00:00on the western hotline is scott barrett the man behind fantasy points school of scott one of my
00:06two of my favorite things about scott one is big brain two is like he could have scott i mean
00:11this
00:11is a compliment you could have like a theo greminger or somebody on your podcast and they
00:15could lay out some like perfectly logical like debate class some perfectly logical take on a
00:21player or their draft position or whatever and scott will hit them with i completely disagree
00:27you couldn't be more wrong like you don't you don't get enough of that in in fantasy content
00:32for my taste but i love that about you and thanks for being with us today yeah thanks it's funny
00:37on
00:37the last episode of school of scott i debated our newest writer who just so happens to be
00:43a former national champion debate coach yes yes he put you to the test and you were ready for it
00:52you
00:52you say bring it on to this guy that's right that particular show well let's start with some
00:58bill stuff here scott naturally uh the bills are at least usually back in the first round this year
01:04with james cook he's one of six or seven running backs that can go between like the 106 and the
01:12204
01:13kind of in there mccaffrey taylor jenty and others um how do you feel about cook apart from just sort
01:19of
01:19the usual fantasy expert take which i want a little bit of everybody which might not might not be you
01:25that's not me it's not you go ahead on cook yeah listen i i was kind of a james cook
01:31skeptic but now
01:32i'm really embracing him in this uh middle round one of drafts you know he did it in 2024 with
01:39efficiency he finishes the rb11 despite ranking 39th in snaps per game and then last year he did it
01:46with volume he finishes the rb6 while ranking fourth in touches per game and i i don't think
01:52you really need to see too much more than that a guy locked into top five volume on a top
01:58five
01:58offense and he's damn good at the game you know like i said the hyper efficiency you know he pops
02:03in
02:04a number of the most important metrics that matter to me at the running back position so
02:08for some people you know you're kind of saying it's an unsexy pick but i don't know it just feels
02:13it feels easy and maybe maybe that's what it is it's not it's not unsexy it's just very easy
02:19well and this year you might be buying or drafting a little more we'll see i don't know how much
02:25i imagine you you got your ear to the ground on just about everything it's got that the the pass
02:31game like he he might be p carmichael sean payton like joe brady and if they're looking for a way
02:39to
02:39even use him more maybe more out of the backfield yeah well that's the big hope yeah it it really
02:46does especially coming out of college too you know that that's what he was really lauded for his
02:51pass catching abilities and he's been underutilized there in buffalo so yeah and that could go a really
02:56long way for his his fantasy upside and i think that's baked in a little bit but at least you
03:01are
03:01hearing the beat writers out there in buffalo talking about him being more involved in the passing
03:05game scott how about dj more the bills big get in the offseason from the bears at wide receiver
03:12speaking of like an unsexy name in fantasy the last few years dj more is kind of that too
03:18um just all over the years more and more analysts seem just kind of bored with the idea new team
03:26though
03:26best quarterback of his career is he a value what is dj more for you best quarterback of his career
03:34best quarterback in football uh but i i want no part of him for fantasy i i think this was
03:41an embarrassing overpay for a gm who should be on trial for war crimes i think the taco of your
03:48fantasy league would have more super bowls with josh allen than brandon bean uh the embarrassing
03:53receiver receiving core josh allen has had throughout his career and then you pay a round two pick and you
04:00pay a whole bunch of money to dj more who looks washed you look at all wide receivers over the
04:05last two years with over 125 targets there's there's more than 50 of them dj more ranks bottom six and
04:12targets for route run bottom six and yards for route run bottom six and first down per route run and
04:18yeah you have ben johnson like the goat at scheming wide receivers open and he couldn't get anything out
04:23of him you had the rumors circulating that the bears were going to cut him and then brandon beans
04:29trades a round two pick gives him a whole bunch of money but it's not just that from a fantasy
04:34perspective it's also that joe brady likes this sort of wide receiver committee uh he likes really
04:41mixing up the personnel groupings and so you saw that when he first took over stefan diggs went from 20
04:48.3
04:48fantasy points per game to 10.3 uh from ken dorsey to to joe brady taking over and then the
04:55last two
04:55years you have khalil shakir leading the team in fantasy points per game with like 12 and leading
05:01the team in route share with like 70 and that's just not gonna that's not gonna get it done you
05:08really want you know full-time players and so you know just the confluence of factors there a guy i
05:13think
05:13might be washed and then the joe brady committee with wide receivers this this isn't a player i'm
05:19targeting in fantasy he like cook but several rounds later is in a cluster of receivers and i think right
05:27around dj more scott is where it gets a little bit dicey i mean in the fourth round you can
05:33get luther
05:33burden you can get tet mcmillan uh people are kind of soft on garrett wilson what a talent then you
05:40get
05:40into that range where it's maybe maybe even christian watson would come in front but then you
05:44get into the sort of the the olds evans adams um i mean mclaurin i guess is another one do
05:52you find
05:53like is more just a hard pass all together you'll draft a running back instead or one of these other
05:58veterans instead i mean there's still a lot to say about mike evans i know but i don't think he's
06:02sniffing those guys those guys you know both ranked top three in average separation score last year
06:08he's still got it tons of touchdown upside i i don't i don't think he is anywhere close to names
06:14like that he's just like totally off my board yes there has to be someone who has them higher than
06:20me because because i have him in the basement appreciate by the way you spelling out average
06:24separation score for our show's purposes today not abbreviating it like on your site uh with scott
06:30barrett what about dalton kincaid like really that we've talked about it really since he got here
06:37um big slot would be good we said the same thing about coleman for two years too but we got
06:43shakir in the slot kincaid snap count is not commensurate with what you know what what he's
06:50capable of when he's on the field health has a lot to do with that um i don't know are
06:55you paying
06:56special attention to how he's being talked about in the summer to help you find your way to him or
07:03is his usage just too erratic for you to depend on i i don't know he's really tricky to me
07:10he so i'm
07:11the upside wins championships guy and you know the bull case argument for for dalton kate is really
07:18compelling really persuasive it feels a little bit like a siren song but you you look at only three
07:25wide only three receivers last year averaged at least three yards per route run puka nakua jackson
07:31smith and jigba and dalton freaking kincaid uh he was putting up low end tight end one numbers despite
07:38dealing with seven different brutal injuries and he did that on just a 44 percent route share so it's
07:45like yeah what if he's getting like a trey mcbride route share then he's breaking fantasy then this is
07:52like the best draft pick you could have made the problem is again joe brady likes these different
07:59personnel groupings kincaid but where the tight end position is going is you can't just be good at
08:06one thing you can't just be a good receiver you really have to be good at everything and jackson
08:12hawes dawson knox they are much better blockers and so i feel like he's just going to kind of be
08:17stuck
08:18at this 40 to 50 percent route share regardless of what anyone says but this is also the onesie
08:25positions you really want to gravitate towards upside and so still i'm i think i'm higher on
08:32him than adp even even though i kind of think uh it's not the most likely outcome that he gets
08:39this
08:39this big uh improvement and role tight end 12 in my last draft at the ffpc kincaid was sorry go
08:48ahead
08:49no is there anyone else that's at all interesting to you on the bills roster
08:56uh ray davis is a last round handcuff i think um and that's that's that's probably it
09:04with scott barrett fantasy points mike show up in the bulldog here on wgr well i think i know your
09:09answer to this you like the uh the term the exodia players just these guys who can win your league
09:15for you almost cheat code type things maybe literally um who is the team in the nfl this
09:20year where you can maybe find that the most goodness in this area there's a lot of them you
09:26know 49ers are close a lot of 49ers guys like but really the answer this question is the jacksonville
09:34jaguars i'm a big leon cohen believer but it's also you look at what happened in the second half last
09:40year they were top three in epa per drop back they were top three in points per game trevor lawrence
09:46led all quarterbacks and fantasy points per game over the last 12 six five three uh games of the year
09:54he he had the fourth most fantasy points in the fantasy in the in the playoffs of any quarterback
10:01all time and you know he's he's all the way down there at like qb 11 by adp qb 10
10:06by adp and then you
10:07have uh basil tootin you know liam cohen's track record with running backs i think that's interesting
10:12and of course my guy if you're not drafting parker washington i don't know what you're doing this guy
10:18is maybe the most mispriced player in drafts this is not just an exodia for me mike this is if
10:26you
10:26don't draft him we're not friends anymore this guy i'm telling you has easy top 12 upside which
10:33you just don't find in the rounds he's going and he feels very safe to me as well i'm a
10:38i'm a big
10:39parker washington guy and you know my confidence in that ties back to liam cohen's track record with
10:46the slot wide receiver you saw that with chris godwin you saw that with wandale robinson you saw
10:51that with cooper cup and i think parker washington's the next guy in line you've got to feel like there's
10:58a bias against him just because there are enough drafters who are like who is this again and on a
11:03team that has you know brian thomas jr and we argued about him not argued but we debated him a
11:10couple
11:10years ago by the way based on his some of his college metrics huge rookie year and then way back
11:15down here last year interesting but also of course travis hunter even jacoby myers who they traded for
11:20and has a pretty high floor so maybe you get in rooms where there's still a feeling that washington
11:26because it was so late in the season is a fluke it's a small game sample he was a day
11:32three nobody
11:34i think this guy is special yeah our film expert brett whitefield thinks this guy is special
11:39and it wasn't just you know yeah he looked good in those final four games it was like the trevor
11:46lawrence looking like an mvp candidate after like five years of mediocrity and it was parker washington
11:51averaging over 100 yards per game no other wide receiver over 40 and again it's
11:56just you know i like power law players i want to chase power law offenses and this was an
12:03offense that like i said in the second half top three in epa per per drop back top three in
12:09points
12:09per game vegas has been projected 17th in points per game adp is kind of in line with that but
12:15our projections guy chris weck myself we both have them top five in our projected points per game and
12:22yeah i think that's really one of the biggest edges in 2026 drafts is is give me these jacksonville
12:28players even i am guilty of this somewhat last time i talked to mike dempsey from football diehards in
12:34here a couple of weeks ago he's in jacksonville i'm like parker washington you know question mark
12:40and he's like yeah just like yes i mean just sort of kind of was seemingly pretty obvious to him
12:49that
12:49washington is the is the number one there well the price of the brick is going up mike i don't
12:55know if
12:55you're following the you know the beat writers every single day their jaws are on the floor they
13:00won't stop talking about parker washington so uh this is why i tell all of our subscribers try and try
13:06and get your draft plan for early august right when my draft guide comes out because these guys always
13:12gain multiple rounds in value by september what about the running backs there scott
13:18yeah so i'm so ryan heath exodia if he had a ryan he uh an exodia this is maybe the
13:25best fantasy
13:25football writer in the game he's he's over at fantasy points with me he would if he had an exodia
13:30it
13:30would be basil toot and i i'm trying to pump the brakes a little bit on that but you know
13:35the argument
13:36is just basically liam cohen's track record with the position you saw bucky irving set records for
13:42fantasy points per touch a couple years ago you saw you know it was a valuable role for travis at
13:49tn
13:49last year and this was a prospect that we were really high on i i still kind of worry a
13:55little
13:55bit about the downside what if laquint allen steals passing down work what if chris rod rodriguez who i
14:02like i did a podcast with uh what if he gets the goal line work uh so i i i
14:07think you've sure there's
14:09a lot of upside there um but you know factoring the downside i'm probably just a guy i'm i'm about
14:14even with industry consensus on he does have a lot of hype a lot of a lot of fans like
14:20like you said
14:21about ryan a few minutes left with scott barrett you can check out the 2026 fantasy football draft
14:28guide find a link to it fantasy points.com or through scott's twitter at scott barrett
14:33dfb got a couple other names for our listeners scott you know maybe not on everybody's sort of tip of
14:40the tongue but um where you might find really good or great values in fantasy drafts yeah so you know
14:47for for most people in their home league you know a great rule of thumb is you can really afford
14:52to
14:52wait at the quarterback position you kind of let everyone else draft those guys if you want to pair
14:58malik willis and kyler murray who are going in like the last rounds of your espn or yahoo draft
15:04and that's who you're starting week one those are the only quarterbacks on your roster kyler murray
15:08or malik willis you are in a great position because that means you probably have better running backs
15:14and wide receivers than anyone else and those are the positions that really matter in fantasy
15:19and uh the big cheat code for for quarterbacks is you want to you want the guys who run just
15:25a lot
15:25easy to rack up fantasy points when they run and both of those guys run so yeah if you want
15:31to just
15:31go you know dumpster diving like i love that i like that more than you know some of the guys
15:36who are
15:36going around seven i'd rather have straight up malik willis and kyler murray and then of course you're
15:42ideally drafting running backs and wide receivers when your league mates are drafting quarterbacks and
15:47that's always historically been a pretty strong edge i just did this in a draft murray and willis
15:53literally and you see i had uh nffc i had credits site credits so i went in there maybe a
16:01little bit
16:01looser and that was my tandem murray and willis and some i had some reason i don't usually do this
16:07but i had some reason for entering the chat toward the end of the draft and you know don't but
16:14i did
16:14and the the response i got was murray and malik though t-h-o you know like that kind of
16:21a you know
16:22that's that's what it was but at least i can say now that i have scott on my side for
16:26this one
16:27you absolutely do any particular strategy when it comes to tight ends i know i've heard you say in
16:34the past that uh you'd rather let it come to you you know tight end but yeah is this year
16:40at all
16:40different with bowers and mcbride and maybe even loveland if you're in an 18 league or a 10 team
16:47league get yourself a bowers or mcbride also yeah go ahead and draft josh allen in a 12 team league
16:53though i i do like just pushing it um and and i think it would typically i'm drafting either tucker
17:02craft or george kittle i think on espn if i remember correctly tucker craft is like stupid cheap
17:07and on yahoo george kittle's a good value and then i'll double tap and then i'll grab one of
17:12these high upside tight ends so dalton kinkade's in play for me dallas goddard now with aj brown no
17:19longer in the picture isaiah likely looking like the number two receiver and the giants no longer
17:24you know behind mark andrews in the the pecking order and so i i like that combination where you're
17:30insulated in case of injury because both of these guys you know they're probably going to play
17:35week two you know good chance they're going to play week one but you know right now they're not
17:42fully 100 so i like that combination you know it's a it's really high ceiling with craft or kittle
17:48and then a good ceiling and a good floor with you know the kincaids the goddards the isaiah likely
17:53scott is it patently absurd or maybe even offensive to you to consider whether carson beck
18:01is someone that people will gravitate towards stashing because of last night yeah i have no
18:07interest in carson beck i don't think he's good our film expert brett whitefield who's i think the
18:13best in the game had a day three grade on him you know who i do like i like the
18:17other quarterback
18:18haynes king that was really one of my guys that was really one of brett's guys there's a little bit
18:23of like brock purdy to him where he just had a ton of experience he elevated some crummy schools and
18:30here's a cool stat for you the best 40 yard dash time at the combine by a white quarterback ever
18:37i
18:38think chris collinsworth called him the white lamar jackson and that's not that's crazy but it's not that
18:45that crazy uh and so if he ever gets the chance to start and mind you uh bryce young had
18:52over 205
18:53passing yards only three times last year that crescott did that in 16 of 17 games uh he could
18:59be a great well quarterback for for dfs i don't i don't know how how relevant he'd be outside of
19:05that
19:05but yeah just a sneaky name to watch haynes king i like him more than carson beck very cool scott
19:11what's the best way for you to have our listeners by your draft guide is it through fantasypoints.com
19:17like i mentioned or another way yeah go to fantasypoints.com uh use promo code exodia
19:23e-x-o-d-i-a it's a really nerdy yugioh reference but basically what you do is you read
19:30my draft guide
19:31you win your league you look like a genius you have a lot of fun we got some great tools
19:36to make it fun
19:37for you to make it easier for you less time consuming whatever you want head on over to
19:42fantasypoints.com you do all that you you take down the league and then the next year you get a
19:47vanity plate that says exodia 2 because you're exodia 1 you can't take exodia 1 exodia 2 for 2027
19:54scott thanks a lot for today enjoy the rest of your summer yeah thanks mike hey check out a video
20:00uh
20:00dropping today theo gramminger and i just did a ffpc draft i think you'll like that over on our youtube
20:06channel where does he find the time i know i know all right thanks again scott all right see you
20:13mike scott barrett fantasy points and fantasypoints.com for that draft guide nodding on dj more
20:20it seems by the sound of it that's what i heard he got that across you think yes on cook
20:29no one more
20:30i don't know on kincaid so we went one one and one and the three guys 803 05 50 sal
20:36at five today
