do things right, if WWE knows what they're doing, especially coming off of the two El Grande
08:26Americanos facing off,
08:27let these two go at it.
08:29They have put on some legendary matches in the past.
08:32Obviously, nobody knows each other better than brothers.
08:35Let them do what they do best.
08:36These two are going to meet in the finals.
08:38Penta's probably going to win, and we're going to see Roman Reigns versus Penta on Raw.
08:42I love it, and hate it, all at the same time.
08:45I love Roman Reigns facing Penta.
08:47Especially if Roman Reigns allows Penta to look like a legitimate threat to the championship.
08:52However, I hate it, because there's no way in heck Penta's winning the championship.
08:56And I really want Penta to have that opportunity at some point in the future.
08:59I don't see that happening here.
09:01And this is part of the problem.
09:03And this leads into the next thing I want to get into.
09:05I'm not trying to fast-track away from the tournament.
09:07But Penta, and also other talents like L.A. Knight, like Kevin Owens, like Sami Zayn.
09:14These are guys who right now, because you have the top spots monopolized by people like Roman Reigns, CM Punk,
09:21Cody Rhodes,
09:22they aren't going to get their chance to walk with the belt.
09:25No one's taking anything from Roman till Mania, where Oba's going to do it.
09:29What sense would it make to take the championship off Roman to just give it back to him so he
09:34could have that big match in Saudi?
09:36And that's really what they're going to do.
09:37And the reason I say that is look at who's left.
09:40Apparently, The Rock is booked solid, so he's not going to do Rock and Roman at Saudi.
09:45John Cena is a man of his word.
09:47I believe that.
09:47He's not going to wrestle anymore, so he's not going to be at Saudi.
09:49You know, you've got, obviously, Taker's not coming back.
09:54AJ Styles isn't coming back for that.
09:56He would come back to do something with his son, but I don't think that's a Saudi Arabian WrestleMania moment.
10:02You know, what major megastar are you going to put on that card in Saudi Arabia to really get it
10:06over,
10:07knowing that the Saudis like to pay top dollar for talent?
10:09I don't see Stone Cold coming back by the time WrestleMania gets here.
10:13He'll be 62 years old.
10:15He'll be many years removed, four or five, I can't do the math in my head off the top of
10:18my head,
10:19four or five years since the Kevin Owens match.
10:21I mean, it has to be that long, because Kevin Owens has been out for a year and a half,
10:23you know?
10:24So I don't think Stone Cold's coming back to have a match, not at 62, because he's very concerned about
10:29what he looks like,
10:30how it doesn't tarnish anything, which it doesn't, by the way.
10:33So who's left?
10:34Who's that marquee guy who you're going to put up there?
10:37It has to be Oba and Roman.
10:39It probably is going to end up being Punk and Cody again, I would imagine.
10:43Or who else are you going to put in there with Punk?
10:45Is this where you finally coronate Braun Breaker?
10:48I don't know.
10:49I think Braun and Oba would not be a terrible idea.
10:52But again, there's just not enough big stars.
10:56So somebody like, you know, Penta getting this chance with Roman Reigns and then following it up at Money in
11:02the Bank,
11:03I'm fairly certain it's going to be LA Knight.
11:05You know he's not taking a championship anytime soon.
11:07They hot potatoed the WWE Championship over on SmackDown.
11:11So you know Kevin Owens isn't taking that championship.
11:14So you've got to be careful here and tread lightly because if you do this too often,
11:18people like KO, people like LA Knight, people like Penta.
11:24You're never going to look at them as world championship material.
11:26And I have a frustration that after SummerSlam, Triple H talked about, I'm going to use my terms,
11:32the monotonous constant booking of the same people at the top of the card
11:35and basically implied that if you want to be at the top of the card, you've got to get yourself
11:39over.
11:39You have to be given an opportunity.
11:41And given mid-card matches against mid-card talent is not going to get anybody over.
11:45A few months ago, maybe six, eight months ago, we all thought that Braun Breaker and Jacob Fatu was a
11:52future main event at WrestleMania.
11:53Maybe for Saudi Arabia.
11:55Now, Jacob is so cooled off, it's ridiculous.
11:59And obviously, he has to have another match with Roman, and he won't win that one either.
12:04So that's out.
12:05And then what do you do?
12:06You've got Braun Breaker.
12:07Who's Braun going after?
12:09He already wrestled CM Punk and lost, so it doesn't make sense to send him that direction.
12:12Are you going to send Braun after Roman?
12:15Well, no, because Braun's not going to take the belt from Roman unless you're going to do Braun and Oba.
12:20Which I think when they teased that at the house show in Europe, it was very exciting for the fans.
12:25But I don't foresee that being the main program going into WrestleMania season.
12:28So they've got to be careful here, because you're putting on some matches that matter.
12:32But you're also going to stagnate the quality of some of these talents if you do it that way.
12:39And that's problematic.
12:41And where I'm at right now, I'm outdoors.
12:43You can probably hear the cicadas chirping in the background, and the helicopter flew overhead.
12:46I apologize.
12:47But that being said, I still want to see the match.
12:51I want to see Panther Roman.
12:52I want to see LA Knight Roman.
12:53I just want to see them put over strong.
12:55I don't want to see them just...
12:56I don't want to see Roman conquer people constantly.
12:59I'm not over Roman.
13:01I heard what was said about Roman this week by Conrad Thompson.
13:05I don't agree.
13:06I don't think he's the most overrated WrestleMania main eventer of all time.
13:09I think the guy can wrestle.
13:11But much like Brock Lesnar, they don't want him to do certain things.
13:15And they only want him to do the things that he's really good at.
13:18And that's getting boring.
13:20I don't want it to.
13:21It just is.
13:22Speaking of Brock Lesnar, word is that the high-up executives at TKO expect Brock back for Saudi.
13:29They expect him back for WrestleMania.
13:31And I'm not surprised.
13:33You think about it.
13:34How much money would they be willing to pay Brock Lesnar?
13:36They're paying like $300 and some odd million for the Royal Rumble they had this year, WrestleMania next year.
13:41What is a couple more million for one match for Brock to come back?
13:45And what is the storyline?
13:46It's real simple.
13:47Brock and Gunther.
13:48You want to put a marquee match on the card?
13:50Brock and Gunther.
13:51That's my opinion.
13:54And the report came out this week that that's been nixed twice.
13:58Apparently, the WrestleMania one when the allegations from Janelle Grant came out was not the first time that had come
14:02up.
14:03It came up previously and nixed the first time.
14:05Then they nixed the second time because of the lawsuit.
14:07Maybe this is when we'll finally get it, especially if the Grant stuff is wrapped up.
14:10Plus, they're doing the Hall of Fame over in Saudi.
14:14I think Brock is a good one to put into the Hall of Fame while you're in Saudi Arabia.
14:17Probably a good time to put in Vince McMahon, too, if his stuff is all cleared up.
14:21I don't know that they'll do two big names like that.
14:23But if there was ever going to be a time to do it, that would be the year to do
14:26it.
14:26So I suspect that might be the case.
14:29But I was listening to James Romero and Stevie Richards talking about LA Knight, and I feel the same way.
14:34They were talking about, you know, trying to be careful with his character because you're going to make it so
14:38he's just unbelievable.
14:39Like, he's never going to reach that level.
14:41And it makes no sense to take the championship off Roman and put it on LA Knight.
14:44It makes no sense to take the championship off of Punk and put it on Kevin Owens.
14:47And it certainly makes no sense to take it off Roman and put it on Penta right now.
14:50Still loving to see the match.
14:52Speaking of the Royal Rumble, the conversation has begun about two-night Royal Rumbles, men's on one night, women's on
14:58the second night, or vice versa.
15:00I don't know how I feel about that because Royal Rumble is a long match to begin with, and they
15:04don't typically fill up the card with a lot of other things.
15:07However, the one exciting thing about doing two-night Royal Rumble, if you put four other matches on the card
15:13both nights, that's more talent getting an opportunity to be out there.
15:16And you could combine AAA, NXT, WWE Raw, WWE SmackDown, heaven forbid they ever do purchase a Japanese company like
15:24AJ Styles wants them to do.
15:26But it sounds like they're talking about two nights.
15:28Now, I know that the conversation about 2027, I believe, is in Indianapolis.
15:34Maybe that's where you start it.
15:35I don't know.
15:35We'll have to wait and see.
15:36But very exciting stuff if they stack the cards.
15:40If not, if it's like two matches and then a Rumble, that'll be annoying.
15:44If I were fans, I would not pay to see that.
15:46I'm not going to pay to see three matches in a night and go home.
15:48Two Rumbles in a night, I'd see.
15:51Three matches, two of them being regular matches, one Rumble, not worth the ticket price.
15:55Not the way they're charging ticket prices right now.
15:57It just doesn't make sense to me.
15:59One last WWE thing for today, and then we'll get to an AEW thing.
16:04Patrick Dooley, basically the number two guy with Triple H, has been terminated.
16:09He was a guy who handled international deals, television rights deals.
16:12He got Triple H, their television deal, down in Mexico.
16:16He's instrumental in several big, high-profile transactions the last several years.
16:21And somebody that Triple H has very heavily leaned on, and he's been let go.
16:26And the word is, is this kind of caught Triple H by surprise, caught a lot of people by surprise.
16:30And the decision was not a Triple H decision.
16:33This is an Ari Emanuel or like a Mark Shapiro level decision.
16:36And that's got to be concerning for Triple H, that they just let people go whenever they see fit.
16:42And this isn't like a talent thing.
16:44This is just an outright termination and no real explanation given.
16:48So, and it's not like they've announced anybody replacing him in the position he was working.
16:52Like, I think he was like the president of global strategy or something like that.
16:57So, kind of shocking.
16:58But if you're Triple H, you've got to wonder, like, you know, how safe is my spot here as the
17:04creative lead in the company, you know?
17:07People just, I don't understand TKO sometimes.
17:10I really don't.
17:11And then the last bit for tonight, switching gears a little bit because the show's been very WWE heavy.
17:16But got to touch on something that came across the news feed that was, for me, a little distressing.
17:21Jim Ross, longtime announcer, originally in Mid-South Wrestling, the UWF, WCW, WWE, AEW now.
17:30His contract runs out at the end of the month, and this is it.
17:33He's basically made it clear he's not, he doesn't think he's getting another contract.
17:38He doesn't think it makes sense for Tony Khan to pay him for everything he does.
17:42He's having surgery this Wednesday, brain surgery, and I apologize because I'm not a brain doctor.
17:47I'm not even going to try to explain what he's having done.
17:50I believe they said it was a shunt, but I don't even, I don't know how all that works.
17:53I'm not a brain guy.
17:54But prayers and well wishes to Jim Ross, who made it clear that this, you know, he's had such a
17:59great career.
18:00He's done so much that this is probably it.
18:02And if it is indeed the end of Jim Ross's, you know, announcing career and time actively in the professional
18:08wrestling world,
18:09then, you know, what a career he has had.
18:10What an awesome, awesome contributor to the business.
18:15I'm still kind of hoping it's not.
18:18I understand some of his performances in recent years haven't been legendary Jim Ross performances, but I don't care.
18:24I really don't care.
18:25I love the nostalgia of seeing him.
18:27So I'd love to see him stay on in his role.
18:29But if this is indeed the end, then, you know, best of luck in his future endeavors, like WWE used
18:33to say.
18:34And hopefully he'll keep doing his Grilling with JR podcast, which is wonderfully successful.
18:40And maybe that's what he can do and maybe do some cons here and there and things like that.
18:43It'd be great to meet the guy at some point.
