00:0017 million units sold in 120 countries over 35 years and five generations the renault clio
00:05revolutionized the super mini segment claiming it has everything a bigger car has was the french
00:13brand's slogan today we'll find out if the sixth generation clio truly has it all let's go
00:21and sorry the hybrid kicked in yo this episode is brought to you by 3w liners keep your car
00:27interior clean with perfectly fitting oem compliant mats which are also eco-friendly and odorless i
00:34have a set of three w liners in my car and enjoy how winter mud and grit stays on them
00:40and how easy
00:41they are to clean they come with oem mounts or adapters and everything stays in place get a set
00:48of three w liners for your car check out the link in the video description and use my code to

01:38first up the design over a decade renault has been boldly designing not only concept models
01:44but also production versions the nuclear follows that trend in my opinion it has a whiff of mazda
01:50only cranked up to 11. i should also point out i'm not sure the recessed headlights are a good idea
01:59i picked the test car up after the heaviest snowfall so i couldn't test my theory in action but
02:05i'm concerned that the led headlights might not emit enough heat to melt the snow accumulating in them
02:15the sixth generation clio is about seven centimeters longer than its predecessor now measuring 412
02:22centimeters in length although this is mainly due to longer overhangs as the wheelbase has grown by
02:27less than a centimeter exterior width has increased by less than four centimeters to 177 centimeters
02:34interestingly according to renault this doesn't translate into a wider interior it's actually
02:40marginally narrower renault boasts a high percentage of recycled materials improved aerodynamics and
02:47only a slightly heavier weight as the clio 6 weighs between 4 and 49 kilograms more than the clio 5
02:54depending on the engine and trim level renault is also proud that 30 of clio 5 sold had a hybrid
03:02drivetrain yes but this also means that 70 of customers preferred a non-electrified variant including
03:08a diesel which renault axed even before the facelift this here is an e-tech hybrid but it's more powerful
03:16than before the four cylinder engine displacement increased from 1.6 to 1.8 liter the traction battery
03:23capacity grew from 1.2 to 1.4 kilowatt hours now the power output surged from 145 to 160 horsepower
03:33renault claims up to 80 percent of city driving can be done using the electric motor alone
03:58i'm testing the new clio while a freezing spell sweeps across poland daytime temperatures sometimes drop
04:05below minus 10 degrees celsius despite this fuel consumption in the city remains below 7 liters per
04:12100 kilometers and i see a downward trend the car wants to run as much as possible on electric power
04:19renault promises that the e-tech hybrid powertrain reduces fuel consumption by up to 40 percent compared
04:25to the non-electrified versions now perhaps this is true but i won't achieve 4 liters per 100 kilometers
04:31in this weather and if you don't want a hybrid your current choice is a three-cylinder 1.2 liter
04:37tce
04:37motor with 115 horsepower it comes with either manual transmission or a double clutch transmission
04:43interestingly this is the same engine that renault uses in the e-tech hybrid in the austral espace and
04:49rafale in the second half of 2026 an lpg version with dual clutch transmission will also be added to the
04:56lineup now in this hybrid the combustion engine is assisted by two motors all managed by an intelligent
05:03clutchless gearbox with 15 operating modes to enhance efficiency claimed zero to 100 kilometers per hour
05:15time is 8.3 seconds unfortunately despite sub-zero temperatures the roads where i film aren't completely
05:21dry in sport mode traction control bogged me down in comfort mode i barely managed to achieve below 9
05:28seconds perhaps one day i'll repeat the speed runs in better conditions under hard acceleration at around
05:35120 kilometers per hour there's a moment of hesitation as if there was a long gear shift i recall the
05:41same
05:42sensation in hybrid arcana and hybrid clio 5. regardless of the powertrain the new clio can tow up to 900
05:54kilograms initial driving impressions are positive the variable assist electric power steering
05:59offers surprisingly good feedback i like that during spirited driving the initial turn-in is noticeable
06:06you know you're driving a car not a washing machine on wheels in my opinion renault completely missed the
06:12mark with the 5e tag which in principle should handle and steer better than the clio maybe they saved a
06:20little something for the alpine variant of their electric hatch since it's freezing cold and the car
06:26is parked outdoors i can tell you this is actually very comfortable because if these shocks are somewhat
06:32frozen and stiffer therefore it must be much more comfortable on warmer days the engine also works more
06:40frequently and is probably a bit louder but renaud boasts its efforts at soundproofing and limiting
06:45vibrations the mirrors the wing mirrors are designed to reduce wind noise and there is additional sound
06:52deadening in the a pillars some sort of foam the clio may not be the quietest car i've driven but
06:58i remember some cars in this segment being considerably louder
07:06visibility however is poor especially for a city car the a pillars are thick and when approaching
07:12intersections i have to tilt my head left and right to check for pedestrians or vehicles hiding behind
07:17them and the driving position is awkward i can't seem to get comfortable maybe it's the thick winter
07:24clothing i'm wearing or maybe the seat and steering wheel don't have sufficient adjustment there's also
07:30no lumber support adjustment the seats are tolerable on short trips but i'm not sure i'd want to take the
07:37clio on a longer journey on the plus side reno still gives us what it now calls my safety switch
07:45basically it's a button which deactivates annoying systems that you've selected to be deactivated
07:50double pressing this button on the left side of the steering wheel is much easier than clicking through a
07:57multi-stage menus like in some of this car's competitors
08:19depending on the trim level the reno clio can have up to 29 assistance and safety systems this is the
08:25top of the line esprit alpine trim but ambient lighting visible here also on the doors is standard
08:32on the mid-level techno trim as well ambient lighting is on the dashboard as well as on the doors
08:38and
08:39the lighting on the doors is significant because it's not only for aesthetic reasons but it also serves
08:44as a warning system for drivers exiting the vehicle when another vehicle is approaching from behind
08:49the esprit alpine can also be identified by the spectral titanium finish on the dashboard furthermore
08:57only the esprit alpine offers an option of a heated steering wheel lower trims only have optional
09:03seat heating and that brings me to the displays depending on the trim the displays can be seven
09:09or ten and a quarter inch there is a legible driver's display with several modes showing various data
09:15including navigation map in the center is the infotainment system with google built in now you can either
09:23simply use google maps and voice assistant as is or you can log in with your google account which makes
09:30the
09:30car even easier to use unfortunately i won't be showing you the latter i picked up the car it was
09:39fresh it
09:40had 60 kilometers on the odometer and the press office probably didn't have the time to activate
09:45all the services so i couldn't log in with my google account but i've shown how it works in other
09:50reno cars
09:51i recommend it especially since more apps have recently been added to the store and can be downloaded
09:58to the car for example a podcast app other than spotify if you don't like spotify but i was talking
10:05about the seat and steering wheel heaters while air conditioning is operated with buttons underneath
10:11the screen the steering wheel and the seat heaters are on the screen what's the problem well when i'm
10:17picking someone up i can't turn on the seat heating for them earlier to heat things up for them the
10:24system
10:24recognizes that no one is sitting there and switches it off now i found a way around it which is
10:30this
10:33so i can cheat the car and heat the seats for someone but this is not an old toyota or
10:39suzuki where
10:40once you switched the seat heater on in late autumn you could switch it on in late spring
10:49besides the clio's cockpit is largely a copy of what we've seen in other reno models including what i
10:56consider an unfortunate idea of placing three stocks behind the steering wheel on the right side
11:00i've often found myself turning on the wipers instead of putting the car in gear
11:05the gear selector is a simplified version of what we saw in the reno 5 the tip doesn't pretend to
11:12be a
11:12lipstick case when maneuvering remember to press the brake pedal hard several times i pressed the brake
11:20too gently flick the gear stock quickly and the car didn't change direction i was hot even without the
11:26seat heating on fortunately the emergency braking system kicked in a rear view camera is an option
11:33on the base trim and standard on mid and top trim a 360 camera is included in the equipment package
11:39on
11:40techno and esprial pin trims now it wouldn't be 2026 without mentioning ai reno promises the google
11:48assistant will be soon replaced by gemini ai assistant and i will spare you the roll of the eye
12:02wireless charger is standard on the esprial pin and an option on the techno trim it's not particularly
12:08reliable but there are two usb-c ports to keep the electrons flowing then there are a couple of useless
12:15cup holders with a magnetic flap which cannot be removed you can only fold it and secure it by
12:21inserting it in the groove where you'd normally stow away the key card the door pockets are okay ish
12:27storage under the armrest and the glove box are on the large side for a super mini anyway there's nothing
12:35interesting happening in the rear there is slightly more leg room but that's mainly due to the shape of
12:40the front seats there's also a 12 volt outlet and tight door pockets but there are ice fix anchor points
12:47not only in the rear but also on the front passenger seat the tailgate release button is hidden between
12:54the tailgate and the bumper where it's hard to reach and find on a good day and when the car
13:00is wet and
13:02dirty it's even less pleasant since 2020 renault claims the clio boot volume is 391 liters i could never
13:13understand how they came up with this number because the clio 5 was virtually the same size as the clio
13:194
13:19which officially had a 300 liter boot this time renault provides a vda figure of 270 liters for the hybrid
13:27model and 327 liters for the non-electrified version without the optional mini spare this is now a credible
13:35result so don't believe everything you read in a brochure or hear when an influencer is reading a press
13:41release 391 liters is not vda it's if you fill the boot with liquid and that's a very optimistic reading
13:51price of the renault clio 6 start at 19 900 euro for the base evolution trim with a 115 horsepower
14:00three-cylinder petrol engine and a manual gearbox this test car is the esprit alpine e-tech hybrid with
14:07options it costs 30 440 euro renault clio is a decent car but the slogan claiming it's got everything
14:18what bigger cars have is a bold claim nonetheless i'm pleased to see new super minis are being developed
14:26and not all of them have to be electric and how do you like the new clio perhaps you've owned
14:32one of
14:32the previous generations maybe it was your first car any memories you'd like to share drop me a comment
