00:00Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is getting very personal with her millions of social media
00:05followers documenting her decision to freeze her eggs. The 36-year-old New York Democrat revealed
00:10that she started the process during Congress's August recess, even posting a video of herself
00:15taking hormone injections that are required ahead of egg retrieval. AOC says that she's been saving
00:20up for the procedure and thinking about it for some time now. She described the decision as a
00:24way to give herself more control over her future. This is a choice that I am making
00:30to feel more in control of my life. And if people want to make assumptions about my decision,
00:43let them make those assumptions. I feel empowered to make this choice. AOC also connected the decision
00:52to the constant speculation about her political future, including whether or not she could run
00:57for president in 2028. She says questions about what office a politician may seek next often ignores the
01:04very personal life decisions women may be making at the same time. And when it comes to that, she is
01:09an open book. Before an appearance on ABC's This Week, AOC said that she planned to give herself one
01:13of those shots in the green room while getting ready to go on camera. The New York lawmaker says that
01:18she
01:18knows sharing something this personal could come with political risks, but hopes talking about it
01:23publicly will help normalize the conversation for other women considering the same thing.
