00:00Hot stretch, or a power surge, I would say, from Sammy Stafford.
00:0314 home runs in 18 games during July.
00:06That's the kind of stretch where I have to ask you,
00:09the person who's actually watching it every night,
00:11what in the world did that look like?
00:14Was he just locked in, or did you see a real change
00:16in his swing or approach where he had power
00:19that you hadn't seen from him before?
00:21Yeah, it was interesting, because going into that month,
00:25when he had 14 home runs in July, he had five on the season.
00:30Coming into that.
00:31So it was one of those where it started, and it goes,
00:34OK, we had seen him have the ability to leave the yard.
00:38Maybe he's just kind of finding it.
00:39And then it turned into, I don't know,
00:41if they're just throwing him meatballs down the middle.
00:44And then it turned into, OK, well, this is actually consistent.
00:47What is going on here?
00:49In Greensboro, we actually have two hitting coaches,
00:51Quentin Brown and Jonathan Ruth.
00:52I went and talked to them.
00:53They said it was a mindset change.
00:56They got him to flatten out his swing.
00:58They got him to attack specific parts of the zone
01:02that he felt he was comfortable at.
01:05And as a result, start to soar out of the park.
01:07I mean, he went from batting .257 with five home runs
01:11and 16 RBIs coming into the month of July
01:13to .303, 14 home runs, eight doubles, and 35 RBIs.
01:19That was just in the month of July.
01:21It was crazy to watch.
01:23I personally loved it because as a broadcaster,
01:27I got a lot of home run calls.
01:29And a lot of them you knew off the bat
01:31were going to be home runs.
01:32There was nothing that crawled over the wall.
01:34It was all off the bat.
01:36Sometimes the fielder didn't even move.
