00:00Big day, obviously, Commanders, Dolphins, joint practice.
00:0510.30 it starts.
00:06I'm very excited about this kind of thing.
00:08We're not going to see much of it, but that's kind of why it's important, too.
00:12This is why the coaches like it, because this stuff's not going to be all out on film
00:17for the whole league to see.
00:19Although you will get some glimpses and you'll see some peek-ins on the NFL network or whatever,
00:24maybe it'll be an online shot or two,
00:28they can really start to implement some things in a new offense, in a new defense.
00:32It's not full go, get after everybody, light up the quarterback.
00:39I think typically it's more like what they call thud.
00:42You're wearing pads, you hit them, but you don't take them to the ground necessarily,
00:46that kind of thing.
00:47But it does get intense.
00:49There will be fights, presumably.
00:52Those kinds of things do happen.
00:55It'll be interesting to see, obviously, how Jaden handles the new offense,
01:00kind of implement some of that stuff under center,
01:02and just kind of see that going against real competition.
01:05I do believe, I'm not an expert on the Dolphins, I should have my guy Joe P on.
01:09I think he's in Europe, though, unfortunately.
01:11Joe P's a Dolphin expert.
01:13But I don't believe their corners are particularly great.
01:16I don't even think their receivers are particularly great.
01:19And at quarterback, they're kind of relying on Malik Willis, right?
01:23They're kind of throwing their cash on him.
01:25That's their number one, yeah.
01:26It's not necessarily the toughest opponent for them necessarily to work out with,
01:32but it'll be interesting to see how these pieces fit in.
01:35How do McLaurin and Diggs, et cetera, Antonio Williams and these guys match up
01:39against their DBs, and how does our revamp defense, what kind of pressure
01:46and what kind of confusion, what kind of problems can we present the Dolphins' offense?
01:50The Dolphins, on their depth chart, their receivers are Jalen Tolbert,
01:55who they brought in from Dallas.
01:57They drafted Caleb Douglas from Texas Tech, I think third round.
02:00And then they have Malik Washington.
02:02Those are their top three receivers based on the depth chart.
02:06Right.
02:06I mean, that's not super impressive.
02:09I mean, Waddle's gone.
02:10Obviously, Tyreek, he's been gone.
02:14So, yeah, I mean, they're trying to get a little –
02:16Two is gone.
02:17Two is gone.
02:17It's a totally different team.
02:18They're trying to get new coaching staff.
02:20Yeah, you're right.
02:20Yeah, it's tough.
02:21It's always interesting to see another team go against you in training camp
02:26because at least you're not going against your own guys.
02:28Yeah, totally.
02:29It's something that you're not really expecting.
02:30Now, we're still obviously not at full strength.
02:34You know, they're talking about the Tunsil thing.
02:37I mean, that is what it is.
02:38What I thought, I considered it good news that he's going to stay around the team
02:45while he rehabs.
02:46Like, he has every right as a vet and a proven player to go and do his rehab whenever,
02:52but I think he wants to continue to mentor the young guys, be around this team.
02:55He likes these guys.
02:56And I think he announced yesterday, or word got out,
02:59that he is going to rehab here in town and be around the guys.
03:02Good.
03:03So, that's good.
03:04Yeah.
03:04You know, he can mentor Coleman and all these guys.
03:08Yeah.
03:08So, other injuries, obviously, still dealing with Allegretti.
03:12Quinn talked about it.
03:15Strained his calf right away on day one.
03:20He's going to be out.
03:21He was out of practice, I believe, yesterday,
03:23and he's not going to be practicing today.
03:27Hopefully, they think Sunday will be the return for him.
03:30Um, Trey Amos is another guy who started out on the pup list, then came back.
03:37You know, he had the fractured fibula.
03:38Uh, but then he had a weird deal where he landed awkwardly on his ankle.
03:43Um, they're still assessing it.
03:45Uh, DQ said yesterday.
03:47Um, he's also not going to be participating today.
03:51And they're hoping, um, that by Sunday or Monday, they'll have a better sense of when he'll be back.
03:57But I don't think it's a long-term thing, but I don't think it's necessarily something where he's going to,
04:03you know, be back on Sunday yet, too.
04:06And then you have John Bates, um, who I don't believe Quinn updated yesterday.
04:12Um, he's been working on the side.
04:14I don't think anybody thinks his injury is particularly, uh, serious.
04:19But he's not going to be available for the practice or the preseason game either.
04:24They know what they have with Bates.
04:26Just got to get him healthy.
04:28Absolutely.
04:28Especially now that Tunsil's out.
04:30So he's going to be helping out in blocking.
04:31I want to give a shout-out to, uh, Dean Jones.
04:35We're going to steal his, uh, takes here from, uh, Riggo's Rag.
04:39He has his five standouts yesterday, uh, from day 11 practice.
04:44A lot of guys didn't practice yesterday because they're going hard today.
04:47A lighter day.
04:47Yeah, it was a much lighter day.
04:49Uh, Jaden is the first guy.
04:50He's getting some props.
04:52I think it was interesting.
04:53Uh, Drab, maybe you could comment on this.
04:56Uh, what's going on with Russell?
04:58And he's just being attacked.
05:00He's, he's complaining that Skins fans are attacking him all the time.
05:03I think he had a, he had a negative, uh, opinion on, uh, Jaden maybe for a moment.
05:09And then he's complaining that he's being attacked.
05:11I've seen most, most reports I've seen on Jaden have been pretty positive.
05:15Well, that's why he got attacked.
05:16Because it was the first negative, critical.
05:19Yeah.
05:20And it wasn't even that bad.
05:21He just said that he was so-so.
05:23He said he was a little off.
05:24No, I didn't even think, I didn't even think Chris, what he said was, was very critical.
05:28I think he just said, you know, he didn't look at like very, very too sharp.
05:33You know what I mean?
05:33Yeah, I forget the exact verbiage.
05:34It was something like he wasn't as sharp as usual or he looked so-so.
05:37Something like that.
05:38I don't think he said so-so.
05:39I just, I think he just said wasn't as sharp today as like in other days.
05:42It wasn't as good as in other days.
05:43It was kind of, it was kind of, it was kind of benign.
05:45Yeah.
05:45Look, Russell is a target.
05:46Which of course, guys have good days and bad days.
05:48The rooster's a target in general.
05:49You should see me on the golf courses.
05:50And when you don't cheerlead for the top player, sometimes you get attacked.
05:55Yeah.
05:55I just, I was kind of getting kicked out of that.
05:57And I think, I think Chris kind of dug himself into a hole when he took his stance by saying
06:02that, saying like, there's people out, there's people out there that are, that are, I don't
06:08know, just everything's pro commanders.
06:12Well, that's definitely true.
06:13I mean, I complain about that all the time.
06:14Like I'm a homer.
06:16I love the team, but I'm not afraid to criticize the team if I see something or if I have
06:20a
06:21taste or something.
06:22That's where I think, that's where I think Chris kind of put his foot in his mouth a little
06:25bit.
06:25Well, I don't know.
06:27It is true.
06:27You do have a certain percentage of people out there that like, uh, we call them the
06:31HTTR guys, HTC guys that just, you just can't say anything negative.
06:35So if Jaden plays horrible in a game, you can't criticize him?
06:39Uh, I don't know.
06:40There'll be, there'll be a lot, there'll be a lot of, there's a certain percentage that
06:43just want you to say, oh, hey, he had a bad game.
06:44Don't worry about it.
06:45It's not a big deal.
06:46That's basically what Russell was saying.
06:47Or he had a bad day.
06:48Or, or they'll blame it on somebody else.
06:51Right.
06:51Like bad offensive line.
06:53That line, the receivers, the defense didn't help him out.
06:55Yeah.
06:56Yeah.
06:56Here's the exact tweet where he got dragged from August 10th.
07:00Jaden Daniels was not overly sharp today.
07:03In my opinion, had a great touchdown throw to De'Ami Brown in the corner of the end zone.
07:08Had a smooth hookup with Terry along sidelines.
07:10A lot of other passes were erratic, some high, wide, too long.
07:15And then there are 64 comments.
07:19And, you know, he's a very sensitive guy.
07:21Yeah, he's sensitive.
07:22So when, when people come at us, I saw that he started blocking people.
07:27Yeah.
07:28I don't think he likes bad language at them.
07:30Yeah.
07:31Because, like, here's an example.
07:32You're literally the only person saying this.
07:34Yeah.
07:35Yeah.
07:36Everyone else says he's surgical.
07:38These are the comments.
07:39So because he has a different opinion, people are upset.
07:42Yeah.
07:42You should be able to give your opinion and it can be different.
07:45That's the, it is coming on the day where, where Denton Day described Jaden as being
07:49surgical, but how can two guys watch the same thing?
07:53So Denton Day thought he was great and Chris thought he was great.
07:56No, I talked to Russell yesterday.
07:58Russell was like really upset that people thought that he was disagreeing with Denton.
08:02And he said that Denton didn't say he was surgical.
08:04He said his process, his processing was more surgical-like, not his passes or something like that.
08:09People listen to what they want to.
08:11Yeah, they're hearing what they want.
08:11And then, look, Russell's, he's always, he likes being the bad guy and then he likes
08:16being crying that he's getting beat up.
08:18I mean, I love Chris, but he's a disaster.
08:20I mean, yesterday he fell down in a divot and went to the medical tent for an hour.
08:24Like the guy, he's a circus.
08:26Like that's part of his charm.
08:28Yeah.
08:28Oh, he fell down.
08:29But you should be allowed to, as a commander's commentator, to say, in my opinion, he was
08:35not overly sharp.
08:37That's like the softest criticism ever.
08:39He didn't say he was bad.
08:40He said he had a couple passes that were erratic.
08:42I think that first sentence was fine.
08:45It's that when he got descriptive about the others, that probably rankled people.
08:48Right.
08:48Even though it might have been correct.
08:50Yeah, but it's, we've been dealing with this for 30 years.
08:53I'm looking at his comments, which I hadn't looked at it.
08:56And here's the guy.
08:57Anyway, you're an effing hater, man.
09:00How you're the only one saying anything close to this.
09:03Well, it's his opinion.
09:05He watched.
09:05What I'll say about Chris is he goes to the practices.
09:09Like when I was researching for my book, I was going there.
09:11Chris Russell's there.
09:12He's there all the time.
09:14He's watching.
09:15Those 64 people weren't there.
09:17Doesn't mean he's right.
09:18Other people can have different opinions.
09:19But, I mean, it's such an innocuous comment to say he was not overly sharp.
09:25Yeah.
09:26He then highlights two great passes.
09:28Right.
09:28But then he says other passes were erratic.
09:31Some high, wide, too long.
09:33Yeah.
09:33Some.
09:34Right.
09:34But there are certain people that you just can't say anything negative.
09:37I think that that's preposterous.
09:39You should be able to say something negative.
09:40Still love the team.
09:41Still be positive.
09:42But, hey, maybe a guy didn't play that well.
09:44I didn't think he played good.
09:45Whatever.
09:46You should be able to say that.
09:48But, anyway, Jaden, yesterday, I think the Russell comments were from two days ago.
09:53I think.
09:53August 10th.
09:55According to, I've got to give a guy, again, Dean Jones, the guy from Rugo's Rec, he was
09:59there.
09:59He was commenting.
10:00He said Jaden was his top guy, top standout.
10:02The other guy that I saw kind of universally being talked about, and he did flash at times
10:07last year, is Colson Yankoff.
10:11He's raising eyebrows.
10:11Yeah, Colson was raving about him.
10:13Yes.
10:13I was listening to Grant yesterday when I was driving.
10:16He was driving around, and I think they started off the show, basically, Grant Danny, and
10:21he was like, Colson Yankoff.
10:23Yeah.
10:23Really?
10:24He looked great.
10:24Well, he just keeps making plays.
10:26He's super athletic.
10:27I think, you know, he's only been playing tight end for a few years.
10:31I'm not sure.
10:31Did he start out at UCLA as a quarterback?
10:33I'm not sure what his history is.
10:35Quarterback's part of his history.
10:36Yeah.
10:37He's just one of these guys, smart, athletic.
10:40I think he's been used primarily for special teams.
10:43But, you know, I can remember him making a few plays last year where he kind of did raise
10:48your eyebrows.
10:49My only thing with the discussion of guys like Colson Yankoff, and I think Grant said in
10:54perspective, is sometimes we get excited about these guys in training camp, and they're
10:58just not going to play very much, because you've got Chig.
11:00But you know that.
11:01Yeah.
11:02You've got Chig.
11:03But no one says he's going to catch 60 balls.
11:04And you've got Bates.
11:05Like, he's going to barely catch 10 balls if he catches 10.
11:09Yeah, but they could be.
11:10But it's okay.
11:10I mean, that's fine.
11:11No one's saying they're going to be superstars.
11:13They're saying, hey, he's flashing.
11:15He's going to probably make the team.
11:17And, hey, he might catch a touchdown or two this year.
11:19Yeah, but what I'm saying is it's probably inconsequential that that guy's flashing.
11:23Okay.
11:24Maybe.
11:25I mean, if he has a big touchdown against the Eagles, it's not going to be inconsequential.
11:29Well, it's probably not, is my point, because Chig's going to be on the field.
11:32Over the course of a season, he's probably going to make a couple plays that help the football
11:36team.
11:37That would be my guess.
11:38Don't get better at my interpretation.
11:39I'm just saying that this is what happens in training camp.
11:41We get excited about the sixth receiver who doesn't get on the field.
11:44But the sixth receiver, I think it's okay to be excited about the sixth receiver, because
11:49if he catches 20 balls, some of those could be very consequences.
11:53I think it's a good story, though.
11:53It's a good story.
11:55That Yankoff is looking good.
11:56I think JP just wants to only talk about the stars, the most impactful ones.
12:00I'm just going to put it in perspective.
12:02Well, I think everybody understands the perspective.
12:04He's the fourth tight end.
12:05I never suggested he was Chig.
12:08Ever.
12:09Or even a second.
12:10Just said he was a standout.
12:12Or if Chig goes off the field or something, maybe he could feel his role better than what
12:17you think.
12:18If he makes a play in week three, they get you a big first down that keeps the drive going.
12:23I'm just telling you, he can have an impact on the team.
12:26He certainly has had an impact, I believe, on special teams.
12:30I think the disconnect is, in JP's mind, impact in JP's mind means you're going to catch 60
12:39balls, you're going to have 800 yards, you're going to be a red zone threat, you're going
12:43to score six touchdowns when, in your brain, an impact can be one big play in one game where
12:49you get 30 yards in a first down and it's critical to a drive.
12:54Yeah, thank God we have him.
12:56Yeah, that's all.
12:57Another guy, and I know you could make the same argument that, oh, maybe he only catches
13:0320 balls or something, but I'm still high on Antonio Williams, even though they brought
13:07in Diggs, and that's obviously going to take away balls coming his way.
13:11No, I think Antonio Williams is very deserving of conversation because, based on draft position
13:19and what you're hearing, he should be on the field a good amount of time.
13:23Now, Yankoff may be on the field as a special team player, but as a tight end, he's barely
13:27going to be on the field.
13:27We should see Williams play a considerable amount on Friday.
13:31And he could still be the number, I know the depth chart came out, it's got Luke McCaffrey
13:35as the number three receiver.
13:36He could still be the number three receiver right off the jump.
13:41Yeah, I don't know.
13:42I know that they're raving about Luke.
13:45I hope so, because I think Antonio Williams' ceiling is way higher.
13:49I think it's going to be like a couple seasons ago.
13:50This is what we do during training camp.
13:52This is what we do.
13:53Yeah, but I think it's okay to highlight the guys on the bottom end of the roster.
13:57Yeah, but it's good.
13:57You've got to feel good for guys like that.
13:58Maybe he doesn't want to talk about them.
13:59I didn't say I don't want to talk about them.
14:01I just said keep it in perspective.
14:02Well, it's understood.
14:03The guy's not going to see the field.
14:04Isn't it understood if you're talking about a Colson-Yankoff?
14:06Well, even Grant knows, look, Colson-Yankoff's not going to be a factor.
14:10And I said that.
14:11So, the fact that he looked good in a practice, I think it's okay to talk about it.
14:15He could be a factor, but he's just not going to be the consistent go-to guy.
14:20Correct.
14:20Yeah.
14:21Be a role player.
14:22Maybe it'd be more significant if he somehow beats out Ben Sinnott.
14:27If he beats out Ben Sinnott and they cut Ben Sinnott, that would be super significant.
14:30Because that would be, they're waving the white flag.
14:33I don't think there's any indication of that.
14:34But Sinnott right now is the number three.
14:36Yeah.
14:37I don't think there's any indication that they're going to cut Ben Sinnott.
14:40He could beat him out, eventually, and get more playing time than him, eventually.
14:45I don't think they're going to cut Ben.
14:47Two other guys that got mentioned.
14:50Diami is, you know, I think by most accounts, people have thought, overall, he's had a pretty darn good camp.
14:56He shined yesterday.
14:58And then more and more people are whispering a little bit about their fifth-round pick out of Tennessee, Joshua
15:04Josephs.
15:06So, he's raising it.
15:07And again, he's probably not going to play much, but he might make a play or two.
15:11He might have a sack or two that's impactful at some point.
15:12Listed as a backup.
15:14Yeah.
15:14Yeah.
15:14Good.
15:15And potentially, he could be a guy, maybe in three or four years.
15:17Coming up at 8 o'clock, Nicky Javala will give us more insight into the joint scrimmage
15:23between the Miami Dolphins and the Washington Commanders.
15:26That is later today.
15:28Keep it here.
15:28We're the Junkies on the fan.
