Security cameras captured a group of Asian elephants moving around an electric vehicle charging station in Pu’er, in China’s Yunnan province.
The security footage shows the young elephant near the equipment as it tries to free itself from the cable. After the calf manages to move away, an adult elephant — described in social media posts as likely being its mother — approaches the station and knocks over one of the charging points with a push.
The unusual encounter involving Asian elephants and electric vehicle infrastructure drew attention on social media in China. A group of wild elephants entered a charging station in Pu’er, Yunnan province, where one of the calves became tangled in the cable of a charger.
