00:00The summer getaway is well underway and Liverpool John Lennon Airport is preparing for one of its busiest periods of
00:08the year.
00:08It's the traditional holiday summer destinations. Some have had more frequency so you've got a bit of a choice of
00:14what day of the week or what time of the day you travel.
00:17So yeah, a big increase for us.
00:18The airport says almost 930,000 passengers are expected to pass through the terminal before the end of August.
00:26That would represent a 7% increase compared with the same period last year as families from across the north
00:32-west and north Wales head abroad for their summer holidays.
00:35We spent a lot of time over the last two to three years spending quite a bit of money investing
00:39in new facilities, so whether it's new bars and new food areas.
00:43We've got a new lounge that went in that opened just last October.
00:47The airport said almost 2.7 million passengers used its facilities during the first six months of the year, which
00:53is a 2% increase compared with the same period in 2025.
00:56You no longer have to take your laptops out of your bag, you can leave everything in your bag, you
01:01can leave all your liquids in your toilet bags and things like that.
01:04You don't need those square little plastic see-through bags.
01:07Still a limit on the size and it does vary from one airport to another, but here you're still limited
01:12to 100ml.
01:13But yeah, absolutely, it makes life a lot easier for passengers when they're going through security now.
01:17The Civil Aviation Authority is also reminding passengers to pack safely.
01:21There's a bit of a focus at the moment on power banks and lithium batteries in particular, so there's a
01:30campaign at the moment to raise awareness.
01:32If you're taking a power bank, don't put it in your suitcase, keep it in your hand luggage, that's really
01:37important.
01:38There's been a few issues with power banks overheating recently, so simple things like that, just plan ahead is what
01:43we always advise.
01:44Airport management's reminding travellers to allow plenty of time before their flights.
01:48Plan ahead, so that's the key to it, and not just thinking about the journey through the airport, it's a
01:53journey to the airport.
01:54We're certainly aware there's quite a lot of roadworks in this part of Liverpool at the moment going on, so
02:00just perhaps allow a little bit of exercise, plan your journey to and from the airport definitely.
02:04But get here through, allow plenty of time, it's the busiest time of the year, first thing in the morning
02:08you'll be flying out, that's our busiest time of any day of the week.
02:11So always allow a little bit of exercise, and we always recommend getting here for about two to three hours
02:16at the most, and that should be plenty of time to get through.
02:19The airport says passenger numbers have remained strong despite wider challenges facing the aviation industry and ongoing concerns linked to
02:26the crisis in the Middle East.
02:27A lot more choice now in ways that people can get to the airport, obviously from a parking point of
02:32view, we've got lots of different car parking options here,
02:34from a premium car park right outside the front door, to the long stay, which is a little bit further
02:39away that you'd walk from to the airport.
02:41But if you're coming by bus, again a lot of services into here, obviously Rapid Express service into the city
02:48centre,
02:49there's always been around with Arriva, and Liverpool South Parkway of course, the railway station, is only a ten minute
02:55bus journey from here, there's a bus every seven or eight minutes.
