00:00:33Субтитры сделал DimaTorzok
00:01:00He actually put on a performance and it was really good to see
00:01:05Marshall Lloyd is in the backfield for Jordan Love
00:01:09signed that big contract a couple of years ago and
00:01:13he's one of those guys who you know that he's in the game when he's in there.
00:01:16He makes things happen and it's a good run there by Marshawn Lloyd.
00:01:20And now Steeler fans, we want to know where are you watching this game tonight?
00:01:24You can scan this QR code on your screen and let us know.
00:01:26The social media posts are presented by South College, proud partner of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:01:35Second out after a pretty good first down game there.
00:01:38And, you know, the Green Bay Packers have gone through some changes in their wide receiving core.
00:01:42Christian Watson is one of those guys who've been here for a long time.
00:01:45And there's a pass intended for Watson.
00:01:47Goes incomplete.
00:01:49Asante Samuel Jr. is on coverage there.
00:01:52You can see Asante Samuel, this is a guy who's benefited from the absence of Joey Porter Jr. here.
00:01:56And he's been putting on a solid camp.
00:01:58He's been in the league for a while now.
00:02:04All right, now let's take a look at our Ford Impact players tonight.
00:02:07These are guys we expect to make an impact.
00:02:08Will Howard, Drew Aller, of course those two quarterbacks along with Peyton Wilson.
00:02:12He's coming in to his own in the third season.
00:02:14And the rookie is Daylon Everett.
00:02:16And, boy, he's been impressive in training camp.
00:02:18So, here we go now.
00:02:19A big third down play.
00:02:21And four for Green Bay.
00:02:22Love in the shotgun.
00:02:24Over the middle of the field has his man.
00:02:26And that's going to be first down and more for Jaden Reed.
00:02:3019 yards on the game.
00:02:32And Reed is one of those guys that they expect big things from.
00:02:35Former second round pick three years ago.
00:02:38You can see just inside leverage with beat right on the inside.
00:02:41Nice throw by Love on the breaking route inside.
00:02:44Not much you can do there where you're playing man-to-man coverage.
00:02:47Not much of a pressure there.
00:02:49Nice pickup for Green Bay.
00:02:52Steelers with new coaching staff all together.
00:02:54And throughout this broadcast tonight, we will talk about some of those positions
00:02:57and people that Mike McCarthy has brought in.
00:02:59Lloyd, once again, this time trying to cut back.
00:03:01Just gets a couple of yards.
00:03:03And the Steelers are there to get him.
00:03:04Peyton Wilson in the middle of that.
00:03:06Wilson, man, Charlie, he's a guy who's looked really good.
00:03:08And maybe an opportunity here for him to have a breakthrough season big time.
00:03:12And that's what they're hoping for.
00:03:13This guy, he had 73 tackles last year.
00:03:15Two sacks, one interception.
00:03:17This guy is as fast as any linebacker in the league.
00:03:20And they want to see those guys up front control the double team
00:03:22to allow him to run to the football for those tackles for loss.
00:03:26Rayshon Jenkins also was brought here just about a week into the training camp season
00:03:32replacing Darnell Savage.
00:03:34He's in the field right now, number 31.
00:03:36Second and nine after the one-yard gain.
00:03:38Love in the shotgun.
00:03:41In the flat, it goes to Josh Wiley.
00:03:43Doesn't have much there.
00:03:44Good defense for the Steelers.
00:03:46And that's Robert Spears Jennings, who was the seventh-round pick this year
00:03:50and a guy who, out of Oklahoma, looking to make a spot for himself
00:03:53on this very talented defensive backfield.
00:03:56There he is.
00:03:57And one thing that you see, both teams are going to want to throw
00:03:59two to tight ends right there, Josh Wiley.
00:04:02Fourth year out of Cincinnati.
00:04:03But you see Jennings covering on that plate.
00:04:06Young guy.
00:04:07They want to see him out here.
00:04:08That's why he got the start here today.
00:04:09Wiley, tight end in there, along with Watson, Golden, and Jaden Reed
00:04:14for Jordan Love.
00:04:17Good defense by the Steelers again.
00:04:19Lloyd in the flat over there.
00:04:21Couldn't get away from the Steelers.
00:04:22And that's going to set up a third down situation.
00:04:27Daniko Slaughter.
00:04:29And he was an undrafted player from Jacksonville the Steelers picked up
00:04:32out of the University of Arkansas.
00:04:34He was right there fighting off Christian Watson to get it done.
00:04:37He was.
00:04:37He read that screen right away, was able to hold off the receivers
00:04:39he was trying to block, and was able to force the tackle there.
00:04:42He started 13 games at Arkansas, and they want to see what he's capable of doing.
00:04:47He's an undrafted guy out of Jacksonville last year, and here he is with the Steelers.
00:04:51All right.
00:04:52So, right off the bat, we're going to get Trey Smack in the game.
00:04:54He's their kicker, trying this from 58 yards.
00:04:57And Smack has a good leg.
00:04:58We saw him in the pre-game warm-ups.
00:05:00He was hitting them from 60 and beyond.
00:05:03Snap is good.
00:05:03The kick is up.
00:05:05And plenty of leg.
00:05:06And it is good.
00:05:07And that's a 58-yarder to start this game, and there is a penalty flag
00:05:11down on the play, and we'll see what that is.
00:05:16As our referee tonight is Brad Rogers.
00:05:22Looks to be on the Steelers as they're walking toward Mountain Floor.
00:05:2658 yards, man.
00:05:27We saw some kicking last year as well.
00:05:30Cam Little down in Jackson.
00:05:31Remember him?
00:05:3270 yards.
00:05:33Roughing the snapper.
00:05:34Defense number 98.
00:05:3615-yard penalty.
00:05:37Automatic.
00:05:38First down.
00:05:42All right.
00:05:42So, that's Dean Lowery who was roughing the snapper.
00:05:46You don't see that too often.
00:05:49And let's check it out here on the replay as Mike McCarthy looks at the big board as well.
00:05:55And the league has done a nice job of trying to protect the snapper.
00:05:59You can see Lowery right there.
00:06:01Referee in position, calls it immediately.
00:06:03That's something Mike McCarthy you know he's not excited about because you go from three
00:06:06points now, give him a new set of downs, and that's not what you want defensively.
00:06:10That's one of the things they've been clamping down on here, some of these rules that they've
00:06:16had.
00:06:16And they want to make sure in the preseason that some of the calls are made.
00:06:20And that was one of them that we saw stress.
00:06:22Marshawn Lloyd, once again, gets a couple of yards right there.
00:06:25So, three points off the board.
00:06:27But still, if you're smack, pretty good first impression in the preseason.
00:06:3158 yards away.
00:06:32Alex Highsmith was there for the Steelers.
00:06:35This is one of the things he does well.
00:06:36He sets the edge on the outside.
00:06:38He's in position, forces the cutback.
00:06:40He's able to make the tackle.
00:06:43He finished last year with nine and a half sacks in 13 games.
00:06:46So, this is something that he's going to want to continue to work on, especially when
00:06:50you add T.J. Watt on the other side, along with Nick Herbig on his contract extension.
00:06:54Yeah, and I think Patrick Graham, the new D.C., is going to be very interested in using
00:06:57these guys all over the place.
00:06:58And hopefully, we'll see a lot of that during the regular season.
00:07:01That's Sabian Williams in motion.
00:07:03Handoff.
00:07:04Up the middle.
00:07:05That's going to Marshawn Lloyd once again.
00:07:07He was their third-round pick a couple of years ago out of USC.
00:07:13Set up a third down and three.
00:07:17And the Steelers have been working a lot on third down, making sure they get off the
00:07:21field.
00:07:21That was something that Mike McCarthy, along with defensive coordinator Patrick
00:07:24Graham, working and using that as a point of emphasis to say, this right here has to
00:07:29be the down that we get off the field.
00:07:31Let's see if it transitions here today.
00:07:33Y.A. Black, you saw him number 94.
00:07:35He's a guy who is occupying people in the middle.
00:07:39They have him at nose tackle.
00:07:40He didn't play all that much there last year, but now they're going to use him there,
00:07:43it appears, as they move Benton to the outside more.
00:07:45And this is Love on third and three, firing.
00:07:48And a good defensive player once again, intended for Jaden Reed.
00:07:51And it's Asante Samuel, Jr., who has really been matching up with D.K. Metcalf in camp.
00:07:56And that's been a great battle to watch.
00:07:58And he's had an outstanding camp.
00:07:59Absolutely.
00:08:00He re-signed here in March.
00:08:01And six tackles last year, one interception.
00:08:04In position to make this play, understanding, hey, we're looking for the fade on the inside.
00:08:10They work a lot on that, able to get that right hand, knock it out.
00:08:14You can see the excitement by Samuels.
00:08:16Yeah, beautiful play there.
00:08:17He's been doing that all along.
00:08:18And boy, what a comeback he's made from neck surgery that he had.
00:08:21All right, and this is going to be Trey Smack, this time from 37 yards.
00:08:24He was the sixth-round pick this year, so they have high hopes for him.
00:08:28And he nails that one after hitting from 58.
00:08:31Moved closer to 37.
00:08:32And the first points on the board.
00:08:34Go to Green Bay.
00:08:353-0 with the Steelers coming back with football on offense for the very first time.
00:08:48The years, they average one every 19 years.
00:08:50Well, most of the league is recycling guys left and right.
00:08:53That is it.
00:08:53When I have a chance to talk to him, of course, we talk all things Pittsburgh.
00:08:56And he's only five minutes from my hometown of Homestead.
00:08:59All right.
00:09:00Trey Smack with a kickoff.
00:09:01And this is Caden Weijen, one of their draft picks out of Iowa.
00:09:05Flags everywhere on this play.
00:09:07Eli Heidenreich was also back there.
00:09:09We're going to see him a little bit tonight.
00:09:10But Weijen's a guy who had all sorts of success numbers in the return game at Iowa.
00:09:15That's a 26-yard return.
00:09:21Once again, the referee tonight is Brad Rogers.
00:09:24We'll see what he has to say.
00:09:28Anxious to watch this offensive line, Charlie,
00:09:32because they've got guys who've switched from right side to left side
00:09:35with McCormick and Fatanu.
00:09:37Frazier's just a tremendous center right now.
00:09:39There are two fouls on the play by the return team, holding number 55.
00:09:43It's a 10-yard penalty from the spot of the foul.
00:09:46Holding number 44.
00:09:47That penalty's declined.
00:09:48First down.
00:09:51All right.
00:09:51So Steelers move backwards a little bit.
00:09:53You're going to see Jalen Warren in there.
00:09:55A guy who did not fumble all of last year.
00:09:57One of the things that Mike McCarthy has with his Steelers.
00:10:00Six ball securities at the top of the list.
00:10:02Roman Wilson in the game as well.
00:10:03And Mason Rudolph is your quarterback.
00:10:05Third-round pick back in 2018.
00:10:09And Mason is, as I told you before, Charlie,
00:10:11one of these insurance policies as a backup to Aaron Rodgers.
00:10:14And people, they recognize him around ninth year in the league,
00:10:18eight years here with the Steelers.
00:10:19And he has the opportunity to run the first-team offense.
00:10:21And let's see how he progresses here as the game goes on.
00:10:25How about a fullback with an I formation?
00:10:27Riley Nowakowski was the guy.
00:10:29And he was rocking for Travis Homer.
00:10:32And this is an interesting player here because he does such good work in special teams.
00:10:37That's his strength.
00:10:39But he's also competing for a running back slot here as well.
00:10:42And Travis Homer is a guy that really has taken advantage of all of the opportunities
00:10:45that he's had throughout.
00:10:47He's an eighth-year guy out of University of Miami, 85 regular season games.
00:10:52He knows how to get it done.
00:10:53And he wants to contribute more than just special teams.
00:10:55Homer remains in the game here out of Miami, Florida.
00:10:58He was the sixth-round pick of Seattle back in 2019.
00:11:00And he has made his way through with special teams work.
00:11:04Pressure.
00:11:04And they get to Mason Rudolph.
00:11:06He is down.
00:11:07And that's going to be a loss on the play.
00:11:16And so now the Steelers go back even more after those holding penalties.
00:11:23Baron Sorrell was putting the pressure on.
00:11:25And eventually it was Lucas Van Ness and others up front.
00:11:30He was brought down by Zaire Frazier.
00:11:32This guy has been in the league for a long time.
00:11:37Right now it's third and 14 for the Steelers.
00:11:40From their own 14-yard line, Green Bay with a 3-0 lead.
00:11:4337-yard field goal for Trey Smack on their first possession.
00:11:46Quick hitter.
00:11:47And it goes to Jeremy Bernard.
00:11:50And the rookie tries to cut back inside.
00:11:52Picks up some yardage, but not enough.
00:11:54And the Steelers are going to have to go three and out on their first possession.
00:11:58Bernard's a young guy who's really trying to move right in.
00:12:01He's in a battle with Roman Wilson in that slot position.
00:12:04And you can see Bernard, I mean, he's trying to pick up some yards to get you in better field
00:12:09position here.
00:12:09But he's a rookie out of Alabama, and he feels very high about Bernard.
00:12:13But that's not the drive that you want coming out of it yet.
00:12:16Penalty to start on special teams and not able to pick up the first down on your first drive.
00:12:21So I know Mike McCarthy is not happy about that drive.
00:12:23Sky Moore is out there to receive this spot by Cameron Johnston.
00:12:28Sky Moore, obviously a guy from this area, knows a lot about the Chittyside Academy.
00:12:32And now we have another flag on the far side of the field.
00:12:38This is after the play was over.
00:12:40Let's see what this is.
00:12:41But that was a 51-yard kick from Cameron Johnston, who was back here before, and now his second door
00:12:49of duty.
00:12:53Sky Moore is a very interesting story for sure.
00:12:56After the play, personal foul, unnecessary roughness, number 15 of the kicking team.
00:13:0215-yard penalty, first down, timeout.
00:13:06So we have a lot of penalties so far early in this game.
00:13:08This one on Ben Skoranik.
00:13:10When we come back, Green Bay with their second possession of the game.
00:13:24I've resulted in three points.
00:13:26Jordan Love is out of the game now.
00:13:28He went three for five for 18 yards.
00:13:29The Steelers have been penalized three times already for 40 yards.
00:13:34Tyrod Taylor now in the game.
00:13:35And two new tight ends for Green Bay.
00:13:38Taylor now moving to his left.
00:13:40Riring at pretty good coverage by the Steelers there.
00:13:42Alex Heisman is covering Marshawn Lloyd.
00:13:48Talking about Tyrod Taylor.
00:13:49He's been in the league now 16 years.
00:13:53Out of Virginia Tech.
00:13:55And here he is in Green Bay.
00:13:57You see the coverage there.
00:13:59Jamel Dean, another guy we expect.
00:14:00But, you know, because they have injuries.
00:14:03Jalen Ramsey's injured.
00:14:04Joey Porter has the back in dealing with the contract.
00:14:06These guys have got an opportunity to play him.
00:14:09He had a tremendous season at Tampa last year.
00:14:11He had three interceptions.
00:14:12And they gave him some nice money to be here.
00:14:14And it looks like a very deep secondary for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:14:17Savion Williams and Bo Melton now in offensively.
00:14:20Along with Sky Moore.
00:14:26Tyrod Taylor.
00:14:27Loads it down the sidelines.
00:14:30And once again it's Asante Samuel Jr.
00:14:32Covering Savion Williams.
00:14:33And there was no room there.
00:14:34He has been unbelievable.
00:14:35So over in the training camp.
00:14:37Originally drafted by the Chargers.
00:14:39And then he had that surgery.
00:14:41The spinal fusion surgery.
00:14:43Steelers took a chance to have him come back.
00:14:45And he's been great.
00:14:45And they were hoping that he bounced back from injury.
00:14:48He's showing no ill effects of that injury.
00:14:50And they are very pleased with the Samuels here.
00:14:53When you just look at just his career.
00:14:54He was the first ever player in NFL history to record three interceptions in the first half of a playoff
00:15:00game.
00:15:00He did that in the 2022 season against Jacksonville.
00:15:05All right.
00:15:06So here we go for the Green Bay.
00:15:08Now on third and ten.
00:15:09Sort of quick hitter.
00:15:10He's going to be short of the first down to Bo Melton than the Steelers.
00:15:13Along with linebackers.
00:15:16Mike Wilson.
00:15:17Along with Rashad Jenkins.
00:15:20Combined by Matt Tackle.
00:15:21And that's a nice three and out.
00:15:22So they will get it back.
00:15:27Then nice pressure there.
00:15:29Trying to get to the quarterback before the screen was actually out of his hands.
00:15:32Wasn't able to do so.
00:15:35But they like where Benton is at.
00:15:37He's battling YA Black.
00:15:38For that nose tackle position.
00:15:41All right.
00:15:41Daniel Whelan is in to punt the ball away.
00:15:44And again it's Caden Weechin back from Iowa.
00:15:47He was the fourth round pick this year.
00:15:48Two-time Big Ten Returner of the Year.
00:15:51And they're kicking this one over to the left side.
00:15:53He makes the catch with nowhere to go.
00:15:55Good coverage by the Green Bay Packers on that one.
00:15:59And Green Bay punts it away.
00:16:01It's 41 yards.
00:16:02And Nick Neiman was there to make that stop.
00:16:06On Weechin who.
00:16:07Was really outstanding in Iowa.
00:16:09And they want to see him more in that role.
00:16:11Along with Eli Heidenreich.
00:16:12We'll be back with the Steelers on offense.
00:16:24Mason Rudolph remains in the game.
00:16:27Fryer Muth.
00:16:28Darnell Washington in a tight end.
00:16:29You see Aaron Rodgers there.
00:16:31Along with Brian Angelico.
00:16:33The offensive coordinator.
00:16:35Rudolph now back catching.
00:16:37And there's pressure.
00:16:37It's coming quickly.
00:16:38And that didn't give many moments there.
00:16:41Because Brenton Cox Jr.
00:16:44Pushed back on that offensive line.
00:16:45He got to him before any plays could develop down the field.
00:16:48And Mason is trying to get rid of the ball quickly there.
00:16:50But the Packers second theory.
00:16:51They clamped down on cover.
00:16:53Nowhere to go with the football.
00:16:54As you're looking to find Fryer Muth there on an option route.
00:16:57Unfortunately wasn't there.
00:16:58Time expired.
00:17:00And you see Cox coming in right for the sack.
00:17:02And that's Dylan Cook who's at right tackle right now.
00:17:05We told you earlier Maxie Hanachor the number one pick is not playing in this game.
00:17:09So that's a loss of nine and a second and 19 on the second sack of the night for Green
00:17:14Bay.
00:17:15Rudolph.
00:17:18Shotgun.
00:17:19Over the middle has his man Jeremy Bernard.
00:17:22That gets back a lot of yardage there.
00:17:24And set up a third.
00:17:25And much better there.
00:17:27Mervyn Kenyon the third with the tackle.
00:17:30But Jeremy Bernard has come in here.
00:17:32And he spent all of his time.
00:17:35At Georgia.
00:17:37It was really a tremendous or Alabama.
00:17:39I'm sorry.
00:17:41And they're trying to find out that.
00:17:4264 catches last year.
00:17:43Yeah.
00:17:43And they're trying to find that number three receivers.
00:17:45He's battling with Roman Wilson to see who's going to be that starting slot.
00:17:49Roman Wilson has been good in this training camp too.
00:17:51They're looking for him to take a step forward after last year not being a factor at all.
00:17:55And now.
00:17:56Third down five.
00:17:58Rudolph over the middle.
00:17:59Fires has his man.
00:18:00And that's Ben Skoranek.
00:18:02Skoranek on the play.
00:18:03Gets a first down and much more.
00:18:05Mervyn Kenyon third.
00:18:06It's an 18-yard completion.
00:18:08And a Pittsburgh Steeler first down.
00:18:10And this is how you bounce back offensive line.
00:18:12You give up a sack early.
00:18:14But yet you're now able to protect for Mason Rudolph.
00:18:16He's able to find Skoranek on the inter route.
00:18:19Picking up a big first down.
00:18:20Ben Skoranek last year made the Pro Bowl as a special teamers.
00:18:24He caught last year's first touchdown pass.
00:18:25So he is looking to be more of a weapon here in this offense.
00:18:30And so far tonight he's been in there a lot making a difference.
00:18:32Hand off again goes to Travis Homer.
00:18:34Not much there.
00:18:42We're going to take a look at the citizens position room for wide receivers.
00:18:46You know about Metcalf and Pittman's going to be a big addition, Charlie.
00:18:49His first season at Pittsburgh, six for the Colts, where he averaged 85 per year.
00:18:53Roman Wilson, Skoranek, Germany, Bernard.
00:18:55A lot of talent there.
00:18:55There is, and you can see right there Roman Wilson, new offense, looking to build on his skill set.
00:19:00So he's trying to build on this offseason, I mean, on this preseason to keep Bernard on the sideline.
00:19:07Rudolph is now four for four, hits Bernard again.
00:19:09And he turns it inside, still inbound, still going, legs going.
00:19:12And it's first down and more.
00:19:15Kenyon was there to make the play, but not before another big play by Jeremy Bernard.
00:19:2024 yards on that reception.
00:19:22And he was not going down.
00:19:24Typically, you would see that going out of bounds, but he said, no way.
00:19:27I am putting my shoulder down, getting up the field, able to break out of the tackle here.
00:19:32And this is what they enjoy.
00:19:33That's why they drafted him in the second round because of his playmaking ability.
00:19:37Started 34 games in his 53 games at Alabama and Washington along with Michigan State.
00:19:43Elite route runner.
00:19:44That's what they talked about.
00:19:46And he showed you that he can do it facing some pressure, too.
00:19:49And there's a false start.
00:19:51Offense.
00:19:51Number 76.
00:19:52Five-yard penalty.
00:19:55First down.
00:19:56And that's Troy Fattano.
00:19:58And with more on Jeremy Bernard, let's go down to Missy Matthews.
00:20:01Well, guys, we found out on Steelers Nation Radio during training camp.
00:20:06Louis Lips was on the broadcast and said he's actually a distant relative of Jeremy Bernard.
00:20:11Knows his grandfather really well.
00:20:13Jeremy said he chose number 17 because he was five in college.
00:20:17Ramsey has that one, but he loves Devontae Adams.
00:20:20Doesn't watch his highlights on YouTube.
00:20:22He watches games in the film room to take after him.
00:20:26All right.
00:20:26First down and 15 at the penalty.
00:20:29Lou Nichols, who had a really good preseason last year.
00:20:32He gets the call there.
00:20:33A guy who led all FBS runners back in 2021, 1,800 yards on 341 carries.
00:20:41He gets 11 right there.
00:20:42So he got most of that penalty back and more.
00:20:44And he spent last year on a practice squad.
00:20:47This guy knows how to run with the football.
00:20:48You can see the vision as he able to cut it to the left side there.
00:20:51Just mentioned, talking about the rushing yards when he was at Central Michigan,
00:20:55played 32 games there.
00:20:56He's looking to build on what he's done.
00:21:00Once again, it's Nichols trying to get that necessary yardage.
00:21:05And it's going to be third and short.
00:21:07Darnell Washington trying to lead the pack there.
00:21:10Chris McClellan on the top for Green Bay.
00:21:13And we saw him last year.
00:21:14He led everyone in rushing in three games with 87 yards.
00:21:17So you knew he was going to be somebody who could do it.
00:21:19You just look at his history.
00:21:20And Lou Nichols has a big one in college.
00:21:2232 now for Rudolph.
00:21:24Looking left.
00:21:25Throwing and getting his receiver first down yardage.
00:21:28That is Brandon Smith, who's another receiver who's had a pretty good training camp.
00:21:33He's been with the Jets the last couple of years.
00:21:35Aaron Rodgers had a chance to play with him there.
00:21:37And I think he likes him as well.
00:21:39He does.
00:21:39And you can see his nice size as he's looking to build on everything you have.
00:21:44He's 6'1", 216.
00:21:47He's out of Iowa.
00:21:48And he's looking to kind of continue to build on what he's done.
00:21:50But again, spent some time with McCarthy, with the Cowboys.
00:21:54And now here he is joining the Steelers.
00:21:58This is 15 here.
00:22:00Yes.
00:22:00And Brandon Smith remains in the game after that reception.
00:22:04So now Rudolph, in the flat, goes to Homer.
00:22:08He's met immediately and taken down.
00:22:10Nice open field tackle right there for Mark Perry of Green Bay.
00:22:16And people who aren't familiar with Travis Homer, he's played an 85 regular season game.
00:22:21He just has two starts in his seven years.
00:22:23He spent some time in Seattle, Chicago, and now here he is with the Steelers.
00:22:28Mason Rudolph, so far perfect on the night.
00:22:30Six for six, 71 yards.
00:22:32Second possession.
00:22:34Steelers with their best penetration so far.
00:22:39And this has been a long drive.
00:22:40And they got a big third down conversion earlier in it.
00:22:42Second and seven now.
00:22:44Rudolph, again, rolling to his right now.
00:22:47Looking down the field, finding along the sidelines.
00:22:50And that's Roman Wilson, who keeps his feet inbounds.
00:22:52And that's going to be close to first down yardage.
00:22:55Roman Wilson, who, out of Michigan, was their go-to guy when J.J. McCarthy was there
00:23:00in their national championship run.
00:23:02And Mason was looking left.
00:23:03It looked like both receivers weren't on the same page as two people who were in the same position.
00:23:07But Mason rolls out to the right, able to find Wilson as he is breaking off his route.
00:23:11Nice job of keeping his feet inbounds right in front of the referee, setting up a manageable third down.
00:23:16Robert Tunyon in the game now.
00:23:18We have three tight ends in there.
00:23:19Tonya, of course, has a history with Green Bay, Mike McCarthy, as well as Aaron Rodgers.
00:23:23A little quick hitter, and it's a beautiful play there.
00:23:26Gets first down for Travis Homer.
00:23:28That continues this drive here.
00:23:30Mark Perry knocks him out of bounds, but not before they move to James.
00:23:34This is what you want to see.
00:23:35You collapse everybody inside.
00:23:37They're thinking, run.
00:23:38You're faking the Homer as he now slips out into the flat.
00:23:41Pick up an easy first down, setting up the Steelers here in the red zone.
00:23:45And the Steelers want to reel.
00:23:46They have some weapons in the red zone.
00:23:48And Mike McCarthy's talked about it quite a bit.
00:23:50Some big people, when Pittman and Metcalf are on the field, they're both six foot four.
00:23:54They've been looking for a number two to Metcalf, and this guy may be it.
00:23:57He's not in the game, of course, tonight, but looking forward to number 11 during this regular season.
00:24:03Blue Nichols in the backfield once again.
00:24:05First down for the Steelers.
00:24:08And Nichols cutting the outside.
00:24:09Darnell Washington with a nice block, and there's a flag down on the play.
00:24:13Nichols gets in for the touchdown, but there may be a holding call on the Steelers on this one.
00:24:18Holding.
00:24:19Offense number 76.
00:24:21Ten-yard penalty.
00:24:23First down.
00:24:25So, once again, that's on Troy Fatano.
00:24:27We had the previous penalty.
00:24:29Illegal motion.
00:24:30This one is one that nullifies the points here.
00:24:32So, the Steelers have been penalized five times now for 55 yards early in this first quarter.
00:24:38And this is a tough one here.
00:24:39Troy is expecting that ball to stay on the inside.
00:24:42And when he bounces it out, that's where you see the arm extend.
00:24:47We don't have it on this particular angle here, but that's what happens when that play bounces out.
00:24:51It's unfortunate for Troy as he gets called for that penalty, taking away the touchdown.
00:24:56Yeah.
00:24:56It was Denny Sutton who was the guy he was engaged with there.
00:25:03Penn Stater.
00:25:04We have a lot of Penn Stater's in this game, actually.
00:25:06Bernard back into the game now as Mike McCarthy calls the plays, and that's the difference.
00:25:10He loves to call his own plays.
00:25:11He's going to take a timeout here, but Angelico and he talk about the offense.
00:25:16He's the guy who calls the plays.
00:25:17In this.
00:25:18Buzz, do you want middle P.A.T. or right?
00:25:21All right, we're going to take a break here.
00:25:23Steelers knocking on the door.
00:25:24Down 3-0.
00:25:25That could change here late first quarter.
00:25:37This drive started with a sack, and they were nine yards back.
00:25:41It's second and 19, and now a little slant pattern.
00:25:44That goes to Jeremy Bernard, gets some of that yardage back.
00:25:46Rudolph is now 8-for-8, Charlie.
00:25:493-for-3 on third down.
00:25:51And Bernard did a nice job of setting up as if he was going to go fade.
00:25:54Came right back in on a beautiful slant route.
00:25:56And on that play.
00:25:57This is the end of the first quarter.
00:25:59We have come to the end of the first quarter.
00:26:01The only points.
00:26:02Trace Mack with a 37-yard field goal.
00:26:04But the Steelers, as I say, are knocking on the door.
00:26:07Second quarter action.
00:26:08Comes up from Accra Shore Stadium right after this.
00:26:16That's good.
00:26:27Touchdown.
00:26:28He's now called back already because of a holding.
00:26:32And once again, it's Nichols.
00:26:34He bounces it back to the outside.
00:26:35He's tripped up.
00:26:36He almost got back in, but a nice bit of ad-libbing after there was nothing available there.
00:26:41Brandon Cisse was there to make the tackle.
00:26:45But Nichols showed something good there.
00:26:46He did.
00:26:46He was following big Mason McCormick in the hole, realizing not much is there.
00:26:50Can I bounce it outside?
00:26:51He was able to do so, wasn't able to make the defender miss.
00:26:54And he's kicking himself right now because he thought he had a touchdown.
00:26:57Unfortunately, didn't happen.
00:26:58So let's see what happens on this play here.
00:27:01Well, you can see the instincts that made him number one in FBS football back in 2021.
00:27:07He has those instincts.
00:27:08He has the resume.
00:27:09Now he's getting more of a chance.
00:27:11Play action to him.
00:27:13Rudolph looking left now.
00:27:14And he's going to get into trouble.
00:27:16And finally, oh, he's judged the blocker.
00:27:18Throws back in the end zone.
00:27:20And that is a completion to Jeremy Bernard, but he may be out of bounds.
00:27:24What a good play by Mason Rudolph, however, to escape the pressure in a sure sack.
00:27:28And it looked like it was going to be a touchdown, but the call on the field is incomplete or
00:27:33out of bounds.
00:27:34So it is not a touchdown.
00:27:36And I wonder if this is going to be one of the accelerated replays that's coming in from New York
00:27:40to assist with the referees right here.
00:27:43They discuss whether or not this is a touchdown.
00:27:46Warren Brinson was the man back there to put the pressure on.
00:27:56That's what it looked like from up here, but a good job by Rudolph.
00:28:00He stepped up.
00:28:03Bernard high up the ladder.
00:28:05Left and wasn't able to keep the right foot down, but another angle.
00:28:10Maybe it gives us a better look here to see if he's able to get a toe down.
00:28:15Ah, is that a foul?
00:28:16Nice call.
00:28:17Got a referee in position.
00:28:18Made the proper call correctly.
00:28:21Yeah, good play defensively right there by Green Bay to make that happen.
00:28:25Arnall.
00:28:26You can see right now Mike McCarthy's not hesitating.
00:28:28He's going for it here on fourth down.
00:28:31Once again, shotgun for Rudolph.
00:28:33Looking left.
00:28:34Binding.
00:28:36Pat Friar Muth, but this is short, incomplete.
00:28:39They call it a completion right at the one-yard line, but he was knocked down.
00:28:42Ball came out afterwards, but that's how that is going to end.
00:28:45What a long drive.
00:28:46They had six points taken off the board.
00:28:49And it looked like Friar Muth was going to be able to stretch over, but then the ball came
00:28:53out down at the one.
00:28:55We'll be back right after this on KDKA.
00:29:01After they fail to get into the end zone, so we'll see what the Steely defense can do.
00:29:05And right now there's a play that gets over the 5 to the almost 10-yard line, so a nice
00:29:10first-down run for Green Bay.
00:29:14We're happy to have with us in the booth, Art Rooney the second.
00:29:19As he joins us here, we have an injury on the field, as you can see.
00:29:24I'm out for injury.
00:29:25Jamison down there, and he's still on the ground.
00:29:28But, Art, nice to have you up here, and I'm sure you're very happy to get things going.
00:29:31You have a whole new coaching staff, new energy right now, new players.
00:29:36What's this whole transition been like for you?
00:29:38Well, it's been interesting, that's for sure.
00:29:41A lot of changes.
00:29:43Coach McCarthy and his staff have done a great job, I think, getting them ready to start the season.
00:29:48You know, it's fun to see how it's looking tonight.
00:29:51And I know you have, you talked about changes that were made, Coach McCarthy, but Aaron Rodgers, and it's going
00:29:57to be a new-look offense.
00:29:58What are you expecting to see offensively?
00:30:00You know, I think we want to see consistent production and consistent points.
00:30:06So, you know, we were a little inconsistent last year, and so the goal, I think, now is to be
00:30:12a little more consistent.
00:30:13You know, we added some pieces on offense, and so I think we should see better results.
00:30:19You're just a few months away from the draft that was here in Pittsburgh, a wildly successful one.
00:30:25You had beautiful weather, 800,000 people showed up for that.
00:30:28We're hearing words and information about $177 million injected into the city.
00:30:34I don't think you could have planned it any better.
00:30:37Your reaction to what happened?
00:30:38No, I don't think it could have gotten any better.
00:30:41Pittsburgh showed fantastic to the whole country, and not that we were surprised.
00:30:45So it was a great event for Pittsburgh, and really proud of the way everybody handled it.
00:30:50In talking about the draft, you just displayed the Hall of Honor Museum, great display that you had prior to
00:30:56the game here.
00:30:56As you think about the draft, what was one of the most exciting things that you may have taken away
00:31:01from the draft?
00:31:02You know, just seeing that many people right outside the stadium here was fantastic.
00:31:08Honestly, you never know what to really expect when you have an event of that size.
00:31:13And so, you know, it was just great.
00:31:15Obviously, the weather was fantastic.
00:31:17And like I said, you couldn't ask for anything more.
00:31:22All right, back to play here.
00:31:24Tyrod Taylor looking to get there.
00:31:27Not much available.
00:31:28Let's talk about the Hall of Honor.
00:31:29You just saw the video of the Hall of Honor Museum.
00:31:32And this year, the Hall of Honor, three very special guys going in.
00:31:34And it's always difficult because you have so many who are worthy.
00:31:37Tell us about the three.
00:31:39Well, three, three special guys.
00:31:41Of course, JT should have started at four Super Bowls, but he started at three.
00:31:47And, you know, was another consistent player on that defense.
00:31:51And, of course, Craig was a great player for us.
00:31:55And really fantastic in the booth up here with our radio broadcast for so many years.
00:32:01And then Kevin, Kevin did such a great job and, you know, brought us two Super Bowl teams and just,
00:32:09you know, a lot of success.
00:32:10So, three great Steelers going in, that's for sure.
00:32:14And looking this year for the second year in a row, you're going to be going overseas.
00:32:17And Paris, France, which is an interesting and nice location.
00:32:22What did you learn from Dublin, that experience, and what might it help you moving along into Paris?
00:32:27Well, certainly Dublin was a fantastic experience.
00:32:30And just, you know, the way Steelers Nation turned out, as usual.
00:32:34It'll be interesting to see, you know, how it goes in France.
00:32:37It's a little different kind of city than Dublin.
00:32:41And I don't think they know football quite as well in France.
00:32:46So, it'll be different, but looking forward to, you know, showing the Steelers colors in France this year, for sure.
00:32:53Tyrod Taylor scramble for a first down.
00:32:55And it looked like it was going to be a late hit there, Charlie, on Cole Holcomb.
00:32:59They threw a flag.
00:33:01You can see Holcomb.
00:33:02He's coming in, trying to make a play.
00:33:04Taylor slides at the last minute.
00:33:06In that collision, referees are always going to err on the side of caution.
00:33:09You can see the flag thrown here.
00:33:13You know, they are discussing it.
00:33:14It would be a first down.
00:33:18And this would be the fourth penalty on the Steelers tonight.
00:33:20Personal foul.
00:33:22Number 55.
00:33:2415-yard penalty.
00:33:25Automatic first down.
00:33:27Yeah, too many penalties so far.
00:33:29That's one thing we've got to clean up.
00:33:31Yeah, and what happened on the touchdown to Lou Nichols on the holding by Flutano.
00:33:35This was a tackle made by Holcomb, but it looked like he went a little high, perhaps, Charlie,
00:33:42and that's what they called.
00:33:43Yeah.
00:33:46It's always a tough one for a linebacker there.
00:33:48The quarterback is scrambling, but you have to err on the side of caution and let up and let him
00:33:52slide.
00:33:53All right, what about the work in the offseason?
00:33:56You guys did a whole bunch of stuff with beautiful play there.
00:33:59Man, you talk about good defense.
00:34:01That's exactly what it was.
00:34:03And that's Robert Spears Jennings, a draft pick, and comes from a military family.
00:34:08He said he learned to be accountable.
00:34:10Man, he was accountable on that play.
00:34:11He's been looking good at camp the whole time.
00:34:15He just beelined right in there to make that stop.
00:34:22But you like to see that with young guys.
00:34:24As far as after the play, personal foul, number 19, 15-yard penalty, automatic first down.
00:34:34A lot of penalties being called here so far in this game.
00:34:36Too many penalties.
00:34:37Can't be making mistakes like that.
00:34:41Slaughter was the man who did it.
00:34:43Seven penalties now for 84 yards for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:34:49But you have so many new things going on, and I know you're excited about the start of the season.
00:34:54You get a home game to start this season, which is nice.
00:34:57That hasn't happened all that much over the years.
00:34:59It's nice to open at home.
00:35:04Good play.
00:35:06Covered well.
00:35:07There's another flag on that play.
00:35:11We'll see what it is.
00:35:12It was an incomplete pass down the middle.
00:35:14Taylor was going for it all right there.
00:35:20They've been busy.
00:35:22Well, at least this one looks like it might be on the Packers.
00:35:38That's the first penalty on Green Bay after the first seven here for the Steelers, so you're right.
00:35:42They need to clean that up.
00:35:43But I'm sure Mike McCarthy is, that's one of his points of emphasis, too.
00:35:47Ball security, but also don't make as many penalties.
00:35:49Yep.
00:35:50They do that.
00:35:53What's impressed you most about Mike McCarthy that maybe you didn't know?
00:35:57You know, the efficiency of the way he, you're pulling on the field to make a play pass.
00:36:07I'll tell you, you know, his attention to detail has been amazing, the way the practice is run.
00:36:13There's never a dull moment during practice, and so, you know, he just has everybody going a mile a minute,
00:36:21the whole practice, which is fun to see.
00:36:25He's going to be able to get the ball back on the second and 15 now for Green Bay.
00:36:27They lead three to nothing on a 37-yard field goal.
00:36:29The Steelers had a touchdown taken off the board because of a penalty, but now they'd like to get the
00:36:34ball back on the second and 15.
00:36:38Taylor goes to the side, has his receiver, but it's going to be well short.
00:36:42That's Isaiah Nair.
00:36:45He brought a lot of guys in, too, in free agency, and I wanted to get your opinion about the
00:36:49draft.
00:36:49It seems like for the last several years, Omar Khan and his staff have been concentrating on really building up
00:36:54the offensive line, defensive line.
00:36:57We've got some players there and a lot of high-end players on those both.
00:37:01You've got to win in the trenches.
00:37:02I think that's how it goes.
00:37:03Yeah, I think that's been the philosophy with Omar and Andy and, you know, building up both sides of the
00:37:09line.
00:37:10And, you know, we have some good young guys in there.
00:37:12It's going to be fun to see how they develop.
00:37:15Third down and down for Green Bay.
00:37:18Sawyer trying to get around, can't do it, pass goes incomplete, good coverage there.
00:37:22And, again, it's Cole Holcomb in coverage down the field, so that'll force a punt formation.
00:37:28Steel's going to get the ball back after a very long drive the first time they had it.
00:37:32It resulted in no points, but they came very close twice.
00:37:36You see right there Holcomb, he upset at himself earlier for giving up a 15-yard penalty,
00:37:41but yet able to now step up on third down and force a punt here with great coverage on the
00:37:46back side.
00:37:47All right, so the Steelers will get it back.
00:37:50Excited to see this kid play.
00:37:51Yes, speaking of our draft pick, here's one of our draft picks returning a punt here, so let's see how
00:37:56he does.
00:37:56Two years ago, led college football in return yards, kickoff returns, and then last year punt returns.
00:38:02Makes a good play there as it goes into the end zone.
00:38:05Art, thank you very much.
00:38:06We appreciate your time.
00:38:07Look forward to a successful season for you.
00:38:09All the best.
00:38:09Great to be with you.
00:38:09Thank you, guys.
00:38:10All right, we're going to take a break, come back.
00:38:13Steelers have the football down three right here on KDKA.
00:38:20So, as he is now attempting to throw his first pass, now Steelers Nation, they want to see him lead
00:38:25this offense.
00:38:26Ryan McCollum is the new center.
00:38:28This is the best starting position for the Steelers all night.
00:38:3020-yard line.
00:38:31They've had deficits to get out of.
00:38:34Travis Homer again up the middle.
00:38:35Not much there.
00:38:36Let's go down to Missy Matthews, who has more on number 18.
00:38:39Well, guys, it was hard for him to sit out last year.
00:38:42Wasn't even allowed out on the field during practice, so he was working on what he called special projects.
00:38:47He said they were little presentations he would put together for Aaron Rodgers, scout different things for upcoming opponents,
00:38:53in terms of self-scouting for the Steelers offense, and said it was basically a de facto internship,
00:38:58helped a lot, and even kept track of all the things Aaron told him.
00:39:02All right, second down now.
00:39:05Weijan in the game again, and so is Homer.
00:39:08Play action, rolling right, throwing, has his man.
00:39:11And that's Brandon Smith.
00:39:12First down yardage, first pass, and the Will Howard opportunity is a completion.
00:39:16Good for a first down.
00:39:19That is it, just getting on the move here.
00:39:22Move in the pocket.
00:39:23You can see, first read is Deer, doesn't want to take it.
00:39:25He's saying, no, I'm going down the field for the big chunk play.
00:39:28Nice job by Howard.
00:39:32Steelers get to the line in a hurry.
00:39:34Howard now, rolling right, nobody open, wisely throws it away.
00:39:38Attended for Jeremy Bernard.
00:39:41Last time we saw him was a national championship game, and he did a very good job leading Ohio State
00:39:46there,
00:39:46and was the MVP of that game.
00:39:48Had a lot of good weapons around him, no doubt, but
00:39:51when it came down to it, making good plays and big throws and tight windows, he did that.
00:39:55And this organization, they're looking at him, and they wanted to see that last year, unfortunately hurt right before the
00:40:00game started, kept him around, making sure that he was getting the reps that he's needed.
00:40:04And here he is now, able to move the pocket, just you saw that last play, it was out of
00:40:09throwaway, but that was the right play.
00:40:11Second and ten now.
00:40:13And it goes to Homer, again, not much there.
00:40:16He tries to inch for more, but can't get away from Warren Brinson.
00:40:22So Homer is getting a lot of work here.
00:40:24We expect to see a little of Jalen Warren or Rico Dowdle.
00:40:28So far, none of them.
00:40:29And Caleb Johnson's another guy we'd like to see more of, based on, you know, the fact that he didn't
00:40:33play all that much last year.
00:40:35But they got a good plan here.
00:40:37And at some point, we'll see these guys throughout the course of this preseason.
00:40:46Third and 11 for Will Howard.
00:40:48Steelers down by three, second quarter.
00:40:53Here comes pressure again from the outside.
00:40:56Howard trying to get away from him.
00:40:57He is dragged down there.
00:40:59Good play by San Oladapo.
00:41:04As he just broke away, immediately got pressure from the outside.
00:41:10And Howard was forced to roll and throw it.
00:41:13Roger Jones just wasn't able to get out to the defender there.
00:41:18Unfortunately, Mason, I mean, Will Howard, is rolling to the right.
00:41:21And all his receivers are going left.
00:41:23So that's just a tough play when you're under duress.
00:41:27All right, Sky Moore back once again.
00:41:32Cameron Johnston with a punt for the Steelers here.
00:41:36Sky Moore, who's had an impact on special teams.
00:41:39They signed him here because of this.
00:41:41And he had it with San Francisco.
00:41:42And he gets pretty good yardage there before the Steelers combined on knocking him down.
00:41:46Don.
00:41:47We got Everett over there.
00:41:48It was 44 yards on the kick.
00:41:5014 yards on the return.
00:41:52We'll be back as Green Bay goes back on offense.
00:41:54Up 3-0 here in the second quarter.
00:42:02On this training camp for sure.
00:42:04New quarterback for Green Bay.
00:42:05It's Kyle McCord out of Syracuse.
00:42:07Prior to that, it was Ohio State.
00:42:09And he had a tremendous 2004 until he came to Pittsburgh and played in the stadium.
00:42:14And that's a great play off the edge there for the Steelers.
00:42:22Boykin came up.
00:42:23Made sure of the tackle.
00:42:27You see Boykin right there.
00:42:29The rookie out of Indiana.
00:42:31He came up in a hurry.
00:42:36Jamison, by the way, who got injured earlier, is back in the game for the Steelers.
00:42:41Jaden Nixon was that ball carry.
00:42:43This time a court over the middle.
00:42:45Boykin in coverage there.
00:42:46Sky Moore, the receiver.
00:42:47And they get very close to first down.
00:42:49But McCord had a record-setting season for Syracuse in 2004.
00:42:54But he came here when Pitt played him.
00:42:56And Pitt came away with a big day against him.
00:42:58I believe he's five interceptions.
00:43:00They won 41-13.
00:43:03But he has a lot of talent.
00:43:04And we saw that in Syracuse after he left Ohio State.
00:43:07Third and one coming up now for Green Bay.
00:43:11Pierre Strong Jr., first time in the game for the Packers.
00:43:14And this is going to be a keeper.
00:43:16And it looks like it's good enough for first down yardage.
00:43:19And as McCord gets the necessary yardage to move the chains.
00:43:23Carson Bruner was there.
00:43:25Where's Mark Bruner's son?
00:43:27Made his name last year on special teams.
00:43:29Was everywhere on special teams.
00:43:30Did a good job.
00:43:31And now he's part of that inside linebacking group.
00:43:34And by the way, they brought in a Landon Roberts.
00:43:36That was announced.
00:43:38And he'll wear 57 when he plays.
00:43:40And we may expect him next week.
00:43:42The tooth chipper, as they called him back in the day.
00:43:45Yeah, they're looking to add.
00:43:46Good run stopper.
00:43:47In that inside linebacker group.
00:43:48You talked about Carson Bruner.
00:43:50Seven tackles last year.
00:43:51He's looking to add more than just being a special teamer here in 2026.
00:43:55This time a little end around.
00:43:57And it's going to go to Sky Moore, who's trying to get some yardage.
00:43:59She gets about six or seven there.
00:44:01Turns it actually more than that before Julius Welshoff came in to make a tackle.
00:44:08Jalen Everett, who's been active here tonight as well.
00:44:12He's got more.
00:44:13He's a local guy at the Shadyside Academy by way of Western Michigan.
00:44:17And he spent some time with the Chiefs 49ers.
00:44:19Here he is with the Packers.
00:44:21And they're looking for him to add a lot more weapons, trickery.
00:44:27All of those good things with the Packers' offense that they like to do.
00:44:31They do.
00:44:31Yeah, he has two Super Bowl championships to his name.
00:44:34Sky Moore.
00:44:37Mostly very good in the special teams.
00:44:39This time passed on the field.
00:44:41Nice play there again.
00:44:42Intended for Savion Williams.
00:44:44And it's Devon Boykin who is there.
00:44:46Got some pressure up front.
00:44:48That always happens with Azazi Otomo.
00:44:55Boykin is back there.
00:44:56He's sitting back there watching it, understanding.
00:44:58He's trying to hit the whole shot.
00:45:01Times it out.
00:45:01But you can see.
00:45:02Watching the hit here.
00:45:03Legal hit.
00:45:04Right with the shoulder.
00:45:06Doesn't force it down.
00:45:07Nice job by Jameson.
00:45:09Green Bay.
00:45:11Third and four.
00:45:12They're three for seven so far on third down.
00:45:14Trying to keep this drive alive.
00:45:16And again, it's McCord now.
00:45:18Feeling some pressure.
00:45:18Rolling to his left.
00:45:19Jack Sawyer in pursuit.
00:45:21He gets him.
00:45:22But not before he stretches out across that first down marker.
00:45:26And it looks like he did get it.
00:45:29He was able to extend that ball for the first down as they were hitting at it.
00:45:32Down toward the Packers' sideline.
00:45:34And setting up a new set of downs for you.
00:45:36You can see Sawyer trying to pursue.
00:45:39Nice job.
00:45:39But trying to strip.
00:45:40Unfortunately, wasn't able to reach the football.
00:45:48New set of downs.
00:45:50Jaden Nixon in the backfield.
00:45:52There you see Matt LaFleur.
00:45:53He was the guy who took over when Mike McCarthy left Green Bay.
00:45:58And this is Nixon.
00:45:59Nowhere to go.
00:45:59He's boxed in.
00:46:00And he gets out of bounds.
00:46:01Cole Holcomb was there.
00:46:03Samito, as well as three other Steelers.
00:46:06Nowhere to go for Nixon on that play.
00:46:07So that's going to be a no-gainer for McCarthy.
00:46:11Cole Holcomb did a nice job coming from the inside, running that play down.
00:46:15Looks like he has recovered from that injury that he faced a couple years ago.
00:46:19He's able to get sideline to sideline.
00:46:21He had 24 tackles last year.
00:46:2372 games throughout the course of his career.
00:46:25And he's looking to add to this inside linebacker group.
00:46:28And he missed all of 2024 with that devastating knee injury.
00:46:31And that's a tough rehab to come back from it.
00:46:33But give him credit.
00:46:34He's done that.
00:46:36Second and 11 after that loss of one.
00:46:38Again, it's Nixon.
00:46:39Trying to get there.
00:46:40Cannot do it.
00:46:42And a nice play there by Gabriel Rubio, the rookie out of Notre Dame.
00:46:46He was this year's sixth-round pick.
00:46:48And his dad was once drafted by the Steelers way back when, I think in 1998.
00:46:53He's been known as a good run stopper.
00:46:54And that's what he did right there.
00:46:55Yes, he is.
00:46:58He played at 13 tackles last year at Notre Dame.
00:47:01But I think when you look back, the play was started by Y.A. Black.
00:47:04He was able to now beat his defender, push, and put pressure up the middle there,
00:47:08forcing the running back to bounce outside, allowing Rubio to come and clean it up.
00:47:12Black is one of those guys who's going to have a force on the inside.
00:47:15He can make life easier for some of those inside linebackers if he does that.
00:47:18Here's pressure now from the outside.
00:47:19McCord boxed in, nowhere to go, and he's going to be sacked.
00:47:23Jack Sawyer got there.
00:47:31And the Steelers are going to stop.
00:47:34And you see the outside.
00:47:34What a great rush there by Jamin Davis.
00:47:37That's number 50.
00:47:38He missed him, but he got back into it at the end.
00:47:40But Sawyer was there.
00:47:41So a combined sack.
00:47:42Good pressure from the outside.
00:47:44We love to see that.
00:47:44And Davis is a former first-round pick with Washington way back when, Sky Moore.
00:47:51And he has some experience, 56 games throughout his five-year NFL career.
00:47:57All right.
00:48:00Weager once again.
00:48:01This time the ball does get into the end zone, but it was close.
00:48:05It looked like it may not be a touch back there.
00:48:07He let the ball over his head.
00:48:10And twice now he's done that.
00:48:11And now let's hear a word from the Steelers Pro Shop.
00:48:16Get all your Steelers gear direct from the team.
00:48:19Shop the Steelers Pro Shop in-store or online for all things black and gold.
00:48:24You can get jerseys, hats, authentic memorabilia, custom gear, and exclusives you can't find anywhere else.
00:48:33And, of course, get the ultimate Steelers game-day accessory, the Terrible Town.
00:48:38Now, Steelers Nation shops here.
00:48:40Get your gear in-store or online at shop.steelers.com.
00:48:47Great place to get all your stuff.
00:48:51Steelers.com.
00:48:52They're ready for you.
00:48:53See a lot of Steeler fans here, many of them for the first time.
00:48:56You know, preseason's a good opportunity to come out and see what this team has.
00:49:00See those terrible towels.
00:49:01They fly off the roof.
00:49:02A lot of them were trying to get those ones from Dublin last year.
00:49:05Let's see what those ones look like for Paris in a couple months.
00:49:08Lou Nichols remains in the backfield.
00:49:11Will Howard, second possession.
00:49:14Up the middle, it's Nichols.
00:49:16Gets a good four yards before he's down.
00:49:18And, as we said, Nichols is trying to knock on the door here.
00:49:21But this is a tough group when you have Warren and Dowdle.
00:49:24And he was brought in, Dowdle.
00:49:25He spent one year with McCarthy in Dallas, 1,000 yards for Western Carolina.
00:49:30And does the same.
00:49:31That's it.
00:49:32And just wanting that production here and that running back group.
00:49:34You see McCarthy, he's trying to get as many plays in as possible.
00:49:37If they pick this first down up, expect the Steelers to go into a two-minute drill
00:49:41because he really wants to see his young quarterback in that setting.
00:49:44Another thing we'd like to zoom in on if we get a chance is Broderick Jones, number 77.
00:49:48Everything that he's gone through, he's in there.
00:49:53That's Nichols once again continuing to work hard to get close to first down yardage.
00:49:57This is going to be one yard short.
00:50:00This is the two-minute warning.
00:50:03Timeout.
00:50:04We have reached the two-minute warning.
00:50:051.57 left in the first half.
00:50:083-0 Green Bay.
00:50:09Steelers trying to get on the board before halftime.
00:50:11We're back.
00:50:12Clear this.
00:50:20Only a holding call on Troy Fautano.
00:50:23It was a very long drive, but they came away with nothing.
00:50:25Trying to change that.
00:50:26Once again, Nichols remains in the game.
00:50:28And nice backside pursuit there.
00:50:30And results in a nice tackle for Green Bay.
00:50:33And that's Marlon Jones out of Vanderbilt.
00:50:36This is what I talked about a couple plays ago, Bob.
00:50:39Want to see his young quarterback in a two-minute drill.
00:50:41Mike McCarthy works a lot of this in training camp to make sure they understand end of the
00:50:46the game scenarios on how important those are, and here's Will Howard's first opportunity here.
00:50:56Brad Rogers talking things over once again.
00:51:00Steelers had their hands up in the air like, what was this about?
00:51:03I wonder, could it be the assistant replay from New York?
00:51:06Is there now looking to see if he made the first down?
00:51:10Could be.
00:51:11They were going to use a lot more of this in preseason especially.
00:51:15The previous play is under review.
00:51:17Rolling on the field is the runner reached the line to gain.
00:51:21And I think what they're looking at here, Bob, is whether or not his knee was down
00:51:25before he extended the ball over the first down line.
00:51:32That's a lot of replay assist in play that we saw last year.
00:51:36In fact, replay last year, there were 322 of these.
00:51:40The average time, which is important, it was only a minute 25 seconds down,
00:51:43a minute from three years ago, but here it is.
00:51:46Looks like his knee is still up.
00:51:48That should be a first down.
00:51:51In the NFL, they're still trying to work the kinks out of this assistant replay
00:51:55and trying to expedite that so it's not taken away from the game.
00:51:58So, in some cases, it does look like a first down,
00:52:01but they just want to get it right as they are preparing for the regular season as well.
00:52:05Nichols did a good job.
00:52:07He knows.
00:52:08They watched for that.
00:52:08He stretched it out.
00:52:09It did look like he got it.
00:52:10We'll see what they say.
00:52:13Steelers run game last year, 26th in the NFL with 103 yards per game.
00:52:18They need to do better in that.
00:52:20McCarthy, in his 18 years, averaged 111, which is right in the middle of the pack,
00:52:24but I'm sure with Warren and Dowdle especially,
00:52:27they're going to expect more in that run game this year.
00:52:28You better believe it.
00:52:29And when you get third and one-third in inches,
00:52:31you have to convert that 100% of the time.
00:52:35And Aaron Rodgers, I know he'll be in there a lot.
00:52:37That's one of those ones that whether he brings a quarterback sneak in
00:52:40or at least get him to the right play to make sure that they're able to pick up
00:52:42those third and short situations as they're preparing for this two-minute drill.
00:52:47But talking about that, 1-30 now.
00:52:49The runner was short of the line to gain.
00:52:50It'll be fourth down.
00:52:52Please put the game clock at 1-55, and the clock will start on my line.
00:52:58From our angle, it looked like it was a first down,
00:53:00so maybe they're looking at another angle down the line of scrimmage.
00:53:03But Mike McCarthy, he's not hesitating here.
00:53:05He's going for it on fourth and inches.
00:53:07Yeah, why not?
00:53:08It is preseason.
00:53:09I'm trying to get some information on all these guys,
00:53:13especially a handle situation like this.
00:53:15Ben Skoranik's back in the game.
00:53:18Roman Wilson as well.
00:53:20Fourth down and one on the 29-yard line.
00:53:24And now Rudolph, or Howard, has his man over the middle.
00:53:28It's a good play there.
00:53:29And again, it's Ben Skoranik, who had a previous reception just like that.
00:53:33He makes another one.
00:53:34Good for 17 yards.
00:53:35And if you wonder if this offense...
00:53:36That's a lot of confidence.
00:53:37If you wonder if this offense is going to look like last year,
00:53:39that is an example right there.
00:53:41Fourth and inches, he's taking a shot down the field.
00:53:43Nice play by Howard, and a good catch by Skoranik,
00:53:46who's really become very good in that wide-receiving category.
00:53:49And here's another play.
00:53:50Wide open is Robert Tunyon.
00:53:52He's the tight end who played for Mike McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers.
00:53:57He makes his first reception.
00:53:58Mark Perry was there to make the tackle.
00:54:04Time out for injury.
00:54:06By rule, Green Bay is charged their first time out.
00:54:11So now the Steelers can regroup here.
00:54:13You see Mike McCarthy looking at that play sheet,
00:54:14realizing he's sitting there at the 38-yard line,
00:54:18trying to get into the end zone.
00:54:20Robert Tunyon, he'd actually played with McCarthy,
00:54:23or under McCarthy, over the years.
00:54:27And he's here right now, just trying to make a big play,
00:54:30trying to take over that number three tight end position.
00:54:34Skoranik, by the way, has two receptions down for 36 yards.
00:54:37Tunyon was a guy who had his best season back in 2020.
00:54:4252 catches, he had 11 touchdowns.
00:54:43Made his name for himself there.
00:54:46When you get up there and double-digit touchdowns,
00:54:48that let you know you was a red zone weapon.
00:54:50And that's something he's looking to bring here to the Steelers.
00:54:53Mark Perry is the injured Packer down there.
00:54:57And he's been down for a couple of minutes right now,
00:55:00so hopefully it's not anything serious for him.
00:55:05Packers have been looking to try to improve their secondary play, too.
00:55:08Last year, just seven interceptions overall.
00:55:11They brought in some guys.
00:55:12Benjamin St. Juice, third-round pick.
00:55:17Brandon Cisse was also a guy picked in the second round,
00:55:20so they knew they needed some help there.
00:55:22And Barry at safety is one of the guys who was one of their free agent signings.
00:55:28Good to see him walking.
00:55:31Number 41 is up, looks to be okay.
00:55:36Skoranik's catch is not only two for what I told you.
00:55:39They came at critical times.
00:55:40Third and sixth.
00:55:41He completed one for 19 yards,
00:55:43and then Skoranik on that one.
00:55:44Fourth and one, 17 yards.
00:55:45So, he's had a big impact on big plays.
00:55:48But you've got to like McCarthy saying,
00:55:50all right, we're just doing this.
00:55:51We've got to see what this kid has.
00:55:53Will Howard made a nice play and a nice throw.
00:55:57Doesn't matter which quarterback in training camp,
00:55:59all of them gets the opportunity to run the two-minute drill.
00:56:02Will Howard is just first up.
00:56:04All right, first and ten.
00:56:05Steelers trying to get on the board here, down 3-0.
00:56:08A minute 13 left, first half.
00:56:11Nichols in motion.
00:56:12Instead, it's a screen, and it's Tanya with blockers downfield.
00:56:15Robert Tanya gets inside the 25 to about the 22-yard line.
00:56:19Well-designed.
00:56:20Tyron Hopper makes the tackle not before 15 yards in the book for the Steelers.
00:56:25That was a beautifully designed play there by the looks of when he caught it.
00:56:28I'm thinking that play had a chance to go into the end zone.
00:56:31It didn't happen.
00:56:32Love the design of that one.
00:56:33Howard bypasses pressure.
00:56:35Tanya in the end zone.
00:56:37Touchdown, Pittsburgh Steelers.
00:56:3923 yards, Will Howard to Robert Tanya.
00:56:43And the Steelers have their first points of this game.
00:56:48Nice two-minute draft.
00:56:50That Howard there, we just talked about Tanya in a few moments ago,
00:56:53about getting into the end zone.
00:56:55And you can see right there, work in the middle of the field,
00:56:58able to get up over top of the defender.
00:57:00You can see him coming down.
00:57:02I wonder if they're going to turn around and look at this particular play on replay,
00:57:05only because of how close it was, his knee hits the ground.
00:57:08The previous play.
00:57:09But where were the ball?
00:57:10The question is where the ball was.
00:57:11Correct.
00:57:12If he's down,
00:57:15and the ball is across the goal line, that should be a touchdown.
00:57:18We'll see.
00:57:19We're not going to be able to see it at this angle,
00:57:21but the referee furthest to the sideline,
00:57:23he immediately called it a touchdown.
00:57:25So let's see if his angle is better than ours up here, Bob.
00:57:29Here it is from this point of view.
00:57:31Again, he can't see where the ball is,
00:57:32although it looks like it's over the goal line.
00:57:35By the way, Will Howard now 4 for 4, 71 yards.
00:57:38And you said it when you looked at that replay.
00:57:40I was really amazed how he got it over the linebacker into that coverage.
00:57:44He had to throw it high, but he knew Tanya could go up and get it.
00:57:46And that's where you want the football, right there.
00:57:48You see the referee to the right side running into the screen.
00:57:52He's going to throw his hands up, signaling touchdown.
00:57:55Let's see if the replay agrees with us.
00:58:00All right, here it is.
00:58:01This doesn't look from this freeze frame as if the ball did cross.
00:58:05If it is a touchdown at 7, plays 80 yards, a minute 54 seconds.
00:58:09If it's not, there will be one more play to add.
00:58:13After review, the runner was short of the goal line.
00:58:16Clock operator, please put 49 seconds on the clock.
00:58:19By rule, it will be run 10 seconds off of the clock from 49 to 39.
00:58:25Also, please set the play clock to 30 seconds.
00:58:28The clock will start on my ready for play.
00:58:33All right.
00:58:35So, it looked like a rigged touchdown pass.
00:58:37Still a really good play and a good throw.
00:58:39I mean, you can't change that.
00:58:41Mike McCarthy asking more about that right now.
00:58:43But you saw the freeze frame.
00:58:44That pretty much was the play they were looking at.
00:58:46That was it.
00:58:47And Will Howard, patient.
00:58:49Green Bay.
00:58:50Green Bay.
00:58:50Leading the team down the field.
00:58:51Here they are sitting at the one-yard line.
00:58:53You have two timeouts left.
00:58:55So, you should expect this to be four-down territory for Mike McCarthy here to try to get their team
00:59:00ahead.
00:59:01Still two timeouts remaining for McCarthy.
00:59:06So, now the discussions by both head coaches are wondering what's going on.
00:59:10By rule, Green Bay has chosen to take a timeout to put the game clock at 49 seconds.
00:59:15So, please put the game clock at 49 seconds and the play clock at 25 seconds.
00:59:19It will start on the snap.
00:59:20And this is preseason football right here.
00:59:22Because I promise you, on the other side, they're thinking,
00:59:24I want an opportunity with my young quarterback to run a two-minute drill as well.
00:59:28You don't get these opportunities in games as much.
00:59:31But when you do, you want to make sure, at least preseason,
00:59:34that you're now giving your guys the opportunity to give every look possible to make the roster.
00:59:40Yep.
00:59:40Matt LaFleur has done a good job in Green Bay.
00:59:44Although, last year, they started off really well.
00:59:45They were, I believe, 5-1 and 1, 9-3 at one point.
00:59:49But they did not finish well.
00:59:52And so, they're looking to approve on that.
00:59:54Lou Nichols.
00:59:55And we have a fullback.
00:59:57Robert Tanyan remains in the game.
01:00:00Riley Nowakowski leads the way for Nichols.
01:00:03He does get in for the touchdown.
01:00:04And the Steelers are on the board.
01:00:06So, Tanyan is denied.
01:00:08But Nichols is not.
01:00:11With Nowakowski leading the way.
01:00:12And the Steelers have a 6-3 lead.
01:00:14And you're right.
01:00:15LaFleur running those 10 seconds because he wants an opportunity with Kyle McCord.
01:00:20And this is how you do it.
01:00:21So, yes, you don't want to give a touchdown up by the defensive side of the ball.
01:00:24But yet, hey, you're now giving your chance and give your guys an opportunity to run this similar two-minute
01:00:29drill so you can evaluate that way.
01:00:31Nice job at Will Howard putting this two-minute drive together and putting his team into the end zone.
01:00:39Mike McCarthy likes what he sees there.
01:00:41Eight plays, 80 yards, a minute, 53 seconds off the clock.
01:00:44And Lou Nichols, who made a preseason name for himself last year, is doing the same this year.
01:00:50And, you know, he was originally a draft pick of the Green Bay Packers, seventh round.
01:00:54Boswell adds the extra point.
01:00:55So, with 46 seconds left in the first half, the Steelers have the lead, 7-3.
01:01:05You see everybody right there?
01:01:07And it's like, this is what we worked on.
01:01:09End of the half scenarios right here.
01:01:12Eight plays, 80 yards.
01:01:14Lou Nichols, one-yard touchdown.
01:01:17And you see it right there.
01:01:18Kia scoring drive brought to you by Kia.
01:01:20Nichols, one-yard run.
01:01:21Set up by the Tanyan.
01:01:23Pass over the middle.
01:01:24Knee down at the one.
01:01:25So, it took one play longer.
01:01:27Eight plays, 80 yards, 153.
01:01:31You know, a lot of these guys may end up on the practice squad, as Lou Nichols did last year.
01:01:35But the league is...
