Bodies of Nirmal Purja, four other climbers airlifted to Skardu after Broad Peak avalanche

The bodies of five climbers, including renowned British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, were airlifted to the northern Pakistani city of Skardu on Thursday (Aug 6) after they were killed in an avalanche on Broad Peak last week, the Alpine Club of Pakistan said.  Purja, 43, was leading a 10-member expedition on the 8,051-metre mountain when the avalanche struck on July 30, cutting off contact with the team.
