00:00:00There is a famous Japanese proverb.
00:00:08Translated, it means,
00:00:10As the cherry blossom is among flowers, so is the samurai among men.
00:00:16A cherry blossom's life is brief and fragile, and so too is a warrior's.
00:00:22For true greatness is measured by honour, integrity,
00:00:26and how nobly you live, not by how long you live.
00:00:31It's been nearly 150 years since the last samurai fell.
00:00:37Today the cherry blossom is etched into the armour of a new generation of warriors,
00:00:44driven by the same sense of duty,
00:00:47the belief that the collective must always come before the individual.
00:00:53For a cherry blossom does not fight the wind,
00:00:56nor does it cling to the branch.
00:00:58It falls knowing the tree endures through its sacrifice.
00:01:04For this new generation of wallabies,
00:01:07this chapter first began two decades ago,
00:01:11when a young apprentice sought the wisdom of a master.
00:01:15What ensued was a four-hour conversation,
00:01:19one so profound that to this day,
00:01:22Les Kiss attributes it to the launch of his rugby coaching career.
00:01:27I had a meeting with Eddie, and suddenly I immersed myself in Australian rugby.
00:01:30Jones has been touted as the coach that took a sword to our side.
00:01:34Australia will exit in the pool stages.
00:01:38But for Les Kiss, Jones has always been a mentor.
00:01:42The tale of Jones and Kiss is one filled with twists and turns.
00:01:46Eddie Jones is ready to accept the head coaching job in Japan.
00:01:50Les Kiss will succeed Joe Schmidt as the next wallabies coach.
00:01:53A relationship that has spanned decades.
00:01:57Cross codes and competition.
00:01:59I've had a lot of good people on the line in rugby league,
00:02:01in rugby union, that helped me get there.
00:02:03I'm really proud of what I've done to get to this position.
00:02:06Tonight, Les Kiss, in his first turnout as wallabies coach,
00:02:11will face the man he credits his career to.
00:02:14In the words of his mentor Eddie Jones,
00:02:16Kiss will favour defence.
00:02:18On the Basel Pier, there is no room for hesitation.
00:02:24To honour your master, you must pass Sapa's hip.
00:02:29This is Japan versus Australia.
00:02:32This is the old guard versus the new.
00:02:37Live from Osaka, Japan.
00:02:39And it begins now, on your home of rugby stands for.
00:02:44All international rugby teams are starting to sharpen their blades
00:02:48as the road to Rugby World Cup 2027 narrows.
00:02:52And tonight, a new era of Australian rugby begins.
00:02:55The Les Kiss era.
00:02:57Australia taking on Japan live from Hanazono Stadium in Osaka.
00:03:01And it is sweltering conditions here in the Kansai region.
00:03:06Upwards of 38 degrees during the day,
00:03:09but it's dropped considerably in the last hour or so,
00:03:13down to 30.
00:03:14That's still pretty warm, though.
00:03:15So it'll be ice packs aplenty for all the players out there today.
00:03:20Andrew Swain in commentary and joined by Wallabies legends
00:03:23Tim Horan and Michael Hooper.
00:03:26Hoops, good evening to you, mate.
00:03:28This Japan team, very, very dangerous, aren't they?
00:03:31Yeah, thanks, Swain.
00:03:32Eddie Jones has picked a solid team tonight for this match-up.
00:03:37Just getting a look inside there, change rooms now.
00:03:41Okabe, Ira and Takauchi in the front road.
00:03:44Aussie Bourne, Cornelison alongside Warner Derns.
00:03:47How good was he in the Hurricane Super Rugby title this year?
00:03:51Gunter Shimakawa.
00:03:53Makisi from the Kubota team.
00:03:56Kubota Spears up in the Japan top league competition.
00:04:00It'll be a formidable pack tonight now to the back line.
00:04:05Saito and Ito.
00:04:06Ito, the young star Eddie Jones is talking so much about.
00:04:10In the centre is Tua and Riley.
00:04:11Aussie Bourne Riley, a real threat there in midfield
00:04:14with May and Yueta and Matsunaga rounding out the back three
00:04:17in this starting Japan team.
00:04:20And a look at the bench as well.
00:04:22And you'll notice an Australian face in that one.
00:04:27Harry Hockings, who is now well and truly entrenched
00:04:31in this Japan rugby system.
00:04:33And Tim Horan, what about this Aussie team?
00:04:35Yeah, the first test match for new head coach Les Kirsten
00:04:39picked a strong forward pack.
00:04:40Aidan Ross, Josh Nash, he gets a chance at number two again.
00:04:43Josh Canham and Myles Amatisero.
00:04:45Josh Canham coming off a hat-trick in the last test match
00:04:49against Italy.
00:04:50And Myles Amatisero, his first start in a gold jersey,
00:04:53came off the bench against Italy.
00:04:55And then, of course, we know the back row.
00:04:57Valentini, Harry Wilson and Fraser McWright.
00:05:00Ryan Lonnigan at nine.
00:05:01Declan Meredith gets his third start in a row at number 10.
00:05:05Hannah Paisami, his first chance this year in a gold jersey
00:05:08at number 12, partnering Joseph Okuso-Sualii.
00:05:12Max Jorgenton on the wing.
00:05:13And then, of course, Tom Wright at number 15.
00:05:16And it's a welcome return to Charlie Cale.
00:05:18He comes off the bench in jersey number 20.
00:05:21And a debut.
00:05:22Wallaby number 999.
00:05:24Isaac Henry, if he gets on today,
00:05:27will become Wallaby 999.
00:05:29What an opportunity for him.
00:05:32And it is a packed-out crowd here.
00:05:34And look at that man, Tim Horan, Quaid Cooper.
00:05:37Yeah, Quaid Cooper.
00:05:38This is his home ground.
00:05:40Tetsu, he played here with Wilginia.
00:05:43He was coached by Nick Stiles for many years as well.
00:05:45Former Wallaby player.
00:05:47And Quaid Cooper spent some time with the Wallabies this week at training.
00:05:51Just having a bit of a chat to them.
00:05:52So, opportunity for Quaid Cooper to watch his Wallaby team here in Osaka.
00:05:59Not retired yet, according to Quaid Cooper.
00:06:03And the Aussies getting set to come out on the field.
00:06:06They'll be joined by the Japan team as well.
00:06:08Eddie Jones coached.
00:06:10And a big crowd here as well.
00:06:12Michael Hooper.
00:06:13It's a great little stadium here in Hunter's Honour.
00:06:18Yeah, you heard from Morgan Turunui earlier.
00:06:21It's plummeted about seven or eight degrees.
00:06:23It is a cool little stadium over there in Osaka.
00:06:26Built for rugby union.
00:06:28Crowd feels on top of you.
00:06:30Different environment for this Wallaby team to play tonight.
00:06:33Obviously, so many storylines coming into this match.
00:06:36New coach.
00:06:37Team selection, pretty same-same, Timmy.
00:06:40No huge surprises there.
00:06:43It'll be interesting to see early in the first 20 minutes
00:06:47the brand and the style that Les Kiss wants to play.
00:06:50Joe Smith, the former Wallaby coach,
00:06:53has laid a wonderful foundation and platform for Les Kiss to take this team further.
00:07:00The Wallaby's haven't had a win on the road since their match in Japan last year.
00:07:05So, looking to break new ground here in 2026.
00:07:10Warner Derns, the captain of Japan.
00:07:14Watching on as they hit the turf of Hanazono Stadium here in Osaka.
00:07:23The Wallaby's up against Japan.
00:07:25The Wallaby's up against Japan.
00:07:35The Wallaby's up against Japan.
00:07:36Hot conditions.
00:07:38Just over 30 degrees.
00:07:40So, there'll be a 20-minute water break in each half.
00:07:44Eddie Jones, he likes a fast-paced game of rugby.
00:07:48That's what he'll be looking for from his team.
00:07:51And the players talking about it earlier this week.
00:07:53It was like pre-season at Ballymore for a lot of them.
00:08:00So, it is sweltering.
00:08:05And a pressure cooker environment for this Wallaby's team.
00:08:11All right, just a few days ago,
00:08:12an earthquake shook the Kumamoto prefecture in Japan.
00:08:16So, now we'll pause to remember the victims.
00:08:19And then we'll have the anthems.
00:08:35Thank you for joining us at the Hanazono Rugby Stadium.
00:08:39Before the start of the match,
00:08:41please join us in a moment of silence
00:08:42for those who have lost their lives
00:08:44in the 2026 Kumamoto earthquake.
00:08:47Please rise if you are able.
00:08:52Mokuto.
00:08:53Mokuto.
00:09:14Thank you for your cooperation.
00:09:21Thank you for your cooperation.
00:09:28And now, the singing of the National Anthems.
00:09:36The National Anthem of Australia.
00:10:00Australian soul and hearts, we judge.
00:10:05For we are warm and free.

00:13:36Das Team 9-10, Lonergan, Meredith, und wie sie mit dem Threaten sind.
00:13:42Owen Kross, Irish Referee this evening.
00:13:46Der Mann mit der Whistle.
00:13:48Warner Derns.
00:13:49Gee, he hat ihn in excellent Form.
00:13:53Through Super Rugby mit den Hurrikans.
00:13:55Und dann in der internationalen Season.
00:13:58Mit Japan.
00:13:59Mit Japan, drei Tests.
00:14:01Italy, Irland, und France.
00:14:05So, we're finished with the Joe Smith era.
00:14:08Now, the Les Kiss era starts.
00:14:17Countdown!
00:14:32Underway in Osaka.
00:14:35The first test of the Les Kiss era.
00:14:38And a man in tremendous form, Josh Canham.
00:14:41Catches it above his head and takes the first contact.
00:14:47Alalatoa, the settling carry.
00:14:50And familiar sight.
00:14:54Lonergan clearing from the base.
00:14:56And sideline is Morgan Turanui.
00:14:59Morgs, still warm conditions out there.
00:15:02It is, gents.
00:15:03It's dropped, as Michael Hooper said.
00:15:05But the humidity has jumped up.
00:15:07And...
00:15:11And...
00:15:12Derns wins the ball up high.
00:15:15First chance here for Japan.
00:15:17Gunter.
00:15:18The bone-rattling carry.
00:15:20In the midfield.
00:15:22And they spin it wide early.
00:15:24Weta.
00:15:25Not in the wide channels.
00:15:27On that right wing.
00:15:29Watch him all night.
00:15:30Kizuma Oueda.
00:15:31Kizuma Oueda.
00:15:31Kizuma Oueda.
00:15:33Seven's background.
00:15:36Shinokawa.
00:15:37Good link man.
00:15:38And now,
00:15:40just weighing up his options.
00:15:42There was Dylan Riley.
00:15:43No hands, no.
00:15:44Another Aussie.
00:15:46As Alalatoa drives through.
00:15:48Last Australia.
00:15:50Saito has to just...
00:15:52He was a bit of patience there at the breakdown.
00:16:00Nachisi, Kubota Spears, he is a man who loves the collision.
00:16:05Likewise, this man, Ben Gunter, the continuity here for Japan.
00:16:13Wilson reads the inside ball there to Derns well.
00:16:17Now Ito goes high, a tester here for Wright.
00:16:22And it comes off in Japan's hand and goes into touch.
00:16:26Yes, a good early play by this Japanese team.
00:16:30Moving ball well.
00:16:31Good variation in their attack.
00:16:33Good urgency to the breakdown.
00:16:35There you see Ito go to the air.
00:16:37Pressure on Tom Wright.
00:16:39Timmy, see who that came off there?
00:16:44Ueda on the right-hand wing for Japan.
00:16:48So that's why the Wallabies throw to the line.
00:16:50Good start.
00:16:51Express pace from the Japanese team very early.
00:16:56Nasser hits Canham.
00:16:58And Lonergan has to go down to the boot laces to collect that one.
00:17:02Canham fired it down.
00:17:06Once again, Lonergan.
00:17:08Looking to get a bit more purchase off this time.
00:17:11And he does well.
00:17:15All right, Lonergan making sure he finds touch.
00:17:18Second one, he made sure he kicked the ball into the stand.
00:17:22And he's trying to defend the line, a shorter line-out for the Japanese team.
00:17:27A couple of runners midfield.
00:17:30He's stopped.
00:17:32This time they contest.
00:17:34And it was Cornelison winning the ball at line-out time.
00:17:41with his first carry for Japan.
00:17:49At the back, Saito.
00:17:52Inside ball.
00:17:53That is a big shot there.
00:17:54Hunter Paisami read it beautifully.
00:17:57And puts a big tackle in.
00:17:59But this is a lovely little touch finder there from their little master, Naoto Saito.
00:18:15In the midfield, Les Kiss, so trusting of Paisami through the Reds' regular season.
00:18:24It's not a shock appearance to see him in there at 12 and let Iketao out for a couple of
00:18:28weeks.
00:18:32She heard there.
00:18:33If they're on the map, I asked him, you can step over the gap, OK?
00:18:36Owen Cross say they took it back into their own half.
00:18:39So no 50-22.
00:18:41Different to the Super Rugby rules.
00:18:44Laws.
00:18:47Canham wins that one.
00:18:49And now Valentini.
00:18:51Wallabies have been camped in the Japan half his first five minutes.
00:18:56And now Lonergan again.
00:18:58Into fine touch.
00:19:00He does well.
00:19:00And takes play right up to halfway.
00:19:04What are you seeing early on on the sideline?
00:19:06Morgan Tuanui.
00:19:08I think just as you guys have mentioned, it's...
00:19:11Wallabies don't want to flinch first.
00:19:12They don't want to play too much in their own zone.
00:19:14I think you'll hear Lonergan kicking the ball a lot.
00:19:17Les Kiss has his full coaching contingent up in the box.
00:19:19And that's what they're working on.
00:19:20Getting out of their zone efficiently.
00:19:23Cornelison wins it at the front.
00:19:25The name previously synonymous with Australian rugby is Gunter goes up the middle.
00:19:32Wallabies were cleaning that out.
00:19:33Looking for the counter ruck.
00:19:34And it left a bit of space there for Gunter.
00:19:37But he lost it.
00:19:39It's been lost at the breakdown.
00:19:41So it'll be a Wallabies scrum.
00:19:46He's so good at that, Ben Gunter.
00:19:48Pick and go through the middle.
00:19:51Played his junior rugby in Gunnedah with Harry Wilson, the skipper for the Wallabies.
00:19:57The Gunnedah Red Devils.
00:19:59It's going to be a really good matchup in the back row tonight.
00:20:03Now, a great little opportunity for the Wallabies here.
00:20:10Ryan Lonergan talking to Declan Meredith and Tom Wright behind the Wallabies scrum.
00:20:35Two messages.
00:20:39Break foot needs to stay on.
00:20:41Break foot stay on.
00:20:42Wait, be patient. Wait for Seth. Break foot.
00:20:47Yeah, but if I see a better one of that, I can deal with that, okay?
00:20:51It's going to be interesting to see what this Wallaby's attack does.
00:20:56First real touch of the ball.
00:20:59Do they look to run? Do they look to kick?
00:21:01Please go left. Step over you as well. Thank you.
00:21:04What's Meredith and Ryan Lonergan talking about here?
00:21:09Maybe apply some pressure, get into Japan's red zone, make them exit.
00:21:14All pressure's been on Wallabies so far. Do they run the ball?
00:21:21Boyd!
00:21:23Set!
00:21:28So what will the Wallabies do here? Look to attack.
00:21:30Lonergan takes the first few steps off the deck, and that one, a bounce pass out to Potter,
00:21:37who looks to beat his man on the outside.
00:21:39Bit of footwork there on Ueda.
00:21:46Valentini getting good front football.
00:21:49Likewise, McRights.
00:21:52Meredith to Ross, who pops a little ball out the back to...
00:21:57Two knock-ons, first play Australia.
00:21:58Joseph Okuso Suali'i lose his first touch tonight, so it'll be a Japan Scrum.
00:22:08Nice play down the left-hand side from the centre-field Scrum for the Wallabies.
00:22:12You can see they had four attackers on only three defenders.
00:22:16That's a really good set of...
00:22:17Hanna Paisami put that long ball right to left.
00:22:20Very good last one.
00:22:21That's the standard.
00:22:22So make sure we start left.
00:22:24No, here's our marks are just there.
00:22:26And you here, please.
00:22:27Thank you.
00:22:27Wallabies got deep into the Japanese half then, and putting some pressure on Dylan Riley.
00:22:32He's marking Joseph Okuso Suali.
00:22:36Dylan Riley played in the Aussie 20s, and then decided to make his way over to play club football in
00:22:42Japan.
00:22:59And now the Wallabies looking to drive through.
00:23:07Joseph Suali'i.
00:23:12Not under ball.
00:23:13Counter-ruck from the Wallabies.
00:23:16A bit of a feature in this first 10 minutes.
00:23:19Vantage.
00:23:21Multi-release.
00:23:23Didn't release his man.
00:23:24Chance for Japan now to play.
00:23:27Kicking in behind, looking for the bounce, and Main gets it.
00:23:31Inside ball to Ito.
00:23:32Running onto it is Saito, and Riley's after it.
00:23:36Potter gets back to save the day.
00:23:40Kicking in behind, looking for the ball to play.
00:23:40Exciting play from Japan.
00:23:45At the left edge.
00:23:49Exploited.
00:23:52Now Lonegan has to clear from right on his own goal line.
00:23:56He puts it high.
00:23:57He will stay in the field of play.
00:23:59Chance to counter now for Japan.
00:24:00From inside there, Aide.
00:24:03Ha!
00:24:03And, oh, what about that run back there from Rueda.
00:24:06He's so exciting.
00:24:09Tua straightening now.
00:24:12Hats away!
00:24:13Rockford.
00:24:13Wallabies under the pump.
00:24:15Derns.
00:24:17Upended.
00:24:19He's trapped.
00:24:20Ross trying to roll away.
00:24:22Ito.
00:24:25Ito.
00:24:26Main.
00:24:27Dummy there from Matsunaga.
00:24:31Go same way.
00:24:33Riley.
00:24:34Down the edge.
00:24:36It's lost forward.
00:24:38And now Canham.
00:24:39Gets a big right boot on it.
00:24:44Where's the chase?
00:24:48Canham's there.
00:24:49Chasing.
00:24:52Just gets the ankle tap.
00:24:53But not before the pass gets away to Matsunaga.
00:24:59Saito.
00:25:02McKissie.
00:25:04That is going to be his play all day.
00:25:06Straight up the middle.
00:25:08Saito.
00:25:10It's touched on.
00:25:11It's touched by Canham.
00:25:14And Suali.
00:25:16Can't collect it.
00:25:17And now Kornelson.
00:25:19Gallops upfield.
00:25:21And into the 22 they go.
00:25:25But they went straight off their feet.
00:25:27Don't touch him.
00:25:28And that is a real let off for the Wallabies.
00:25:32They tap and go quickly.
00:25:34McRite.
00:25:35They lose it.
00:25:37It's frantic play from both these teams at the moment.
00:25:4211 minutes in.
00:25:45And the Japanese team are turning up the heat.
00:25:49Here in a hot Osaka Kanazono Stadium.
00:25:54They take play into the 22.
00:25:59Saito.
00:26:00Rallying his troops.
00:26:03Ito now.
00:26:04Oh beautiful feet from Ito.
00:26:06Oh he's a superstar this kid.
00:26:09And he scores the first try.
00:26:11He stood up for Wallabies defenders and puts the ball down under the posts.
00:26:19Oh what an amazing passage of play.
00:26:23Need to go back and see how long Ball was actually in play for.
00:26:27Quick taps.
00:26:29Changes of possession.
00:26:31But this is the finish to it here.
00:26:32Tired.
00:26:32Men out his feet.
00:26:33Harry Wilson just done for great footwork by Ito.
00:26:36What a great finish there by that young fly half.
00:26:40Superstar in the making.
00:26:42Uneased fourth test match.
00:26:4321 years of age.
00:26:45Eddie Jones has got huge raps on this young kid.
00:26:49Took on the defensive line.
00:26:50The Wallabies were out on their feet.
00:26:53That's typical Eddie Jones rugby.
00:26:55Hold the ball and fatigue the defence.
00:27:04Oh.
00:27:05Gotta catch the breath after that.
00:27:067-0 Japan lead.
00:27:09Well if they didn't understand it during the week when they prepped this match.
00:27:12Now they do the Wallabies.
00:27:13They've been suckered into playing exactly how Japan want to.
00:27:17They want to play off the back of kicks and unstructured.
00:27:19They're happy to play tight and slow when they must.
00:27:21But they want to put acceleration in the game.
00:27:24On transition.
00:27:25And when the ball is unstructured.
00:27:27They found slow fatigue Wallaby defenders.
00:27:30Exactly how Japan want to play this game.
00:27:33And the man upstairs Eddie Jones must be very satisfied with that first score.
00:27:37Ito.
00:27:38He still hasn't played a game of pro rugby at club level.
00:27:45And he's in his fourth test match.
00:27:49To Japan.
00:27:51And he scores the first try.
00:27:55Well fielded there by Tom Wright.
00:27:59Oh, what about the footwork from Tom Wright.
00:28:01Speaking of.
00:28:01And now Meredith.
00:28:06Takes play into contact.
00:28:09Wallaby's trying to get their shape.
00:28:11And this one knocks into the hands of Hunter Paisami.
00:28:16Paisami looks to beat the man on the outside.
00:28:18He does.
00:28:19And takes play into the 22.
00:28:21The Wallaby's first entry now.
00:28:25They've got a line up to the left if they can get it there.
00:28:29Suali'i draws to pass.
00:28:32Canham cut back in field.
00:28:33Now Potter winding up.
00:28:35And Potter beats everyone.
00:28:37And there's the reply.
00:28:42Unstructured play.
00:28:44It comes up.
00:28:45Trump's for the Wallaby's this time.
00:28:48I'll put that down to the run from Hunter Paisami on the right edge.
00:28:53Dylan Riley just got a handle with Paisami.
00:28:56Gets through Manasanga.
00:28:58And then stays on his feet.
00:29:00Lays the ball back.
00:29:02You can hear the Wallaby screaming.
00:29:03It's on out wide.
00:29:04It's on out wide.
00:29:05They're all trying to get it there.
00:29:06Nice play from Joseph Suali.
00:29:09To be able to see there was space there.
00:29:11And then Potter.
00:29:12Yes, I'm just going to go straight ahead.
00:29:13He gets through two, three, four players.
00:29:16And the Wallaby's respond.
00:29:18He's got absolute express pace.
00:29:20Doesn't he, Harry Potter?
00:29:20That's a couple of big plays from him early in this game.
00:29:23Two down the edge.
00:29:25Covered across in defence.
00:29:28Good start.
00:29:29Good hit back from this Wallaby team.
00:29:32Harry Potter had an outstanding game against Italy.
00:29:34And he's carried that form on as Lonegan locks everything up.
00:29:42Well, they've got a little bit of luck.
00:29:43And that's what you need to change momentum in a game.
00:29:46Tyler, I mean, nearly got the intercept.
00:29:48And he could have been away on the edge.
00:29:50And as you mentioned, Tim, Hunter, by some exactly what the Wallaby's there.
00:29:54There is space in the far 15s if Australia can compress the defence
00:29:58and hold their depth a little bit.
00:30:02There's KISS feverishly taking notes.
00:30:11Seven points apiece.
00:30:15Fifteen gone.
00:30:18Stopping for rounds.
00:30:19It's all here, seven.
00:30:20Meredith looking for touch.
00:30:23Not quite yet too many metres on that one.
00:30:27Loving the lead-up to that try.
00:30:29Work from Max Jorgensen to get in behind.
00:30:32Get the ball to space.
00:30:34Was he very demanding?
00:30:35I think it was of Bobby Valentini.
00:30:37Get that ball out the back and then move it through the hands out the back line.
00:30:41It's good work from Max coming off his wing.
00:30:43Derns wins the line-out.
00:30:45Gunto with the pass.
00:30:50And Saito changes the point of attack.
00:30:54Ito running some real angles, this Japan team, but the Wallabies stick solid.
00:31:00Good work.
00:31:00Tackle there for Ross, and that is a big shot.
00:31:04Coming in from Hamato Saro in his first start in a Wallabies jersey.
00:31:11Kata Okabe lost it in that contact, so another Wallabies scrum.
00:31:20Les KISS, the head coach, has got some assistant coaches in.
00:31:23Former All Black Scott McLeod and the defensive line at the moment for the Wallabies.
00:31:29They're not rushing up in defence, but they've certainly got their line intact across the field.
00:31:35They know what's coming at them.
00:31:37There's in ball, there's out ball, there's switches.
00:31:39If you hold your line hoops, that defensive line for the Wallabies,
00:31:42they're putting the ball carry under pressure.
00:31:45Yeah, certainly working well as a unit,
00:31:47particularly with some of those weird angles,
00:31:49different angles, I should say, that the Japanese team are running there.
00:31:53Clearly a set-piece move on that second phase.
00:31:55Try and pick apart defenders back on the inside.
00:32:00Maybe they noted the inside space that was created from Ito earlier.
00:32:05Inside Harry Wilson on that initial try for this Japanese team.
00:32:09Wallabies scrum, however, has been looking good so far.
00:32:13You know some of the power that you've got coming late in this game.
00:32:17On Wallabies bench.
00:32:18See how that builds.
00:32:22Set.
00:32:24Height.
00:32:26Height.
00:32:29Even looking scrum as Meredith juggles this one and loses it forward.
00:32:34So that's an unforced error there.
00:32:37As we approach the 20-minute mark.
00:32:38Well, you watch how Morgan Tooney, watch how close that Harry,
00:32:43that's Hannah Paisami, gets to the defensive line
00:32:45and just puts Declan under a little bit of pressure.
00:32:47Should take those.
00:32:50Yeah, you're dead right there, Tim.
00:32:51A couple of times just that ball out the back,
00:32:53which is going to be so effective, they haven't got it right.
00:32:55Once again, hold depth, maybe some comms out the back.
00:32:58Just the basics under some trying conditions now with the humidity.
00:33:02You mentioned ball in play for that first try.
00:33:04It was over three minutes, Michael Hooper,
00:33:06if you count that Fraser McRodd quick tap.
00:33:08So very much playing into that fatigue
00:33:11that Japan want to put the Wallabies into.
00:33:16Getting close to there'll be a water break after 20 minutes,
00:33:20which is the heat.
00:33:23And Osaka.
00:33:26Crouch!
00:33:26Crouch!
00:33:29Bind!
00:33:33Set!
00:33:38Sideways, use it.
00:33:40Go it up.
00:33:41Everyone stands up.
00:33:42Japan going to use it this time.
00:33:48Waiter getting involved plenty in this game as McKesey.
00:33:53Once it's straight into contact,
00:33:54it's been weasel stripped there by Meredith.
00:33:58And ball is in the hands of Tom Wright.
00:34:00He looks in behind.
00:34:01There's no one back there looking for a 50-22.
00:34:04Chase is good here from Potter as well.
00:34:07And it's lost forward.
00:34:08Potter picks it up.
00:34:10Loddingan overran it.
00:34:11It was there to be popped.
00:34:13Now he has to push it backwards.
00:34:16And playing the ball on the ground needed to release it immediately and didn't.
00:34:21That's just very good counteract from this Japanese team working back.
00:34:24See the ball spat out of Dylan Riley's hands.
00:34:28Harry Potter picks it up.
00:34:30This doesn't look good for the Japanese player.
00:34:32They didn't get a number there, Timmy.
00:34:33Yep.
00:34:33Samasone Tua.
00:34:35I'm pretty sure it was.
00:34:36Got cleaned out just as he threw this pass here.
00:34:39Watch this hit from Hanapai Sami.
00:34:42And Tua lay on the ground.
00:34:43Hardly moved.
00:34:45That's why they put the kick in.
00:34:47They had numbers in behind.
00:34:50Well, if it wasn't the three minutes of ball in play to make sure you're alive,
00:34:54I'm sure a Hunter Paisami hit like that will.
00:34:58So now the water break.
00:34:59Michael Hooper, three-minute water breaks with the heat measures in play.
00:35:04These are World Rugby Protocols.
00:35:07And with a three-minute water break,
00:35:09an opportunity to talk about what's been a wonderful start to a series over in South Africa,
00:35:16the All Blacks tour of South Africa.
00:35:18Oh, it's been great, hasn't it?
00:35:19Of course, they're going to play four matches and then four test matches as well.
00:35:25So their first game against the Stormers, always a tough opposition to play.
00:35:29So if you haven't seen this, jump on to Stan Sport and have a look at the highlights
00:35:33or watch the match.
00:35:34It was close early.
00:35:35And then the All Blacks scooted away in the last 10 or 15 minutes,
00:35:3938 points to 21 over in Caketown.
00:35:43Yeah, it's going to be a tremendous series and it was a terrific start.
00:35:47And they've got plenty of matches to come as well.
00:35:51What about next match that they play against the Sharks?
00:35:54One Ma'a Nonu named in the 23.
00:35:57What's Ma'a now, about 43?
00:35:5844 years of age.
00:36:00Yeah.
00:36:01It defies belief, doesn't it?
00:36:02What a cool storyline.
00:36:03That will be the great man that's going to take the field against his old countrymen.
00:36:09How exciting.
00:36:10So they'll play the Sharks, then the Bulls, and then the Lions.
00:36:14And then, of course, four test matches.
00:36:16Three in South Africa and one away in the USA.
00:36:19Yeah, Baltimore.
00:36:21Here's a look back to Osaka.
00:36:23These two 10s, two exciting 10s.
00:36:27One very young one, a little bit more experienced, but in the early stages of both of their test careers.
00:36:34I think you look at Declan Meredith, just needs to get a few more touches.
00:36:38Just needs to probably maybe tuck one under his arm and carry one early.
00:36:43First 20 minutes hasn't gone the wall of his way or his way, whereas Ito, 21-year-old, number 10
00:36:50for Japan.
00:36:51I really like the way he's just sometimes who stood and delivered, so he gets players outside of him with
00:36:56more time and more space to move rather than crowding them.
00:37:00Yeah, the Japanese team have had a lot more possession so far, been able to move the ball, so we're
00:37:05seeing a lot go through Ito's hands.
00:37:06Obviously, that lovely try.
00:37:08In regards to Meredith, more of a defensive game so far, which is not what we think of our 10s.
00:37:12Came up with a great strip on the play just before.
00:37:16See a little bit more depth out the back of Hunter Paisami.
00:37:18Working that combination, I do like Hunter Paisami at 12 and how deep he can take it into the opposition
00:37:25line and balls back in play.
00:37:28And it stays in the field of play, courtesy of the try-scorer, Harry Potter, who is very involved early
00:37:35in this one.
00:37:36Lonergan.
00:37:37Lonergan to Ross in his first start in a Wallabies jersey.
00:37:43Paisami back around to right and then Swali.
00:37:49Nasser.
00:37:54Paisami.
00:37:55At the back they go to Meredith.
00:37:57That one can't find the hands.
00:37:59So, just the timing off a slight bit here for the Wallabies at the moment as Jorgensen gets driven back
00:38:07in the tackle.
00:38:10Lonergan gives it to Amita Serra.
00:38:12Pops out the back and Alatoa has to dive on it.
00:38:15Oh, that one's just been ripped from what looked like an offside position.
00:38:20But it was open play, as you heard, so it's play on.
00:38:23And now accelerating.
00:38:27It was Tua.
00:38:29Jumta has to go into Scrum Half.
00:38:33Ball hitting the deck a little bit at the moment.
00:38:36Taka Uchi was the man who turned the ball over.
00:38:41Japan with a chance to attack.
00:38:43Oh, big tackle out of the line from Wilson.
00:38:46But they kept their composure, did Saito.
00:38:49And now accelerating as Tora Main.
00:38:52Into the 22 they go.
00:38:55Tell you what, Japan, they're coming in for some punishment but they just get up and keep going.
00:39:02So well at retaining the ball.
00:39:04That one lost forward by Taka Uchi this time.
00:39:09And the Wallabies survive another exciting attack from this Japan team.
00:39:15Well, it's the possession at the moment that's hurting the Wallabies.
00:39:18They've only had 35% possession and that's a good shot from the skipper, Harry Wilson.
00:39:25Morgz on the sideline.
00:39:26Still a little bit slippery with the humid conditions around.
00:39:29But Wallabies' defence moving up midfield causing a little bit of issues with the runners.
00:39:35Yeah, it's a salient point, Tim, but it must be said Japan are dealing with these conditions pretty well with
00:39:39their handling.
00:39:40It's just not good enough at the moment.
00:39:41That connection with ball players out the back of their forward runner shapes and even their midfield
00:39:46is really hurting the Wallabies at the moment.
00:39:49There is space, there is opportunity.
00:39:51But that connection's not there in attack.
00:39:53And then in the scramble defensively, which ensues from those errors,
00:39:57gee, they're under some pressure.
00:39:58There's a lot of tired legs in gold jerseys already.
00:40:02Yeah, they need the Wallabies somehow need to get some continuity,
00:40:07get seven-plus phases into their game
00:40:09and try and tire out the defensive line of the Japanese team.
00:40:16Bones!
00:40:19Set!
00:40:23Stable platform.
00:40:26Meredith.
00:40:28The right boot.
00:40:29It just sprayed off the side slightly,
00:40:32so I can't quite get the distance on these clearing kicks at the moment.
00:40:38Need a few team-mates to come up to Declan Meredith.
00:40:40Hit him on the backside, hit him on the head and say,
00:40:42mate, it's OK, get into the game.
00:40:45Just did a couple off the outside of his boot.
00:40:47Yeah, go, Derek.
00:40:49Go away, Coyote.
00:40:50Yes, Coyote.
00:40:51I think they just dropped the last one.
00:40:54Don't miss, I think...
00:41:02Derns wins it.
00:41:03Derns wins it.
00:41:05It's a cross field to McKissie.
00:41:10Power player in the midfield.
00:41:13Swaliki rushes out of the line, makes a good spot tackle.
00:41:15And, though, they gather so well.
00:41:20Look at Uchi.
00:41:22Back down the tram tracks they go.
00:41:25Oh, big tackle on Shimokawa.
00:41:29It's Kaisami and McRite in tandem, making the tackle.
00:41:35Saito to Shimokawa.
00:41:37That man, again, this time he does well to stay on his feet.
00:41:41Nasser looking to pilfer.
00:41:47What the back they go.
00:41:49Shimokawa coming around the corner for another carry.
00:41:54Now they go wide.
00:41:57It's three Wallaby jerseys to make the tackle.
00:42:03Japan moving the ball very well.
00:42:06Kanem over the ball.
00:42:07Wins it.
00:42:08First player on his feet.
00:42:11The clear lift.
00:42:12McRite wanted to go with the quick tap there.
00:42:15Kanem said no.
00:42:18Now, I don't think that would have been the right call,
00:42:20judging off what happened the first time with the quick tap.
00:42:23Again, some really good ball movement from this Japanese team.
00:42:26Good variation.
00:42:31Just be careful.
00:42:32Good movement.
00:42:33As you see, some of the Wallaby's players talking to the referee there.
00:42:38It's a great turnover by that man on screen, Kanem.
00:42:42Staying involved, staying alive in defence.
00:42:46Real feature of a good second rowers game is being able to get that leverage
00:42:49and get over the ball.
00:42:51That's the risk that Japan play with when they start going so deep
00:42:54with so many phases.
00:42:59Go deep to Kanem this time.
00:43:01Wilson is the man who pops the ball to Lonergan and now Paisami.
00:43:06This time they get the hands working.
00:43:08Here's Wright on the outside.
00:43:10Potter on the inside, but Wright burns them on the outside.
00:43:14A set-piece special from the Wallabies to take the lead.
00:43:20Oh, the reason why this try was scored, watch the replay and watch how deep
00:43:25to the line that Hunter Paisami takes the ball.
00:43:28So when you're defending against Hunter Paisami, you don't know whether he's
00:43:32going to carry, he's going to hit a short runner, or he's going to go out
00:43:35the back.
00:43:35Look at that.
00:43:36He drew two defenders.
00:43:37Declan Meredith shifted quickly to Max Jorgensen.
00:43:40And Tom Wright, too much pace for the Wallabies, and he goes over the second try of the match
00:43:45for the Wallabies.
00:43:46Yes, a good finish here by Tom Wright.
00:43:48Get the ball over the line.
00:43:49Love the line by Suweli'i.
00:43:51Just to draw in the Japanese defence out in those wider channels, opening up that space
00:43:56for his wider teammates.
00:43:58It's a good finish.
00:43:59He's looking good, looking fast out there.
00:44:00Tom Wright.
00:44:02Wallabies so far this year, 10 out of 18 tries coming from line-out.
00:44:06Their best source of possession.
00:44:10Lonegan.
00:44:12Tough kick.
00:44:14Flags up.
00:44:1514 plays, 7.
00:44:19It's a great point you make about the line-out, Michael Hooper.
00:44:22And that needs a nod as well.
00:44:24The long throw from Nassar to 14 metres to Canham.
00:44:26That execution is what opens up the pressure at the tail, which compresses midfields.
00:44:31Defence, and as we've mentioned, they're spaced out wide, but so much of that, you can't
00:44:35do that play if you win the ball at the front, or if you win that right near the 5
00:44:39metres.
00:44:39Excellent work at set-piece time from the Wallabies forward pack.
00:44:43A genuine team try, and one that makes the coaching staff happy, that's for sure, when
00:44:47it's off a first-phase play.
00:44:56Pango deep with the restart, and there's the try-scorer right to Meredith, who again, ball
00:45:04just slides off the side of the boot.
00:45:06Need a touch.
00:45:16You just wonder if that exit there, forced pass, under pressure there from the Japanese
00:45:22players coming through.
00:45:24Definitely has to kind of chop that to the edge.
00:45:27The one before off the scrum was unforced, but that one, just good pressure there from
00:45:30the Japanese team.
00:45:32The Wallabies take a run, kick in a more favourable position.
00:45:38And Canham gets his hand in the road there, and they get the pick.
00:45:42Chance to counter-attack now.
00:45:44From deep, the Wallabies go.
00:45:46Here's Swali'i Wright.
00:45:49Loses it in the contact.
00:45:50Well, did it come off the boot?
00:45:51It did.
00:45:52Here's Potter.
00:45:53Potter.
00:45:55Didn't give it in the end.
00:45:56Now he has to basketball pass it up to Wilson.
00:46:01Nasser charging onto it.
00:46:03There was almost too many options there for Harry Potter.
00:46:08It's now Ala-Ala-Toa.
00:46:10Wallabies just starting to get some momentum.
00:46:14Starting to get a bit of tempo and rhythm in this game.
00:46:17Meredith stepping.
00:46:19And they've got a penalty advantage now as well.
00:46:24Here was Ace.
00:46:25Vonnegan marshalling the troops.
00:46:27Wilson popping it backwards.
00:46:29The man wasn't there.
00:46:30Jorgensen had to get it from a standing start.
00:46:35They go same way.
00:46:36This is good hands from the Wallabies.
00:46:38Oh, and I'm a Tessero.
00:46:40He needed Nasser to be a step to the left and inside.
00:46:46So they get the penalty, though, the Wallabies.
00:46:48Come on, hot ball.
00:46:49Come on, hot ball.
00:46:50Number Ace, offside.
00:46:55Kissy, number eight for Japan offside.
00:47:00So Harry Wilson talking to Declan Meredith.
00:47:02What do they want to do?
00:47:03They want to go for touch or take three points with ten to go
00:47:08in the first half.
00:47:10So they want to keep the pressure on Hoops to try and,
00:47:13even though that was right in front of the post,
00:47:15they want to be scored 14 unanswered points
00:47:17after the first try from Japan.
00:47:21Well, their Walls have been so good so far this year.
00:47:24That's a great steal from Canham you see on screen that set up this whole play.
00:47:28Good speed off the deck.
00:47:30I'm sure Justin Harrison will be watching just before halftime.
00:47:34Loving that work off the deck.
00:47:36Here they go here.
00:47:38Now with Decero with the half jump.
00:47:40This time Japan spoiled them all.
00:47:44Penalty advantage, though.
00:47:45They'll have another crack.
00:47:47If they can.
00:47:49Ball comes off the shoe.
00:47:51Kaisami will go back for the penalty.
00:47:55I don't know how good this Wallaby Mall can be.
00:47:59So far this year, it's looked quite good.
00:48:02I'll tell you why they've been really good as well.
00:48:04Just around the pick and drive work.
00:48:06It's probably been as effective as any team in the world.
00:48:09Just going to a tap move five metres out,
00:48:12getting into their pick and drive,
00:48:13getting into their little pops off the deck.
00:48:15They're almost unstoppable once they got inside the 22.
00:48:18Japan, during the Nations Championship,
00:48:20they were the most vulnerable team from all time.
00:48:22They gave away the most penalties
00:48:23and the most tries as well.
00:48:31Can the Wallabies make Japan pay here?
00:48:38Edging towards the sideline.
00:48:40Now they're in control at the back.
00:48:44Lonegan wants it.
00:48:45Kaisami has to duck the head.
00:48:48Japan up quickly.
00:48:49Lonegan.
00:48:50No one around him has to pick and go.
00:48:54Throw a blanket over the Wallabies on this right-hand side.
00:49:00Ross.
00:49:01Now they start banging away.
00:49:05Valentini pops it up
00:49:07to Nasser.
00:49:10Oh, and Montessaro flew in from the side.
00:49:15Don't jeopardise the penalty.
00:49:18Don't jeopardise the penalty.
00:49:21Oh, you understand something bad has happened to your player.
00:49:24You will redeem it, otherwise you leave the pitch, okay?
00:49:26Back you go.
00:49:27Thank you.
00:49:28Time off.
00:49:29So they're just checking the illegality of this.
00:49:32I've got a dangerous fear of the head contact, I'm just paying for you to want to check it.
00:49:36Yeah, check, check.
00:49:37Yeah, okay.
00:49:41You heard the groan from the...
00:49:42So Crossy, you're going to look at the actions of five gold.
00:49:46TMO Richard Kelly.
00:49:48You're going to check the actions of five gold.
00:49:50This shoulder to hit contact.
00:49:54Miles Amatisero in his second test match for the Wallabies.
00:50:00This is the fine line you play as a lock in the modern game.
00:50:03This stuff is absolute gold.
00:50:06If you can get your players and your big men in the team
00:50:10trying to do some really good clean-out work.
00:50:13But the margins of error are very small.
00:50:17It does look like a shoulder is found.
00:50:22The only bit of getting factor is that Rob Valentini's making the tackle on Warner Derns
00:50:28and spins him around.
00:50:31And he drops quickly as well.
00:50:34But the target changes in the last second.
00:50:39We always got to remember it's very easy for us sitting here when there's frame by frame.
00:50:44And that's what we talk about, the margins of error being small.
00:50:47So you'd like to see this played in real time.
00:50:49Yes.
00:50:57What do you think, Timmy?
00:50:58I think there's going to be enough mitigating factors to make it not a red.
00:51:02I'd say it's going to be a yellow.
00:51:05Yeah, I agree.
00:51:13Derns has been cleaned out by Valentini and going to ground.
00:51:19So it just changes the point of contact for Myles Amatisero.
00:51:23I think there's going to be a yellow card threshold, so I'm going to send it for an off-field
00:51:33review.
00:51:37Number five.
00:51:40Referee had to go all the way out there into the field to watch the screen, the big screen.
00:51:44Five.
00:51:45Yellow card, off-field review.
00:51:48So there it is, Myles Amatisero in his second test match.
00:51:54His first start, we'll spend ten in the bin, and they're going to have to check it.
00:52:01So Morgan Turanui sideline.
00:52:05That was a pretty ugly incident.
00:52:11Yeah, I can see that one, as you have talked through, being mitigated down and staying a yellow.
00:52:16There's enough drop in body height more than anything.
00:52:18He was actually quite dipped at hips and knees, Myles Amatisero, but he has a duty of care there.
00:52:23And more importantly, it is a missed opportunity for the Wallabies.
00:52:26Japan are so good at staying in contact on the scoreboard.
00:52:29Wallabies needed more points for some of their great play.
00:52:36Kornelson wins it at line-out time.
00:52:39Whoa, and that is a Route 1 carry there from 2-up.
00:52:47Kornelson has been elusive with ball in hand today.
00:52:54Tighter domain.
00:52:55Just gets the hips and shoulders through contact there.
00:52:58And, oh, Taka Ushi goes again.
00:53:03Here's Kornelson in the backfield.
00:53:07Japan looking to make the Aussies pay here.
00:53:10Eira takes it into the 22.
00:53:12And now, oh, that is a big carry from Makisi.
00:53:17And immediately, they make Australia pay to Japan.
00:53:23Balua Makisi scores the try.
00:53:27Well, a huge distance try there, all set up by some great work through this forwards team.
00:53:32And this man on screen putting the ball down, getting it up completely legal.
00:53:37Kornelson, the Australian-born player, gets up the field.
00:53:41Just some great urgency here from the supporting Japanese players.
00:53:46What a great finish there by, who was that man, Tua?
00:53:53Or Main, Main rather.
00:53:58Makisi, what a try from him.
00:54:01Scores the try.
00:54:02And the work early on from Taka Ushi, number three, the tighthead prop.
00:54:07Had some great carries in this first half.
00:54:12Matsunaga.
00:54:14Again, we're all square here in Osaka.
00:54:20Well, Japan make the Wallabies pay straight away for that numerical advantage.
00:54:25And it was the forwards that did it really themselves, didn't they?
00:54:28As you boys have mentioned, Wallabies struggling to slow down the ball at tackle time.
00:54:34This is too little, too late once it gets in the 22.
00:54:37Eternal vigilance around the ruck, too, because Japan, their game sense is brilliant.
00:54:41Anytime there's an opportunity in and around the ruck to either put pressure on the Wallabies
00:54:45or take some impetus themselves, they're doing it.
00:54:48Mark Kisi, what a run from him, though.
00:54:50He was looking outside, looking for runners in the Wallabies.
00:54:53Defensive line just held off.
00:54:55Loves the collision.
00:54:57Does Fumbo up Makisi, that one.
00:55:00Out on the full off the kick-off, so compounding errors.
00:55:06Kyle O'Connor, come on, come on.
00:55:10We'll pack a scrum right in the centre of the park.
00:55:14Yeah, that's better from Tom Wright.
00:55:16Someone's got to come up to Declan Meredith.
00:55:19Would have been left on his own with a couple of little mistakes.
00:55:22Got to get around him.
00:55:23Got to try and comfort him and get him into this test match.
00:55:29So use the line.
00:55:30Four left.
00:55:31Oh, Zama Tassero.
00:55:35Yellow card in the 32nd minute.
00:55:39And this could be interesting come scrum time now for the Wallabies,
00:55:42so Bobby Valentini, who reluctantly likes...
00:55:46is reluctant, rather, to pack in at second row,
00:55:48will go in there next to Canham.
00:55:51Seeing him wince sometimes at scrum training
00:55:53when he puts his head in there at second row.
00:55:54He's going to have to do a job here for the team behind Ross and Nassar.
00:55:59Really important four minutes for the Wallabies just before halftime.
00:56:04Just need a bit more space.
00:56:06That's a bit close.
00:56:06We just both fell into it.
00:56:08Fell into it.
00:56:11Some weight off.
00:56:12Owen Cross, referee from Ireland.
00:56:14Yeah.
00:56:15I'll try and get these scrums packed a bit earlier and let them go.
00:56:19More control?
00:56:20More control?
00:56:20Yeah.
00:56:21Just take a small bit off.
00:56:22Can I go?
00:56:23Can I go?
00:56:24No, no, no.
00:56:25That's a small bit.
00:56:26Yeah.
00:56:26Thank you.
00:56:31Referee's a big part of trying to quicken the game up.
00:56:39Well, Amitocero won't be hating it at the moment.
00:56:41Clock still ticks over, wearing down his ten minutes.
00:56:45You all right, Timmy?
00:56:45Green, set.
00:56:55Wallabies won't be minding this.
00:56:57Let's get it right.
00:56:58Okay.
00:57:02The game's got to get better at repacking the scrums and quicking them up.
00:57:09Yeah, I'm just fine enough for two years ago, but it is a...
00:57:19referee's got to talk to the front row.
00:57:21Row is on the run.
00:57:22Get it moving.
00:57:25It's a great result for the Wallabies team at the moment,
00:57:27where this clock's just ticking over.
00:57:32No clock stoppage here.
00:57:33It just tick, tick, tick.
00:57:44The vocal Japan crowd.
00:57:47Find!
00:57:50Set!
00:57:55Now they get the ascendancy in Japan, and the penalty advantage as well.
00:58:00They go to the far side, through two up, and now Matsunaga joins the line.
00:58:10So far with Amatisaro in the bin.
00:58:15Japan have scored a converted try.
00:58:17Can they add to that tally?
00:58:19Derns with a heads-up play and a spin, and he heads into the backfield.
00:58:25Now Tom Wright over the ball and wins it.
00:58:28That's a clutch play from Tom Wright.
00:58:31It's a brave play as well.
00:58:33He was the last man to Tom Wright.
00:58:36He knew he had to get his head in a difficult position.
00:58:40Over the ball quickly, Hoops.
00:58:42Well, talk about two players doing things outside their skill set.
00:58:45Warner Derns, how good was he?
00:58:47Looked like an outside back up there through the middle of the field.
00:58:50And then Tom Wright getting his head over the ball.
00:58:53Great shape.
00:58:55Oh, Derns had something to his right, too.
00:58:59So Crossy, just the outcome of a yellow card.
00:59:02It's going to be upgraded to a 20-minute read card.
00:59:04He's always illegal with no effort to wrap with direct head contact.
00:59:09It's a high degree of danger.
00:59:12So, talking about captains.
00:59:15Captains.
00:59:25So, the off-field review has been completed.
00:59:28The yellow card's going to be upgraded to a 20-minute read card.
00:59:30Because there's no attempt to wrap.
00:59:32He's always illegal and there's direct head contact.
00:59:34Yes.
00:59:3620-minute read card.
00:59:38Miles Amatisero in his second test match.
00:59:41His first start for the Wallabies.
00:59:43Red carded.
00:59:44Big blow.
00:59:45Big blow.
00:59:45And here's another look at the incident.
00:59:47Water off, please.
00:59:48He had that arm tucked.
00:59:52Michael Hooper.
00:59:53Oh, that's a back up.
00:59:54Look, he's gotten it wrong there.
00:59:57I don't necessarily agree with the red card.
00:59:59I think that should have remained a yellow card, in my opinion.
01:00:04But that's a risky run.
01:00:06When you do come in at pace, trying to put a shoulder into a different area, I'm sure it wasn't
01:00:11intended for the head.
01:00:13It's unfortunate for that man, like you say, Timmy in his second test match, earning a red card there.
01:00:20But as you heard referees say, 20 minutes, you'll have a replacement.
01:00:23The Wallabies will get Jeremy Williams coming on.
01:00:30Wow.
01:00:32Massive moment in this game.
01:00:34And Japan pinched the line out, but Canham is awake to it and sets off downfield.
01:00:43That's a good play from Canham.
01:00:45Wilson, a barreling carry.
01:00:48They go back to the short side for Ross.
01:00:52Cornelison just making a nuisance of himself.
01:00:54Will the Wallabies play?
01:00:56No, they will.
01:00:57Oh, that one was very nonchalant there.
01:01:00From Alan Alaalatoa, but it finds touch.
01:01:03And we head into the break.
01:01:0714 points apiece.
01:01:09But the Wallabies.
01:01:12A 20-minute red card to Myles Amatisero.
01:01:15All right.
01:01:16All right.
01:01:16All right.
