Jose Feliciano when asked if he is a retrospective person
"Definitely, that's what music is about. You listen to a song that you heard in your past, and it ignites memories in your head. Like for example, when I hear songs like, 'I'll Take You There' by The Staple Singers. It reminds me of when I used to come out to Detroit, to meet with Susan, and she picked me up at the airport and those kinds of memories. I think of how thrilling it has been because with the cards that were dealt to me by nature, I wasn't supposed to have had a career. So I'm blessed that I have a career, I'm blessed that I have a family and you couldn't do any better than that."

00:07I mean, you are a pioneer in bilingual music, one of the first to do it, and it was seen
00:13as a risk at the time, wasn't it?
00:15Most people hadn't been able to do that successfully.
00:18What do you think led you to be able to do this confidently?
00:22Well, there was some songs, like, for example, a song called Tell Me a Story by Frankie Lane
00:31and Little Jimmy Boyd, but I thought they haven't scratched the surface, and that's why Feliz
00:41Navidad was imperative.
00:43It was important that I write it, and it was important for me to take the stones that
00:51were hurled at me and be the pioneer.
00:56I mean, you are a pioneer.
