00:00Businessman Gauri Abood tells The Morning Edition he does not see himself as part of any 1%, but as 101
00:08% Trinidadian.
00:10He says he is alarmed that a country once defined by its diversity is now being pushed toward division.
00:17With the greatest respect to these persons, I'm saying to you today, loud and clear, that these are demons.
00:27These are possessed souls that want to sow hate and division and ignite the worst, the worst in us.
00:36So let me ask you a point today.
00:39He says some politicians are exploiting ethnic resentment to advantage their agendas,
00:45while anonymous social media accounts are being used to target those who challenge the narrative.
00:51This is not a racial country, but there are nasty, evil politicians who have capitalized on race and hate as
01:02a strategy to gravitate political support.
01:07Abood also rejects any suggestion that he is involved in the illegal drug trade,
01:12saying he does not support such activity and instead advocates natural remedies.
01:18I do not sell drugs. I do not. I have never been involved.
01:23I have been totally against the whole narcotic industry.
01:28I am in favor of natural things.
01:32I am not against that 40% of our population smoke marijuana.
01:37I realize it's a cultural thing that it evolved very quickly with Bob Marley.
01:43But he warns, the consequences are bigger than political disagreement,
01:49saying continued ethnic targeting could drive people to abandon the country they call home.
01:55I am not interested in being in a country, investing in a country,
02:03or making my life a future for my family in a country where political leaders overtly say the worst things.
