00:04President Hakainde Ichilema seeking a second term amid growing pressure over
00:08the cost of living. Around eight million voters are registered to choose the
00:13president, parliamentarians and local councillors.
00:16Polling stations open before dawn with voters braving the cold and long queues
00:20to make their voices heard. I feel so happy, I'm so grateful that I can
00:26exercise my democratic rights. Yeah, so so happy.
00:30I feel good, I'm happy about it. I've exercised my rights, my democratic rights as a Zambian citizen and I
00:39feel great about it.
00:41I feel, I've fulfilled a responsibility that I have to, or feel for my country.
00:46Well it's like a burden off my shoulders. It's a relief and we are voting for
00:56the future of this country, the future for our children and the future for prosperity.
01:03That's how I feel. The vote is being monitored by European Union observers among others
01:08with results expected Monday according to electoral commission. For Ichilema, the
01:13outcome will decide whether voters will give him another five years to deliver on
01:17economic promises.
