00:00For passengers choosing where to begin their journey, new figures suggest location can make a significant difference to how smoothly
00:07a trip starts.
00:09Analysis of Civil Aviation Authority data by the Press Association shows that Liverpool John Lennon Airport recorded the most punctual
00:17departures in the UK in 2025, with an average delay of 9 minutes and 24 seconds.
00:23That stands in contrast to nearby Manchester Airport, where departures were delayed by an average of 19 and a half
00:29minutes, the longest of any UK airport despite a slight improvement on the previous year.
00:34The study examined scheduled and charter flights from 23 commercial UK airports, each handling at least 1,000 outbound journeys.
00:42Cancellations were not included in the analysis.
00:46Elsewhere, Birmingham Airport recorded the second longest delays at 18 minutes and 42 seconds, followed by Bournemouth Airport at just
00:53over 17 minutes.
00:55Across the UK overall, average departure delays improved, falling to 14 minutes and 54 seconds down from 18 minutes the
01:02year before.
01:03Rory Boland, editor of Which Travel, said consistent underperformance at some airports continues to affect passenger confidence, warning that repeated
01:12delays can make it harder for travellers to plan with certainty.
01:16Airport operators, however, point to external pressures.
01:19Manchester Airport says disruption to European air traffic control, adverse weather and airspace restrictions linked to conflict zones have all
01:25contributed, particularly affecting long-haul routes.
