Situated near Pantai Lima in Pererenan is a beautiful 3 bedroom villa called Rumah Simba. It was initially designed as a private family home. The owners, who are both fashion designers, have done such a fantastic job in designing the space. They have made use of their good taste in design to create their own private villa project. While Bali has many Mediterranean style villas, Rumah Simba combines this with a unique touch of Japanese style to it.

The entrance is a unique dome-shaped sliding door. Once it’s open, you’ll be greeted by a big Buddha head statue, a waterfall, and stepping stones leading you into the doorway. The interior of Rumah Simba is mostly white. When the sunlight reflects on the walls, it creates the perfect, dreamy ambience. On the ground floor sits an open plan kitchen, dining and living space, as well as a Japanese style master bedroom. Shoji doors, which in Japanese means ‘sliding doors consisting of wooden frames covered with sheets of translucent paper’, can be seen upon entering the villa. The owner wanted a Mediterranean style villa, but he also wanted to incorporate a little bit of Japanese style to it.

00:18Hi Bali interiors, my name is Thijs. Together with Bali Oasis Projects we
00:23created Urma Simba and you're very very welcome to have a peek in paradise.
00:33So the first thing you'll notice when you're in Urma Simba is this uniquely shaped big wooden
00:38door and when you come inside there's like a waterfall dripping, there's this friendly
00:44Buddha greeting you and it gives this kind of nice peaceful vibe and when you reach over
00:50this stepping stones.
00:56So here we are in the kitchen area.
00:59Yeah, the kitchen was really important for my wife, basically she wanted to have the fuel
01:04and a lot of light, all the equipment because she loves to cook.
01:08We have the hanging stairs there which is a statement stairs, it's a little bit long as
01:15you see the space that we needed to reach to build it and that's why we had to put the
01:20foundation basically in the steel bars on the side that you see there.
01:29Alright so we just arrived in the living room which is one of my favorite rooms to be fair.
01:34We have this nice statement limestone wall which reached up six meters up until the ceiling and
01:41this room has got a lot of light and a lot of air flow which we really like and a
01:47lot
01:47of nature features as well.
01:49We have this palm tree, some green up here and my brother's photograph up there, we printed
01:56it out super big, he's a nature photographer which I always really like it when there's
02:01some personal things in the house as well.
02:03And we have this furniture as well, we really are movie people and yeah that needs to be
02:09like a good experience.
02:11So we wanted to create this thing to get really into the Game of Thrones when you're watching
02:17it and ready to watch it.
02:29So here we have the master bedroom which is in a Japanese style.
02:34In the beginning we actually created the house completely in the Japanese style but during
02:41the process we changed it to like a fusion of Mediterranean, modern and Japanese.
02:49All right, we arrived in the Japanese bedroom.
02:52In here we have like a painting that I once got somewhere in Malaysia.
02:58I took it here, I always bring it to every home that I'm staying in and that's something
03:03that makes it really homey for me.
03:05And it also suits this Japanese bedroom I guess.
03:09And we've got some light wood with teak panels and yeah the sliding door as you saw before.
03:16And then we have this rotten wardrobe which actually looks like kind of like a hidden door
03:21but it is a wardrobe.
03:23Yeah, the most important thing about the master bedroom is actually that you have direct access
03:27to the pool and a few when you wake up.
03:34Now let me show you the bathroom.
03:40And here we have the Japanese bathroom.
03:42We created this bathtub ourselves.
03:44It's basically some terrazzo on the inside and artistic cement on the outside.
03:48What is special about this room is we really wanted to create peace.
03:54So basically we choose the colors carefully like light gray with black and some wood for
04:00some warmth.
04:01But also we really wanted to keep it rough with some nature like just a Japanese plant which
04:08is actually Balinese and there are some rough stones and natural stones in the back as well.
04:19For the sanitary we used Paloma as we really wanted to have this good durable sanitary and that
04:28can avoid a lot of problems also because it's your own house you're living in.
04:33You really want to have good sanitary that lasts long and it's just durable.
04:42All right, now let me show you upstairs.
04:48All right, so here we arrived in the more of the Mediterranean part of the house.
04:53This is the first bedroom.
04:55All right, so as you see there's a lot of Mediterranean features in here like the bow shape
05:00which I really like and makes the room bigger together with the ensuite bathroom.
05:05Some flowy linens and yeah some wood to make it a little bit more cozy again.
05:10A rough marble sink, minimalistic bathroom and golden sanitary to kind of like fit in the real
05:19Mediterranean. So what is important for us was we really wanted every room to direction of the rice
05:33fields and as well as the bathrooms we tried to create a vibe where you can just sit in the
05:39bathroom
05:39and enjoy the views. So for example we have this small little feature in here where you can move the
05:45wooden rack
05:49and enjoy the rice field views from the bathtub
05:56or not. So this is the second bedroom in Mediterranean style. Let me show you the bedroom.
06:06All right, so this is actually like my wife's bedroom. She's staying here. I'm staying downstairs
06:10and yeah she did pretty well to be fair. She mixed some nice light colors with light teak wood and
06:18light bone color wall.
06:21You also have access to the to the outside area which is here so you can directly relax and we
06:28also have
06:28this ensuite bathroom with the bow shape and the linens again.
06:39All right, now let me show you the ensuite bathroom.
06:43So this is actually one of my favorite rooms of the house. So we kind of like wanted to create
06:49like a spa kind of feeling
06:51you can relax in the bathtub and we wanted to have a minimalistic
06:55a few for the sink as well as for the bathtub over here. And you can see we have a
07:02touch of rose gold
07:03which obviously my wife chose. And the texture on the wall is something to mention I guess. It makes it
07:09like
07:10gives it a little warm feeling and actually kind of hard to make it. It took us a few times
07:15to get it right.
07:17And yeah, we have this spot for the sunlight to come in which is nice when you're showering
07:23and you can still enjoy the view to the outside as well.
07:32All right, let me just show you the outside area. So here we are in the pool area. We really
07:39wanted to make
07:40like a very big pool that you can have some laps in but as well with the slope on the
07:45pool so you can
07:46lay a little bit in the sun and also half in the water which we really like. We wanted to
07:51have a space for the
07:52kids to play which is why we created a bit of the garden as well. So me and my wife
07:57are actually
07:57fashion designers and we really wanted to make this area a little bit Instagrammable for photo
08:03shoots. So that's why we have the cement polished walls. We have the round circle shape where you can
08:10lay around and have a picture with the rice field views in the back.
08:26So in here we have a full marble pool and we have recreated this jacuzzi with cement polish on the
08:33top.
08:34Actually for this spot it is the same. We really wanted to create an Instagrammable spot. So if
08:40you're a model or whatever you can sit up here. You have the view on the back, the rice paddies
08:45over
08:46there and we made a nice fire pit that we created ourselves. I'm kind of proud of that and you
08:53can
08:53put on the fire pit and the waterfalls dripping as well. So that's really nice with your family when
09:00you're in the night to enjoy the campfire like that. Thank you Bali Interiors for having a peek
09:10in our paradise and we were absolutely honored to have you here and I hope you enjoyed it.
