00:00Friends, colleagues and politicians paid tribute to British sociologist and Professor Jason
00:05Eddy following his death days after he stepped down from Cambridge amid intense scrutiny
00:11over plagiarism allegations. Both the British Prime Minister and the Cambridge University
00:16wrote heartfelt condolences to the 41-year-old who was found unresponsive inside a home in
00:21South London on Friday. Continued stories run across the full political spectrum of our media
00:32after his resignation in circumstances where his friends were warning, publicly warning,
00:41media outlets of how vulnerable he is, is very hard for me to understand. And I think that if the
00:50press had been a little bit more compassionate, Dr. Arday would still be in the bosom of his
00:56family today. And as you can hear, I am very, very distressed about it.
01:01I actually had dinner with him on Monday and part of that was we tried to get together and support
01:06him. I never knew Jason Arday that well, but he came to me a year ago because this has been
01:11going
01:11on to him for three and a half years. As soon as he became professor at Cambridge, there were those
01:16people who didn't believe that there should be a black person in that role.
01:18Arday was 37 when he became Cambridge's youngest black professor in 2023. He resigned after he came
01:25under intense media pressure with weeks of allegations about plagiarism in his academic
01:29work. He denied plagiarism but admitted to some mistake when working on his doctorate.
