00:00State leaders across Southeast Asia gathered in Kuala Lumpur earlier this week to attend
00:10three summits, the 46th ASEAN Summit, the 2nd ASEAN Gulf Cooperation Council Summit
00:16and the inaugural ASEAN GCC China Summit.
00:22From a 20-year roadmap to high-level pledges on economic collaborations,
00:26one thing is clear, ASEAN is looking to future-proof the region for future generations,
00:32but strictly on its own terms.
00:37Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the very foundations of ASEAN were being tested by
00:42rising protectionism, the ongoing Myanmar crisis and a fragmented global order.
00:48Nevertheless, we are thankful for the spirit of centrality and the fraternity among ASEAN
00:53member states in being able to come together to forge a common front in dealing with these
00:58challenges, including the recent initiative or pronouncement on unilateral tariffs in the
01:05United States.
01:07For the first time, ASEAN foreign ministers broached the idea of appointing a permanent
01:12special envoy to Myanmar.
01:14The move has been welcomed by political analysts, including Thomas Daniel of the Institute of Strategic
01:20and International Studies, who commended ASEAN for finally recognizing the need to move beyond
01:26its ad hoc approach.
01:30Daniel said ASEAN has always demonstrated flexibility between principles and pragmatism,
01:36and the same approach should be applied when dealing with the issue of Myanmar.
01:40On the other hand, Southeast Asia's growing interest in the Gulf nations has led to a second year
01:48of the ASEAN GCC summit.
01:51In his opening remarks, Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Khalid al-Sabah, who chairs the
01:57GCC this year, revealed that two-way trade with ASEAN is expected to hit US$180 billion by
02:042032. With the two regions set to begin negotiations for a free trade agreement, Julia Roknifard from
02:12Taylor's University said ASEAN could be looking at significant investment inflows, especially if the
02:18Gulf states expand their focus beyond energy and into key sectors for ASEAN's growth.
02:25Economic integration took center stage once again at the first-ever ASEAN GCC China summit, where Chinese
02:32Premier Li Qiang pledged to bring powerful momentum to the partnership.
02:36China, China, in such a city that대
02:58To top it all off, ASEAN leaders unveiled the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on ASEAN 2045,
03:23Our Shared Future, a blueprint that lays out the bloc's vision for the next two decades.
03:30They also announced a five-year action plan to boost regional trade,
03:35freer movement of businesses and people, and attract foreign investment
03:39through regulatory reforms in industries such as mining, agriculture, and manufacturing.
03:46These strategic plans reflect ASEAN's determination to rise above global disruptions
03:52and forge ahead with unity and purpose.
