00:00what's up guys please if you don't mind subscribe like share and comment and will not become a
00:05member i tried to install gnome using slpkg and i mostly failed and one of the pages that i depended
00:19on or websites has a page that shows how to set up slack package plus i set it up already
00:30so i thought of showing you how to use slack package plus or slack pkg as written here
00:42or here how to use it to install gnome since it has some problems with its repositories
00:54and they got updated and you can change and add the repositories that you like as long as they are
01:03maintained you go to this link sourceforge.net slash projects slash slack package slack pkg plus
01:15slash files take this one take the version 1.8.0 which is what i took
01:28as root
01:32if we run ls it's what i took this one you install it install pkg
01:44slack package plus i have already done this but it's fine to repeat it you run this command it
01:51should install it should install for you you later go to slash etc slash slack package
02:02slack package plus no slack slack package plus dot conf like this and then you scroll down to
02:22this section that i'm gonna show you now
02:49wait a second
02:50and i believe i changed i believe i changed this file why does it sound like it is not changed
02:57anyway
02:58let me exit out of this and run slash slack package update should complain
03:09no it didn't
03:21all right you will change it together then i thought it's already changed and i thought i've shown you
03:29where to apply the changes in order to install gnome using it it's possible to do it anyway
03:44not only gnome but so many other packages if you know how to configure the repositories there
03:52so you choose one of these mirrors
03:58first one is this one for gnome 50 second one is this one for anything below gnome 50 anything below
04:09the
04:09version 50 you take it you go to this file scroll down
04:15and put it next to this one close to it i will put it here
04:27it is somehow recommended to prioritize gnome here by uncommenting this one
04:41and
04:48you save and exit run this command again
04:56which is slack package update slack pkg update
05:03you may need to update also gpg keys by running slack pkg update update gpg
05:08sometimes for me running slack pkg update is enough in your case in case the keys weren't updated
05:19please run slack package update gpg
05:24after you run slack pkg update gpg and slack pkg update you can run slack pkg install gnome it will
05:33work in case you added the line of the repository as i showed you a few seconds ago let's try
05:42to run slack pkg
05:43or slack package install gnome like this and you can see that it is working it looks for the packages
05:55that
05:56are related to gnome and it's gonna give you a list of them and then from it you can install
06:02for me you can see that it brought four packages because i already have gnome installed
06:08even after running
06:10uh these commands and this following the steps here
06:14i still get a cursor in a black screen in my gnome setup as you can see it still doesn't
06:22work but at least there is some progress from
06:25the last time last time last time i said that this one i will keep the alt file because it
06:32keeps
06:33it may overwrite the last configurations that we had
06:37enter here i press it uppercase k and
06:42and last time last time i said i got tortured i mean with it i kept trying multiple ways to
06:49install
06:51gnome for many days and they all failed and sometimes i wait for hours simply to pull the
06:57packages mostly when using the command lftp which took so long to download
07:05anyway that was how to set up gnome using slack package
07:09plus i'm signing out and see you
