00:01I think with Joy, what has been really fun is the process is so collaborative, you can
00:07try anything.
00:08I think it was my idea in the beginning for Joy to play the accordion.
00:12I was just trying to think of stuff where she was a little too much, but her heart was
00:19in the right place.
00:20I think the jingle jangle of her has been fun to figure out physically.
00:25In the second, she wears these cute pajamas that I'm obsessed with.
00:30I think she's a little genderless, Joy, and I think there's some really fun thing to play
00:35around with the way in which she presents herself and moves.
00:39She's kind of like Tinkerbell and Peter Pan kind of together, so that was really fun to
00:45talk to the creators about and work on together.
00:48I have no idea if this is true or not.
00:50I do feel when I watch the movie that I saw some of my own hand gestures for the character
00:58in it.
00:58I would be so curious to see the videotape of me recording.
01:03I'm curious if they did use any of them or not.
01:17I'm sure they did.
01:19You really have to turn up the volume on the emotive quality of your voice when you're
01:23doing voiceover work, I think, or animation work because you're not going to be there
01:30in your body, so the emotion has to come through so clear in your voice.
01:34In order to do that, you can really end up exhausting yourself because you actually have
01:38to move your body in even crazier ways than you normally would to get your voice to go
01:42there.
01:43And so I was really happy to see little things that I recognized from my own weird self.
01:48My character taught me, and all of them, the emotions that are perceived as negative,
01:54it taught me there is value here.
01:56It is protecting me.
01:57What is it protecting me from?
01:59What is it pointing me towards?
02:01Envy.
02:01A big lesson I learned about envy is it's not bad to be jealous.
02:06It's pointing you to like, oh, I want that too.
02:09It's when it goes into overdrive that any emotion can be toxic.
02:13It's like, ooh, what do they add?
02:14They add a lot of drama and story and conflict in a good way.
02:20I think it's so funny because you start missing the original emotions.
02:24You're like, oh, remember when it was easier and you were just sad and happy and angry?
02:29These emotions feel more complex, harder to understand, and harder to predict.
02:34Yeah, I think that that's totally true.
02:36And I think that they add this amazing visualization of how our lives get more complicated.
02:43As we get older.
02:44And then I also think it's amazing how the flashes into the parents' minds show them
02:49kind of getting simpler again in ways that are almost sad or confusing ways.
02:54Like, I always want to see those movies too.
02:56Like, anxiety only pops in for a minute into mom's brain, you know, and dad's brain.
03:02And so it's like, and it shows how at the teen years, it gets very crowded up there.
03:07Like, and I think that that's the perfect demonstration of that.
03:11Yeah.
03:12My aversion to gross things.
03:14Mm-hmm.
03:15I love gross things.
03:19Yeah, I think fear, I love when I came in, because I was curious the difference between
03:25fear and anxiety.
03:26Mm-hmm.
03:26And they said fear is kind of a reaction to an actual threat.
03:30So I would react like when the sarcasm happened that was right there.
03:33And then anxiety is a perceived threat.
03:35So it's like creating scenarios of like, what ifs.
03:38And that made a lot of sense to me.
03:39And that made a lot of sense to me.
