00:00St John's Church in Chatham is making connections, one bridge at a time.
00:05A temporary mini-golf course inspired by bridges across Kent
00:08has been set up inside the church in partnership with the Rochester Bridge Trust.
00:13So the course is absolutely huge, extending past the doors just behind the camera
00:18and all the way up to the windows just over there.
00:20And to my right is actually a room for kids to learn more about the engineering that goes into these
00:26bridges.
00:27Children can also learn about the history of each bridge before or after taking on the course,
00:33where some of them are based on well-known local crossings, including Rochester Bridge.
00:37With our adventure golf, we have every hole is themed around a different bridge.
00:42So every bridge then kind of it brings their acknowledgement about the different types that are out there
00:47because there's so many different varieties.
00:50And on the sheet, it's got a little bit about the bridge as well.
00:53There's a massive shortage in civil engineering.
00:55We as a bridge company, as a bridge trust, we want civil engineers for the future.
01:00So again, it's a nice way of linking, of bridging the knowledge.
01:05Organisers say it's more than just mini-golf.
01:08They hope it gives families something free to enjoy in the heart of Chatham during the summer holidays,
01:13while helping to ease the pressure on parents as the cost of living continues to rise.
01:18I mean, I think as a parent myself, most parents will associate with that sense of kind of trepidation
01:26at the start of a six-week holiday and think, how are we going to keep our children entertained?
01:33How are we going to end this holiday still being friends and with an amicable situation in our house?
01:38Thankfully, every year that seems to go better than expected.
01:41But actually, to approach that long summer holiday with limited financial resource
01:47and maybe kind of lack of transport and access to other opportunities and resources
01:52is even more intimidating and is even more challenging.
01:56The course is open until Saturday.
01:59It's free to play and it's one of the crossings where taking your time is all part of the fun.
