00:13It's been good. We actually hit a few festivals on the last tour we did about two months ago.
00:19That was good. This time around, it's been all over the place.
00:22We were in Japan. We started in Japan, so it was just, you know, 95 degrees and 90% humidity
00:28and just, you know, deathly hot outside, and then now it's freezing cold outside and muddy and rainy.
00:34So it's been a, you know, wide spectrum of different climate and different audiences. It's really cool.
00:39It was in the middle of the set, kind of towards the end. We still had, like, four songs, I
00:43think, to play.
00:44And there was a part where I would run into the audience, and I want to play, like, acoustic, you
00:49know,
00:49around everybody, just kind of face-to-face more intimately.
00:52And when I was done, I was sprinting to get back to the stage.
00:54It was a pretty big arena, like a little amphitheater, and just sprinting down the stairs,
00:59and all of a sudden my boot just kind of gave way and just completely rolled,
01:02and I felt something tear. I was like, ah, I hope it's not, you know, what I think it is.
01:06So I was just, like, limping on it, you know, adrenaline's pumping, so I didn't really think about the injury.
01:10And then I just, like, kind of fell in the backstage. I was like, ah, I can't even walk anymore.
01:14So I just hopped around, and then finally just on stage, like, wanted to see what it looked like, basically.
01:19I was like, well, what other place to unleash it than in front of everybody?
01:22So I just kind of took it off, and it was pretty nasty.
01:24I mean, I figured the worst had happened before, so it couldn't really go any worse.
01:30But, yeah, no nervousness, just, I mean, we're always excited to play this festival,
01:35because it's always been great for us.
01:36And that show, actually, that I got knocked out, was probably one of the most memorable shows we ever had.
01:40Just ended up being this great set, you know, because it happened, like, 30 seconds into our first song.
01:45So luckily we were able to finish the set, and it was awesome.
01:48But, yeah, it's just, I don't know, it sucked that it happened, but it didn't really deter me from wanting
01:54to play.
01:55Exciting today, because this will be the first time we're playing with them, with Dallin and Ian at Reading and
02:00Leeds.
02:00So, yeah, I think it's going to be awesome.
02:02Lately, though, I mean, we've been playing with them for about two and a half years now.
02:06So we didn't play a show, just the two of us, with anybody else, except for Dallin and Ian after
02:12we split up as a four-piece.
02:14And that was, it just is nice to be able to have people that you get along with and then
02:18also are amazing musicians.
02:20It just makes it easier on us, you know.
02:21We thought it would be weird to just hire studio musicians to just come out on the road,
02:26because we like the camaraderie, and we like to make it feel like a real band on stage, so, yeah.
02:31Well, it was kind of weird going in, you know, we knew that we didn't want anything written for us.
02:36You know, it was kind of just the ultimate, we said, well, we don't want this to happen.
02:39So what we did do is we just kind of, anytime we would have an idea,
02:43at least for us to be comfortable with it, we would have like a minute and a half, two minutes
02:47of an idea,
02:48first course or whatever, at least we had the idea of the song.
02:50And then we'd bring it to, you know, John or Butch Walker, and we would just say, what do you
02:54think?
02:54You know, give me your opinion and let's see if we can work off this, you know.
02:57And that really, for us, is the best creative environment, because you have the idea,
03:02you know where the song could go, but having somebody else's opinion,
03:05especially people like John and Butch, who are just amazingly talented producers,
03:09it just kind of puts it in a mindset you probably wouldn't have before,
03:13which is a lot more exciting to do, I think, in the writing process.
03:17I think we definitely learned a lot more about recording,
03:19and which was a goal from the beginning, which, you know,
03:23and we've always tried to get better and better at that.
03:26But this time around, definitely took more time and attention to learn, you know,
03:31what kind of microphone would you use to get this sound, and why would it matter,
03:34you know, the distance that you're recording, and like, how do you get this effect,
03:37which is always, you know, kind of like a nerdy point of view, it's just awesome for us,
03:40and we really get to kind of geek out about it.
03:42It's really cool.
03:44Actually, this is like one of the first few times that we've been riding on the road,
03:48and we have a few demos just riding on the bus, recording on the bus,
03:53and it's really cool.
03:55It's kind of nice to, you know, not have to just get off tour and be like,
03:58okay, now we have to go in the studio, and it's like, feels like more pressured that way,
04:02you know, so this time it's been a little more, I guess, relaxed is maybe not the best word,
04:06but, yeah, I've been a little more comfortable with the riding process.
04:10I think a lot sooner than last time, for sure.
04:12It won't be two, three years, but, yeah, I mean, we have a few demos now,
04:17so if we keep at the pace we're going at, probably another year or so.
