00:11into some of the questions that you all left in the AMA last night and I'll try to get some
00:17quick
00:18answers out and as this process continues I will film more dedicated videos that go in depth into
00:24any one of these questions. So cutting straight to the chase this was one of the things that was
00:28most stressful for me as well when I was considering doing this is cost. My insurance does not cover
00:35one penny of this. It is 100% out of pocket. It doesn't go to my deductible. Nothing. It covers
00:44nothing. So there's two main sources of costs. So you don't just like pay one lump sum to the doctor.
00:52You pay for the medicine and then you also pay your clinic and for the procedure. So there's two
00:58costs of it. Some places are very expensive. I'm going to a place in New York City that specifically
01:10designs options for women who don't have insurance covering it and so my grand total personally for
01:19me all in is going to be probably between eight to nine thousand dollars. There are places less and
01:25now that's the headline. However if you are like me and in a position a couple years ago where you
01:31were
01:31kind of really stressed about that cost there's a couple of things to keep in mind. One is that
01:37a big variable of your cost is your medication and your medication it's not the same medication
01:45for everybody. It is really based on your individual situation. So your doses may be more expensive.
01:54Your doses may be less expensive. And on top of that because our medical system is so broken
02:02I shopped around. There are some pharmacies that were quoting me seven grand when I gave them my
02:11insurance information even though my insurance doesn't cover any of this medicine that then when
02:17I paid out of pocket that price went down to three grand. I checked at Costco. Different pharmacies
02:24give different prices too. So the medication piece for me is costing me about thirty five hundred dollars
02:31let's say around ballpark there. And that's the one bucket. But other pharmacies would probably quote you
02:41different numbers. The other piece of this is the actual clinic and procedure and your provider and a lot of
02:50clinics actually don't require you to pay in a lump sum. I saved a long time for this and so
02:58I'm just paying for it
03:01outright after years of saving. But there are clinics that do offer kind of a payment plan for people who
03:12need to pursue this or want to pursue this and want financial options. I'm not here to advocate for any
03:20of that. That's a decision for you to make but but that's the different clinics will have different prices
03:29because they their care model is different and so some clinics will charge you fifteen to sixteen thousand
03:37dollars. Others will charge less and on top of this because of our medical system is broken in the way
03:48that it is because we neglect covering women's care and women's fertility care there's also the option
03:55that I and I know people who have pursued this who have frozen their eggs outside of the United States
04:01in places like Spain or Mexico and some of you all have even talked about the fact that some of
04:09you all
04:09have frozen your eggs in places like Spain for four thousand dollars all in medication clinic. Oh and on top
04:17of that you have to pay to store your eggs too and so I'd be paying about twelve hundred dollars
04:21a year
04:22to keep my eggs frozen after that but some people and so when it comes to cost one thing that
04:28I want to
04:29say is that I know that those numbers for a lot of people can feel paralyzing and just talking about
04:38money in general can be a very emotionally intense thing.
04:46not long ago in my life I was working as a waitress in downtown Manhattan and
04:55that like the thought of that was so
04:59paralyzing and then when you actually pair that with all of the horrible rhetoric that we as women
05:05are fed as a society about our fertility etc it's easy for to feel frozen
05:13and like a failure right like if I either can't afford this or if I or if I can't afford
05:20it then
05:20I'm going to have a negative consequence and I want to push back on that real quick. Number one
05:27there is so much negative messaging that is directed towards women around our family choices period
05:37kind of no matter what choice you make if you have kids when you have kids whatever
05:44there's so much negativity and it is designed to
05:49dysregulate women to put us in a place of fear or insecurity
05:54so that we are making choices out of that place. We're not doing that.
05:59all of these men oftentimes who are saying oh if you haven't had a kid by 30 like you're done
06:09it it's just not supported. Don't trust that these people who are writing abortion laws that don't even
06:18understand the first thing about a woman's body tell you about how many eggs you have at what age
06:23they don't even understand about egg health or anything. Number two
06:28it's also not an all or nothing
06:32prospect. My number one piece of advice is that if you're curious about this if you're not sure about cost
06:39if you're if you're on the fence about if this is something you want to do or not
06:43a great small step you can take
06:46that can really empower you
06:50is to
06:51get your fertility checked
06:53and that can be anywhere between $100
06:57and $400 to do. I've seen people do it for $100

07:03it's a little bit of blood work
07:04and an ultrasound
07:05they will give you your follicle count
07:08and then
07:09some short time after that
07:11they will give you something known as an AMH level
07:14in your blood which is like it it's a general kind of ballpark around your fertility
07:20and it is so empowering to receive that information because you can make a choice based on
07:25you
07:26all right everyone

07:50so there are a lot of very different reasons why
07:54someone would choose to freeze their eggs
07:57one is
07:59sometimes something like a cancer diagnosis
08:01thank god
08:02that is not something that I have
08:04um
08:05received but
08:07if you
08:08are
08:09diagnosed with cancer
08:11or have a cancer scare
08:12the chemotherapy
08:13um
08:15can threaten your
08:16egg reserve
08:17and so some people that have a recent cancer diagnosis
08:21some of you have written in
08:21and talked about this
08:23um
08:23means that you will freeze your eggs
08:25so that you have the option to have a child later
08:27after you go through treatment
08:29another
08:30is sometimes not
08:31you don't freeze your eggs for your first kid
08:33but sometimes
08:35you want the option
08:36to maybe
08:37have an easier time
08:38conceiving for your
08:39second
08:40or third
08:41or fourth child
08:42and so
08:43sometimes it's just the option
08:45to be able to grow a family
08:47at a later date
08:48um
08:48not even at the
08:49immediate
08:50a third reason could be
08:51ambiguity
08:52maybe you aren't sure if you want kids or not
08:54and
08:55you freeze your eggs
08:56to
08:57preserve a little bit of optionality
09:00for yourself
09:00a fourth reason
09:01could be that
09:02you know
09:03there are a lot of women out there
09:05that really want to be moms
09:06and are really looking for their person
09:09and so much of this
09:11discussion around parenthood
09:12and fertility
09:13is focused on women
09:14but
09:16some
09:17it takes two to tango
09:18and
09:19they haven't found their person
09:21they haven't found a man
09:22that they think
09:23would be a suitable partner
09:24or father
09:25or a partner in general
09:27regardless of gender
09:28and
09:29they want
09:30to have
09:31a little bit of breathing room
09:33so that they don't feel pressured
09:34to enter
09:35parenthood with someone
09:36that they wouldn't otherwise choose
09:38um
09:39and
09:40last is
09:40genetic testing
09:41some people
09:42are carriers
09:42for severe genetic conditions
09:44and
09:45you can freeze your eggs
09:47to
09:48maximize
09:49viability
09:50quite a few people
09:52have asked
09:52um
09:53how long

09:55stay good for

09:57the answer

13:35And that's on people saying women are too emotional to lead, because I was able to keep my cool
13:40in a national interview minutes after being injected with plenty of extra hormones, and
13:48I was fine.
13:49In fact, probably kept them more level ahead than some of my lovely male colleagues across
13:53government that you see.
13:56And also, so many of them talk about injecting testosterone and are obsessed with it.
14:01And no one bats an eye at that.
14:07People need hormones also for all sorts of different reasons.
