00:00Napoleon's entire life in 60 seconds. Did you know a boy mocked for his foreign
00:04accent would one day crown himself Emperor of France? Napoleon Bonaparte was
00:08born in Corsica in 1769, just one year after France took control of the island.
00:13At military school, other students laughed at his accent and his family's poverty.
00:17He ignored them and studied obsessively. When the French Revolution tore the
00:21country apart, Napoleon saw his opening. His battlefield genius turned chaos into
00:26victory after victory. By 1804, he placed the crown on his own head, refusing to
00:32let anyone else do it. He rewrote laws, reshaped borders, and built an empire
00:37stretching across most of Europe. Then came Russia. In 1812, he marched more than
00:42600,000 soldiers into the frozen east. The Russian winter killed them by the
00:47thousands. He retreated in disgrace. His enemies closed in. He was defeated and
00:52exiled to Elba. He escaped, raised another army, and fought one final battle at
00:57Waterloo in 1815. He lost. This time, there was no escape. He died alone on a
01:03remote island in the South Atlantic in 1821. He conquered nations, but he could
01:08not conquer his own hunger for more.
