00:00Can you say more about the state of the menopause treatment industry today? You mentioned telehealth
00:05companies, influencers online, people just selling supplements. How big is this industry and
00:11what are the companies that exist to sell these products to women?
00:15Yeah, so I think the AARP actually did a really interesting survey, maybe it was two years ago,
00:23where they kind of polled women on how they're spending their money at this time and they
00:29characterized the total menopause marketplace as being about $13 billion, which I think is low
00:35compared to other estimates. But $10 billion of that $13 billion was being spent on non-medical
00:42treatments, right? Stuff like supplements, weighted vests, you know, all the stuff getting advertised
00:47to you on TikTok and Instagram. So I think that is really elucidating, that so much of this market
00:55is not actually going towards what we know is the gold standard treatment, which is hormone therapy.
01:03Why is this industry so dominated by telehealth companies and non-medical treatments,
01:08as opposed to doctors, OBGYNs, gynecologists, other more traditional forms of care?
01:13Well, I think the biggest problem is access, right? I mean, these companies like Midi, like Alloy,
01:19you know, there's so many of them. And then like some of those bigger, older telehealth companies
01:25like HIMSS have also started trying to get into the menopause game. I mean, Weight Watchers has a
01:30menopause program, right? But I think this need is being filled by telehealth companies and Instagram
01:39influencers because it's not able to be met by the medical community, right? So there is a real
01:45mismatch and there is a real need to give more access to care, but that access isn't really like
01:53coming from the best place for patients.
